Document drop: What NYTimes reporter Stephanie Strom really knew about ObamACORN

Photoshop credit: Leo Alberti
Here are just a few of the exchanges between NYTimes reporter Stephanie Strom and ACORN whistleblower Anita MonCrief last summer and fall over the increasingly obvious links between ACORN, Project Vote, and the Obama campaign. (Both Strom and MonCrief used pseudonymous e-mail addresses while communicating). It was my blog post on the ACORN/CSI money-laundering scheme that prompted MonCrief to push the story with Strom. Thanks to MonCrief’s continued campaign to get the truth out and aided by investigative crowd-sourcing predominantly on the right side of the blogosphere (in addition to MonCrief’s testimony for Pennsylvania lawyer Heather Heidelbaugh), a plethora of documents and information continue to pour across the web. I’ll have much more on this tomorrow and in coming days. But read these and compare with NYTimes public editor’s smug dismissal of the “Tip that didn’t pan out.”
To quote Strom: “The real story to all this is how these myriad entities allow them to shuffle money around so much that no one really knows what’s getting spent on what…”
How you like these apples now, Mr. Hoyt?
Note: Emails may be a bit hard to read. I’ll put up transcripts shortly, but wanted you to see the originals.

And one of my favorites, in which Strom (”Annie Maus”) writes that she is halting her ACORN reporting efforts and muses: “One of these days, the truth is going to come out.” Yeah, it is:

Glen Beck has also done a very fine job of exposing ACORN.
Strom – you’re a tool.
Since the MSM is in bed with Obama, Eric Holder is the Attorney General, and this all leads straight to The President getting to the truth is going to be a monumental task.
I am no lawyer, but I wonder if citizens have any legal recourse through civil law suits against ACORN?
I just finished a piece on how Dale Rathke, brother of long time CEO Wade Rathke, embezzled about a million dollars, and how Wade covered it up. This is only the beginning of the story and ACORN must be stopped.
Blogged that last July. More to come.
When it’s too late to matter. Why didn’t they tell this stuff BEFORE election day, when we needed it? Oh yeah, ’cause then their man, Duh One, might have lost then.
Hey Michelle,
Off topic, but, the next time you talk to your brother-in-law Evgeni Malkin, of the Pittsburgh Penguins, give him my best wishes as they play Detroit in the Stanley Cup finals.
I would really like to know how many of our so called elected officials are in bed with ACORN and why, with all the investigations going on, ACORN is still in line to receive millions of taxpayer dollars as well as being part of the Census.
Yeah, I read the NY Times story also but they don’t tell the whole story. ACORN 8 was created largely as a result of the cover up of this embezzlement. Furthermore, they gloss over the manner in which both Rathke brothers were dealt with by the org. Furthermore, everyone involved in the cover up is still in a position of power in ACORN.
Depends on the proximity of any harm done by ACORN.
A better venue is to press your state AG for an investigation and action under both civil and criminal law. There appears to be plenty with which to work.
My what an evil web they weave. ACORN has no business being involved with registering voters or the census.
This administration’s corruption is so wide spread and supported (as in the hacking of all from Joe the Plmbr to Sarah Palin) I don’t think anything will ever come to light. Anyone who really gets any traction will probably end up with cement shoes.
Of course the citizens do. ACORN receives millions from the government, or the tax payers, and then routinely spends it on things it isn’t earmarked for.
That last email from Strom is very interesting. She was contacted by a spokesman for the Obama Campaign, and that’s when she stepped away from the investigation? Alarm bells must have been going off in her head, yet she decided that she was going to end it there? This stinks.
Rambler: All of this mess is the NATURE of ACORN’s business. period.
You’re joking, right?
When conservatives complained about ACORN during the campaign, Obama lovers scoffed. Will their reaction change (ugh, there’s that word again!) if the MSM finally publishes the truth? We may never know; they were so much in the bag for The One.
txvet2 said:
I should have said how deep does this go but I can answer my own questions. I would just like to see the names in print and the excuses why they still receive money.
“My Acorns are killing me.” “Why don’t you do something for them?” “Why should I? They never did anything for me!”
