Bastard

It’s the only fitting word for a man who abandons his wife and four sons on Father’s Day weekend to indulge his “overdrive” on an Argentinian fling.
Mark Sanford: Bastard.
***
If you missed Sanford’s rambling, surreal disaster of a press conference, consider yourself lucky.
He had a hell of a lot more passion and pathos for his mistress than his own wife. He referred wistfully to the “great friendship” and “that sparking thing” he had with the mistress for eight years — during which his wife was raising his four children.
No excuses.
No “but, but, look at all the dirty Democrats.”
This is a disgrace. I called Michelle Obama what she is earlier this week. I call Mark Sanford what he is now.
He called himself “selfish” at the press conference. That’s the least of it.
***
If you can’t honor your marriage vows, how can you expect voters to trust you to honor your damned oath of office?
***
It’s absolutely disgraceful not only that he had an affair, not only that he lied about it publicly, but that he put his staff in a position to lie about it. And anybody who has followed Sanford was given the impression that he was a family man. Always close to his sons, so tight with his wife that she managed every one of his campaigns and even served temporarily as his chief of staff while he was governor. And yet he abandons them on Father’s Day weekend to fly off to Argentinia to see his mistress, and now forces them to live through all this emotional pain in the media spotlight.
***
A reminder about what I said regarding stupid, selfish John Ensign: here and here.

This is called “Eliminate the competition”. Memo to Republicans: Behave yourselves!
If you would, please present your arguments to my #195.
Don’t bet on it. The values that make this state the conservative stonghold it is will not be derailed by the loss of any one man.
Hmmmmm. Good point. I wonder how many other republican “up-and-comers” are shaking in their boots right now for perhaps some less-than-honest behavior?
I Agree whole heartedly. And this page has a great reply to this whole situation as well.
That is what it’s all about: Trust.
Mark Sanford may receive forgiveness from some (and not from others), but what he will not regain is people’s trust.
Too bad a genuine conservative takes himself out for a little nookie. Of course Kennedy can kill a woman and spend his life in the Senate, but that’s just part of the double standard. Only liberals look the other way when one of their own is a criminal or unfaithful. Sanford is officially toast! That’s just the way it is.
NJRepublican said: “Why’d he have to end up being a douchebag?!?!”
As a former Jersey Boy, I just gotta wonder how you could not possibly know that douchebaggery is practically genetically encoded in many politicians on both sides
1. “Stop regarding man, whose breath of life is in his nostrils; For why should he be esteemed?” Isaiah 2:22
2. For those who wish to say, “well, look at so-and-so Democrat…” I quote Hebrew National: “We Answer to a Higher Authority.”
You’re looking at this all wrong bud. We conservatives ARE different and we demand anyone who wants our votes to respect our values. If they expect to be instantly forgiven for being exposed as slimy weasels, they should go elsewhere. If we weasels to represent us, then WE are the hypocrites.
We don’t have to surrender to corruption and cynicism. That is for Democrats and Republicans, the all-inclusive “big tent” parties who stand for nothing. We are conservatives. We ARE different. We actually stand for something. That is our appeal that explains why there are so many of us.
Rooting out weasels is a virtue, not a vice. It may not be politically expedient but like they say, “virtue is its own reward”. It is what make us strong.
Correction:
If we ALLOW weasels to represent us, then WE are the hypocrites.
To hell with the GOP.
Term limits lead to better government.
And how, exactly is the GOP as the entire organization to blame for this man’s actions? (Or whatever it is that the need to be sent to hell for)
I read Drew Pinsky’s “The Mirror Effect” recently and the sort of narcissism that leads one into a life of politics/show biz is often the same sort of narcissism that leads one to have extramarital affairs.
This isn’t to excuse Sanford’s behavior, however. He should have known better. If nothing else, all he had to do was look at John Edwards. It would have been a DISASTER if Sanford had emerged as a frontrunner in 2012. Every Republican must realize that while he doesn’t have to be a saint, he has to be better than good because like it or not the standards are different.
For 8 years they tempted Sanford with this chick ? Are you sure ?
Right on. It looks like my estimation of Sanford was wrong as well…He deserves condemnation along with John Edwards for their travesty.
Bastard is too nice a word
Rag -
Crawl out from your warm, moist, dark place, swing from the string and read the quote yourself.
” . . . INHERENTLY deceitful . . .”
LOL.
You may not recognize the convention, but usings dots does acknowledge that it is an excerpt. Are you prepared to acknowledge, in agreement, with that fact? Thought so.
http://michellemalkin.com/2009/05/21/no-koh/
I will, however own up to the inaccurate attribution. It belongs to Andy McCarthy and not Michelle Malkin. Thank you for taking me to task and allowing me to make the correction. Yep, I own up when I make a mistake. Do you? Thought so.
