Billionaire to New York: Screw you

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 20, 2009 11:23 AM

Billionaire Tom Golisano, founder of Paychex, is leaving high-taxing, entrepreneur-undermining New York for Florida. He penned a kiss-off in the NYPost today:

Politicians like to talk about incentives — for businesses to relocate, for example, or to get folks to buy local. After reviewing the new budget, I have identified the most compelling incentive of all: a major tax break immedi ately available to all New Yorkers. To be eligible, you need do only one thing: move out of New York state.

Last week I spent 90 minutes doing a couple of simple things — registering to vote, changing my driver’s license, filling out a domicile certificate and signing a homestead certificate — in Florida. Combined with spending 184 days a year outside New York, these simple procedures will save me over $5 million in New York taxes annually.

By moving to Florida, I can spend that $5 million on worthy causes, like better hospitals, improving education or the Clinton Global Initiative. Or maybe I’ll continue to invest it in fighting the status quo in Albany. One thing’s certain: That money won’t continue to fund Albany’s bloated bureaucracy, corrupt politicians and regular special-interest handouts.

How did the state get to this point? By spending, spending and spending some more.

Going, going, going Galt. Who’s next?

I’m guessing that your proof for this is New York’s shrinking population?

Girl, the smart productive people left NY a long time ago, it’s only the economically oppressed and cant afford to move, the addle minded hopefuls, the unindited scam artists, and the royally over compensated welfare recipients left behind.

Spitzer and Patterson are the best poster children that cesspit has ever had, and the biggest pay raise I ever received was moving away from that dump for less money.

Cheers to you Tom! And I did vote for you when you ran for governor! (Man you know it suck bad when a former candidate for Governor bails out.)

LGM, as usual, misses the entire point of the story.

Due to the incredibly high taxes in New York State, the best and the brightest will no longer flock to NYC. They will flock to the states that will not abscond with a lions share of the income from the best and brightest.

This is typical of the third grade understanding of the economy consistently shown by liberals like LGM.

So how long before Obama outlaws interstate moves and/or imposes a massive “moving tax” on people who jump ship for tax-friendlier states?

Also an easy solution to the safety issues the Obama Government Motors weenie cars (2 seats on a lawnmower) or the weenie electric car (don’t go too far from the outlet!) will have with regards to safety and performance. Prohibit travel on highways and distances beyond 50 miles from home. In other words, pack the population into urban areas and control the population.

    Big brutha be watchin’ yo!

It looks like smart, productive people are learning from BIG BRO….

Pacific Investment Management Co., Barclays Capital and Fridson Investment Advisors have joined Schultze Asset Management LLC in saying lenders may be unwilling to back unionized companies with underfunded pension and medical obligations, such as airlines and auto-industry suppliers, because Chrysler’s creditors failed to block Obama’s move. The reluctance may put additional pressure on borrowers seeking capital in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

How did they end up in Silicon Valley?

Interesting point. Silicon Valley is another area with ridiculously high taxes, lockstep liberal voting patterns, and suffocating environmental regulations. Somehow, all that makes it conducive to the people who keep America’s economy going. And you might also mention Seattle.

If you meant the people who gave us the dot-com bubble and the housing crisis bubble, you got a point, ace.

The people who keep the economy going are the people OUTSIDE of Silicon Valley, New Yak City, and Washington DC.

Glad to hear you admitting to “lock-step” liberal voting…though it would be much more accurate to say “goose-step” voting patterns.

Well it hasn’t done diddly for California’s economy, high taxes have taken that state so far into the red that only a miracle can save it.

And as for the American economy, the Feds came out today saying unemployment and declines will be much worse than previously thought, and allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire will only compound the problem.

You just cannot be taken seriously anymore.

The sad part about Golisano’s resignation from NY is that he intends to support all of the very same liberal ideas that caused him to move out of NY in the first place. When I hear hospitals not new ideas for advances in medical technology, when I hear education not vouchers and competition, and when I hear Clinton Global Initiative not individual freedom initiatives, I realize that Golisano doesn’t really understand that he is the problem not the solution.