- Shemp Howard & Harry Gribbon (CORN ON THE COP, 1934)
You’re right; there’s a lot of that to be exposed.
I’m waiting for somebody — anybody — to expose just how much illegal money Hope-a-Dope raised over the Internet by intentionally disabling safeguards against fraud and by refusing to disclose (except to ACORN) the identities of less-than-$200 online donors.
This is what you get when you couple liberal “My superior morality and intelligence, coupled with the unquestionable righteousness of my aims, justifies my unethical and illegal means” smugness with “reporters” and “editors” who not only agree with that philosophy but also see it as their duty to protect and propagate the party-line narrative — no matter how self-servingly dishonest it is — instead of following the evidence where it leads.
The New York Times does not employ “reporters.” They have on staff “Hit-men” and “Erasers,” depending on who/what they want to destroy or promote.
This is how we’re going to lose the Republic, folks: by donk ideologues and their media enablers, chipping away at it one piece at a time until there’s nothing left.
Oh yeah, we can count on Obama appointees to investigate corruption in the Obama administration.
The ONLY Special Prosecutor this administration calls for will be to try Bush and Cheney for war crimes.
Correction:
Just for clarity, the letter actually reads, “One of these days, the truth is going to come out.”
I tend to think that most Americans are basically ‘good’ and guilt is a pretty heavy load. Some in the MSM, Acorn, contributors and others who are in Obama’s inner circle have to be feeling it.
What will come first, suicides or whistle blowing? Someone inside will have to come forward because all the blogs in the world won’t break this wide-open.
Personally I am in favor of UNCIVIL actions v ACORN, Popcorn, MauMau New Panthers Party and George Sorosites, Obaminites and the rest of the Sodomites.
When we have a President friends with a man who wants to kill 25 million Americans I tend to get a tad cranky. Where is Paul Bunyan when we need him?

It’s time to go fishing!
Ok, so where will this go? Do we have to call 9-1-1 and say we have an emergency before anyone with any authority looks at this?
Beck is doing something pretty damning tonight on ACORN.
He has uncovered serious marxist roots and it should be an
interestingdisturbing showThanks
And his campaign website is still active and raising money there, no doubt in the same manner as the “08 campaign.
I am soooo glad that John McCain got rid of the corrupting influence of money in politics. I can’t wait for him to fix immigration…
ACORN is huge. Its reach is so deep and dark that it may prove almost dangerous to dig in.
The money involved is enourmous and has ties to the Tides Foundation (T.Heinz Kerry et al) and has over 150 sub groups that feed off its teat.
To quote Duh One:
“You ain’t seen nothin’ yet!”
Just like the NYTIMES and Dan Rather with the forged info on Bush prior to his election. Looks like a pattern here…….
Google map that address in New Orleans she mentions in the first letter… 1024 Elysian Fields, New Orleans, LA ….. and the street-view it…
That’s a pretty tiny / shabby place to house 50+ ACORN related entities….
But…..nothing to see here, move along, folks….
I think John Kerry was the first real test project of ACORN for a WH run. They learned their lessons with him, filled in all the gaps, tuned up the machine and turned out their best employee to take the prize.
This story is getting juicy Michelle. A lot of interesting names coming up:
-American Constitution Society (Eric Holder, Hillary Clinton)
-1024 Elysian Fields (SEIU, Wade Rathke)
Tides Foundation (Drummond Pike)
Center for American Progress Action Fund (John Podesta, Bill Clinton)
Project Vote (Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, Teamsters)
I wonder what it all means…
Ah, but is ACORN too big to fail?
Meanwhile in the White House
PressRomper Room, thereporterschildren laugh and giggle.I gather this won’t be on World News Tonight.
Beck said this AM that he would have much more on this ACORN/Obama house of corruption tonight at his TV show at 5:00 pm.
I need to get into the 21st century and get TiVO. I’ve not seen Beck’s show!
I hate to say it, but I sure hope his life insurance is paid up.
