To be sure, Sgt. I know he was in Iraq, and anybody there was in harm’s way. I lost a family member who was a building contractor to a mortar attack.

No intent on my part to demean the man whatsoever. I honor JAG types, cooks, whoever wears the uniform and defends the flag. Each of them can be called to fight the line in the right circumstances.

My point was only that we needn’t inflate his resume’. He might have been a combat soldier at one time, but I just dunno.

Ragspierre – I am sorry for your loss and I know you were not trying to demean the General. A short lesson in military courtesy. In the Army there are only seven ways to address the person to whom you are speaking: Private, Specialist, Corporal, Sergeant, First Sergeant, Sergeant Major, Sir/Ma’am. Now, if I were talking about him I would say “General Walsh” or “the General” depending on who I was talking to. And since you were not familiar with that and since you don’t know me – I am going to let slide that you called me “sergeant” instead of “sergeant major”. (The military types on here will understand). lol

Well, hell, Sargent Major, you can call me CWO Ragspierre. It has been pretty nearly 40 years, so you will, perhaps, understand I’m a little rusty.

    Thank you for your service.

And thank you for your service sir.
Between you and me I would give a month’s pay to know what the General was really thinking when she made her comment. lol

It might have peeled the wall-paper off the walls…

Several her staff members would certainly have got the vapors. And they would have been the males.

Good commentary. I have my own choice words to address Boxer with. These people reek of elitism. How dare she. How dare she. What a classless little imp she is.

The word denoting respect, “Ma’am”, is very close to the word for a whore and it is understandable why Babo does not wish to be refered as to the Political Madam she is.

To paraphrase: a soldier addresses a superior with “sir” or “Ma’am”, but he addresses a subordinate by rank or title. So, when Sen. Boxer asked the General to address her by her title, she was asking him to treat her as a subordinate. That seems appropriate.
