Fetch the comfy chair! U.N. Security Council passes new toothless resolution; Update: N. Korea fires two more short-range missiles

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 26, 2009 12:12 AM

In response to North Korea’s willful violation of a toothless U.N. Security Council resolution, the panel quickly passed…yet another toothless U.N. Security Council resolution.

It is Monty Python’s world, and we are all just living in it. Fetch the comfy chair!

We all know the answer, but William A. Jacobson has an excellent post asking the inconvenient question:

Will the Left apologize to John Bolton?

***

Update: In the wee hours of the morning comes another set of test launches. Wow. Those new resolutions really showed Kim Jong Il! Via Marketwatch:

North Korea fired two short-range missiles along its east coast Tuesday, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency. The reported launch came a day after similar launches and the apparently successful test of a nuclear weapon. Yonhap had reported earlier in the day that North Korea had declared parts of its coast off-limit to ships, signaling that a new launch was imminent.

To be frank, I called you worse than a nazi because of your support of terrorists at GITMO. A jew who supports those who would kill jews is worse than a nazi. So, indirectly, you are in favor of the killing of jews so technically, you are a killer by proxy.

As for your Christian bashing, it is well documented. You are fine with denigrating a whole sect of people because of your opinion. You, however, have to get someone banned if they make fun of you. Your kind of hypocrisy makes me sick.

I agree with your approach, but there is a practical issue of targeting. I can’t imagine that Lil’Kim comes out of his hole very often, and there is likely little in the way of warning when he does.

Finding the bugger would be tough, but I agree that we should off him if we get the chance.

OTOH, succession would be an issue, and you have to accept that his successor could be worse – and could use the assassination as a casus belli. Hard to say.

Plus, you’d need to get Obama to OK an assassination of a foreign leader. I think he’d kiss Rush Limbaugh on the lips before he’d do that… ;)

And Flyoverman, I’m not so sure that China would sanction a repeat of that last war we had with the North.

Sure, we got to the Yalu fast enough – but would the Chinese welcome us anymore this time than last?

When you say “this will come to a nuclear showdown,” I so hope you are wrong – but I’d argue with you if I had reason to.

I, again, hate the assymetry here. In their weakness and location N. Korea has great leverage…

    1) Send the USFK on full alert.
    2) Impose a full naval blockade, no vessels in or out without full inspection. Only approved UN goods will be allowed in or out.
    3) AEGIS class cruisers in strategic locations to knock anything out of the sky over North Korean airspace
    4) Patriot batteries on the border, doing the same
    5) Implode any currently detected tunnels in the DMZ (if you don’t understand this, then you shouldn’t be discussing the Korean Conflict
    6) Full on jamming of all signals in North Korea
    7) Sit at Panmunjom, and await terms for full complance, or full starvation. No quarter will be given for anything less

    Note:

We need no declaration of war, we are in a defacto state of war since the 1950’s

North Korea has a (very weak) Navy, but they did manage to capture one of our ships in the 1960’s

Yep. We in Pueblo are still waiting for “diplomacy” to affect the return of the USS Pueblo, our namesake ship, to US control. It has been a propaganda tool for NK ever since its capture. A sad story. In spite of their weak navy, our Navy did nothing to come to the crew’s aid even though, as we understand it, they were close enough to help. I think all the crew of the USS Pueblo had was a 50 cal deck gun. One crewman lost his life in their attempt to defend themselves. After their capture, the others and their Captain, Lloyd Bucher, went through 11 months of hell at the hands of the North Koreans. Friendly bunch, they…

Yup, that gun was all the defense the Pueblo had. IIRC, the Navy expected Bucher to scuttle the ship. Tne NK’s knew that might happen and threated to destroy the ship along with the crew if an attempt to scuttle it was made.

I think the Navy command (or someone higher up) feared further actions would result in a conflict with China. China always seemed to be behind goading NK into action to embarace us, figuring we wouldn’t do much for fear of Chinese retaliation flaring up into a major conflict.

Actually, the USS Pueblo incident was connected with John Walker’s spying. We all remember him, right? He’s the guy who would’ve virtually single-handedly cost us the US Navy if the Cold War had ever gone “hot.”

Walker had given the Soviets the US Navy’s codes, but without a Navy cipher machine the codes were useless. Ergo, the Soviets put up the NoKos to grab the Pueblo and its cipher, which ended up in the USSR.

As to the thread topic … it’s pretty obvious that the North Koreans see very little indeed to fear from the UN or the US these days. And who can blame them for that point of view? It’s obvious by now that Hope-a-Dope has resigned himself, and by extension everybody else, to a world full of nuclear proliferators, starting with Iran and North Korea.

Any wagers on how long it’ll take the Libyans to resurrect their own nuke program, if they haven’t done so already?

What efforts, lgm? The efforts of DEMOCRAT President Truman to win the war in Korea? Ooops, I guess we forgot that Truman went for the tie instead of the win. There’s one Democrat’s efforts, and it has directly given us the problem we have now. If DEMOCRAT Truman had WON the war in Korea rather than going for the tie, we’d not have this mess, and likely, Red China wouldn’t be Red.

How about President Clinton’s efforts? Are Forgettingm lgm, DEMOCRAT Bill Clinton’s giving the NoKos a friggin’ NUCLEAR REACTOR based on a false promise form the North Korean Government? Madeline Allbright waltzing in and signing a deal Kim Jongil had no desire to keep in the firstp lace? Lets see, that’s two DEMOCRAT Presidents, and Two Efforts, with nothing but TROUBLE as the result.

And what has been the result of President Obama’s desrire for “compassionate” discourse towards the two-bit terror states and ten-penny dicators ,and wanting to “sit down and talk” with our enemies?? Two successful weapons’ tests (if we include Iran, that number rises to four) in two months. And what is President Obama’s reaction? He’s “angry” and he “condemns” North Korea. So far, that’s been it: words and “condemnation”. President Obama — if he truly cares about the USA — needs to put his money where his mouth is.

As some others have posted in here, I have more faith in Kim Jongil and his words than I do our own President’s…..

By the way, a Nuclear Japan? Red China will not only not want that, I daresay that they will do ANY-thing to keep it from happening, including invading Japan. While I’d be all for Japan having nuclear weapons, Red China is not, and they will never sit idly by and let Japan rearm….