Southpaw..it means there has been for a long time a concerted effort or conspiracy on the left to take power of this country and the wealth of the people and use it to their advantage or well being. No way is Obama and his thugs just shooting from the hip. For the last 30 years this takeover has been planned, studied and now has been implemented in this country. They have figured out every move the Patriot has and placed new laws or anti-USA types in power to block any civilized change in government. Basically our hands are tied now. The only remedy I see is a coup or take over of the government. It will be messy but its the only way we will get our country back. The left has played our own laws against us to be able to do this. They make it seem like they are doing right but underneath is corruption of people, establishments, agencies, law and the US Constitution. The process of voting ( by the way the only way we can change things) has been corrupted and allowed to continue is the downfall of this democracy. We will never be able to change anything by voting. The corruption will not allow this to happen. The major problem with the people of this country is that they say “it can never happen here” or ” we have safeguards to prevent that” or just plain old complacency. So when the NBPP come for your property, it will be too late. Worst when they round you up for one of the holding pens at our army bases. From the latest dinner party in Kalifornia, Obama touts,” You haven’t seen anything yet”. I wonder what that means.
There’s this ginormous elephant in the room. It stinks. It’s loud. It’s crapping up the floor. It’s crushing people left and right and…..
no one seems compelled to speak up…
Why are we going through another Germany experience when we all said NEVER AGAIN?!
What the hell is the matter with us?
I posted this on the New Black Panthers thread, but it’s worth repeating here:
My preferred method of fighting back is a classic Judo move: Use their own strengths against them. The left has become so blatant and arrogant in their rise to power, I feel they are exposed to political assault on many fronts and from many directions. The strategy is to keep them on the defensive until the 2010 election, peel off the Reagan Democrats and regain control of Congress.
The American Communist Party has been wrecking havoc since, at least, the 1920’s. Woodrow Wilson was concerned as have been most conservative leaders since. They are relentless in their pursuits and work quietly behind the scenes until they achieve the results they want. We’ve been so blinded by our own prosperity we’ve failed and dropped the ball on this one. Name me one fan of American Idol that would shut it off to attend a political rally? Until that time, you can holler till the cows come home but these subversives will continue to get appointed and/or elected.
Speaking of ACORN, and a bit off-topic…have any of you heard about the long-form census that is going to go out? Apparently it has specifically stated that ALL questions MUST be answered BY LAW. There are some really invasive questions that are none of the government’s business. Like, “do you have a flush toilet?” or “how many cars do you have?” or “what time do you leave for work?” Is that any of their business, and why would they need to have that information? I would like to ask the lawyers on this thread if you know of any law that says a private citizen MUST answer personal questions to the government. Isn’t this an invasion of privacy? I don’t think I am going to answer some of these questions unless they can give me a specific law that states I must! What do you think?
Annie Maus is likely very relieved to have someone else wiling to carry this story.
Thank you, Michelle.
All warfare is based on deception.
Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable;
when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we
are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away;
when far away, we must make him believe we are near.
Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him.
If he is secure at all points, be prepared for him.
If he is in superior strength, evade him.
If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to
irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant.
If he is taking his ease, give him no rest.
If his forces are united, separate them.
Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected.
Sun Tzu 514 B.C.
ACORN must be killed at the root.
happyscrapper, This might make you pee your pants. If you ask me it’s not so much about counting as much as it is about locating….if you catch my drift.

ACORN requests 2010 census duties with rights to go after “Law Enforcement, Hate Groups and anti immigration foes” ?
William Amos
Uh yah…. like ACORN maybe???
So I wonder what would happen if I didn’t answer some questions, or was perhaps a bit inventive with my answers. Not saying I could ever do that, of course!
I don’t think I will speak to anyone who comes to the door and identifies as ACORN. I just can’t do it. So arrest me! I won’t give information to those corrupt people. Ever. They can put the cuffs around my old skinny wrists and drag me away. I mean that.
Aren’t there any enterprising young hackers out there that can ‘acquire’ the database. The names and addresses are crap, but if they sort on the credit card numbers I’m sure they will find multiple donations on the same number under multiple names.