And, yet you still do not rise up to the challenge to address my statements. Too far to reach from the depths of the cave, where the Rag visits monthly? Yeah, I get it, you are bloodied, but not bowed.
Be witty all you want, be it hot, bright, and rather dry. Sardonic even. I am not talking about where you live, or your wit. I am talking about your comments, opinions, and responses. When you throw out words without any arguement, any substantiation, no deconstruction, no line by line reasoning, you must be deep in the warm, dark, and moist place, comfortable and unwilling to engage.
Rag, you are bloodied, and OK not bowed, but use the string and try swinging out an answer. A response. A reasoned arguement. Uh, thought so.
Saying it again, “When you are ready to properly deconstruct anything I have posted, do so and I will respond, . . . line by line.”
I’m not tired of the double standard. Its one of the clearest ways one can tell the difference between the parties. I am glad to be in a party that does not tolerate the kind of bad judgment infidelity demonstrates.
Now to the governor’s explanation….
He went to Argentina to make things right? Say what? IF, and I mean IF, I ever had an affair and at some point I needed to make things right AND I went to the other woman, I’m pretty sure that would be a one way trip. As in if I was making things right who gives a rip what is “right” with the other woman. All of my “making it right” would need to be done with my wife.
That is if I was interested in my marriage, being responsible, attempting to repair the damage I had done.
Seems to me being concerned that he was making it right with the other woman just adds insult to injury!
I just love the idea that the left is using women as a weapon to bring down conservatives. I’m pretty sure men in power and women who love men in power need no help in finding trouble to get into.
Exactly! Woo Hoo!
We should not chum the waters with any speculation. For any person, for any reason. We should rely on facts. The facts based on what the person said and does, and most definitely not on what we think they may do.
Gov Sanford cheated. Period. Speculating as to whether it was a man, is wrong. Just plain wrong.
Speculating that a politician will take away every gun because that politician accepts that a particular municipality should be allowed to control gun ownership, is also wrong.
When anyone suggests what they think a person will do, that is speculation. One more time for the choir, speculation should be avoided.
Yep. Just like a real Shelob. Line by line. Toil by toil.
Thanks for the invite. Pass.
I got that you have some bad wiring, and that may not be your fault. The whoosing sound you hear is stuff going over your head.
BTW, I love it when opposing counsel ….takes…stuff….out…of…context….
I put it in context for the fact-finder, which shows them as the deceptive punks they are.
Under these circumstances I will NOT argue with MM! This man brings a bad name to all married republicans…the damage he does to ALL CONSERVATIVES will not be seen for the next several weeks when the Lame Stream Media will finally let it go.
Sexual infidelity is the most serious sin in the Bible.
The Marriage represents God’s union with His people, the body of Christ, and its special for that. You are committing an act against the Christ when you do such a thing. You whore God.
God’s mercy is available but it is a long hard struggle back to trust and love.
Sad. My God have mercy, in His chastisement.

OK Explain why Ensign, Craig and Vitter are still in senate ? There is not much difference between GOP and Democrats. Stop pretending that GOP is somehow holier. How can we fix the problems with GOP if we can not even acknowledge them.
Of course, like Henry David Thoreau, MOST of us have the ability to synthesize information; the famous “Trout in the milk” Thoreauism on circumstantial evidence sometimes being dispositive is a wonderful example.
There is a difference between rank speculation and an obvious conclusion, predicated on experience and the observable. See Ochem’s Razor.
To most of us….
Easy, make the GOP go the way of the Whigs and start a new party that has a litmus test. Best to weed out the Neocons, CINO’s and jellyfish early.
No idea what a Shelob is, no matter. (Not going to look it up.) But yes, as you will experience, I will be taking your comments line by line.
OK. I understand your fear and inability to reach out beyond the warm, moist, and dark place where you hide your thoughts and opinions. You are the Rag afterall. Just once, use the string and swing for an answer.
Can’t imagine what you are talking about because you have not given any specifics, though I have repeatedly asked. I have invited you to do so, but you have taken a pass. Uh, is it that time of the month Rag? So, the only whoosh I hear is your non-repsonse, non-answer, non-arguement, . . . nonsense.
Perfect example, what was taken out of context? Oops, sorry, that was a question that you will no doubt not answer. Yet, again another whoosh for me. LOL.
Then again it sounds more like you are changing the subject. No matter. Tangents are your thing.
