They thought it would go away. They were wrong. Obama and the Left thought ACORN’s scandalous racket was a dead issue. But whistleblowers, investigative bloggers, and talk radio continue to press for transparency and taxpayer accountability. Iowa GOP Rep. Steve King has renewed efforts for congressional hearings into the financial structure of the massive, publicly subsidized activist group and its non-profit affiliates. Judicial Watch sheds light on ACORN’s partnership with the Census. Keep an eye on ACORN’s propaganda role in the Obama push for a government health care takeover. And Glenn Beck spotlights the left-wing strategy session to rescue ACORN.
My column today returns to one of the Obama campaign’s big lies — that Barack Obama “never organized with ACORN” and that ACORN had nothing to do with Project Vote. They were joined at the hip back then and they remain joined at the hip today.

Left-wing groups in Washington, D.C., are panicked. The New York Times and other Team Obama whitewashers have tried hard to suppress mounting evidence of legally suspect coordination between the Obama presidential campaign, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), and Obama’s old employer Project Vote (ACORN’s non-profit canvassing arm). Alas, the truth keeps seeping out.
At a closed-door pow-wow hosted Thursday at the left-leaning Center for American Progress, activists discussed how to combat a relentless stream of corruption charges from ACORN/Project Vote whistleblowers. But it’s too late for a reputation bailout. Former Project Vote official and whistleblower Anita MonCrief has harnessed the Internet to crowd-source a massive cache of documents showing ties between Obama staff and the supposedly “non-partisan” ACORN operations.
Last fall, the New York Times abandoned an investigation into whether Obama had shared donor lists with Project Vote, a 501(c)(3) organization that is prohibited from engaging in political activity. Public editor Clark Hoyt earlier this month called it “the tip that didn’t pan out.” Critics suggested that the donor lists could have been compiled through public records. But I have obtained the lists — not only of Obama donors, but also lists of Democratic National Committee, Hillary Clinton, and John Kerry contributors. The records include small donors to the Obama campaign who are not disclosed in public campaign finance databases. It’s information only a campaign could supply.
MonCrief testified under oath last fall that her then-boss, Karyn Gillette, gave her the Obama donor list and told her the campaign had furnished it. Moreover, e-mail between ACORN, Project Vote, and other affiliates, including ACORN’s subsidiary, Citizens Services, Inc. (CSI), make explicit references to working on “Obama campaign related projects.” [Click here for the e-mail.] The “list of maxed out Obama donors” is explicitly mentioned in staff e-mail. [Click here for the e-mail.] Another message from ACORN/Project Vote official Nathan Henderson-James warns ACORN and affiliated staff to prepare for “conservatives…gearing up a major oppo research project on Obama.”
Henderson-James wrote obligatorily, “Understand I’m not suggesting that we gear up to defend a candidate’s campaign.” But that, of course, is exactly what the ACORN enterprise did.

Why does this matter? Transparency, tax dollars, and electoral integrity. ACORN’s own lawyer, Elizabeth Kingsley, acknowledged last year that a vast web of tax-exempt ACORN affiliates were shuffling money around – making it difficult to impossible to track whether campaign rules and tax regulations were being followed. ACORN receives 40 percent of its revenues from taxpayers. Americans deserve to know whether and how much commingling of public money with political projects has occurred over the last four decades – and what role the Obama campaign played in this enterprise.
Remember: Last August, the Obama team admitted its failure to properly disclose $800,000 in payments to ACORN’s subsidiary, CSI – which works hand-in-hand with Project Vote and the ACORN parent organization. Obama mysteriously re-classified the campaign advance work expenditures as “get-out-the-vote” activities. Nary a peep from electoral integrity watchdogs.
Despite heated denials from Team Obama, the links between ACORN, Project Vote, and CSI are inextricable. As Obama himself reminded ACORN leaders after its political action committee endorsed his presidential candidacy in February 2008:
I come out of a grassroots organizing background. That’s what I did for three and half years before I went to law school. That’s the reason I moved to Chicago was to organize. So this is something that I know personally, the work you do, the importance of it. I’ve been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career. Even before I was an elected official, when I ran Project Vote voter registration drive in Illinois, ACORN was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work.
As I’ve reported before, the Obama campaign’s “Vote for Change” registration drive, running in conjunction with ACORN/Project Vote, was an all-out scramble to scrape up every last unregistered voter sympathetic to Obama’s big-government vision.
In an e-mail message to whistleblower MonCrief last summer, New York Times reporter Stephanie Strom told the truth: “The real story to all this is how these myriad entities allow them to shuffle money around so much that no one really knows what’s getting spent on what.” By October 6, 2008, Strom had thrown in the towel in the wake of blistering phone conversations with the Obama campaign. She wrote:
“I’m calling a halt to my efforts. I just had two unpleasant calls with the Obama campaign, wherein the spokesman was screaming and yelling and cursing me, calling me a rightwing nut and a conspiracy theorist and everything else…I’d still like to get that file from you when you have a chance to send it. One of these days, the truth is going to come out.”
It’s only just begun.

