9:36am: GOP Rep. Pete Sessions is on the House floor right now blasting Dems, who just moved to limit debate. It’s “unacceptable” and “undemocratic,” says Sessions. Proposals to protect farmers and agriculture won’t be considered. Sessions recounts meetings at 2am, being handed massive, new 300-page amendment. “No one has read this bill.”
“Why are we rushing to do this with a trillion dollar spending plan that will result in killing jobs and make it more difficult for us to come out of recession?”
9:57am: Dem. Rep Castor claims this mad-rush boondoggle will “bolster science.” (Insert bitter laughter). Channels all the previous apocalpytic rhetoric swilled before every bailout: “What if we don’t act!? We can’t afford not to act?!”

10:02am: GOP Rep. Pence blasts “embarrassingly short” debate on behemoth bill. Says there are reports that there are new trade restriction in the bill, but who knows. No has read the bill. The way the bill is coming to the floor should be disturbing to every American. Last night at 3:00am, House Dems filed 309-page amendment and denied 224 GOP amendments. Three hours, 1 amendment filed. What’s the hurry? What are we hiding – that we can’t afford more time for Americans to examine what’s in the bill? What’s in it? Corporate welfare? Special provisions to placate members? Majority just denied us one additional minute of debate?! This is not Congress! I don’t know what this is…a travesty!
Pence also mentioned that Dems shaved another minute from the GOP’s time.
10:14am: Crikey. Sheila Jackson Lee is babbling about “getting the carbon out of the air.”
10:20am: GOP Rep. Biggert talks about the five amendments that she proposed and Dems rejected. Calls attention to national building codes.
10:22am: Dem Rep. Quigley preaches cult of global warming science. Says there are no contrary studies. Gee, I wonder why: Ask Alan Carlin!
10:24am: GOP Rep. Marsha Blackburn: We are the party of KNOW. We want the people to KNOW what’s in this bill! You go, girl.
10:38am: Philip Kerpen at AFP says Dems. Ortiz and Mollohan are now no votes.

The pay-offs:
More than a dozen Democratic members of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition were not ready to back the bill as of Thursday, many of them concerned with the rising utility prices that would result.
“The most important thing is what impact it is going to have on our constituents in their daily lives,” said Rep. Allen Boyd, D-Fla., who is co-chairman of the Blue Dogs and undecided on the bill.
Boyd said he has fielded calls from White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. “He wants it done,” Boyd said.
Democrats have cut numerous deals to get them as close as they are now, the most recent concessions made to win over members of the House Committee on Agriculture, whose chairman, Rep. Collin Peterson, D-Minn., agreed to back the bill only after negotiators agreed to put in place provisions favorable to farmers and those growing corn for the production of ethanol.
Even with those changes, Boyd said, “I’m not sure it helped as much as everyone thought it would.”
But the bill has come closer to passage than most expected even a week ago, when Peterson was leading more than 40 Democrats in opposition to the bill.
That number has been whittled down considerably, said Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colo., “because of the tenacity of the speaker and the commitment of the president.”

House Democrats narrowly won an important test vote Friday on groundbreaking legislation to combat global warming and usher in a new era of cleaner energy. Republican opponents said it included the largest tax increase ever.
The vote was 217-205 to send the White House-backed legislation to the full House. Thirty Democrats defected, reflecting the deep divisions over the plan. Supporters and opponents agree it mean higher energy costs, but they disagree widely on the impact on consumers.

I just called Chellie Pingree’s office (d-ME) and asked if she is going to read Henry Waxman’s 300 pg. amendment that he just added this morning. Ha! They had the nerve to tell me she will. Who can read 300 pages of gobbldeygook in a morning and understand it well enough to vote on it?
She is a dyed in the wool liberal who’s mom is the pres. of our legislature here in the People’s Socialist Republic of Maine.
I told her aide that this huge tax increase will be remembered come the next election.

Michael Jackson or the future of our country and way of life – doesn’t seem like a difficult choice to make but apparaently it is for a great number of people.
Michael Jackson was a talented, troubled individual who had his demons to contend with. He may or may not be at peace now. He’s gone the way of all living things. It’s time to move on and concern ourselves with the living.
AS long as we can still vote in 2010, 2012 and into the future, we aren’t done yet.

I just emailed Fox News and told them that it is very sad and shocking that M. Jackson has died but that an entire night and now morning is enough coverage. I reminded them that cap and tax will affect our taxes and freedoms and that as sad as Jackson’s passing is, it will not affect either of those.

If this bill passes following the process that is currently in place and apparently going to be followed isn’t this one of the kinds of legislations that could be headed to court regarding its constitutionality? This impacts some big players out there, utility companies, who have the deep pockets needed for a run to the Supreme Court. If some of these new “laws” can be over turned that sure would squelch some of the momentum the left thinks it has…
I just wonder what our beloved socialists will do when China begins laying claims to all of the “troubled assets” that secure its purchase of American debts. Will we still have to worry about the American government when others are openly invited into our realm? What about all of the constitutional rights bestowed upon non-citizens by virtue of our congress critters? How about the new Russian bases in Venezuela and Cuba?
The problem has started with government inefficiency and bloated bureaucratic bastards screwing us at every turn but where does it end? Methinks that ultimately what remains of our government may not be the only problem we face when this is all played out. A scant year ago I would have believed such nonsense to be conspiratorial at best and delusional at worst … but these days?

