The CYA Congress
Two items from today’s CYA Congress:
1) House Democrats block Republican call for probe of Pelosi
There was political theater, drama, but no surprise ending on Thursday on a topic involving spies, torture and truth in the Democratic-led U.S. House of Representatives.
Republicans again ripped into Speaker Nancy Pelosi for accusing the CIA of misleading Congress — and her fellow Democrats quickly blocked their bid for a bipartisan probe into her truthfulness. The vote was 252-172.
“The Republicans … have been focused on the politics of personal destruction,” House Democratic leader House Steny Hoyer said afterward.
Hoyer also accused Republicans of trying to divert attention from the Bush administration’s treatment of prisoners as well as Democratic efforts this year to revamp healthcare and move the nation toward energy independence.
Democrats rushed to Pelosi’s defense earlier this week, saying they believe her statement that the CIA did not inform her at a September 2002 briefing that it had used waterboarding, simulated drowning widely denounced as torture, during interrogations of suspected enemy combatants.
2) Just now, the House voted down by voice vote a motion by GOP Rep. John Campbell that would have banned any additional funding for the Murtha Airport to No One — on which the federal government has already squandered $150 million.
Watching the recorded vote right now…there are actually five Democrats who have voted yes. Will update with total…5:45pm Eastern…at least 11 Democrats voted for the Murtha airport funding ban…

Disgusting. Pelosi is a scum sucking bottom feeder. She should be ejected to the moon.
That would be all the Democrats present, Ron Paul (Moonbat-TX), and Walter Jonex (”R”-NC) that saved Pelosi’s hide.
The reason they wont put her out to dry is that THEY may be next, ergo CYA……
Never in our history, I would wager, has there been a more despicable Congress. We are seeing history unfold before our very eyes. These people are lower than a bow-legged caterpillar in Death Valley.
I can’t think of more than a handful in Congress who are actually following their constituents’ will.
Personally, I apologize to all of you for knowingly voting for John Cornyn against my better judgement. As always, TLOTE is still evil.
The CIA better start playing CYA. They should video every briefing to any government official, and have them sign a statement acknowledging that they had been briefed, and on what topics.
It is unconcionable that they have to protect themselves from Congress.
I say we probe anyway, and I mean WE do it instead of trusting Congress to find the resources.
We do have that right as Americans, after all.

He’s far from the worst up there. You have to understand that you’re voting for a politician in the first place. Expecting him to be anything else is a failing on your part, not on his.
Pelosi is the best thing that ever happened to the conservative movement. Try to imagine this breathtaking moron as President of the United States.
If the idiots who vote for liberals don’t get their heads out of their arses in ‘10, our country is doomed.
This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Pelosi was not telling the truth. If she were they would have jumped at the same to exonerate her. Instead they close ranks and protect her sorry overstretched hide. This will come back to haunt them. She will now feel emboldened and lie again.

The hacker who stole Palin’s emails and family photos is asserting that they were “public records” through his defense lawyer.

Do they believe all of her statements? Because, if they believe Pelosi when she says she was not informed of the use of waterboarding in 2002, then surely they must also believe her when she says she learned of it in 2003. That makes her complicit.
If the CIA misled Congress in 2002, why didn’t Pelosi call for an investigation in 2003 when she found out about the deception. Lying to Congress is a serious crime, but Pelosi chose not to report it. (In fact, she was so concerned, she didn’t even bother to sign Harmon’s letter objecting to waterboarding.)
In effect, Pelosi aided and abetted the CIA and the Bush Administration in deceiving Congress and the American people. Are we to believe she would protect the Bush Administration by ignoring this crime even with an important election coming up?
She said she was too busy working to get Democrats elected to be concerned with CIA torture. But wouldn’t her first-hand testimony of CIA lies and Bush abuses of detainees have helped her get MORE Democrats elected in 2004?
Some might argue that she couldn’t say or do anything because of secrecy. But that didn’t stop her in 2004. According to the CIA, Pelosi had no qualms about coming to them to protest another activity she didn’t like. She even succeeded in getting it stopped. So, if she really thought the CIA was doing torture that went against “American values”, why didn’t she take that up with the CIA and try to get it stopped in 2003?
One thing is clear. Either Pelosi is as dumb as a rock or she is lying.

The problem all along for the donks is this:
They won’t take out their garbage.
It’s no accident or coincidence that 12 of 16 Congressmen and Senators currently under ethical investigation are donks. You can’t get that many Republicans under the dark cloud like that because they’ll typically be forced by their own party to resign.
But to be a donk is to place the acquisition and retention of power above all else. What ensues is just variations of, “He may be a rotten, corrupt, larcenous, perverted, lying bastard, but he’s OUR rotten, corrupt, larcenous, perverted, lying bastard so we have to protect him no matter what.”
Donks will be donks before they are Americans; they only give a damn about themselves and their special interest groups and not what’s right for the country. And as long as their unofficial motto is “My Party Right or Wrong!”(TM), the American People will continue to get more of what we have now: effectively, taxation without representation.
It is a phenomenon that Bill Bennett wrote insightfully about many years ago in The Death Of Outrage.
Judge Bork’s book about the same time, Slouching Past Gomorrah, was another good examination of the same trend.
It has only gotten worse.
It should be remembered that Republican Senators were at least as important in seeing Pres. Nixon out the door as any Dimocrat. They knew it would be very costly, and the Dimocrats would beat them with Nixon for years, but it was the right thing.
That notion…the right thing…would make any Dimocrat I can name (maybe not including Lieberman) in office just blink in incomprehension.
Now I ask you…who in their right mind would want to probe Pelosi?