One other thing…I have something going for me that I can use, even in my old age. It is…OLD AGE! If I am ever dragged away or otherwise harrassed by the govm’t, it will look pretty bad. I have white hair, and I am small. While in vigorous health, I can fake feebleness very very well if I have to. I can wobble and shake with the best of them! That is what I can contribute…bad publicity against the brownshirts. Happyscrapper doesn’t just pertain to scrapbooking.
Ditto.
Happyscrapper,
I’m not giving anymore info than who lives in my house!
Maybe if some of us are arrested it may give us a chance to bring this CRAP into the light of day!!
ACORN will be the shock troops of the “generated crisis”…as will Sotomayor’s la Raza.
Martial law is coming. They dont plan to takeover peacefully as long as there is a Second Ammendment.
Call me a tinfoil hat wearing survival if you must; but, do not say I didnt warn y’all.
Bear1909
“Call me a tinfoil hat wearing SURVIVALIST…..”
should have read that way.
My CCW class starts in 2hrs 10mins.
Googling businesses at 1024 Elysian Fields, New Orleans yields the following four businesses:
- Acorn
- Wal Mart
- Citizens Consulting Inc
- Affiliated Media Foundation
That seems like alot to cram into one tiny house!
Flyoverman, excellent summary of strategies. I play the computer version of the board game “Risk”, and using that philosophy, it’s very difficult to be defeated. Many are applicable in politics and other real life situations.
Wow. I’d love to know who exactly it was at the Obama campaign who was screaming and yelling and calling her a member of the right wing attack machine.
Craig T. Smith (The Coach, etc.) was just on Glenn Beck and vowed not to pay any more taxes until the government stops spending foolishly. He said that they are spending on things he does not agree with. Beck asked him if he thought he would go to jail and he said he probably would! A high-profile actor in our corner. Yes!! And Rags, if you read this, your idea might be taking root. I wonder how many people out there are thinking the same way? There is probably a large grass-roots effort underway that is still under the radar. I pray it is so! And nice to hear I’m not alone in my concern over the census.
Flyoverman #49
Glenn Beck just quoted Sun Tsu as well. Great minds on the same track or he’s busy reading MM.
bear1909
Where to run, where to consider relocating, where is there a safe place? It’s a very scary world.
I visited the Alamo last year. I could fix the place up very nicely and hole up there for a long time. And San Antonio is a great city.
Ha! It’s more like 254 businesses. Nearly 300 to be more precise.
Many anti war protestors stopped paying taxes since they didn’t support spending on the war. Many were arrested and owe back taxes and penalties they can’t pay. They got themselves in big trouble. When paying taxes, we can’t decide where we want ours to go. That would be absurd. We can elect reps who represent the people, just maybe not all the people.
I do agree that it is a scary thought to protest by not paying taxes. You can lose your home and everything you have, plus go to jail. I don’t think I am ready to take that step at my age! You have to agree, though, that the things our tax money goes to fund under this administration are just plain wrong. I don’t want to fund abortion or embryonic stem cell research. I don’t want to fund ACORN and those ridiculous pork projects like a rail from CA to Las Vegas. Good Grief! On the other hand, protesting the tactics of ACORN and questions regarding the census might be a cause I could help with. There has to be something unconstitutional about the questions on those forms!
More and more every day. We will find many others as they understand that they do not have to participate in the actual boycott to participate.
I’m working on this as I can.
STARVE THE BEAST.
I have a feeling there is a lot going on in this country that Odumbo would be surprised about. Grass roots movements everywhere. The American people are smart, resiliant, and refuse to be destroyed…at least those who still have brains, which excludes the likes of lgm, etc. Good luck, and keep me posted!!
Count on it! I love you, Scrappy!
I was a census taker during the last one and I recall being told during indoctrination that if the person refuses to give information then that is their right and we were to just thank them for their time and walk away.
I have never watched o’riley (I misspelled it on purpose), but tonight he is going to deal with acorn. He was on Beck this afternoon dealing with this mess. I will watch to see if he comes up with anything new. If you did not see Beck this afternoon on Fox about acorn, you might look at it. MM, Fox, and Beck are all over this.
