Miranda rights for terrorists: Next, toothbrushes and teddy bears!

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 11, 2009 11:04 AM

Steve Hayes has the scoop on how “the Obama Justice Department has quietly ordered FBI agents to read Miranda rights to high value detainees captured and held at U.S. detention facilities in Afghanistan,” according to GOP Representative Mike Rogers, “who recently met with military, intelligence and law enforcement officials on a fact-finding trip to Afghanistan.”

Andy McCarthy says “I told you so.”

Our brilliant friends at The People’s Cube weigh in here and here with a photoshop that is worth thousands of words on the surreal, new world for jihadists. First, Miranda rights. Next, toothbrushes and teddy bears! Meanwhile, al Qaeda snickers:

So do you think they will read you your rights before they slice your head off?

You are truly breathtakingly clueless. The “faithful” Islamist is not interested in anything but their own religious definition of justice. For one such as yourself, to think otherwise, even in the face of all the evidence contradicting your position, is beyond ignorant. For an Islamist, it would mean certain death at the hands of the really “true believers.”

You (lgm) and the Islamic faithful do have something in common, however; both see America as an evil place, and neither is willing (nor compelled) to consider the beliefs/opinions of those who do not agree. To do so would corrupt their respective belief systems by which they live their lives.

Liberal progressivism, I believe, is closely related to the ideals preached, practiced, and projected by democratic socio-fascism and Islamo-fascism.

Progressives, fascists, and Islamists believe in compliance through force or threat of force.

Conservatives want to be free from coercion, and to live life without tyranny, following simple rules that are the same for everyone.

To Regulus and Granite, if I came across a little too frosty in my previous post, I apologize. When it comes to discussions about the murderous attacks on 9/11, I don’t know, something inside me just gets real agitated, and “Moe! Larry! The cheese!” just doesn’t quite fix it for me. I guess a lot of it has to do with my frustration with this Country’s response to those attacks. While I’m glad about the toppling of Saddam Hussein, the real culprits are still at large, and we still kowtow way too much to Saudi Arabia and others in that region. Again, I’m sorry for any denigrating remarks lumping you into a category better reserved for the likes of lgm and RSS.

Perhaps, perhaps not. It is, though, a rather spectacular demonstration of the softness of the current administration (something that will really embolden Islamofascists), and summarily reconstructs the “American paper tiger” that OBL once called us (pre-Bush).

As for fascism, a system of government where all aspects of society are controlled by the state and all criticism or opposition is suppressed, well, Obama is well on his way towards that definition.

And as far as a few mamby pamby hand wringing posts about the use of that photo, I say screw it! We don’t see that photo enough! It is hallowed! That photo should be front and center everyday until everybody finally gets what the real fight is about! Don’t like to see that photo? Tough noogies!

Rogue_Cheddar is absolutely CORRECT!!! That photo should be shown every single day on the evening news, along with the film footage of those people leaping to their deaths from near the top of the Towers —- those people who say not to show it are part of the problem, not the solution. This is what we are up against people! Hiding your head in the sand will NOT make it go away!!!!

Great. So jihadi’s will now be getting complete legal rights within our judicial system…which suggests they could easily be released on a technicality after killing one of our soldiers.

Meanwhile, our soldiers get the privilege of having their legal rights ignored and being publicly railroaded by a$$holes like Murtha.

Yes. I would question their patriotism, if they exhibited any.

Yeah I can see it now. Right before the stoning of a woman who was raped, or the beheading of someone…I’m sure they will get a fair trial, proper attorney, appeal rights etc.

We didn’t get to be the strongest nation on earth by imitating our enemies. We treated Japanese POWs in WWII better than they treated ours. That made our cause better than theirs.

There is a growing reaction in Muslim countries to honor killings and the like. It’s one of the many things that is making the Taliban unpopular. It wasn’t too long ago in the US that catching your wife in bed with another man was an excuse for murder.

I believe our cause was already better than theirs, irrespective of how we treated the Japanes POWs. But hey, your mileage may vary.

True – we got there by defeating them!

BTW, I thought liberals were against building an “American Empire?” Isn’t extending US constitutional-/Miranda rights to illegals and detainees the same as the US declaring world dominance, a sort of modern day Pax Romana?

Well, David Petraeus is ok with this.

    From Fox News:

Gen. David Petraeus, head of Central Command, said Thursday that FBI agents, not members of the U.S. military, have read rights to detainees in only a “very limited number of cases” and that the practice had been used in other countries previously.

“This is the FBI doing what the FBI does,” Petraeus said. “So we are comfortable with this.”

Of course, the Republicans quoted in the Fox News story are misinformed/lying about soldiers being asked to read Miranda rights and the Fox story starts to take on a life of it’s own, debating a policy that isn’t in existence. (Soldiers reading Miranda rights.)
