Well, David Petraeus is ok with this. From Fox News:

Gen. David Petraeus, head of Central Command, said Thursday that FBI agents, not members of the U.S. military, have read rights to detainees in only a "very limited number of cases" and that the practice had been used in other countries previously. "This is the FBI doing what the FBI does," Petraeus said. "So we are comfortable with this."

Of course, the Republicans quoted in the Fox News story are misinformed/lying about soldiers being asked to read Miranda rights and the Fox story starts to take on a life of it's own, debating a policy that isn't in existence. (Soldiers reading Miranda rights.)

BTW, I thought liberals were against building an “American Empire?” Isn’t extending US constitutional-/Miranda rights to illegals and detainees the same as the US declaring world dominance, a sort of modern day Pax Romana?

There is a growing reaction in Muslim countries to honor killings and the like. It’s one of the many things that is making the Taliban unpopular. It wasn’t too long ago in the US that catching your wife in bed with another man was an excuse for murder.