OK, but when are you going to do it for me and my comments, opinions and statements, vice just throwing out single perjorative words?
See, line by line, addressing your statement. It is fairly easy if you have the courage.
But, then again Rag, I understand you are deeply set in your warm, moist and dark place, unable to swing from the string, to cowboy up and simply address questions and comments.
Just to clarify. I dont have problem with the adulterer politicians as long as they vote the right way. I would like to have saints in the public offices but that is not going to happen.
Craig is already a gonner. He has not registered for re-election.
As to the others, what would you like? Should they be knocked off by a majority of the Senate? There wouldn’t be ANY opposition to the majority then.
Should their caucus vote them out? That seems to deny democracy to their constituents, doesn’t it?
In Vitters case…and regardless of RSB’s disapprobation…the voters of LA elected him, and he remains pretty popular. People in LA are famously tolerant of low-level corruption, especially of the hanky-panky brand. He would not be my choice, but that is what makes diversity. Read some LA history.
Ensign may be toast. We’ll see…
Line by line, see? So, this 6′4″ Hobbit declines your invitation to dinner. No fear. Good sense. I have work to do, and you are not worth my time.
Clue: measure your posts, as compared to most of those here. They are long, weirdly tendentious, and not worth the investment of reading.
I brought out these examples in response to some post complaining about how Republican marital transgressions are treated much more harshly than Democrat ones.
You are confusing Republicans with conservatives. It is conservatives who are interchangeable with Democrats. The United Establishment Party is united in its determination to bring about a new age of “post-partisanship”. They are both at war with voters in general and conservatives specifically.
Feel free to attack Republicans and Democrats. But the majority of us who comment at this site are conservatives who couldn’t care less about Republicans.
Don’tcha just want to beat this guy’s ass for pulling yet another stunt that does absolutely nothing redeeming for his family, or the party that he supposedly represents?
Does not the family have enough challenges these days than for this to happen?
Does not the GOP have enough problems without yet another black eye from its leadership?
Don’tcha just want to beat this guy’s ass twice?
I do.
http://www.redstate.com/brianfaughnan/2009/06/24/rep-tim-bishop-d-ny-runs-from-constituents/
Off topic, but you gotta see this.
correction;
“It is
conservativesRepublicans who are interchangeable with Democrats.”It’s late and I’ve had a very long day.
Sums it up, perfectly.
Good night, and good luck.
I do not care what Democrats do-I don’t expect much of them in the first place. But I can not support a man who cheats on his wife. Others may and it is their right. But if a man can not keep a promise made before God, his family and to his wife what else will he lie about?
Governor Stanford needs to go away and make peace with his God, wife and sons. And yes jangar a good beating just might help.
Bad boy, bad boy!
Well I’m not surprised at all. After all he’s a Republican.
You still have to give Mark Sanford some credits. Unlike Silvio Berlusconi of Italy, he admitted he was cheating…
Still, that is going to hurt the GOP even more which is a good thing.
Time for SC to finally choose a true democrat governor unless it wants to remain a poor backward state.
Mmmm…I’d say members of the GOP are more often caught in gay sex scandals. But aside from that…
Here’s my question: for eight years, this man has been able to keep this secret from all who knew him, from his closest aids, friends, etc.? Please. Somebody knew, at some point in these last eight years, where he was going, what he was doing. You don’t just hop on a plane out of the country, come back, and no one ask the question, “hey man, how was your trip?”. At some point, someone may have been suspicious because his phone wouldn’t pick up for a couple days. Where was the friend to say, “hey guy, this isn’t a good idea.” “Mark, don’t even think about spending time alone with another woman, much less getting a plane to see one on another continent.” My point is this: Mark Sanford is a scumbag, but so are any and all of his worthless companions who knew what was happening and did or said nothing.
“He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.” Proverbs 13:20
LO Freakin’ L.
If my posts are not worth your time, then don’t comment on them. Stay in your warm, moist and dark place. Why do you comment on them then? You throw out perjoratives, yet offer no substance.
If my posts aren’t worth reading then why are you commenting on them? Oops, that was yet another question that you will not answer.
Then again you addressed Shelob, but nothing else. You did not address anything line by line. You addressed one line. A line that I noted I knew nothing about, and was unconcerned about so much that I said I was not going to look it up.
You being 6′4″ is another tangent, who cares? OH, and you are a hobbit, how wonderful for you.
Listen I am OK with you not commenting on my posts. But, should you get that wild hair up your butt, be substantive in your critique and not simply throw out your established silliness, one word perjoratives.