L
OT, but only some…
The next economy killer…especially for the entrepreneurial small-to-mid size business…is the implementation of the new Consumer Product Safety regs.
Congress has already passed these, and passed them on to the bureaucrats so they can propound the regs. These are going to be economic activity KILLERS, and need to be immediately withdraw, and the law changed.
Be aware…!!!!
Back at you!!
That’s good to know. I think the threat of the law is just that…a threat. Many people would be intimidated by that, but I doubt there is any such law. That is definitely this administration’s tactic…intimidation! Chicago Mafia thug tactics. And ACORN “employees” are only too happy to do the dirty work.
It is gratifying to know those three are working on this issue (and many more, I am sure)! If anyone can dig up the truth, they can! I pray for them and hope they have protection. The saving grace is that there is strength in numbers and if anything happens to any of them, there will be he11 to pay! I’m sure the Chicago mafia is aware of that and will tread lightly. On the other hand, you can be sure they don’t want the truth to come out!
That is why we pay plumbers well-dangerous, dirty work. From the cast of characters listed on Glenn Beck I would guess they are down right capable of anything. That is why we pay police officers well-dangerous, dirty work.
But the sewer needs cleaning.
Elections have consequences. Unfortunately, Obama realizes he may only have a small window to push through his radical agenda. He is going full bore and the Congress is an enabler.
Bush never had a supermajority so he could not do this kind of agenda push even if he had wanted to. With Snow, Collins and McCain in the Senate, Obama has that supermajority and he is taking full advantage of it.
I suspect the people will become more and more fed up with things as the economy continues to tank. The next election cycle begins in Summer of 2010. If the economy is still bad then the blame Bush rhetoric will be wearing thin no matter the media support. You can fool some of the people…
Republicans MUST have their act together and get the ball rolling downhill before that election cycle begins.
The Tea Parties are where it should start for the taxation & wealth distribution issue. As for economic policy and regulation I am not sure what the grassroots are. For election fraud and corruption, this Acorn thing and the Chicago politics angle must be front and center as well as the Nancy Pelosi lie.
Obama has Colin Powell out there trying to divide and conquer Republicans and keep them in chaos. We need to soundly reject Colin Powell. How in the world can you endorse the most radical left wing candidate ever and expect me to believe you are a republican? What a farce. Michael Steele is weak. We need to get our new leaders in position.
The majority of the poor are going to be paying so much more. I’m thinking what we think of the poor now will be at poverty level by 2012. The middle class is practically non-exitant at this point and the very rich won’t skip a beat. If the rich do miss a beat it will be to move assets where they cannot be touched. The VAT that’s being brandied about is a killer for all consumers. Thousands of small businesses and some very large ones will simply close their doors. It’s still more important to eat than buy an IPod.
Dexter enjoy your CCW class. Ours was a hoot with a retired USAF shooting team member and the armory officer from the County Sherriff’s Office with mostly active duty or retired military in attendance with our spouses. We both carry because a cop is just too heavy and I don’t think I could afford to feed one enough doughnuts. After all the “Supremes” ruled a long time ago that law enforcement had no obligation to protect law abiding citizens from the savages running loose in our rapidly crumbling society.
I seriously doubt anything can or will be done working within the system. With “dear leader” quickly usurping more and more powers under the Executive Branch of the government and his lap dogs in the Congress quickly passing outrageous legislation the only way to get our country back is going to require hard men doing violent things to return this country to the rule of law. I’m done working within the system my Senators and Congress critters no longer listen to me, my neighbors, or my co-workers and we are pretty damned fed up. Ammunition is almost impossible to find and prices are outrageous for the few spare rounds you can find. I am so glad I stocked up a year before the election. Thanks to all the overtime I have worked lately I have been able to add a couple of Kimber 1911 .45 ACPs to the family arsenal. I have a very bad feeling before this is over we will need them along with every other firearm we posses.
ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒE (mo-lone lah-veh) Translation: Come and take them!
I’ve been toying with getting a CCW but I don’t want to be in any registry, anywhere, of anykind.
