Cap-and-Tax Watch: Protests across the country

Photoshop: Leo Alberti
Like my friend Kirby Wilbur in Seattle said, cap-and-tax is a “make or break” issue for many, many grass-roots limited government activists.
You wouldn’t know it from the national media, but there have been and will continue to be cap-and-tax protests at congressional offices across the country. Some small, some large, all attended by citizens sickened by the abrogated debate, lack of transparency, reliance on junk science, and job-killing effect of the massive legislation no one read.

Focus on the Senate now as well … but no matter how much we hope they will listen, don’t count on it.
I actually wrote this for one of my posts but it seems to fit here as well. Oddly enough, the Senate was supposed to be an added layer of checks and balances to prevent the centralization of federal power and the illegal usurpation of rights from we the people and the independent but United States of America.
These days? Pork Barrel Politics and WIIFM (What’s In It For Me) seem to be the rule of the day.
I predict Crap and Taxya will be Obama’s Waterloo if it passes.
I will do my best to make sure that Mark Kirk has his aZZ handed to him next election cycle.
Not if they can complete their takeover before they are “bothered” by any more pesky elections.
Why do you or I need Acorn for a government census again? There is nothing in their history to suggest that partisanship will have any impact at all on their efforts is there?
Well if Obama’s position on the Honduras is any indication of what he may be thinking then you may be right.
There was a protest yesterday at the Charlottesville office of Perriello.
The article in the local (Democrat) paper doesn’t specify when Perriello said:
We here at MM and the local protesters must all be Saudi princes and oil executives.
This guy must go.

Fox news and neanderthal talk radio are pushing the idea that US and world scientists are in a grand conspiracy to bankrupt America for the sake of Sharia Communism. In any given congressional district there are 20 to 30 people who believe them.
Why should the MSM cover these few weak minded individuals? Even Michael Jackson is more interesting.
Were you born an A^(*)hole or was it something you acquired over your lifetime?
lgm, what rock are you living under? You must never talk to anyone outside of your fellow teachers that seem to all think the same kumbaya way.Get out,ask around. You will find 20 to 30 people against this stupidity in 1 block.
Happy Fourth Of July!!!
I figure that has the same effect on you as pouring salt on a slug.
Apt analogy, doncha think….????
lgm,
Please refer me to any peer reviewed article or paper supporting the hypothesis that human activity is having a provable effect on climate. I know of no such thing.
Please make sure the article or paper is not trying to prove that the climate is warming, that is clearly established (or at least the climate has exhibited a long-term warming trend over the last several centuries). What is missing is a clear link establishing the anthropogenic nature of climate change. If you know of any such paper written in the last 5 years or so, I would be glad to read it. Do not refer me to the junk science in the IPCC reports – their hypothesis has been proven wrong on several fronts. The missing “hot spot” in the troposphere is proof of their hypothesis being incorrect.
I hope Californian’s in Rep. George Miller’s Mendocino District protest at his office long and loud. He not only strongly supports the Cap and Tax, he also had the temerity to suggest that the government should take over private retirement accounts! He was quickly hushed by the Democrat leadership after making that suggestion publicly.
If this type of thinking doesn’t wake you up, nothing will. A simple exercise of imagining what the next pot of cash, that is not currently taxed, will be targeted for a government takeover, should be sobering.
These current
congressmencon artists cannot be trusted nor believed. Boot ‘em out!http://www.livescience.com/environment/070312_solarsys_warming.html
The SUN is causing planetary warming all around our S-O-L-A-R System…
Wow…whoda thunk it…
The Sun…?!?!?
What part of CRAP & RAID addresses throttling back the Sun…????
Hmmmm…..
Gee… That seems like a lot more than 20 or 30 in a Congressional District.
Does it not….????
Hmmmmm……?????
You can fool some of the people ALL of the time. They are called Leftists. But then, they HATE humanity, so…
CO2 has no impact on the earth’s temperature, that is just the big
lie that has been pushed for so long that unfortunately lots of
people have come to believe it.
