The new government cure-all: Meditation!

If we just all sit criss-cross-applesauce-style and chant “Ommmmm,” the economy will improve, peace will reign, and the world will be a better place! Via Eric Zimmerman at The Hill:
Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) says he’s found a cost effective way to address chronic pain, stress, and other illnesses: meditation.
Ryan is urging policymakers to consider adding “mindfulness education”–learning to reduce one’s own stress level–to healthcare reform legislation.
“Every day, I meditate for at least 45 minutes before leaving home in the morning,” Ryan wrote on his website. “I find it makes me a better listener, and my concentration is sharper. I get less distracted when I’m reading. It’s like you see through the clutter of life and can penetrate to what’s really going on.”
At a hearing last week, Ryan asked HHS Secretary Kathleen [Sebelius] to keep in mind the positive effects of mindfulness when re-working the nation’s healthcare system…
…”I think it’s a prevention strategy that I know has the potential of paying huge dividends,” Sebelius said.

Michael Savage gets proven correct more and more with each passing day.
LIBERALISM IS A MENTAL DISORDER.
Is that with or without the “kumbaya?”
I thought government-sponsored prayer was a no-no???
The following also works.
Bluto: [after chugging a whole bottle of Jack without a pause for air] Thanks. I needed that.
[chucks the bottle behind him, which shatters on the hood of the car behind him]
Dare I ask to whom he is listening? His bowl of Rice Krispies, perhaps?
And so does this.
Charming guy with guitar: I gave my love a cherry / That had no stone / I gave my love a chicken / That had no bones / I gave my love a story / That had no end / I gave my…
Bluto: [grabs the guitar and smashes it against the wall] Sorry.
So we’re already moving away from rationing healthcare to stay home and think about it care.
ObamaCare = HellCare
Words fail me. Meditate on this, dimwit: because of your mishandling of the finances of this country, my grandchildren’s children will still be paying for your mistakes. That’s about as clear as I can make it. THAT’s what’s really going on, but you can’t seem to see it.
Sticking one’s head in the sand works well too.
There are consequences to elections. A major one being we are now governed by ignoramuses.
The mind-less talking about mindfulness – now that’s just twisted.

“Calling Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard…”…
which tells me that his meditation is an abject failure…
Obamatown serving up more koolaid:
Well take yer Jai Guru Deva and stick it where you inhale yer OMs.
I have had some success with various Eastern medicines and practices. HOWEVER…enough with the #$^* legislation! How does this fool meditate with “stones” that big??!?! Don’t they get in the way?
I can find the answers on my own. I don’t need some putz in the capital telling me what’s what!
(If I could get James Morrison to teach me yoga, I would definitely be more relaxed. *swoon*)
The daily stretches were part of 1984, no?
One more step toward melding government into
thea religion.Dude, he’s a libdem… he has no stones.
NO STONES!
Everybody here is being to negative. We should all be looking into natural healing methods such as aroma therapy, acupuncture, herbal medicines, pyramid power etc…. That is all that will be available to the common folk after ObamaCare passes. Best to beat the rush start looking for your preferred treatments now.
I still sit Indian style.
Oprah is controlling the DNC.
Her mumbo jumbo garbage, and selecting the president.
Auto-abortion & euthanasia soon to be added as well.
If only American voters had been as mindful during the primaries of the last presidential election.
I pondred the same thing…
[Handed his first joint]
Pinto: I won’t go schizo, will I?
Jennings: It’s a distinct possibility.
Uh huh. Just when you think the liberals have reached a new height of lunacy, they surpass it.
That is obviously untrue. If this guy were really “seeing through the clutter” and able to “penetrate to what’s really going on” he’d be a conservative.
Just hum the following.
OOOBBBAAAMMMAAA IISSS GGRREEEAAATTT!!!
And you will be healed by our god, obama.
sonofdy, high priest and witch doctor of the cult of obama the great.
The Natural Law party lives on!
