What the Sacramento Bee really thinks of voters

I wrote yesterday: “As expected, the liberal establishment will characterize voters as tantrum-throwers. When initiatives go their way, voters are wise, smart, discerning citizens. When initiatives fail miserably, the electorate is a moronic mob.”
Case in point: The Sacramento Bee’s sneering editorial flipping the bird to Californians who overwhelmingly rejected the tax-and-spend ballot measures (title: “You did it! Uh, so now what?”). After getting called out not only by hometown readers, but also nationally by Rush Limbaugh, the Bee yanked the editorial and replaced it with a kinder, gentler piece that did a complete 180 — from denigrating voters to counseling politicians that “You can blame the voters for reacting with uninformed and misplaced anger. Or you can look in the mirror and admit you had it coming. And you know you did.”
Blaming the voters? Reacting with misplaced anger? I smell projection. Guess the Sacto Bee editorial board had a look in the mirror.
The newspaper says it neeeever intended to publish the original editorial. Andrea Shea King and Dave Logan have the scoop. An editor told Logan the original rantings were just random notes. Just “thoughts.”
Yes, just “thoughts.” Thanks to copy-and-paste and caching, California voters will always know what the Sacramento Bee really thought of the election results and how they really think of the peons who buy their newspaper. Or used to buy it.
We don’t call them the media elite for nothing.
***
Aside: I survived a few years on a predominantly liberal editorial board in Washington state, which also has the initiative/referenda process — and I can tell you from firsthand experience that the contempt the Sacto Bee showed in its original “draft” editorial towards voters who didn’t vote their way is the same contempt I saw at the Seattle Times.

You’re correct Michelle, this is what they actually think.
And to answer the Bee – spend less?
Michelle, The Sacto Bee has been nothing but a Left-Wing rag for so long, no one in their readership area can remember a time anymore when it was anything BUT the Dems propaganda machine.
And it is not just the voters that the Bee is against. Oh no…it is against anything resembling respectable things. They are against the Sacramento Police Department, the Sacramento Fire Department, the Sacramento Sheriff Department and so many other things of that nature.
It got so bad that I and a great many other people that used to be loyal subscribers stopped taking that rag in protest back in 2005. It has been rough without my morning “Get Fuzzy”, but fortunately I was pointed to their site from one of the commenters here.
Once you accept that the Bee is run by and written for the elitest of the Liberal elite, it all will make sense to you.
Unfortunately for California, AAAhhhnold is obviously an avid reader and actually believes the crap printed on those pages.
I remember that all too well.
A INCREDIBLY arrogant editorial (the original). And anything they say about it having been a mistake is total B.S. Their big mistake was in slipping up and letting the citizens know what they really think. Let’s hope that their subscriptions take a severe nosedive. Maybe then they will get the message.
That’s easy. As my first official act I intend to cut costs, starting with my subscription to The Sacramento Bee (if I had a subscription that is). If you bite the hand that feeds you, don’t be surprised if the hand stops feeding you and swats you with a rolled-up newspaper. And when that happens, remember your own words “Sorry, no whining allowed.”
Imagine that. When put to a vote, the people actually did NOT want to be taxes more…even all those that voted for Obama who continually tells people that they will all have to pay more for the greater good.
Looks like the Libs…once again…don’t know what the hell they are talking about.
And yes…I do count Ahhhnold in with the Libs. There ain’t no way he is Conservative in any sense of the word.
Hmmm. As Obama and his lackies love to say,
“We won. Get over it.”
Projection. It’s what’s for breakfast.
Projection is the modus operandi of the Democratic Socialists.
When the far left accuses someone of something, they themselves are usually the guilty party.
I would say that “reacting with misplaced anger” is exactly what the far left did in response to the Prop 8 vote.
I love the new media. Too he77 with liberal newspapers, all of them.
Good stuff Michelle.
I have to quit answering the phone-I missed where Rush called out the Bee. But the Bee is typical of so many of these arrogant jerks–”how DARE the Riff Raff not kowtow to our magnificent instructions”!
Sympathies for your time at the Seattle Times Michelle, it must have been horrible. I was polite to a Liberal myself once- broke out in hives, one eye turned green the other purple. But we survive. Perhaps the Bee won’t.
I was reading comments about an article on the election two days ago on the san diego union tribune blog, signonsandiego.com. One of the commentators said that every comment they had made on other threads, the site would shut down the comments. The person suggested it was because of criticism he had made of the gay lifestyle or illegal immigrants, had complained that he had not used anything hateful (I did not read those comments) and stated something about comments about white christians being kept up, no matter how bad they were. The Union Tribune moderator made a comment after his, that the paper defends the rights of gays and immigrants and did not feel that white christians needed any protection. I do not know what that was all about, but I was taken aback. I went back later to copy and paste the whole convo. and post it for MM readers, but the comments on that thread had been closed and taken down, only a few minutes after I had read them.