Firstly CO2 is the RESULT of higher temperatures not the cause. The
Sunspot Cycle drives variation in climate, see this chart from NASA
and see that its about a ten to twelve year cycle. When the earth is
warmer more CO2 is released from the oceans. But CO2 does not drive
the temperature change, the sun does that. CO2 is a minority gas in
the atmosphere that only makes up far less than one percent (.038%
to be exact). CO2 is an essential gas which plant life requires in
order to grow.
Here is what scientists without economic interest in the global
warming fraud have to say about CO2
If you take CO2 as a percentage of all the gases in the atmosphere,
the oxygen, the nitrogen and argon and so on its .054% [.00054], its
an incredibly small portion and then of course you’ve got to take
that portion which supposedly humans are adding which is the focus
of all the concern and it gets even smaller.
The atmosphere is made up of a multitude of gases, a small
percentage of them we call greenhouse gases, and of that very small
percentage of greenhouse gases, 95% of it is water vapor, its the
most important greenhouse gas.
The ice core record goes to the very heart of the problem we have
here, they said, if the CO2 increases in the atmosphere as a
greenhouse gas then the temperature will go up, but the ice core
records shows exactly the opposite. So the fundamental assumption,
the most fundamental assumption of the whole theory of climate
change due to humans is shown to be wrong.
Professor Tim Ball, Dept. of Climatology University of Winnipeg
[There have been periods] in earth’s history when we had three times
as much CO2 as we do today, times when we had ten times as much CO2
as we have today, if CO2 has a large effect in climate then we
should see it in the temperature reconstruction.
Professor Nir Shawiv, Institute of Physics, University of Jerusalem
We can’t say that CO2 will drive climate, it certainty never did in
the past.
CO2 clearly cannot be causing temperature changes, its a product of
temperature, its following temperature changes.
Professor Ian Clark, Dept. of Earth Sciences, University of Ottawa
None of the major climate changes in the last thousand years can be
explained by CO2.
Dr. Piers Corbyn, Climate Forecaster, Weather Action
Water vapor is a greenhouse gas, by far the most important
greenhouse gas.
Humans produce a small fraction in the single digits, percentage
wise of the CO2 that is produced in the atmosphere.
Professor John Christy, Lead Author, IPCC, Department of Atmospheric
Science, University of Alabama in Huntsville
Anyone that goes around and says that carbon dioxide is responsible
for most of the warming of the 20th century hasn’t looked at the
basic numbers.
Professor Patrick Michaels, Dept of Environmental Sciences,
University of Virginia
CO2 began to increase exponentially in about 1940, but the
temperature actually began to decrease 1940, continued until about
1975.
Professor Syun-Ichi Akasofu, Director, International Arctic Research
Center
Also, this is the fourth time this century a climate change fraud
has been attempted.

Aruuuga! Aruuuga! Waa-o waa-o waa-o! MORON ALERT….MORON ALERT!!!
And to think this idiot teaches? It’s no wonder our country is in such bad shape when mentally challenged nincompoops like lgm keep electing progressive representation! Does he support them, because they are responsible for his paycheck…or he is just blinded by socialist ideology?
Is any more proof needed that his ilk are incapable of logical thought? He is either the epitome of the “Peter Principle,” or is walking a fine line between irrationality and insanity!
Sickened is right – literally!
At this moment there are miners being laid off from mines around the region because the EPA refuses to act on mining permits that were legally filed long ago; it is rumored the EPA is waiting to see if Cap and Tax passes or not before they act.
The effect of this delay will be many mining families going without health insurance and increased utility rates in the middle of this coming winter.
It’s sad, it’s avoidable, and it’s based on the lie of global warming – a scheme to sell carbon credits and make a select few DC fat cats rich.
LOL Ragspierre
You are to be admired for your patience and your tenacity! Still, please remember that you are providing logic and reason to someone who exhibits no proof of possessing either trait. We would all be pleasantly surprised if he did, but don’t go expecting it. Besides, I think he is just doing his lunch hour swoop and poop.
I wonder if the Daily Kos is banned on school computers? I just cannot imagine any other reason for him to continually suffer in the shadows of such principles as logic and reason when he espouses (would that be spews?) his opinions here?
