Fetch the comfy chair! U.N. Security Council passes new toothless resolution; Update: N. Korea fires two more short-range missiles
In response to North Korea’s willful violation of a toothless U.N. Security Council resolution, the panel quickly passed…yet another toothless U.N. Security Council resolution.
It is Monty Python’s world, and we are all just living in it. Fetch the comfy chair!
We all know the answer, but William A. Jacobson has an excellent post asking the inconvenient question:
Will the Left apologize to John Bolton?
***
Update: In the wee hours of the morning comes another set of test launches. Wow. Those new resolutions really showed Kim Jong Il! Via Marketwatch:
North Korea fired two short-range missiles along its east coast Tuesday, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency. The reported launch came a day after similar launches and the apparently successful test of a nuclear weapon. Yonhap had reported earlier in the day that North Korea had declared parts of its coast off-limit to ships, signaling that a new launch was imminent.

shinola,
I agree with your approach, but there is a practical issue of targeting. I can’t imagine that Lil’Kim comes out of his hole very often, and there is likely little in the way of warning when he does.
Finding the bugger would be tough, but I agree that we should off him if we get the chance.
OTOH, succession would be an issue, and you have to accept that his successor could be worse – and could use the assassination as a casus belli. Hard to say.
Plus, you’d need to get Obama to OK an assassination of a foreign leader. I think he’d kiss Rush Limbaugh on the lips before he’d do that…
And Flyoverman, I’m not so sure that China would sanction a repeat of that last war we had with the North.
Sure, we got to the Yalu fast enough – but would the Chinese welcome us anymore this time than last?
When you say “this will come to a nuclear showdown,” I so hope you are wrong – but I’d argue with you if I had reason to.
I, again, hate the assymetry here. In their weakness and location N. Korea has great leverage…
A response to LGM’s question:
I listed before what Obama will do. Now, here’s what America should do.
1) Send the USFK on full alert.
2) Impose a full naval blockade, no vessels in or out without full inspection. Only approved UN goods will be allowed in or out.
3) AEGIS class cruisers in strategic locations to knock anything out of the sky over North Korean airspace
4) Patriot batteries on the border, doing the same
5) Implode any currently detected tunnels in the DMZ (if you don’t understand this, then you shouldn’t be discussing the Korean Conflict
6) Full on jamming of all signals in North Korea
7) Sit at Panmunjom, and await terms for full complance, or full starvation. No quarter will be given for anything less
Note:
We need no declaration of war, we are in a defacto state of war since the 1950′s
North Korea has a (very weak) Navy, but they did manage to capture one of our ships in the 1960′s
Do you really, really want a nuclear Japan? I know the Chinese don’t. But, if we don’t do something to end teh muscle flexing, what other choice will Japan have? What about South Korea?
crashemt, Let me respond for LGM.
ITS BUSHES FAULT!!!
LGM mode off.
I can only guess at what strategies the members of the axis of evil planned against the USA or the world when they had their little get together last year. Was it Venezuela, Iran, Syria, North Korea, and Bolivia? The bad news is Obama will stand by with all the right excuses and the damn world will erupt into wwIII.
And why is this UN condemnation going to end any differently than it did in ’01-’03 when it condemned Hussein? The left is still oblivious to the fact that the UN has no balls. Did it ever, in it’s history?
But adding 17,000 more will get us out?!The future does not lie in the past. Blaming the nation’s ills on President Bush and Christians is hardly an effective strategy.
crashemt:
Yep. We in Pueblo are still waiting for “diplomacy” to affect the return of the USS Pueblo, our namesake ship, to US control. It has been a propaganda tool for NK ever since its capture. A sad story. In spite of their weak navy, our Navy did nothing to come to the crew’s aid even though, as we understand it, they were close enough to help. I think all the crew of the USS Pueblo had was a 50 cal deck gun. One crewman lost his life in their attempt to defend themselves. After their capture, the others and their Captain, Lloyd Bucher, went through 11 months of hell at the hands of the North Koreans. Friendly bunch, they…
Kapo lgm is Obama’s little Jew lapdog. He supports Iran’s plan to destroy Israel – his own people.
Is there anything more reprehensible than a creature like that?