It’s an amazing story. A scandal really. Sad the alleged national “news” or MSM won’t do a damn tihng about it.
Sadly, many of the American people won’t give a damn either. That’s how we got to this place. My wife said before the last election that the American people aren’t stupid. They know what Obama is and won’t vote for him. Wrong!
The American people are mostly apathetic and don’t vote. The majority of those that do vote are absolutely stupid or they could have easily seen what Obama is all about.
MSM: Nothing to see here, move along. We got our guy in office, we accomplished what we set out to do. Now we have him for at least four years.

I think back to last summer/fall when all our left wing posters were attempting to pooh pooh this whole stinking mess.
We hear this constant diatribe from the Democrats about the “fairness” in elections. Well, if they really mean it they and we need to put partisanship aside and put ALL organizations like ACORN out of business.
People are going to have to hold their nose and be prepared to see some of thier “heros” handcuffed and led into a courthouse, if they want our election process to be what it needs to be.
For those who resist uncovering the facts, they should be treated as “unindicted co-conspirators.” The gloves need to come off. This is way to important to not fight like crazy for.
This is a scandal of watergatian proportions. This is how he got elected, totally gaming the system illegally. Add to this all of the anonymous international donations (which probably won’t be investigated), and you have Chicago style politics on the national and international levels. The administration really needs to nip this one in the bud, you guys better watch your backs. Keep somebody close to you updated on all your plans Michelle, this could be a scary situation.
If ACORN claims tax-exempt status because they claim to be “non-partisan” this blows them out of the water.

I saw Megan Kelley on Fox this morning talking to a Judical Watch guy about acorn getting involved with the censes. He seemed to say, the group doesn’t want consertives to get involved. Megan said she previously had an acorn guy on and she asked him if acorn would be involved with the censes, he said no. Someone is not telling the truth, one guess who?

To add….No more clear example is needed to explain why any news organization should NEVER receive any tax dollars for any kind of bailout. They are just as connected to the left as ACORN, and this whole story being spiked by the NY Rag shows they need to go bankrupt.

It would be interesting to find an area where ACORN has canvassed for the Census and conduct a totally independent, certified canvas of the same area.

What I also want to see investigated is ACORNS role in getting McCain nominated. I saw the whistleblower on Glenn Beck’s show say that they were told to push for Obama and McCain in the primaries. Beck completely missed this.
It was always my opinion that McCain was a fix. He actually gave Obama credibility. The only wrench in the plan was the nomination of Palin for VEEP.

Re: the linked story, can’t say whether that worker has any links to ACORN based on the information available in that article, but the handheld computer is being used by official Census canvassers (that info comes from a reliable – and very conservative – source).
Beyond the fact that the canvassing cited in the article is legit Census MO, what this administration does with the information – now that the One has politicized the previously apolitical Census – is another question entirely.
FYI Census workers have to take and pass a civil service exam, so the odds of their ranks being full of ACORN flunkies is improbable, though not impossible – I hate conspiracy theories on principle, but some are harder to ignore than others. (o<O)
The problem is, I don’t think Obama lovers even care what he did or what ACORN did to get him elected; the end (keeping a Bush ally out of office) justified the means for them. As long as The One’s imaginary approval ratings remain high, he can laugh all of his critics.

Don’t worry about O’Reilly doing anything. He always finishes a discussion by sucking up to “the one”. He did that on Glen Beck’s show last night. If Glen was opposite of O’Reilly he would blow him out of the water and Fox knows that.

First let me say that I am 100% conservative and am scared to death of the direction Obama is taking this country. I just finished doing Census work. I did take a test and passed and took the same oath that “the one” took.
I was doing QC work. $12.50 and hr and .55 cents per mile. I put over 2100 miles on my car in 7 wks. I did it for the extra cash and I was interested in how this was going to be handled. I was given AA(assignment areas), which included several blocks of addresses. I was assigned to verify addresses. I used the HHC(hand held computer). It had a lot of software problems for the first 2 weeks but worked reasonably well after that. There is more about how this worked, but enough for now. Full disclosure on here would not be advisable.
If they did or not it is primarily the leadership and electorate of the Party that supported and vote for the man–”we have to be more moderate-reach out- to win” and thus force several MILLIONS of conservatives to sit on their votes. I just wish that several millions had gone to the polls to vote for the other races.
We are still hearing the chant “Move Left-be Obama Light-don’t offend anyone-surrender all principles”. They wish to make us a more economically sound socialist state. I do believe that if John McCain had of won things would not be all that different-he is not a good person.