Rags,
Did you read the article you linked to in post #13? It seems to imply that the increase in solar output is not enough to account for the observed warming on other solar system planets and moons. The article also quotes Michael Mann (the originator of the now discredited “hockey stick” graph):“Solar activity continues to be one of the last bastions of contrarians,” Mann said. “People who don’t accept the existence of anthropogenic climate change still try to point to solar activity.”
If I were the creator of the “hockey stick”, I would also discredit anyone who disagrees with AGW.
Guys:
I don’t have the time to dissect stuff too much, so I read a lot (for a lawyer, reading anything BUT law stuff is going above and beyond), and I just “load the pipeline”.
My purpose in posting this stuff is to…in a quick and dirty way…put up some things for people here who we never see, but follow these threads closely. I’ve heard from several by back-channels.
Global Warming is such a clouded (no pun) field that it is difficult to know where to put any credibility. The actual data on Earth is highly suspect, as some of it was taken VERY unscientifically.
Several of its adherents are bankrupt, as near as I can tell, in the sense of their own demonstrated partisanship.
As a trial lawyer, I could make mincemeat of their testimony, were they offered as “expert” witnesses. I doubt they could withstand the normal predicate challenges to qualify them as expert witnesses.
I concluded LONG ago (two decades plus) that environmentalism is a religion…a faith-based ideology, having listened carefully to the representations of its adherents. In the final analysis, they make no sense.
CRAP & RAID is a prime example of scientific idiots attempting to legislate a fix to a non-existent problem. In fact, it is a study in governmental corruption, and very little more.
***
GOOD JOB XLER8BMW #15. The ice core sample warming / cooling data correlates well with the cyclical earth to sun and axis tilt changes–over the last 500,000 years.
***
The recent lower sunspot activity probably accounts for the slightly cooler last 10 years. There is a close correlation between this activity and earth temperatures.
***
The “kicker” in the deck is volcanic activity–a day’s volcanic gas and very fine dust particle output changes a lot of temperature data. Mount Pinatubo’s explosion 20 years ago in the Phillipines caused a few degrees cooling for a year or more. The El Paso, Tx. sunsets had a lot more bright orange and violet colors that year–very noticeable effect.
***
But this is like Rhambo Emmanuel said, “Never let a good crisis go to waste!” Anything to rip off the taxpayer works for these environmental clowns–regardless of scientific realities. Like the old Bogart movie–WE DON’T NEED ANY STEENKING DATA!

Rags,
I am one of those who follow this blog and read the comments – usually while eating my lunch or at night. I have the day off today, it is raining, and my wife is out shopping, so I have time for a few comments. You usually do a very good job of referring to links and making a good case for what you state – I found it surprising that your link in #13 was just the opposite of the point you were making.
As to your belief that environmentalism is religion, I’m not sure if you have read this essay by Michael Crichton, but it is very well written and reinforces your statement quite well.
Lots of good info there, enjoyed reading it, lgm doesn’t have time to investigate as to whether or not he’s been had by is beloved cult leaders, which, that is, all global warming is a cult.
There is no chance of getting through to
sheeple like lgm and others on this site, they’ve drank the kool aid and love it, their just waiting for the end… a replay of Jonestown, on a much larger scale.
Thank you…very much, CW.
I have read Crichton. I also watched him be savaged by the Gorebal Warming coven for his heresy.
I was saddened by his death. His was a really powerful mind, and it appears to have been coupled to a high sense of integrity.
As I understand the story, he was a devotee of the idea of AGW until he researched it closely for a novel he was preparing to write. He had the guts and commitment to good science to reverse his own bias, and to expose himself to the loathing of the culture in which he played a role for several decades in Hollywood and on the Coasts.
I miss this great mind.
Ragspierre said (#20):
As a lawyer you must know that an expert witness has to establish credentials. If you want to know what scientists think about global warming, look at the major professional societies:
The American Physical Society,
The American Association for the Advancement of Science (publishers of Science Magazine)
The American Geophysical Union (principle professional society for climate science)
Before you use a source of information, you have to do due diligence on it. What are its funding sources? How is it regarded by other professionals? Global warming deniers come up zero on these scales.
