Thank you, Aaron: A U.S. soldier’s sacrifice on Independence Day

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 5, 2009 02:12 AM

Got back to my hotel after a wonderful time at the Dallas Tea Party only to read of a father’s heartbreak.

David M. Masters passed along devastating news on Twitter this evening that his son, Aaron, was one of two American soldiers killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan today.

His message:

America’s North Shore Journal has more details and notes:

The official announcement has not yet been released. It appears that Aaron was one of the two soldiers killed in a large Taliban attack on a base in Paktika. That is just a “maybe” until DoD releases the info. They hold it back a couple of days so that the families can all be notified.

NYT has background on the attack.

Aaron’s MySpace page is here. His brothers and sisters are grieving, too.

David M. Masters asked the Twittersphere to remember his son on this hallowed day:

The hashtag #thankyouaaron has been the #1 trending topic all night.

We will not forget your son, Mr. Masters.

From the Founding Fathers to our defenders on the front lines, the lesson resounds: Freedom is not free.

Thank you, Aaron.

    Rest in Peace, Aaron.

My sole concerned hope is that the majority of Americans truly appreciate his sacrifice AND mission. For a jaded nation to not fully follow-through what needs to be done over there to liberate men and women from fanatics and tyranny will truly make their ultimate price in vain. We have a nation that doesn’t know the difference between a state of peace and non-war. To people living in the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War it wasn’t “peace”, even though bullets weren’t flying. The same for women and girls especially in Afghanistan. Helping to liberate them would be among the most noblest of accomplishments our people in uniform can do, not being global meals-on-wheels as too many teachers in our schools are teaching our kids as our military’s “best side.”

Good Rest Aaron, and may the MSM not use him to score “anti-war” policy points to defeat his sacrifice in the name of Non-War.

Me too. But you must Study Islam James, only then will you understand things.

Not all Cultures, and not all religions are equal. Freedom to you and I is completely different to them.

Read Diana West. Go to http://www.jihadwatch.org read books by Robert Spencer, Andrew Bostom, Bat Ye’or, Brigitte Gabriel, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Omar Nasiri, Andrew C. McCarthy, Paul Sperry, etc. Then, explain how we “Win” any kind of Freedom and Liberty for these people, when we set up Constitutions based on Islamic Law or Sharia. There are “Moderate” Muslims, but there is no “Moderate” Islam.

That is what the Western Countries fail to learn, at our Own Peril.

I refuse to look at Islam as being equal with my own beliefs. It is not. It is a cult, a lie, a cancer that spreads to the hearts and souls of men. Once it is fully rooted, it brings forth fruit that lies, kills and destroys.

The very opportunity to have freedom can begin to lift people from the grip of those lies, offering them hope, and a seed of truth.

Thank you Aaron for helping plant that seed. God bless the family.

    Jangar,
You are correct, it is not equal.

Islam is a total belief system. It tells you what to wear, what to eat, who to marry, and who not to like.

Woman are oppressed under Islamic Law as well as Jews and Christians.
It would appear after 7 plus years, we have not won the “Hearts and Minds” of the people. We can not compete with Muhammads words and deads.

9 Even as the Father hath loved me, I also have loved you: abide ye in my love.
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.
12 This is my commandment, that ye love one another, even as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Thank you Aaron for your sacrifice. Your work here is done. To be absent from here is to be in the presence of the Lord.

Thanks to the Masters family for giving your son up to serve our country in order to offer a chance at freedom to a nation of people who will never know his name. We know and we do not forget. I pray for you to find peace and comfort.