Didn’t ya’ll know that GM ( Gov’t Motors) is moving overseas….Pyongyang is GM’s new home…home of the Jong hybrid.
And then – if I recall correctly – lots of finger pointing by the brass who didn’t come to his aid. San Diego loved him though.
Sadly, AlohaGuy, so true. Lots of brass “CYAing”…
Thank you San Diego for properly receiving him. May he rest in peace…he passed away 28 Jan 04 and is buried in San Diego. Pueblo gave him and his crew a hero’s welcome on several occasions over the years. There is a good write up on Wikipedia and a website href=”http://www.usspueblo.org/”>.
Yup, that gun was all the defense the Pueblo had. IIRC, the Navy expected Bucher to scuttle the ship. Tne NK’s knew that might happen and threated to destroy the ship along with the crew if an attempt to scuttle it was made.
I think the Navy command (or someone higher up) feared further actions would result in a conflict with China. China always seemed to be behind goading NK into action to embarace us, figuring we wouldn’t do much for fear of Chinese retaliation flaring up into a major conflict.
atheling said (#108):
Is this over the line? I would appreciate opinions from others here.
Actually, the USS Pueblo incident was connected with John Walker’s spying. We all remember him, right? He’s the guy who would’ve virtually single-handedly cost us the US Navy if the Cold War had ever gone “hot.”
Walker had given the Soviets the US Navy’s codes, but without a Navy cipher machine the codes were useless. Ergo, the Soviets put up the NoKos to grab the Pueblo and its cipher, which ended up in the USSR.
As to the thread topic … it’s pretty obvious that the North Koreans see very little indeed to fear from the UN or the US these days. And who can blame them for that point of view? It’s obvious by now that Hope-a-Dope has resigned himself, and by extension everybody else, to a world full of nuclear proliferators, starting with Iran and North Korea.
Any wagers on how long it’ll take the Libyans to resurrect their own nuke program, if they haven’t done so already?
“A man thrusts a bayonet into the darkness. If he hits mush, he keeps pushing. If he hits steel, he pulls back.”
– Nikita Kruschev, oh-so-presciently predicting reactions to aggression by Jimmy Carter and Hope-a-Dope
It’s over my line. I like dogs.
That would be a first.
I can’t remember if that was Obama or Sally Field that said “You like me, you really like me.”
lgm:
I call a spade a spade.
You’re a Jew. You voted for a man who sat in a church for 20 years, that hates Jews, whitey, and other sundry folks.
You’re a Jew. You voted for a man who would not look the Israeli PM in the eye because he plans to betray him, and his people, our ally.
You’re a Jew. You voted for a man who sides with a group of people who want to exterminate the Jewish people off the face of the earth because they are simply Jews.
You’re a Jew. You voted for a man who sent a huggy video to Ahmadinejad, who is working towards achieving the goal of Israel’s eradication.
You’re a Jew. You keep on defending a man does all of the above.
If that doesn’t make you his Jew lapdog, nothing does.
The liberal attack dogs have all but erased any line and you now claim there is one? Because it applies to little old YOU???
Grow a thicker skin. If things go as badly as I fear, you will be hearing the comparison alot until MM is shut down.
update to the update - another missile fired
It is so embarrassing to watch our President (even if I do not like him) running to the teacher to tell on a classroom bully. When will Washington grow up and realize that there pathetic games have real consequences? When LA is in flames? New York a heap in a river? This is ridiculous
coronia, MM opened another thread on that.
I agree. Enough of this lapdog bashing.
I wonder if Kim Jong Mentally Ill is developing a missle that can hit Turtle Bay…
The 50′s demagogue McCarthy was finally stopped when he was asked: “Sir, have you no sense of decency?” That worked because Republicans of the day indeed were decent human beings. atheling, T-Bone, Tazed and Confused, and sonofdy today have been indecent. I wonder how MM will respond to this test of character.
I’ve been called stupid, ignorant, what have you. But a decent person would see that this is too far.
lgm, how dare you suggest that Obama doesn’t know what that right thing is!
I watched Obama during the campaign. He claimed to know that right thing for all America’s problems.
Do you admit that he was lying?