It has stopped raining, so I am out of here. Have to tend to my various berry patches: strawberry, blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, honeyberry, jostaberry, gooseberry, and seaberry. I also have a vegetable garden to look after. Nothing I enjoy more than grazing in the garden or eating fresh berries.
I recently finished reading Alan Carlin’s suppressed report about AGW. I do not care what his background is, or whether the report is peer-reviewed or not, the raw data linked to in the report is enough to convince anyone with a questioning mind (and who is willing to use it) to become very skeptical about AGW.
I notice that lgm has not responded with any links. Does anyone know of any peer-reviewed report or paper that presents any data showing a link between human activity and climate change? Something written in the last five years or so (so that the data presented is current, and fully reflective of the recent cooling trend)?
I am not aware of any.
My only question is it peer reviewed?
LMAO!

xler8bmw said (#29):
Each of these professional society statements is based on discussions among the society leadership back and forth citing published (therefore peer reviewed) research. Wikipedia cites plenty of it. Have a look if you’re interested.
lgm,
Nice links, but where’s the beef? Where are the actual data for such statements? Most of these organizations are heavily dependent on the government for funding – as a result, I expect them not to “rock the boat”.
Where are the studies? Where is there a link to data (not a computer model study). The IPCC also ran a computer model study that predicted hot spots in the troposphere – where are the hot spots? The IPCC also predicted a rise in ocean level by 2011 – that is not going to occur.
You should follow your own advice: what is the major source of funding for scientists – the government, which is openly advocating that AGW is real. The problem is that reality is not cooperating. There is a negative correlation between average global temperatures and CO2 content in the atmosphere.
Where’s the beef?
Again, here’s a thought: instead of these stupid protests, which don’t accomplish much of anything, how about focusing on Congressional elections next time around, as opposed to fighting over who’s the least of the two evils in the drama-filled circus we call “Presidential elections”? And you know what? We won’t have to worry about said circus in 2010, so here’s our chance to not get distracted. Oh, and another thought: how about voting based upon principle vice party? (I know, this is a radical thought…) I’ve got news for you: Republicans don’t care about “conservatives”. Why? Because Republicans know you’ll always vote for them, mainly because they know you’ll never vote Democrat nor “waste your vote” on a third-party. So instead of being the country’s sheep, why not vote on the principles you say you espouse?
You wish to combat the Marxists? Then learn how they fight:
“By psychopolitics our chief goals are effectively carried forward. To produce a maximum of chaos in the culture of the enemy is our first most important step. Our fruits are grown in chaos, distrust, economic depression and scientific turmoil. … With it you can erase our enemies as insects… Use the courts, use the judges, use the Constitution of the country, use its medical societies and its laws to further our ends. … And bring to Earth, through Communism, the greatest peace Man has ever known.” ~Lavrenti Beria
Before you get mad at me, remember: “The truth only irritates those it enlightens, but does not convert.” ~Pasquier Quesnel
lgm:
Will you deny that the greatest impediment to the advance of medical science has often been the “consensus” science of its time?
Will you deny that a raft of leading scientists…including many Nobel Laureates…predicted wholesale death, disease, and injury if American cities were electrified?
Truthfully now, are you not a disciple of Malthus?
lgm:
Look up “Daubert Challenge”.
CWinNY said (#32):
Thanks. I try to reply in kind to other posts. That means A@@#$%e to some, but civil this time.
The Wikipedia article has references to original published work, but I’m not sure what good that would do. Think of going to the doctor. She writes a prescription for drug X. You ask why she thinks drug X will work. She doesn’t cite original data, but summaries prepared by experts. The professional societies have prepared just such summaries of global warming research. It’s unlikely that the doctor, let alone the patient, has the technical background to evaluate the raw published studies.
This is a legitimate concern. It has happened that the National Science Foundation has steered research in a given direction by selective funding (in the field of math education). I doubt that’s happening here because: (1) professional societies are not government funded, and they often criticize the government (look at the policy sections of their web sites), (2) I personally know a number of high level climate scientists & trust their judgment (OK, maybe that doesn’t help you, sorry) (3) their data is scrutinized by all kinds of outsiders and holds up well (despite the Fox News misinformation).