Comparing my posts to others is meaningless. Everyone has their own style, and that is what makes us a great country. Individuality and the ability o not walk in lock step. Do you agree? Darn it, I can’t help myself sometimes, and I continue to ask you questions that I know you will not answer.
Bottomline, if you aren’t reading my posts, don’t comment. When you challenge me, I will challenge you to come out of your warm, dark and moist place, you are the Rag afterall. I know it is a monthly thing for you, but cowboy up and present a real substantive critique. Forget the fictional characters . . . please.
And, don’t comment with excuses as to why you aren’t more fully commenting.
This is the only relevant question to ask concerning these bastards. Fair coverage, Michelle. This idiot should resign as governor and just go away.
I think when something so personal like this happens a lot of people inject their own experiences and feelings of guilt, anger and pain get in the mix probably a little more than they should.
Gov. Sanford has followed the Conservative roadmap as he and everyone well should, he’s not a good husband or father and he hasn’t followed through with the moral set he’s promoted for others to follow, these are not small things.
Its not that anyone or any party is fit to govern, no one and no party is fit to govern, only limited government and limited time in office, bound to the Constitution, makes a tolerable governance.
He does not measure up. He can resign tonight.
How would you even know what a “backward state” is? You’re too busy sucking on the gravy train of freebees you’ve been getting from France.
I’m not really surprised (I’ve seen your picture) at the naivete expressed in this remark. Do you really think that sex scandals, and gay ones at that, are limited to just the Republican party?
Also, to relish in the pain of someone’s family and perpetuate what’s in effect a one-party system these days is, frankly, twisted. That’s something perfected in your saintly kingdom of France. Not in the US.
You really need to grow up. For someone training to be a doctor you have a lot of time to a) blather on a blog, b) not get the whole picture, and c) show an astounding lack of empathy for Sanford’s family. When you stop being so stuck up on both yourself, your vanity, and your own failed politicians will be a day to treasure.
By the way, your saintly liberal state of CA is ranked pretty low in education. I guess all that spending really can’t make up for the inherent stupidity of a public education system you want for everybody else but yourself.
Yah, and they make me scroll too much. Dad-gummit Rags… everytime you respond to it, it posts another mile-long diatribe and it’s a bummer to have to scroll so much with nothing to gain for it.
PS – Give Z to her, she could do it… yes precious, she could… shhhhhh.
Michelle, thank you for this post. Thank you SO MUCH. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who felt this way. I am sick and tired of Republicans running around on their wives, getting found out, and then becoming heroes because they resign their public office, cry in front of the camera and admit how wrong they are. I’m fed up with all these losers! Get ‘em out of the party! A man who cheats on his wife isn’t a man. No wonder the Republicans are so moderate these days, if they’ll be disloyal to their wives, what possible loyalty could they have to the Constitution?
nyk,
Pour it on. The Republicans deserve it.
Amen, brother!
All lib trolls receive a pass for the next few days.
There is no condemnation too harsh for Republicans and what they represent to the USA.
Hey! I’ve got an idea: Let’s all kick Mark Sanford when he’s down — sort of like the Basiji do to the protesters in the streets of Teheran!
One doesn’t have to approve of, or excuse, what Sanford did to have a bit of compassion on him.
Sanford will pay the price: His career is ruined. Why do we need to pile on the man?
Instead of our getting all indignant, a preferred approach might be: “There, but for the GRACE OF GOD go I.”
Michelle, do you really need to call him a “bastard?” Sinner? Yes. Disgraced? Yes. Fallen into immorality? Yes. But, “BASTARD?”
7So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her (Gospel according to St. John, Chapter 8, KJV).
Finally, it needs to be said: Sanford’s sins do hardly undo his past courageous stands on the issues — courageous stands that many of his Republican colleagues were too cowardly to take.
Wow. I haven’t gotten a pep-rally email from Michael Steele about Gov Sanford (I say “Gov” loosely. The word governor means “controller:, but he can’t control himself, much less his state.) Come on Michael! I’m waiting for you to inspire me against the immoral, amoral Democrats.
You jerks are morally bankrupt. You have zero credibility. The GOP is a f***ing embarrassment. We’d better see you in sackcloth and ashes, or else you’ll be leftovers in dog dishes, you nothing crap opportunistic bastard idiots. You Godless heathen humanistic unprincipled snakes. Get a spine and stand for Truth. I want your next email to me to be fawningly apologetic. I want you to turn your belly up and wet yourself if I show you the least amount of attention, you dog. Michael Medved says that Republicans are the only “horse in this race” for Conservatives. Well, f*** that analysis. Republicans are thimbles with which we are to bail out the Titanic …and that’s being generous. You had better darn sure do something drastic if you care the least iota about what’s to become of this nation. You had darn sure better get real. The status quo ain’t gonna work no more!!!!! Got it? GOT IT???? Am I getting through???
