Finally: Obama’s limp statement on the jihadi attack in Arkansas

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 3, 2009 09:30 PM

The White House finally got around to releasing a statement on the jihadi attack against our troops at the Arkansas military recruitment center.

Here is the entire statement:

“I am deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence against two brave young soldiers who were doing their part to strengthen our armed forces and keep our country safe. I would like to wish Quinton Ezeagwula a speedy recovery, and to offer my condolences and prayers to William Long’s family as they mourn the loss of their son.”

“Senseless?” It made perfectly good sense to a vengeful Muslim convert jihadi bent on “killing as many people in the Army as he could.”

For contrast, here is Obama’s full statement on the Tiller murder, issued just hours after the shooting:

I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning. However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence.

Caleb Howe is underwhelmed:

“It’s in keeping with the Obama administration’s passive language, such as the euphemisms “overseas contingency operation” or “man-caused disaster” … Obama’s statement on the murder of Pvt. William A. Long is just as passive in voice and blame. He’s not outraged, he’s saddened. Not by someone who committed a “heinous act” but rather by a senseless violence. It might have been a bolt of lightning for all the pushback Obama has to share.

He waits three days and then the best he can muster is an abstract sadness at something that, judging by his statement, might well have been a mere accident of fate…

***

Blood pressure alert from Doug Ross: Did White House order FBI to “back off” anti-terror investigations of radicalized Muslim converts?

***

Pvt. Long’s funeral is set for Monday:

Funeral arrangements have been set for an Army private fatally shot outside a Little Rock recruiting office.

Griffin Leggett Funeral Home in Conway says the family of Pvt. William Long will hold a public funeral at 10 a.m. Monday at the Harlan Park Baptist Church in Conway. The funeral home says Long will be buried at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock at noon Monday.

It was released today on the front page of my local paper that Mr. Long, who was murdered, was a recent graduate of basic training at Fort Benning GA. That means he lived in my city. (Columbus GA). If I had been outraged before- I’m downright furious now! And pacifist B.Hussein Obama could not care less. In the wake of a Muslim attack on Americans, he is still interested on “just being friends.” with the Muslims! Here’s a newsflash OBAMA- They’re JUST NOT THAT IN TO YOU!

True but also what he “can’t” do is anything that makes his m.o. for national security look to be failing as opposed to President Bush’s succeeding. That reality will warp any coverage and framing of any attack within our borders.

    “IS a legitimate military target…”

Huh? Are you serious? By whom and in what context? This was an American young man, not the member of a foreign army with whom we have a declared war?

That is also why Obama’s statement is more insulting than anything else. He made a bit deal out of the abortionist murder and that is NOT how Americans are suppose to handle disagreements. Well, ok. I agree. Murder is not acceptable. The shooter at the recruiter station IS an American too!

I guess murder is okay IF the disagreement is between a Muslim and everyone else?

    Very goofy. Very goofy.

FNC Special Report’s online broadcast from last night is well worth the watch on this topic.

Major Garret comes on to discuss the White House handling of it. The White House prepared a comment to be released about the attack for “those who requested comment.” He goes on in the discussion to explain the White House explained this was available upon request instead of just releasing it because the press didn’t seem interested.

After all, it can’t be Obama’s fault. Garett was clearly squirming, knowing how awful what he was saying sounded. Well worth the watch, as is Juan Willimas’ telling defense and Bret Baier’s reactions during the conversation.

For anyone who might be interested, this is the local spin from yesterday:

Little Rock – The lawyer for a Muslim convert accused of killing a soldier outside a Little Rock recruiting center says the man was “tortured” and “radicalized” in a Yemeni prison.

In an interview with The Associated Press, lawyer Jim Hensley also said that Abdulhakim Muhammad did not tell police that there would have been more bloodshed in Monday’s attack had more soldiers been outside the recruiting station.

Muhammad has pleaded not guilty to a capital murder charge in the death of Pvt. William Long of Conway. Another soldier was wounded in the attack. Little Rock police said Muhammad told officers he could have killed more.

The lawyer says Muhammad went to Yemen to teach English to Afghani war refugees but was detained because of problems with his visa. In prison, according to the lawyer, “hardened terrorists” abused him.

    Just another victim.

Late returning to this topic (had to get some sleep after a very long couple of days), but your comments have enticed me into making a [somewhat philosophical] observation.

If you look at those words attributed to Scipio (never mind that the numbers don’t actually add up – like those who say they gave 110 % ;-) ) in the context of the beliefs that were prevalent in his lifetime, stoicism and the idea seen in so much of Greek and Roman mythology that no matter what a person did, the gods could and too often did intervene to nullify those choices, his words make sense. They could be interpreted as a rejection of fatalism and an embrace of the concept of free will – not to mention personal responsibility.

The reason I bother to posit this idea is that it also applies to our faux-potus and most particularly to Pvt. Long’s murderer. No matter the perceived (or imagined) wrongs he claims inspired him to murder one soldier and seriously wound another, when he stands before the ultimate Judge, it is Scipio’s 96% that will be weighting the scale.

As the apostle Paul wrote (rough paraphrase), In your anger, do not sin. Note that he didn’t say that anger wasn’t justified when we are wronged, but how we react to it can be.

I think Abortionists need to reach out to assassins, to try to understand where they’re coming from and embrace their differences. Abortionists need to take the lead in forgiving assassins, to stop cowering in fear and beg forgiveness from snipers and homicidal maniacs.

What the hell – this is how Obama tells us to treat and deal with bloodthirsty enthusiastic Muslim terrorists evangelicals, maybe he should give the same advice to abortionists.