Nice catch, RTater on the 1984 routine.
All the political (or sports) commentary blasting back and forth online comes across as just so much Two Minutes Hate, whether liberal or conservative.
Everytime I think left can’t come up with something nuttier, they fool me and come up with something nuttier!
Speaker? Adolph Hitler.
Reiki, Reflexology, AcuMassage, Acupuncture and many other [Eastern] modalities. Holistic healing will be a welcome addition to your healthcare regimen, once you’re forced to drop your prescription medication(s), or have to wait six weeks to be managed by ObamaCare.
Babyboomers should be open to “experimentation” as that was once a lifestyle. There’s plenty of practitioners around, so again, beat the rush.
Actually, there is a program called CrystalStairs that DOES pay daycare providers to serve “balanced” meals to children. It was a great program and subsidized the food program for my home daycare. Plus, a nutritionist came to the house every three months to observe the menu and kids eating. She also brought by Dept of Ag type printouts of suggested kid-friendly recipes and gave me suggestions for kids that didn’t particularly care for veggies. They also stressed non-meat alternatives and small serving sizes because of the obesity problem in America. This, BTW, was in the mid-1980′s. And then there was the networking they assisted in setting up so that the actual providers got together for play dates and idea swapping.
That, IMNSHO, for people who provided day care in their home, was money well spent. There are alot of people in this country are nutritional MORONS and believe that taking pills, i.e. vitamins, is healthier than actually eating a balanced meal. Then there are those that believe that boxed foods and microwaved foods are actually nutritionally sound. (READ THE LABEL OF some “Healthy Choice” or “Lean Cuisine” meals BEFORE COMMENTING, PLEASE.)
I met Ryan once. He seemed a normal guy who ran as a Dem because it’s the only way to get elected in his district.
After reading this, I fully admit to having misjudged him. What a Fool.
This is what you get under government medicine.. What costs less, medical treatment or meditation? Guess what the civil servant doctor proscribe?
I took a Transcendental Meditation class in the 60s with a high school friend. I stopped after a couple weeks because, like Winston Smith in the novel 1984, I realized I was emptying my mind with the mantra, instead of confronting the stressors in my life. My meditation instructor gave me the mantra in secret and told me never to reveal it because it would lose its (magical) power. My mantra was “ing.” Repeat “iiiiinnnnnnnggggggggg,” with your eyes closed, about one thousand times, in the silence of a room in your home for about two weeks — if you do not realize that you’ll go insane doing this, its too late, you’re nuts already. Yet, some prominent lefties of the 60s are now pushing it on children, big time. Meditation and marijuana—it’s all they need.
For now. However, TEH ONE must not have competition for his OBAMACARE. All such practitioners will be assimilated into The Collective, i.e. TEH ONEs system. Resistance will be futile.
I have gone without medical insurance for many years. There are free programs for people who cannot afford medical care. And alternative methods do work in some cases. Pain management is more effective with meditation, hypnosis and acupuncture. Nutritional supplementation is a great ADJUNCT to traditional medical treatment. ALL of them are expensive.
You just have to be destitute, have a ton of time on your hands or be an illegal alien for the “free” or “low cost” care.
Lots of folks in America may end up as (a) or (b) soon. I predict….oooommmmmm….unemployment reaches 15% before we get rid of The One. And UNDERemployment will reach 50%. (Current estimates are 9.2% and ~15% at this time. Except in Central Cal, where some cities have 20+%/30+% already…)
I am sure lgm, IHateMyCountry and SwallowPoops, as supreme Kapos, will be tthrilled as he gets to whip all us lettuce pickers and streetcleaners with 30-40 years of Business, Computer Programming and Engineering experience with their new O-Whips. Make them feel like the BMOCs.
Sondy will be “lucky” to be in some other fascist country when that happens. “Course, could happen that he will bring a bunch of troops home with him and kick kapo a@@.
The new thing is Doctors Not taking insurance.