The only thing that will get people’s attention on this is when it hits their pockets. Bring it on, I say, maybe the sheeple will start to wake up. The Aussies are already rethinking their own cap and trade bill, after only a few weeks.
How anyone could vote Democrat completely baffles me. Are Democrat voters insane, stupid, or both? Why on God’s earth would ANYONE support a tax on carbon dioxide, a naturally occurring and essential gas? Man-made global warming is a friggin’ HOAX! Real science has already clearly debunked this nonsense, but the Gorebots don’t want to hear it (la-la-la, can’t HEAR you!). You talk about polarization in this country, Bush can’t hold a candle to Obama and the Corrupt-o-crats that are trying to turn the United States into just another European socialist backwater. I said on another thread a few days ago that Daschle’s book “Critical:…” discusses Daschle’s (and all democrats’) plans to ration healthcare. I can’t find the link right now to the review that criticizes the actions that would be taken if such a plan passes. [I am at work and have to get back to my duties!!!] . There’s plenty of info on the Internet both pro and con.
Part of it seems to say they should realize when their surgery/procedure should not be pursued, because of costs, etc.

It is not a matter for belief. It is factual. Death is cheaper than health care for the elderly. One of the reasons why all the talk about preventive medical care is blowing smoke up your proverbial behind. IF the goal is to cut cost, preventive health care is not a good thing. Counter intuitive I know. But preventive health care means people live longer. Living longer means as one lives longer one uses up more health care dollars, which means cost goes up.
Death is always cheaper.
So IF one is only interested in cutting health care cost, that person sees death as a money saver.
Its not a thing to believe in or not believe it. It just is.
The good news is that if this thing passes, it should be SOOO easy to beat them in 2010 and 2012 will be a landslide in favor of the GOP.
Think of the wonderful ads saying the Obama Admin will raise your taxes by umpteen % and the GOP get rid of this sham Cap & Trade and stave off this massive tax increase.
O/T but along the same lines as “easy to beat them” – Socialized health care – How much would it cost for uninsured people to just submit a bill for reimbursement? Could that cost actually equal $4 trillion?

It’s worth noting that to say the amendment Waxman added is only 300 pages is extremely misleading. If you look at the text of the amendment a lot of stuff is striking stuff in the old bill and making slight modification. (Page 19, beginning line 13, strike paragraph (16) and replace with…)
Essentially you have to have the amendment and the original bill in hand and read both. This is more like an additional 1,000+ pages that need to be sorted through.

I know here,in rural Kansas, we have coal fired plants and natural gas. Propane if you want to go that route. All, and I mean all, farmers agri associated people are about ready to just throw in the towel over this knee-cap and then trade bill. They do not know how they are going to survive this. Thats including all of us the live rural, utility prices are going through the roof without this scam of a bill.
The tea parties are “taking to the streets”. Unfortunately, even our right to peacefully protest is being shut down. The cancelled rally in Atlanta is just the beginning of the loss of our constitutional freedoms. We need to RALLY without permits. Don’t let them get the chance to shut us down.

1. I still have to wonder how long it will be until “climate change” or “endangerment” is universally accepted as true science, and those who dissent are labeled as “enemies of science”. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time we’ve been down this road.
2. Maybe we should just ban the most prevalent causation of the greenhouse effect on this planet: dihydrogen oxide. Besides, dihydrogen oxide kills quite a few people, not to mention plants and animals, each year due to flooding, drowning, sinkholes, and mudslides. In larger quantities, dihydrogen oxide is poisonous. It causes corrosion, erosion, destroys pavement when it freezes, and burns people when it’s hot. Yes, we should definitely ban dihydrogen oxide as an environmental hazard.
3. Be proud, America: these are your Representatives! This is why those pesky Congressional elections are important, but hey, “conservatives” just had to focus on getting McCain elected…

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has scheduled a vote on the bill for Friday. Although Democratic support has been growing, she still is believed to be short of the votes needed to get the bill through.
The Senate, meanwhile, is waiting for the House to act. Approval of a climate bill in the Senate has been viewed as a long shot because it will require 60 votes to overcome a certain filibuster. And that has made it even harder for some House Democrats to vote for the politically charged bill.

the drudge report also says the states are going to have to pick the pocket of businesses a little more, to balance out that unemployment insurance fund in the future. put more unfunded mandates on business, and i guarantee you you will get fewer businesses. ss (7.5% payed by employer) unemployment ins. 100% paid by employer. workmans comp ins. 100% paid by employer. govt tax collection and bookeeping, 100% paid by employers. osha requirements, eeoc requirements, mountains of paperwork for the government each month requiring a specialized secretary/bookeeper/regulation specialist, 100% paid for by the employer. Just moved into a newer home and are slow rolling the sale of our 80+ previous home, fortunately it was paid off and we thought we could wait for the market to improve. That energy efficiency requirement/penalty will kill the market for older homes with lots of true character.

I pray your prediction does not come to pass, and I think it won’t. People are not willing to give up the simple pleasures and things that bring them joy. Even in the People’s Republic of Santa Cruz, they’re telling Arnold to shove his water restrictions, unwilling to let their beautiful gardens and landscaping go to seed. We’re waking up to the manipulation of all news and all supposed-”science” that continues to erode our enjoyment of life. Screw you, Obama. Screw you, Al Gore. And the same curses for Waxman, Pelosi, and every weenie in Washington who can’t think for themselves.
They’re going to dwell on him for a week, just like they did with Princess Diana, Jackie O, and that Kennedy kid who flew himself into the drink. By this time next week, you’ll be shouting at the TV, “He’s DEAD! Let him go!!”
But the following people are probably very grateful right now, because they just fell off the radar:

- The Iranian mullahs.
- The donks in Congress.
Meantime, I’m not even bothering to watch FNC until maybe next Friday. Until then, it’s going to be endless variations of,