Virginia Senators Webb and Warner (the new Dubyas) are walking in lock step with the far liberal left. I’m not surprised at the boorish Webb but I was hoping Warner would be a bit more centrist especially when it comes to economics and the business side of legislation, i.e. the stimulate socialism with our tax dollars debacle.

Given the way that they’re screwing the country straight to Hell, there’s no way that the donks will be able to prevail in fair elections in 2010 and 2012. They know this.
Accordingly, the donks also know that they’re going to have to cheat on an unprecedented, massive scale if they’re going to hold onto Congress and the White House.
Enter ACORN.
Of course that criminal enterprise will continue with its voter fraud activities in upcoming elections; but even that may not be enough to keep the donks from going down to defeat, so it’s time to up the ante. So confident are the donks and their ACORN front organization in their ability to game the electoral system and to violate election laws with impunity that they’re not even bothering to try to hide it anymore. With a party base that consists of “identity groups” including liars, America-haters, phonies and morons, coupled with the VSM (Voluntary State Media(TM)) eager to help in any way they can, the donks’ rapidly inflating sense of hubris is understandable.
And they’ve convinced themselves that everyone outside their base is either too stupid, or too disorganized, or too apathetic to care.
They may be right, at least when it comes to the moribund Republicans in DC.
About the only thing standing in their way is a cadre of 21st Century “New Minutemen,” of which Michelle is a shining example. Pray that that’s enough…

I live in a small town of about 1,200, born and raised same state of 60+ thousand and work in same state, city of around 6 million,,,, so living in a very small town we notice things like strangers and I saw a very slow moving car, of course I stopped and looked and the person driving shouted out, “just verifiying addresses”, must have been with the census.

We were given two signs saying we were doing Census work.I got a lot of “curious” stares my self and was questioned on several occasion, but also met some really nice people and saw some places near where I live that I didn’t know existed.
As I have noted before, there are no rules with respect to the Statists.

I would find it highly unlikely that Acorn would be doing census in many rural areas. One can be sure that they had their people involved in the census however in more populated areas. One only needed to take a test and pass to become a census worker.
The Dems spent years shouting “Diebold” as if voting machines were all rigged – but they are the one subverting the electoral process. Remember it’s the people counting the votes (and making up phony census data) that matter.
Respectfully, you can count on them being in every minority district, rural or not.
In the urban areas, their influence is more…MUCH MORE…effective. Ask the people of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula or Upstate New York, who are GROSSLY unrepresented in the Senate. The cities are the tail that wags the dog.

I thought I would share this with everybody. I am a daily reader and fan of MM. So three days ago, I am in LA for a short vacation and was borrowing a friend’s beat up old car in a pretty shabby part of East LA. We had gone there for the great taco trucks. As we started our drive back to Hermosa Beach, the radiator hose starts spewing steam and making terrible hissing noises and we have to stop the car and pull it over and we open the engine and see that the radiator hose is pretty pathetic. So after about 15 minutes on the side of the road, a beat up old car stops and the guy somehow has a patch or something that actually lets us get back on the road. So we offer the guy, who is pretty straggly looking, some cash as a way of thanking him. The guy refuses even a penny and says the same thing could happen to him. So I then ask him what he does for a living and he (you’ll love this!) he says he is a field organizer for ACORN in the LA area. So all of a sudden, I have to hide my copies of the Weekly Standard, my printed copy of Michelle’s latest column and my Sean Hannity book. But it was one for the ages!
Problem is… what have they done that is illegal? I hear them say, a little voter fraud, just a few bad apples, just an oversight, no real connection here, of course we all know each other. No big deal.
Where is the big crime? Where is the smoking gun? Where is the bombshell that will blow this out of the water? A couple if investigative reports and a blog or two about it. So what?
What will make this the top story so action is taken? Dems benefit from Acorns activity. They will never take action on it. It has to be BIG, BIG news to put in their face or they will ignore just like they ignore illegal immigration and charges the CIA lied to Congress. Where is the big connection with taxpayer money and Obama campaign financing? What is all this keep digging stuff? Dig for what? I want it now. Why can’t we find it now?
