Miranda rights for terrorists: Next, toothbrushes and teddy bears!

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 11, 2009 11:04 AM

Steve Hayes has the scoop on how “the Obama Justice Department has quietly ordered FBI agents to read Miranda rights to high value detainees captured and held at U.S. detention facilities in Afghanistan,” according to GOP Representative Mike Rogers, “who recently met with military, intelligence and law enforcement officials on a fact-finding trip to Afghanistan.”

Andy McCarthy says “I told you so.”

Our brilliant friends at The People’s Cube weigh in here and here with a photoshop that is worth thousands of words on the surreal, new world for jihadists. First, Miranda rights. Next, toothbrushes and teddy bears! Meanwhile, al Qaeda snickers:

And as far as a few mamby pamby hand wringing posts about the use of that photo, I say screw it! We don’t see that photo enough! It is hallowed! That photo should be front and center everyday until everybody finally gets what the real fight is about! Don’t like to see that photo? Tough noogies!

Rogue_Cheddar is absolutely CORRECT!!! That photo should be shown every single day on the evening news, along with the film footage of those people leaping to their deaths from near the top of the Towers —- those people who say not to show it are part of the problem, not the solution. This is what we are up against people! Hiding your head in the sand will NOT make it go away!!!!

Great. So jihadi’s will now be getting complete legal rights within our judicial system…which suggests they could easily be released on a technicality after killing one of our soldiers.

Meanwhile, our soldiers get the privilege of having their legal rights ignored and being publicly railroaded by a$$holes like Murtha.

Yes. I would question their patriotism, if they exhibited any.

I think the opposite. They yearn for our freedoms (well, most of them). The more they know about American justice, they more they will want to imitate it.

Yeah I can see it now. Right before the stoning of a woman who was raped, or the beheading of someone…I’m sure they will get a fair trial, proper attorney, appeal rights etc.

We didn’t get to be the strongest nation on earth by imitating our enemies. We treated Japanese POWs in WWII better than they treated ours. That made our cause better than theirs.

There is a growing reaction in Muslim countries to honor killings and the like. It’s one of the many things that is making the Taliban unpopular. It wasn’t too long ago in the US that catching your wife in bed with another man was an excuse for murder.

I believe our cause was already better than theirs, irrespective of how we treated the Japanes POWs. But hey, your mileage may vary.

You say that like it was a bad thing.

True – we got there by defeating them!

BTW, I thought liberals were against building an “American Empire?” Isn’t extending US constitutional-/Miranda rights to illegals and detainees the same as the US declaring world dominance, a sort of modern day Pax Romana?

Well, David Petraeus is ok with this.

    From Fox News:

Gen. David Petraeus, head of Central Command, said Thursday that FBI agents, not members of the U.S. military, have read rights to detainees in only a “very limited number of cases” and that the practice had been used in other countries previously.

“This is the FBI doing what the FBI does,” Petraeus said. “So we are comfortable with this.”

Of course, the Republicans quoted in the Fox News story are misinformed/lying about soldiers being asked to read Miranda rights and the Fox story starts to take on a life of it’s own, debating a policy that isn’t in existence. (Soldiers reading Miranda rights.)

    Michelle,

The image on the post is in very, very poor taste ( a la Letterman) and is worthy of a retraction and apology on your part.

Using the final moments of live for the poor souls on board of that aircraft to make a point is just plain wrong
