Show time: Troopathon 2009 is here! Final total: $600,000-plus!

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 25, 2009 03:43 PM

So many of you helped raise more than $1 million last year for the first-ever web-a-thon for the troops.

Beginning at 4pm Eastern and running for eight straight hours, Troopathon 2009 will broadcast across the Internet. You can watch right here on Ustream as Melanie Morgan and Andrew Breitbart co-host the show and welcome dozens of folks from Hollywood, talk radio, the blogosphere, and the military support community. I’ll update this post and will call in to the show later tonight. Don’t miss a huge line-up. Pitch in, tune in, and support a great cause. Honor the troops and their service:

Live TV : Ustream

Update: $250,000-plus in the first two hours!

Update: Hot Air Steamers raise nearly $25,000 for Troopathon. Woo-hoo!

Update: Final total – more than $600,000! Thanks for your generosity.

I dedicated my troopathon battalion pkg to Fr. Tim Vakoc, Army chaplain who died on Sunday.

What happened? They refused to suppy Cheetos?

The Soap’s will kick the max or two in honor of lgm (knowing full well he will not support the troops).

Kind of hard to watch with all of the technical problems, glitches and awkward dead air.

I hope they get it sorted out.

Too bad this will have to compete with news about Farrah Fawcet & Michael Jackson…in some folks eyes “heroes”, when we should be concerned about the REAL Heroes!

Live stream is working well for me. I will kick in more this year than last. I’ve been collecting all the shampoo, conditioner, soap bars etc. from all the nice hotels I’ve stayed at the last several months and plan to make a care package of them to send to our beloved troops.

I emailed the info to our evening drivetime announcer J.D. Hayworth on 550 KFYI-AM in Phoenix. I’m hoping it gets a mention on his show which runs from 4-7 pm Pacific time.

I don’t have the pockets for it, but I think I’ll donate some to the (forgotten) Pedophilia foundations which don’t excuse warped behavior for keeping the entertainment trains running on time.

Oh man… it’s frozen. Is anyone else able to see right now? Thank goodness I got to hear the part with Ann Coulter, but immediately after that it froze.

    Just me or for everyone?

Can anyone explain HOW MANY packs of these things will be shipped off for each of the levels of donations? That will help me decide what to try to afford. Thanks.

Wow. I think considering the state of the economy, this years Troopathon did really well. I know everyone hoped to match last year, but a lot has changed since then and people don’t have as much money.

Michelle – Thank you! I’ve had a delightful day watching this and only missed a bit where it froze for some reason. I don’t know if the show froze or just my streaming. I was able to access other sites so I’m not sure what happened.

Our Military troops contribute something so profound to our lives. FREEDOM. Think of how many people have been born and died throughout history and somehow, for some reason, we are blessed to live in the greatest country that has EVER existed! And it exists ONLY because of the men and women who have fought and still fight for our freedom.

What a great cause these care packages are. I loved the quote, “A hug in a box.”

This makes me proud to be an American.