Now, I cannot point any fingers or really comment, but with the behavior of the majority of print media these days, I can and will assume that it was bias on the part of the newpaper. I will no longer waste any of my money on California newspapers. The elite attitude of those that work there, hopefully these despicable people will be one of the many sacrafices Californians will be forced to make.
Newspapers are for bird cages and fish wrap.
You really can’t blame the Sac Bee for what they did. As the President goes, so does the Bee. Lately the President has been doing more 180′s than Joie Chitwood at a state fair. The Bee is only emulating their chosen leader’s moves.
So they not only hold citizens who don’t vote their way in contempt, but they’re also too chickensh!t to stand up for that opinion? I’m shocked, I tell you, SHOCKED!!!
In this day and age, I’d rather that my kids choose to major in Underwater Basketweaving than Journalism. At least then they’d have a useful skill (and you can never have too many baskets).
The real message is that this is what libs think of all patriotic, hard-working, honest Americans. Christians especially.
Pulled this quote from Patterico, it is from the original notes. This is their problem and what is really upsetting them, the entire nation is going to see what happens when liberal democrats have a super majority and are running things.
Michelle said:
You are so right on the money. Journalists are not content to be observers and chroniclers of events, they want to shape the outcome. And for an editorial board, that’s okay, I guess, unless they become so isolated from their readers they become a laughing stock, as most have today, unless they’re selling fish wraps to just the liberal elite, and there really aren’t enough of those around to sustain them financially.
This is typical of any of the lefty radio shows as well. Ever hear any of their shows take opposition phone calls? I heard Hartman yesterday argue the right uses scare tactics against Gitmo, saying we already have “terrorists” in American prisons; while missing the point that some of the detainees would be set free on American soil, not imprisoned here! That is our argument to keeping Gitmo open! They cannot use logic or rational thought to defend their lefty positions!
Dagney, I have heard Air America host Randi Rhodes take an opposition call once, she hung up before the caller could make his point and called him a mysogonist (sp?). (We don’t get Air America here anymore, wonder why) I laughed and changed the station.
I also heard that one San Francisco host, Karel or something, when he was in Los Angeles take a call from a woman who was making a counterpoint after his rants against the Iraq war, he put her on hold, complained about it being his show and told his producer to keep her on hold, (she of course hung up). So your point is valid and I agree.
And, if that predicted “federalization” (a corruption of the term, and the exact opposite of its meaning as intended by the Framers) occurs, THAT WILL BE TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION.
Our system is broken. The Political Class is revolting.
We need to return the favor.
I posted on Hot Air about this after reading the Sacbee yesterday morning. You should read the comments section on the Sacbee for what I and other readers feel about their editorial.
The funniest thing about the editorial change was what they changed the title to after bashing the voters and readers.
“Editorial: Time for reform – not for blame”
Such is the breathtaking hypocrisy of these people. It never ceases to amaze me how they just take whatever “principles” (e.g. the worship of so-called “democracy”) that suit their purposes at the moment as immutable, just to throw them overboard whenever they don’t like the their implications.
The most egregious example is how Bush was a “war criminal” when he was doing exactly what St. Barry is doing now with respect to rendition, Gitmo, Iraq, Afghanistan etc.
You would think by now that even the Liberal Sheeple would realize they are lumped in with everyone else as being ill-informed, ignorant or stupid when it comes to exercising their constitutional rights to vote any way they see fit. Especially when it comes to a Tax Hike to bail out an out of control Sacramento that put CA in the spot they are in today.
I understand how states like Texas often consider leaving the Union. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could constitutionally vote a state out of our Union?
I would love to give California a boot allowing them the option to re-apply for statehood in 5 years (if they get it together by then). The immediate benefits would be tremendous. We would lose Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer, Waxman, Lee, Richardson and more that help put a stranglehold on Congress and our government. Then we could point to New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts that they are next.
Think of the savings we would have and we can watch with joy as the liberal legislatures ruin their states without federal backup.
Sorry for the fantasy…call it California Dreamin’
These liberal newspaper editorial types seem to be misguided and delusional. They sound like brain washed college students who are clueless of matters in the real world and have the non-functional moral compass of Judas Iscariot.
One wonders, when these people look at the world, what the hell do they actually see?
Karen Bass, Speaker Of The House in CA, just said that voters were “confused”, and she just didn’t have time to set all of them straight before the election.
