Winds of change: The uprising in Iran
Here’s video of the riots and police beatings in the streets of Iran as citizens bravely stood up to protest election fraud by the mullah-cracy:
There will be public protests in Toronto and Berlin in solidarity with the reformists.
Latest from the wires on the winds of change:
The brazen and angry confrontations — including stunning scenes of masked rioters tangling with black-clad police — pushed the self-styled reformist movement closer to a possible moment of truth: Whether to continue defying Iran’s powerful security forces or, as they often have before, retreat into quiet dismay and frustration over losing more ground to the Islamic establishment.
But for at least one day, the tone and tactics were more combative than at any time since authorities put down student-led protests in 1999. Young men hurled stones and bottles at anti-riot units and mocked Ahmadinejad as an illegitimate leader. The reformists’ new hero, Mir Hossein Mousavi, declared himself the true winner of Friday’s presidential race and urged backers to resist a government based on “lies and dictatorship.”
Authorities, too, pushed back with ominous measures apparently seeking to undercut liberal voices: jamming text messages, blocking pro-Mousavi Web sites and Facebook and cutting off mobile phones in Tehran.

.
les,
If the government ever tries seriously to shut down political dissent in this country — as Pelosi and others have advocated and as is the subtext under all the biased reporting of the Holocaust Museum shooting — there will be so many fierce patriots taking direct action that my own part in it will be unimportant. (But I will be there, at whatever cost, doing what needs to be done.)
Of course, if you fascists back off your dream of government enforced politically correct speech, why none of this needs to come to pass anyway.
Coming soon to US streets…now I go back to read what my pals have said!

Again IR, you say “But I will be there, at whatever cost, doing what needs to be done.” Sounds to me that you’re threatening physical violence against someone. Come on man, stop the bravado insinuations, what are you afraid of? So I ask again, what are these brave acts of yours, and I’d add, against whom are you going to do “what needs to be done”?
The most hilarious part of our exchange is that you don’t see how precisely you fit the kind of nut job that Rich writes about in his column. Did he interview you over a Lucky Dog and Hurricane at Pat O’s? He’s got you pegged right down to the “fascists” comment.
“That is our difference, jsmiddleton04: You are concerned with perception”
Actually one of the biggest differences between us Ig… is I’m not the kind of guy who would suppose to make a judgement of that nature concerning what I am and am not concerned with based on posting in this forum.
Labeling folks on the left as un-American is absurd, unproductive and hurtful to getting the message of conservatism “out there”. If the best you can do to defend your political point of view is to label the opposition as un-American, do us all a favor and keep your opinions to yourself. The un-American thing hurts our efforts.
Oh yea, les, why am I not surprised that you are a big fan of Frank Rich?
I used to read Frank Rich — back in the day — I read the whole range of opinion. But I will tell you when I decided that it was more than I could possibly stomach:
During the run-up to the 1996 presidential election, Bob Dole weighed into the Murphy-Brown-is-having-a-baby controversy to take a shot at Hollywood for the values that it promotes in its product, a point of view shared by many conservatives and even Tipper Gore.
Frank Rich responded that it was anti-Semitism to criticized Hollywood. That fat Leftie queer called American war hero Bob Dole an anti-Semite for making a remark critical of Hollywood.
And you think it hurts me to hear your report that Rich is now bashing a stereotype of dangerous rightwing extremists that you suppose would include me? I’d wear it as a badge or pride if I thought that Frank Rich was sneering with contempt at me. I sure sneer with contempt at his rubbish.
But I can see why you’d like him.
My judgment on you, jsmiddleton04, was specifically directed at a direct quote of yours, which I included in my post.
You want to post your rubbish but you can’t handle it when somebody calls you out on it? Sad.
Look, you and les are beginning to bore me like a couple of gnats. Say whatever else you want, but I don’t think I can be bothered with it anymore tonight. Catch you some other time.
Why don’t you and les chat among yourselves?
Looks like Ima Dinnerjacket took a page from BHusseinO’s playbook
What toppled the Shah was the liberal Amercan press, European pressure and Carter doing everything he could to make nice to the Ayatollah.
You will not see any of that. This guy is a muslim fanatic, which means the Left will give him a pass. Freedom loses in Iran…….. for now.
Tiananmen Square redux coming soon.
Did we really expect a democratic election in this backwards Nation?
I consider anyone who does not uphold the Constitution and who wants to subvert, change, or destroy it, un-American.
Guess what middleton? There are a lot of those types of people here in the States.
They have no qualms about violently protesting. Of spreading lies and ridicule of their fellow Americans via the media.
It may be politically correct to say the path to change is solely through the election ballot, but those of us who will not surrender our sovereignty and freedom will do whatever it takes to preserve those things.
The libs have been at war with our culture for decades. We haven’t taken seriously the threat they pose.
After last year, enough American now understand just how aggressive the enemies of our nation are.
That is utterly laughable. Any credibility may have had with me is lost in that ridiculous reply. There is a difference between being a knee-jerk partisan and a citizen, and as far as I can see, your common Obama follower is nothing more than a mere partisan who wouldn’t know what being an American is from being a groundhog. They do not have the slightest idea of what a government that protects freedoms and liberty is. All they know is that government is supposed to give them something and keep them safe from the big bad wolf.
Also, I have no faith in a Republican party that tries to be Democrat-light. All they’re doing is keeping us on the same road as the Democrats, but they simply let off the gas pedal a bit. We’re headed toward the abyss, and neither party wants to head into another direction.
And we Americans sit on our butts while our freedom slips away chucks at a time.
The Iranians are doing what we should be doing.
But noooooooooooooooooooooo, we are comfortable losing our country.
SICKENING.
Ooooh, careful there Roger! You’ll cause Mr. Middleton to mark you as a “lunatic.”
I am dazzled by the courage of the young men, boldly showing their faces, shouting for freedom. Totally unlike the always-masked jihadists, shouting for death. Wow
No surprise here. This is the way of Islam. Like Hussein against his minority countrymen, Ahmadinejad will squash them with the savagery of Tiananmen Square. What will be new, though, is when the way of Islam reaches the shores of America.
Would you care to expound on this a little?
That same warrantless wiretapping and surveillance is still going on under Obama. Are you condemning him or comparing his administration to the Stasi?
You don’t have to answer my question. Just slither back under the rock you’ve been hiding under these past few months.
So what do you say, les? Care to answer my question or do you have some sort of a fixation on Ignatius?
Is this hate speech or treason?

It seems strange for NYK to point those out as offensive, after Obama signed on to continue with both pratices.