Other than telling you to destroy American health care, what else are those voices in your head saying?
I wonder if he has learned how to levitate yet,ala the goof who wrote the book about men being from Mars.I don’t remember the guy’s name, but if anyone can find his name and Google it,the video is probably out there. It’s hilarious.
the Obamanation that causes desolation of our economy and way of life
I went to a bill debate in the House of Representatives, and a group therapy session broke out.
Indeed. And the party that has always championed eliminating the God of the Bible from everything now suggests that we meditate to the “hum-god”. Is Howard Dean behind any of this?
Do we play the Islamic “call to prayers” before we meditate?
If either of them was hooked to an EEG, would any activity be detected?
…my God (yes…I mean OMG!!!)! What’s next? How about a simple IQ test, not only to qualify voters, but to assure simple intelligence of those running for elected office? Jeez!
yea I’ll remember to meditate when I wake up with back, shoulder, and knee pain…will have to keep the hums to a minimum so I don’t wake the wife….
We now know why Rep. Ryan and most of the rest of Congress has not read any of the legislation they have voted on.
Perhaps if Obama would shut up we would all feel better. No meditation necessary!
By the way I am currently living in Italy. I recently discovered how bad socialized medicine is, 3 month wait for CT or MRI, 3 month wait to see any specialist. 2 month wait for a 24 hour blood pressure test, then another month wait for the results. Limited medications, especially if they are made outside Italy. In pain? Good luck with that. I made several trips to the hospital because they can’t give pain medication that works to take home. Doses in the hospital are much lower, morphine, normally works wonders, in italy I thought it was saline. No effect at all. If you are dying from cancer(after waiting 3 months to see the oncologist) you can have narcotics.
I brought several large bottles of Advil from the US because it works better than anything my GP will give me and is REALLY EXPENSIVE here(????).
However, if you are smart, you have insurance in addition to the socialized program. Then you can enter the private medical system and wait 3 days for a MRI or CT, to see a specialist.
Unfortunately even though I have insurance, I didn’t know the system and was really frustrated before I figured it out. Now, I pay to see whoever I want when I want without a referral and the insurance reimburses me. And you need a referral for everything with socialized medicine. Real PITA. I feel sorry for the retirees.
Oh, everyone says “free healthcare” but they don’t mention the outrageous income taxes, VAT on everything (you don’t see it) and gas that is 75%tax.
Every employee in the hospital that spoke English wanted to talk about how much better healthcare was in Italy compared to the US. They admitted the wait was longer, the standard of care was lower, expensive(after some discussion regarding taxes) but everyone had access to it! Well, everyone has access to healthcare in the US, hospitals don’t turn people away. States, Counties and Cities have social programs for the poor. Doctors will negotiate fees if you can’t afford them.
By the way Italy also regulates what people are paid. Each job classification has a salary range set by the government. However companies can play the additional benefit and bonus game so they can hire people from other countries.
Perhaps the big “O” should look at the problems these programs have already caused in other countries before he brings the US down to their level. I doubt he will, as he is omnipotent(in some peoples’ minds at least, but not really, arrogant is probably more accurate)
One more; I think it goes like this:
RICH WOMAN – “Young man, you act as if you have the sword of Damocles hanging over your head.”
MOE – “Lady, you must be psychic!”
Good appropriate movie quotes. The one that leapt to my mind:
Terence Mann: Oh, my God.
Ray Kinsella: What?
Terence Mann: You’re from the sixties.
Ray Kinsella: [bashfully] Well, yeah, actually…
Terence Mann: [spraying at Ray with a insecticide sprayer] Out! Back to the sixties! Back! There’s no place for you here in the future! Get back while you still can!
(Field of Dreams, 1989)
One would think that Malkin (being Asian) would have a deeper respect for Eastern health practices.
ahhhh… another Oprah convert… a proud moment for the evil one…
Meditation.
Won’t cure cancer. Won’t even cure a cut finger.
