Holy crap: A shooting at an Arkansas Army recruiting center has left one recruiter dead and one wounded. Pray for the families, please:
One Army recruiter was killed Monday and a second was wounded in a shooting at a recruiting office, and a suspect was arrested, police said.
Police Lt. Terry Hastings said the recruiter was shot when a man in a black SUV opened fire on the office in west Little Rock at about 10:30 a.m.
The vehicle was stopped on Interstate 630 a short time later and a suspect was taken into custody. Hastings said the suspect pulled over and surrendered without incident.
Police said they found an assault rifle in the vehicle.
Hastings said he did not know whether the recruiting office was specifically targeted or was randomly chosen.
I wonder if the Justice Department will send marshals to beef up protection at recruiting centers — especially given the past targeting of military centers on campuses and elsewhere across the country.
Too early to say anything about suspect, motives, etc. But these facts are worth bearing in mind:

President Obama issued a statement yesterday after Tiller’s murder: “However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence.”
I hope he will be just as vociferous in condemning heinous acts of violence against our military recruiters.

Meet Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad:
The shooting of two young soldiers, one fatally, outside the Army recruiting station on Rodney Parham about 10 a.m. this morning, has taken on a much broader dimension.
At an afternoon news conference, police said the man who’s suspected in the shooting did not know the victims but shot them because of “ideological reasons.” The suspect was described as a convert to Islam who specifically targeted soldiers for the attack.Police Chief Stuart Thomas said he didn’t appear to be part of a larger conspiracy and appeared to have acted alone.
“He has a disagreement with military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan,” Thomas said.
Federal agencies are on the case.
The suspect, Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, 24, lived on Mara Lynn Drive. He was formerly known as Carlos Bledsoe and apparently moved to Little Rock from Memphis two to three months ago. He also had lived in Nashville, Tenn. recently.
Police identified the dead soldier as Pvt. William Long, 24, of Conway. Wounded was Pvt. Quentin Ezeagwula, 18, of Jacksonville. He’s in serious condition, but isn’t believed to have life-threatening wounds.
ABC News says Muhammad traveled to Yemen using a Somali passport.

We will be hearing about the Tiller case much more than this one. As long as the Tiller case is in the spotlight, this story cannot be allowed to go away, either. Nor should we assume this man acted alone mere hours after the incident while authorities and the media exhaust themselves trying to find a connection between Tiller’s assailant and other people. How can authorities deem yesterday’s incident as possibly part of a larger conspiracy while the other case is already being dismissed as a one-off occurrence? We can’t allow this case to get buried while Tiller dominates the headlines for months to come.

Several weeks ago, when a democrat party leader in Arkansas was murdered, Obama immediately made a statement:

How is it that this piece of sh*t President can take the time to comment on the Tilles murder and an Arkansas dem pol, but not his own soldiers???

Several in the blogosphere are wondering why officials didn’t take him off the street before he shot and killed the young troop, wounded another.
There are questions about this incident as a bellwether for the larger WOT; war or criminal justice exercise, with many saying that THE ONE’s policy seems to be returning to the Clinton pre-911 mode.
They killer appears to have had both the will and weaponry to kill a lot of people, and was targeting Army personnel specifically.
The President did take time yesterday to honor the LGBT group.

Maybe there is a very good lesson here for all Americans.
Both killers were on the radar of law enforcement people. Both had records that raised red flags.
But law enforcement is reactive. All its actions are aimed at responding to a crime, with very little ability to prevent one.
The military/intelligence mindset since 9/11 has been aimed at a proactive mode…at preventing any occurrence of terrorism in the US of any scale.
I don’t think we want law enforcement to be too proactive. There are numerous dangers in that. But our military and intelligence people can hardly be proactive enough, and we want them to continue the excellent work they have been doing since 9/11.

Recruiting is such a difficult thing to do in the best of times. I have a family member who is a Navy recruiter, and you could never find a more noble or braver man.
A active duty unarmed US soldier, in uniform, is ambushed and murdered in broad daylight by an avowed Muslim Jihadist. If this took place on September 15, 2001, what would have been the reaction of the press and the President? What are the chances the “O man” has called this soldiers parents? This entire episode stinks like a rotted fish.
A few months ago a Muslim Jihadist flew a small plane from Canada into the US….just to gauge the reaction from Homeland Security and the military. Now they have killed a soldier just to see our reaction…. Obama did not say a word (though Fox News had it running on their ticker during Obama’s introduction of McHugh).
McHugh did not make mention of it either. How shameful is that that the new Sec of Army does not even bring up the tragedy.

I believe His words also apply to those who break His law and commit murder, no matter how they may try to justify it. I don’t care what Tiller’s murderer called himself – and I especially don’t care what people like lgm call him. By his own willful act of murder he stands condemned in the eyes of God and in the eyes of those who believe in God’s law.