The scientific literature contains climate measurements (ice, temperature) that show disturbing trends. Even this is noisy and has to be interpreted using fancy statistical models. Predictions of the future also rely on models rather than simple extrapolations of data. It’s in the literature. There’s a good Q&A here, also with references.
lgm;
You’ve ignored this several times, but I like it so much, I’ll use it again.
During the scientific era there have been several very significant volcanic events. These events had clearly documented global weather effects, some of them catastrophic.
Though all of them produced immense levels of “greenhouse” gases, there is no documented concomitant period of global warming to correspond with the event–not in direct measured data, or in anecdotal evidence.
Explain that.
Given that there were immense “point-loads” of CO2 produced in each of these events, how do you explain that the earth’s atmosphere seems to have accommodated these releases? Or, is it your position that there was a lasting, measurable increase in net CO2 in our atmosphere that resulted?
lgm, I’ll agree that it’s not a conspiracy. However, it most certainly is a fraud!
Actually, lgm. I’m the guy that needs to see the raw clinical data submitted to FDA.
Kinda like you not having the technical background to debate global warming.
Think about a drug which really doesn’t work. However, a few experts and professional societies prepare summaries which claim that it does work. Doctors all buy into the belief, and patients all believe them. Yet, nobody seems able to produce the raw data to support the original claim. But that doesn’t stop people like you from continuously linking to the flawed summaries because you’re not smart enough to understand the raw data.
The raw data doesn’t show such trends.
The fancy models aren’t used to interpret temperature data. They’re used to manipulate temperature data.
To point. Do you agree that Mann’s hockey stick has been debunked? (My link is to your beloved Wikipedia.)
The liberal belief in global warming is based on a simple, and oft used dichotomy for garnering support for their “theories:”
“I said it, therefore it must be true!” Disagree and you are a hater, and denier.
lgm,
Its raining again, so here I am again. My day job is as a mechanical engineer. Right now, I am designing a system to pump the groundwater out of a contaminated area, run it through some ion exchangers to strip out the Cs-137 and Sr-90 (radioactive isotopes Cesium -137 and Strontium -90). I have an MS in engineering. I can handle the raw data.
The link you sent references the EPA and the IPCC report. The EPA is clearly politicized, as is the IPCC report. (By the way how many of those EPA reports you linked to were prepared by Alan Carlin or involved some of his inputs?). None of those links has what I am looking for: data that shows the clear correlation between rising global temperatures and rising CO2 levels. Right now, there is consensus (there’s that word again) that average global temperatures are falling (satellite data), so there is a negative correlation between the two. Where’s a report, any report, anything that provides a valid hypothesis that CO2 is anything other than a bit player in climate change.
CO2 is about 380 ppm in the atmosphere. CO2 does not absorb light waves in the infra red range very well (narrow bands centered around 2.9, 4.3, and 15 micro meters – approx. 5-8% of the entire spectrum of black body radiation). Human contribution to CO2 levels is approx. 3% of the total.
Just these facts alone are enough to give one pause in thinking that CO2 and rising temperatures are linked.
I work with physicists and chemists (PhD levels on a daily basis) most of them are very skeptical about AGW, and some of them are members of the bodies that you linked to supporting the AGW hypothesis. Like most governing bodies, politics tends to contribute more to their stances than science.
By the way, 200 years ago the governing bodies of advanced medicine would have certainly recommended bleeding as a way to cure certain illnesses. There would have been a consensus among doctors about the effectiveness of such practice.
yes indeed, wikepedia is my very first source for factual correct information. let’s all believe in an open source blog mimmicing and proposing to be an encyclopedia. didn’t i just read that the world’s foremost expert on polar bear population says the damn things are multiplying like spotted owls and snail darders.
lgm said as a lawyer….expert witnesses. Expert witnesses are a dime a dozen. Each side can get an expert witness to say whatever they want them to say. Besides, lawyers are worse than politicians so who gives a crap what they say. I suppose Al Gore is an expert witness in the libs arena. He is nothing but a blowhole who has made millions of $$$$$, but who jets around spewing crap in the atmosphere and sets his thermostat at whatever temp he wants. Phony all the way. It’s been in the 60’s at night here in NC the last 7-10 days and is forecast to continue. This global warming really sucks.