What will it do? Increase your load of alpha brain waves.
What do we use in waking life? BETA waves. Alpha waves are for sleep.
Useless, unless you are trying to get us to sleep through our slavery.
I’ll take prayer anyday.
I know my world would be a better place if my government stopped trying to imposed its will on me.
Same here… the hubby and I laughed out loud when our son came home from kindergarten talking about sitting down “criss-cross-applesauce-style” during story time!
Unbelievable!!
Do you think Michelle could give us some Kung Fu lessons, too…Grasshopper?
//////just in case
Has anyone ever established WHAT country it is that ILMC loves?
And it’s too bad, too, since no one commenting here seems to have any idea what meditation actually is or what it’s for.
a) Cuba
b) Venezuala
c) Iran
d) North Korea
e) Russia
f) Somlaia
g) Red China
h) All of the above
As best as I can tell it is an alternative to rational thought.
I’m going with d or h
Yeah, you all got me there.
It must be strange for you folks: never leaving Ohio, no traveling, not even trying to understand what different cultures have to offer.
Here’s one for ya – Laughing Yoga – I know, that’s the dumbest thing any of you have ever heard – while you people take your daily anti-depressant and sit in front of your tv.
Yep, you folks sure are smart.
Actually, this works and pooh-poohing it does not.
How about “flying yoga”? John Lennon briefly was fooled:
ILC, 75% of the people who live on either coast think Ohio, Iowa, and Idaho are the same place.
Anyone who lives in one of these states will confirm that.
Mostly Annoyed,
I feel your pain – in Holland it’s the same. the Government assigns you a GP – then you are farmed out to a specialist for anything that goes beyond a band aid. Over here, once you make a certain amount of money, you and your family can no longer use socialized medicine and private health insurance is regulated by Government and heavily taxed so it is prohibitively expensive. I know several people here who refuse to go for job advancement because they would loose too much money buying insurance.
My favorite was when my 5 year old got pneumonia – they didn’t want to give him antibiotics. They said they didn’t like to play games with the possible resistance issues and I demonstrated what the term “Ugly American” actually meant. You libs can go off and be embarrassed by my actions all you want. I don’t care because 20 minutes later, they produced antibiotics and a few hours after that, my son was well. The truth is, they refuse to give expensive drugs until the last minute hoping not to give them at all in a bid to save money.
Another personal favorite: You can buy Hash in any “coffeeshop” (they are everywhere) but you can’t buy cold medicine here. My elderly neighbors beg me to bring them Ben Gay and Alieve from the States when I go. That’s because American products work. The crap they sell here is designed to save the govt. money so it doesn’t work at all.
Who do the Libs think will do the research for new meds? Who will discover the next breakthrough cancer treatment? The Government? Not likely.
This is what we have to look forward to. Thanks a lot Commies.
Once again, ILMC proves that, for Libs, bigotry knows no bounds.
And thus the working slave class was born. Welcome to the coming USSA.
One would think that you, presumably being a U.S. citizen, would have a deeper respect for the U.S. and the most envied health care system in the world.
Ohio? Sorry, friend. I hail from deep blue Massachusetts. Kennedy country (ick!). And I bet I have more well stamped current and retired passports than you, and my experiences with said countries make me appreciate the U.S. more than anything else.
Given the state of the liberal networks, particularly those charged with “reporting” the news, I can agree that one would require mega doses of anti depressants.
While being humorous, Limbaugh is right on the mark when he calls the networks “state media” outlets.
Oh, now I get it… David Carredine was practicing a form of transcendental meditation…
Shaolin Priest: “…When you learn to tie the knots, grasshopper…”
No No NO. Transcendental meditation has an element of occultism in it (I don’t care if heads explode at that comment; it’s true), so it is not a good idea to encourage everyone to do it. That may be a new idea to some, but I didn’t know about it, previously either. Now I do; and so do those reading this.
Good point.
