    A few things that impressed me;

    1. I didn’t see any drunk idiots running around. You can have a good time without getting drunk.

    2. Everyone was polite. I couldn’t believe how orderly it was leaving the ranch. Everyone took their turn merging into the exit lanes.

    3. The general atmosphere was uplifting. It gave me hope for our future.

    I pray that we can keep the movement going. If you didn’t make it to one or haven’t gone to a tea party at all, you should. It’s a great experience and you get to meet a lot of good American’s.

    Lastly, I hope that in the near future we can stop calling it a tea party and start calling it a freedom party. Happy Independence Day everyone!

    I went to the Las Cruces, NM. teaparty since El Paso “wimped out” on ours. A lot less people (150) attended–no press. The impromptu April 15 th. El Paso teaparty at Stateline had about 1000 people–and was a lot more diverse group.

    Well, y’all did an outstanding job with it Michael!

    My background was in film when I got drafted into my first 3 cam studio shoot of a local talk show. I wasn’t too fond of people jumping out of frame and some crank in a booth yelling in my ear. Fortunately it was a recorded show, so we could do retakes.

    Of course, me being in “film” mode and looking for the interesting/artsy shots didn’t help any. Especially since I was on the key cam (cam 2), lol. Ah, well, it was a “ya live n’ learn” experience.

    I was at the tea party here in tiny Longview, TX, and what I saw was truly remarkable. People who’ve been largely apolitical their entire lives have decided to get involved for the first time.

    On April 15th, Longview was the tea party for 7 counties. This year, 3 of those counties had their own events. There were 42 of these IN TEXAS ALONE.

    But what’s really exciting is what is happening at them. I walked around and talked to people. Like the couple who had never been involved in politics, but who have set up a We The People chapter in Longview. And the couple who did the same in even smaller, neighboring Kilgore. They had tables set up, and signed up literally dozens of new potential activists at the July 4th tea party. A web site infrastructure is in place, contacts are being made, events are scheduled….stuff is happening. Conservatives are DOING SOMETHING instead of just listening to K-Street talking heads and complaining.

    These aren’t “party people.” I’m sure most have voted GOP, but there wasn’t an office holder to be found. And when you talked with folks, you realized they’re as disgusted with the betrayal of the GOP as they are with the Dems – maybe more so.

    Meetings are being scheduled. Strategies are being mapped. There’s a team, for example, working on helping out in districts that are “close calls” politically. And the signature pitch of the committed activist abounded: “Tell your friends. Bring just one like-minded neighbor. If they’ve upset with what’s going on, thell them they have an obligation to get involved!”

    Again, these aren’t pols -these are ordinary folks who see their country and their freedom going down the drain and are committed to doing something about it while they can.

    I have a hunch the September 12th event in DC is going to be something spectacular. I must have talked to 10 people yesterday who plan to be there. In Longview, Texas!

    Yes, something really different is happening. Hey, I myself have always voted…and I’ve blogged and visited sites like this and Free Republic. But I’ve never worked a campaign. And until April 15th I’d never even attended a political rally. I’ve been too busy having a career. Shame on me….but no longer! If the country is going to go down the tubes, I want to at least say I did what I could to stop it.

    But, hey, lgm, keep thinking it’s nothing of note. That’s just fine with me. I imagine you’ll keep thinking that way until, oh, about November 4th of next year.

    Take a look at what happened in North Carolina. It’s the subject of a case that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court:

    Dean v. Leake is of interest not just because it alleges the use of incorrect census numbers as part of a gerrymander, but for what it reveals about how the legislature really works. Some legislative leaders and legislative staff knew the numbers being used to draw census maps were incorrect, but they kept that fact a secret from legislators who might question the use of incorrect numbers. Whether the corrected numbers received from census officials should have been used or not is a question before the courts, but the fact staff concealed information that should have been made public at the direction of legislative leaders is not in question. Why isn’t the press leading the charge for open government?

    The tea parties are moot if we don’t immediately go to work to ensure honest elections.

    lgm, I’m not so angry with Obama. I’m angry with myself for not caring more, for not being more active. I used to be, but the cares of life choke out. Right now, I’m looking for a job.     lgm, you and I both want our country strong, right? You want a safe and prosperous place for your family and your descendants, right? Why do you hate us so much? I appeal to your sense of logic to see that the leftist Utopia pushed by progressives can not succeed …that there is real evil in this World …that your people have been persecuted for millenniums …that there is a reason for that persecution that is not deserved …that your people are precious and must be protected …that your people are the mechanism by which God chose to save human kind. lgm, please turn to Christ.     We had the one-ear headsets and a very soft-spoken (but excellent) mixer person. For the speeches, workable; for the bands, impossible. Lots of undirected shooting with talented mixing keeping it same.

    As for 2010, it’s a lot harder to steal congressional level elections in enough places. The presidential theft can be accomplished using just 3-4 states; a mass revolt throwing out every rural and ‘flyover’ Democrat will involve at least 30 states. We should be able to knock off anywhere between 1-3 Dems in Texas Congressional delegation alone; but only if there is major revolution in the GOP against the RINOs. That starts now and it must be based solely on voting records. At the state level, I’m represented by two RINOs voting for the taxpayers at the most 56% of the time. That will change.
