This reminds me of claims by so-called “historians” who said that over two hundred MILLION African slaves were involved in the slave trade from its inception to its end. They also claimed that the vast majority of them died en route(obviously, because less than 5 million people of African decent were alive by the end of the Civil War, or about 2.5% of that number), and their bodies subsequently became shark food. They went on to say that sharks STILL swim along the slave route, looking for more scraps of human jettison to feast upon.

The ridiculousness of these claims notwithstanding, there are LOTS of folks out who were taught this revisionist nonsense who actually believed it. I do not doubt that there are “African studies” departments in our major universities who still peddle this tripe.