Thoughts?
And don’t forget the unseen taxes such as increased prices for goods when inflation takes over. Right now, I think there are some deals to be had as people discount to try and keep some business. Later though..
The Obama administration apparently has ACORN involved in the ‘mortgage crisis’ programs in different states…. In Maryland anyway ACORN is listed as the counseling agency to contact in Baltimore and Prince Georges County for foreclosures assistance.
Seems ACORN is everywhere.
anybody ever read ACORN’s preamble…interesting…sounds like a socialist/communist manifesto to me…
Preamble
We stand for a People’s Platform, as old as our country, and as young as our dreams. We come before our nation, not to petition with hat in hand, but to rise as one people and demand.
We have waited and watched. We have hoped and helped. We have sweated and suffered. We have often believed. We have frequently followed.
But we have nothing to show for the work of our hand, the tax of our labor. Our patience has been abused; our experience misused. Our silence has been seen as support. Our struggle has been ignored.
Enough is enough. We will wait no longer for the crumbs at America’s door. We will not be meek, but mighty. We will not starve on past promises, but feast on future dreams.
We are an uncommon people. We are the majority, forged from all minorities. We are the masses of many, not the forces of few. We will continue our fight until the American way is just one way, until we have shared the wealth, until we have won our freedom.
This is not a simple vision, but a detailed plan.
Our plan is to build an American reality from the American rhetoric, to deliver a piece of the present and the fruits of the future to every man, to every woman, to every family.
We demand our birthright: the chance to be rich, the right to be free.
Our riches shall be the blooming of our communities, the bounty of a sure livelihood, the beauty of homes for our families with sickness driven from the door, the benefit of our taxes rather than their burden, and the best of our energy, land, and natural resources for all people.
Our freedom is the force of democracy, not the farce of federal fat and personal profit. In our freedom, only the people shall rule. Corporations shall have their role; producing jobs, providing products, paying taxes. No more, no less. They shall obey our wishes, respond to our needs, serve our communities. Our country shall be the citizens’ wealth and our wealth shall build our country.
Government shall have its role: public servant to our good, fast follower to our sure steps. No more, no less. Our government shall shout with the public voice and no longer to a private whisper. In our government, the common concerns shall be the collective cause.
We represent a people’s platform, not a politician’s promise.
We demand the changes outlined in our platform and plan. We will work to win. We will have our birthright. We will live in richness and freedom. We will live in one country as one people.
Wales we already now we are targeted as enemies of the current administration. Both Mrs. Boomer and I are veterans, conservative, strict constitutionalist, religious, staunchly against the wholesale slaughter of the unborn, NRA members, who fly the Gadsen flag except on those days when flying the “Stars & Stripes” would be more appropriate. We figured what harm would it do to make another hit list at DHS/FBI/ATF by legally protecting ourselves.

The ACORN manifesto is right out of Lenin and Marx, with a tantilizing page or two right out of the big H from Germany. Thanks for pulling it. We need some legal minds to write a manifesto for the downtrodden taxpayer.
Boomer#89
I commend you for thinking ahead with the ammo issue. I waited too long and now it’s like gold. Even practice stuff is way off the chart. Fortunately or unfortunately, I live in a state, part-time, that has more weapons than people, and the other half of the year I live in a state that can threaten to secede. Both are populated by very independent people, so I’d have some company in a push come to shove moment. I’ve been able to get my CCW for well over a year, but haven’t since Oregon (I believe) threatened to publish the names and addresses for those with them.
I suggest…
I REFUSE to be eaten.
STARVE THE BEAST.
You do not have to refuse to pay taxes to help starve the beast. Think interest people. Lower your witholding to $0.00 and file numerous extensions- all legally. Pay them slower and slower. Force them to overplay their hand and The People will catch on. They believe your money is THEIR money. Do you? When is enough, enough?
YES!!!
THAT is how it is done.
THAT and a THOUSAND OTHER WAYS that we will invent, develop, and think out together.
Yes WE CAN. (To pirate a phrase.)
Did that as soon as they passed the craptastic spending bill.