I was thinking more along the lines of a shame gauntlet where we could give a swift kick to his ass as he stumbled by…
How DARE anyone be upset about this. After all, just 11 years ago we, the Conservatives, had it shoved down our throats night and day that, “It is just sex”, and “It is a private matter between this man and his wife and family”, and “Lying about an affair is A-OK. After all, you are SUPPOSED to lie about an affair”, and “Having an adulterous affair, especially one that takes place in a Government building, in a Government office, during regular working hours is nobody’s business, and does not mean that the person involved is any less capable of being the best damn public servant he can be…including conducting business on the phone WHILE the adulterous acts are taking place”, amongst other things.
See, I think this is nothing more than the work of a “Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy” who obviously set this man up. He was presented with some trollop who more than likely snapped her thong at him after delivering pizza to his office late at night and, he being just a man, had no control over her worldly charms and thus had no choice but to succumb to his primal urges.
He should NOT resign, but in fact, go off on a vacation with his wife, maybe dance together on the beach in their swimsuits and demonstrate that they are so much better than all the rest of us.
Man…for some reason, I feel so filthy and nauseated.
What the simple-minded Liberals fail to understand, ones like the amazingly immature, uninformed, poorly educated and unbelievable simple and childish Edelweiss, fails to comprehend, is that affairs, while done by members of BOTH parties, are most definitely looked at and handled FAR different by conservatives than Liberals.
Liberals tend to celebrate an affair, actually encouraging it. Why, just look at pretty much any Soap Opera or Prime Time Television show these days. Hell, just look at the show “Desperate housewives” where an affair on your husband is more than encouraged.
Conservatives do not claim to be perfect. We do not claim to be immune to the weaknesses and failings of the human experience. However, what we DO claim is to weed out those that are weak and who embarrass themselves and hurt those that are innocent..the other spouse and any children.
While you all defended Clinton and went on about it even to this day, and while you celebrate broken marriages and affairs, we do all we can to discourage them and expose them for the hellish nightmare they are for those involved, as well as punish those in our midst that do stray.
The fact that you cannot see the difference in itself is incredibly telling.
Yes, this guy is scum. Yes, he has hurt a good many people. Unlike the guy you all think was the best thing since Welfare, we will make sure that this toad’s political career is kaput…and then pray for his wife and children and…though he does not deserve it, pray also that his marriage can be saved and he can get whatever mental help he needs, for those that cannot stay faithful to their spouses most definitely have something wrong with their wiring.
Oh, and I thought a Shelob was a failed psychology professor from the Pacific NorthWest.
Sorry for the length Joy.
Hey, Ret and Joy…
I think Shelob in recent years headed a Woman’s Studies Program at a major ivy league school. Excellent fit. The recruiters were so pleased.
Anybody know where edelweiss did her undergrad? I’m almost certain she was a Shelob prodigy.
Something silly and immature.
Wish she’d stop popping her gum and checking her bust in the mirror, wondering if it’s big enough.
The question is…can she grow up?
Agreed.
See above.
Oh, God, no…!
Please say that ain’t so!
The word “bastard” is what pops into my head on reading most of the news anymore.
It’s always funny to me which threads the trolls choose to comment on and which ones they avoid.
Red State Update “Hiking The Appalachian Trail”
Adult Humor and Language, Warning: Don’t watch if you don’t have a sense of humor.
Ya know, that’s borderline homophobic, making a “gotcha” point out of someone’s sexual preference, but not at all surprising: metropolitan liberals like yourself are well known for their social hypocrisy.
On June 24th, 2009 at 10:38 pm, edelweiss said:
That would be half-way insulting – if it had come from someone whose opinion was actually valued.
Thanx Ed, for exposing your supreme ignorance and social bigotry! Oh, BTW, do you have enough General Mills Coffees on hand, in case “friends” fly in from Europe?
Add Stupid to Bastard. You would think that with Ensign’s example last week, he would have been smarter than to disappear on Father’s Day weekend. Did he think the media would ignore everything?
I’m sorry his family is going through this, but I’m glad the American people found out now, and not in a year or two when he’d be campaigning for president.
Another comment… what is it with politicians and infidelity? I work in IT, mostly with men, and almost all of them are good, married family men. Some are divorced and remarried, but I’ve never known anyone to have an affair.
Am I just not in the gossip circle or does the type of man who runs for office have an inherent weakness for affairs?
RetFireman #330: Excellent comments on this sad and sordid “affair”.
