Bastard

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 24, 2009 02:54 PM

It’s the only fitting word for a man who abandons his wife and four sons on Father’s Day weekend to indulge his “overdrive” on an Argentinian fling.

Mark Sanford: Bastard.

***

If you missed Sanford’s rambling, surreal disaster of a press conference, consider yourself lucky.

He had a hell of a lot more passion and pathos for his mistress than his own wife. He referred wistfully to the “great friendship” and “that sparking thing” he had with the mistress for eight years — during which his wife was raising his four children.

No excuses.

No “but, but, look at all the dirty Democrats.”

This is a disgrace. I called Michelle Obama what she is earlier this week. I call Mark Sanford what he is now.

He called himself “selfish” at the press conference. That’s the least of it.

***

If you can’t honor your marriage vows, how can you expect voters to trust you to honor your damned oath of office?

***

Philip Klein:

It’s absolutely disgraceful not only that he had an affair, not only that he lied about it publicly, but that he put his staff in a position to lie about it. And anybody who has followed Sanford was given the impression that he was a family man. Always close to his sons, so tight with his wife that she managed every one of his campaigns and even served temporarily as his chief of staff while he was governor. And yet he abandons them on Father’s Day weekend to fly off to Argentinia to see his mistress, and now forces them to live through all this emotional pain in the media spotlight.

***

A reminder about what I said regarding stupid, selfish John Ensign: here and here.

Cheating is wrong, always. But since Dems do it and get elected all the time, that is probably not the swing issue (pardon the pun). These trysts lead to our undoing, yes, but not because it is frowned upon by the voters (unfortunately); it’s because the Dems call it out as hypocrisy which, to the Democrat (big ol’ hypocrites themselves), is worse than being a mass murderer. They can kill millions of unborn babies, oppress women with their liberal progressive causes, throw people out of work to save the sacred spotted owl, work to free Mumia, celebrate hedonism and ruinous illicit behavior of all kinds, but hey…do something that is “hypocritical”? You must be destroyed at all cost.

The GOP ideology is a disaster.

    Gosh…

I guess we should all become like collectivists, with the morals of an ally cat.

Cheat, lie, steal, destroy liberty, kill babies…

    repeat as desired.

This crap of resigning only his leadership posts is just that…CRAP!

It means that his affair leaves him unsuitable to lead republican governors. But he is perfectly OK for the people of South Carolina.

    Makes Sense ? Not …

Can’t say this surprises me, and that’s sad, but I think a lot of people were putting Sanford up on such a pedestal that he may have been to ripe a target to not fall for something like this. Oh well.

Serious question: what exactly is it about cheating on a man’s wife that disqualifies him from governing?

If Steve Jobs got caught with his pants down, would you think he should resign from Apple? If not, what’s the difference?

As things now stand in our nation, we have a political class largely composed of narcissists. The reality of running for public office is almost a filter that screens out normal people.

When we find one, it is like a breath of fresh air. This is, from my point of view, one of the things that I like most about Mrs. Palin.

RSS…As many on this thread have mentioned…it isn’t just the affair. It is the timing of it on Father’s Day when he has four children. It is the fact that he didn’t think it important to tell anyone he was just going to disappear for 5 days. It is his lack of good sense and judgement. Seems you are suffering from some of that yourself.

I just listened to his press conference and it was sickening. He is reveling in all the attention. Please change the headline to SICK BASTARD. This guy is almost as full of himself as Dear Leader.
Sean Hannity is of course sticking up for him on his radio show which only emboldens retards like this guy. Can we not find one honest man to be a leader?

It has always been like that. Some politicians are just good/lucky and keep their dirty laundry hidden.

Which is a very liberal mindset. No big deal.

    Clue:

Both involve vows. If you cannot keep your vow to your wife, what the hell good is your word/vow to the people your represent?

The CEO of a corporation makes no vow to the end-user now does he?

As in every other case, it indicates a lack of judgement, common sense, and fidelity to principle. And as with every other case but Clinton, (including Kennedy), the result will be at least to exclude him from further consideration for the presidency.

I would not condone such an act but I would caution against throwing Sanford and others like him under the bus. You are falling into a trap to weaken those who are fighting for liberty at home against those who do not hold themselves to any standards. Hitler and Stalin were not hypocrites BTW.

As for adultery, I have seen at least two surveys that show that rates for men and women are equal. I have seen plenty of examples in my personal life of wives cheating on husbands. Remember that in the old days, women stayed faithful because they were economically dependent, and because the morals were stricter at the time. Now that women work, and because the moral hazard of no-fault divorce laws often make it profitable for a women to divorce even if she is at fault, men have to think twice before getting hitched, with or without a pre-nup.