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/05/21/california-speaker-voters-find-budgetary-proposals-too-complicated-or-something/
They sure were, with the very low turnout, only people who know what is going on went to vote. I asked a girl out walking her dog (I live in a very liberal neighborhood) if she had voted late on election day. She said, vote for what? I just said, exactly and pointed at her. She said, no really, vote for what. The liberals did not know about the election, they did not cover it on tv commercials, Most of Californians don’t know unless it is on the tv alot, and surely not during the news, its gotta be on during tv shows.
For more on Karen Bass, read this article:
http://www.sacbee.com/capitolandcalifornia/story/1802691.html
Another indication as to who is confused. What kind of loon tries to slip by raises to a small group when the whole state is having budget problems. Bass is just another liberal who cannot seem to understand the value of “other people’s money”.
Oh, respectfully, I have to disagree.
Other people’s $$$ = keeping her butt in office.
A simple, corrupt, and ultimately destructive equation.
No time to comment stop trying to solve the mystery of declining newspaper circulation stop will get back when I can stop send money stop
We have many powerful adversaries to deal with here. The media is totally in the tank with the Dems, and the special interests. They have contempt for the little guy.
Also, follow the money. The paper may be angling for Washingtom State style tax bailouts.
That’s the problem with them.
They are among the elitists/statists/nihilists/existentialists/socialists/America-haters (stop me!) who have an irreconcilably different, totally opposite worldview from conservatives.
I would bet that, whatever it is that they see, it is nothing like what most of us here see.
And now, those dangerous clowns are in political power again.
Of course they will seek a bailout.
Just as California was when Arnold was visiting whatever-his-real-name-is in D. C.
What absolute rubbish.
Oh, I believe they had their ‘internal discussion’; I just think they laughed, and tittered and chortled w/leftist, moronic glee. And then they thought that everyone else would think it was clever too! Why not? Aren’t they so clever?
FAIL. Cretins.
Already. Now, the rest of the US needs to make it VERY clear that any office-holder who even smells like they would support that is doomed.
Wait, are you suggesting the print media in California may not be completely without bias on certain issues.
I find that hard to accept considering the high standards and professional ethics demonstrated by so many editorial pages around the country. Frankly, I think these high standards are the reason so many papers around the country are so successful and profitable since people KNOW they can trust their newspapers to present clear, unvarnished facts and unbiased editorial commentary. Thank God for the “Fourth Estate…”
In my view, liberal newspapers are good for only one thing. I subscribe to the Denver Post for a cheap source to line my ferret cage with. I especially enjoy placing dems pictures sunny side up so that my ferrets can decorate at will.
There, fixed that.
AHHH, don’t you just love NEWSPAPERS in this country, at this time… Denigrate your fellow voters, who also happen to be subscribers… In Arizona, when the EMPLOYER SANCTION BILL passed by a margin of 78%, our local RAG denigrated the voters as well… We didn’t understand the BILL… We didn’t (how could we have) read the BILL… We were RACIST… Etc., etc… DUMB AS A BOX OF ROCKS, that’s the AMERICAN VOTER, when we don’t quite (vote their way) GET THE PROGRAM…
There you go. We need to leave ideas and reporting to the elite.
Us mugs can’t be trusted…
People, people, people!
Please.
Everytime you buy a newspaper, you support the paper itself, bias and creeping stupidity.
If you need newsprint, you can buy CLEAN, non-ink smeared paper at WalMart, Home Depot or a paper store.
Then there is no issue of toxicity to the animals. And if you are moving, the blank newsprint will be better for you dishes.
DON’T FEED THE MONSTERS!!!
How predictable and boring. The Sacramento Bee Ess would have no problem if most or all of these measures (save the pay-restrictions measure) were approved. Is there such a thing as throwing YOURSELF under the bus?!
Originally posted by me at Newsbusters:
Also, I do not recall his exact words, but Jonas Max Ferris, a contributor to Fox News’ Cashin’ In said that most people will say government is too big, but will go on to say to not cut the benefits they are receiving from that too-big government!
That is the issue. The people know that government is too big, but at the very same time, they are like junkies, unwilling to give up the narcotics they are addicted to, the “benefits” they are getting from the government.
This is what we conservatives are up against. Selfish people unwilling to give up the improperly thought of “free” benefits they are getting from the government.
Yea well, the SacBee did an article explaining how they just really weren’t in the tank for Obama too.
Can’t hardly argue with you on that. How’s the readership of the “B”? Looking for a bailout also?
I have referred to the rag as “The hated Bee” for over 20 years now.
pft…
Just before the divine slap the fly was heard to be screaming “MOT ME! NOT MEEEE!”
Actually, it was “HELP ME! HELP ME!!” a la Vincent Price… duh…