Tazed:
It’s not bashing. It’s called shaming.
lgm should be ashamed of himself. He deserves the dishonor.
I guess LGM knows how Tony Blair feels.
lgm:
Grow up. President Bush endured a lot worse than you, you cowardly ninny.
So, tell me, what will you think of your Master when Israel turns to glass because your Master did nothing to stop Ahmadinejad?
Will you feel proud?
Great link, lgm. Your source states that “scholars disagree” whether or not the incident led to McCarthy being “stopped.”
Here’s a suggestion. Before you link, make sure it supports your case.
BTW, McCarthy’s accusations (as asserted by your source) were correct.
Oh waaa waa waaaaa.
Nobody is forcing you onto this site.

But I am sure LGM was just FINE with this image.
200,000 soldiers in Af’stan?
Urkel really surged that many?
Its LGM. Did you really expect him to know what he was talking about???
AAANNNDDD they just restarted thier nuclear plants.
BOY they sure have the ones number.
Is this over the line? I would appreciate opinions from others here.
Not really. I just figured it was typical of liberal statistics…pull a number out of your azz and claim it as true.
Did the Dep. of Education take over the Dep. of State? I mean, this all reminds me of a whiny, emasculated substitute teacher’s endless pleading for the kid next to me to stop slinging spit wads at the chalkboard (you know, the kind that smack and stick to the board?).
Seriously, are there any men left in Washington? This is embarrassing. It’s the day after Memorial Day for crying out loud! They could at least do we relatively few veterans/service members the respect of at least acting like men.
It takes judgment. I am not ready to declare Obama a failure because in a few months he has not solved a problem that was decades in the making and resisted the efforts of several Presidents before him.
–lgm
What judgement, lgm? The kind of judgement that sacks a decorated Five-star general who had the right ideas for WINNING the war in Korea? The kind of judgement that should have let MacArthur be cut loose to WIN the Korean War instead of going for the tie? lgm, your DEMOCRAT Boy “Give-’em-cream-puffs” Truman is the man who bears the lions’ share of the blame for North Korea even beign around. Hard ot believe that Truman was the same man, who, seven years before, dropped the nukes on Japan and rendered them pacifist for the next six-plus decades!!!!
How asobut President Clinton’s judgment in sending a clueless Secretary of State in 1994, and again, later, an even more clueless Sec’y of State to “broker” a “deal” that ended up giving the North Korean Government exactly what they wanted based on their bad faith: A Nuclear Reactor and all the heavy oil they needed to get it going and keep it going. How’s that for judgment, lgm?
Let’s pray and hope that President Obama DOESN’T have the same kind of “judgment”….
What efforts, lgm? The efforts of DEMOCRAT President Truman to win the war in Korea? Ooops, I guess we forgot that Truman went for the tie instead of the win. There’s one Democrat’s efforts, and it has directly given us the problem we have now. If DEMOCRAT Truman had WON the war in Korea rather than going for the tie, we’d not have this mess, and likely, Red China wouldn’t be Red.
How about President Clinton’s efforts? Are Forgettingm lgm, DEMOCRAT Bill Clinton’s giving the NoKos a friggin’ NUCLEAR REACTOR based on a false promise form the North Korean Government? Madeline Allbright waltzing in and signing a deal Kim Jongil had no desire to keep in the firstp lace? Lets see, that’s two DEMOCRAT Presidents, and Two Efforts, with nothing but TROUBLE as the result.
And what has been the result of President Obama’s desrire for “compassionate” discourse towards the two-bit terror states and ten-penny dicators ,and wanting to “sit down and talk” with our enemies?? Two successful weapons’ tests (if we include Iran, that number rises to four) in two months. And what is President Obama’s reaction? He’s “angry” and he “condemns” North Korea. So far, that’s been it: words and “condemnation”. President Obama — if he truly cares about the USA — needs to put his money where his mouth is.
As some others have posted in here, I have more faith in Kim Jongil and his words than I do our own President’s…..
By the way, a Nuclear Japan? Red China will not only not want that, I daresay that they will do ANY-thing to keep it from happening, including invading Japan. While I’d be all for Japan having nuclear weapons, Red China is not, and they will never sit idly by and let Japan rearm….
You left off idiot.
