The time for O’s mettle test is here: North Korea prepares for war

Joe Biden said our unseasoned Dear Leader would soon be tested. The time is here and now. North Korea tonight has abandoned a 1953 ceasefire and is preparing the peninsula for war in the wake of South Korea’s decision to side with an anti-proliferation coalition led by the U.S.

Wonder if that red phone woke him and Hillary up yet. Brrrrrr–ing. Brrrr–ing:

North Korea’s military says it considers South Korea’s participation in a U.S.-led program to intercept ships suspected of spreading weapons of mass destruction tantamount to a declaration of war against the North.

The communist North’s military said in a statement Wednesday that it will respond with “immediate, strong military measures” if the South actually stops and searches any North Korean ships under the Proliferation Security Initiative.

The statement, carried by the North’s Korean Central News Agency, said North Korea no longer considers itself bound by the armistice that ended the Korean War, as a protest over the South’s participation.

Flashback October 2008:

“Mark my words,” the Democratic vice presidential nominee warned at the second of his two Seattle fundraisers Sunday. “It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”

With all due respect Michelle, until North Korea starts shooting or has troops or aircraft enter South Korea it is demonstrably incorrect to assert that North Korea has abandoned the 1953 ceasefire.

I think the rhetoric in this case is a bit over the top. If the North Koreans are ready to make a move, I support the President 100%. I have no time for politics on this issue. It is too important.

Also, I really do not care what Joe Biden said, last year, because he’s an idiot and what he says is unimportant.

Seriously, are there any men left in Washington? This is embarrassing. Right after Memorial Day for crying out loud! They could at least do we relatively few veterans/service members the respect of at least acting like men. American politicians sure are good at the game of bulls%^* when it’s for winning elections, but when it counts for real, they haven’t a real spine among them. Then add on the pansies of the State Dep. and you truly do have a well-written joke on your hands.

Talking to North Korea has little effect. They take little notice of what we say.

They do take notice of US Navy carrier battlegroups heading their way, fighter groups going to five minute alert, radar site powering up and AWACS aircraft arrving, as ell as Marine amphibious units and the 25th Infantry Division going on alert.

Teddy Roosevelt understood a North Korea perfectly.

We owe the Norks bigtime–for the Pueblo, for the ax murders of our military in the DMZ, for the real prisoner abuse (not “panties on the head stuff”) that they have done in the past. And some Japanese payback for kidnapping their citizens is long overdue.
    ***
Other countries do not have the stomach (Huevos in Spanish) to start charging the Norks. However, the U.S. Navy could do a naval blockade on them. I think Ronald Reagam (may God bless his soul) could figure out how to “put the hurts” on them.

President O’bummer (PBUH) doesn’t care about foreign policy stuff. His goal is to “community organize” or “socialize” the new U.S.S.A. and our wallets.

I agree to a point, Flyoverman. This could be another way for NoKo to shake down the US and Japan for money…but the endemic absence of strong and determined leadership by the US on NoKo’s nuclear program will encourage them to make more and more provocative moves and then they will make a big mistake..or we will in response.

When Krazy Kim’s official news agency says that it “no longer considers itself bound by the armistice”, I would have to say that they abandoned it, even without the thousands upon thousands of artillery shells descending upon Seoul.

Hmmmm, this opens a serious can of worms for the UN, seeing as how the Korean War was UN sanctioned and supported. Several countires took part in the War on both sides, overtly and covertly.

Throwing out the ‘armistice’ is certainly a bold move and I wonder does that obligate the countries who originally participated in the War to pick up arms again? Will they?

Would it be up to Pres Obama, or the UN, to get those ducks in a row?

NK nuke program goes back to the 80′s which was pretty far along until signing the NPT treaty in 1985 with the UN. It was under Clinton that the program became it’s strongest.

As we see historically NK has been a problem for 6 decades and always violates any and all treaties it signs. No matter what we do it will always be the same game.

Russia has just come out and is afraid NK will commit a real nuke attack. So who strikes first is the question pre-emptive and who strikes NK or wait and see if they strike SK or Japan?

Keep this in mind: China is NoKo’s number 1(and only) ally. The Chinese People’s Republic Army is the sole owner of COSCO(China Overseas Shipping Company). COSCO happens to be one of the largest container shipping companies in the world. A good estimate is that fifty percent of the items we import from China are shipped via COSCO.

How hard do you think it would be for NoKo to strike a deal with China to have a few nukes transshipped to China and exported in shipping containers destined for West Coast POEs? Or to any other potential adversary(Japan comes to mind)?

Meanwhile, our DHS is busy trying to figure out how to get us labeled as Right Wing Extremists without raising such a fuss about it. As good as the Coast Guard is(and I tip my hat to them), they can’t check every container that comes into Long Beach, Oakland, Seattle, or Portland.

The cost of a container ship and its cargo would be a cheap price to pay for Korea/China to smear the proverbial egg all over the face of our committed socialist POTUS and Bozo. They wouldn’t be able to reprogram the TOTUS fast enough.

We might not see millions die, but it’s entirely possible that the toll could be in the hundreds of thousands. Can’t do enough community organizing to cover over that kind of a disaster.

Yes, this is serious, folks. This isn’t an empty threat. Kim Jong Il means business, and he has two things going for him: (1) he has the weapons and ability to back up his call; and (2) his major opponent is an empty suit with no experience in dealing with the REAL bad guys.

I agree. I don’t dispute what the media is reporting the North is saying, but North Korea postures like this every six months or so. I’m almost certain I’ve read similar ‘abandoning the armistice’ rhetoric from them before. It’s premature hysteria.

NK knows that using a nuke will be their own death sentence, and moreover there’s no advantage for NK in attacking the south with nuclear weapons. Given South Korea’s superior training and equipment, it would likely go very badly for NK if they tried a conventional fight with the South.

Yes…in a rational world and with a rational leader. However, KJI is anything but. This is a man who has been starving his own people for a very long time, and who…essentially…has nothing left to lose. As I said in another post, KJI has some very strong environmental factors on his side.

His country borders China and South Korea, and is up-wind from Japan (just across the Sea of Japan).

IF KJI were to release a nuclear device, then the USA would likely have grounds to retaliate with one. I cannot imagine a situation where China, S. Korea or Japan (or any combination thereof) would tolerate more than one or two US strikes on NK.

    KJI knows this.

There is also the fact that China won’t want US troops along the Yalu any more than we’d want Chinese troops on the Rio Grande. If conventional war comes, China will want all parties to return to the 38th. Perhaps – perhaps – they would tolerate an offensive that unseats KJI’s regime and gets rid of the nuclear program, but even that is iffy.

The fact is, China benefits by having this loose cannon under their control, and we all know that KJI exists at the pleasure of China.

Most disconcerting: once N. Korea has a nuclear ICBM that can reliably reach the US Northwest, China has the ability to basically gut the US economy if/when it chooses with no traceable link back to them and no fear of retribution.

As I said before, this is a classic assymetry, and it makes for a very difficult strategic situation.
