37,000 at Dallas Tea Party — and next steps
I returned from the Dallas Tea Party this weekend inspired and motivated by the massive turnout of citizen activists. The official county estimate of the day-long event’s crowd: 37,000!
The Tea Party organizers aren’t surprised by the MSM games of lowballing numbers. And they are not letting it distract them from their agenda. Behind the scenes, they are mobilizing and organizing their troops; connecting political newcomers and old hands; and working hard down at the local level to restore conservative values and principles in their city councils and state legislatures. These efforts won’t make front-page headlines or the cable news. But they will yield dividends for all of us in the form of candidates, initiatives, and reforms driven by the grass-roots instead of the Beltway establishment.

Michelle,
You didn’t mention if you saw Janeane Garafalo there. But, with the size of the crowd, I’m sure it would have been easy to miss her. Surely she wouldn’t have passed up the opportunity to see what Tea Parties are really about.
/cough
LGM will now repeat the huffpo talking points about this being no big deal even though these protests at least double each time.
Participatory democratic actions on the part of the citizenry is a good thing.
I heard on Fox News (between their forever Michael Jackson coverage)that Janeane Garafalo didn’t go. She was busy feeding her plants and watering her goldfish, or something.
Somehow we have to get them to stop spending the money. As it stands, they haven’t raised taxes. By the time the taxes actually hit us, it will be too late. I’m focusing on my work because I don’t think I’ll be able to make enough money to pay all the taxes they will need.
I have boosted my earning capability with live video from my desk. Check me out working my butt off to pay my taxes here.
But when the 2010 elections come around and many incumbents who voted in favor of the porkulus, cap & tax and health care deform lose, the media will be surprised. They’ll hold many round table discussions, seminars and forums to analyze how they could have missed what was going on.
um, I’m positive it is not your first failure, nor will it be your last, dearie.
I asked for attendance numbers at both TEA Parties I made in the Houston area, but have not had any report as yet.
Estimates for the Houston event run between 7-10,000. For North Houston, 3,500 to 5,000. The Houston area was much more dissipated than Dallas, as we had events in several suburbs over the several days of the Holiday.
On a separate note: Anybody getting the clear impression that THE ONE is stuck in the 1960s? And that he’s stuck on the stupid side of the 1960s? It sure is my conclusion.
Locally, a staunch (and entrenched) Democrat County Supervisor was allowed to speak at the Tea Party gathering. It was shocking to hear her spout her concerns about restricting freedoms, and the loss of liberty, especially since she is the wife of Democrat Henchman, Party Dirt-Diver, and socialist, Bob Mullholland!
It’s not to say that I question her sentiments, but I don’t trust her. It now brings to doubt, at least to me, the leadership of the local TP organization. (It’s like handing a loaded gun to a convicted murderer, and saying, “Here…now don’t use it!) I was somewhat taken aback that she was allowed to appear on the dais at all.
We must be ever vigilant, and vet people with known political allegiances, to insure they are not infiltrating the Tea Party organizations, in an attempt to subvert, or moderate the agenda. (Am I being too skeptical? You darn right I am! And, with good reason.) In this case, I would keep this person as far away as possible. (And by the way, in her college days, she was a local leader in the Students for a Democratic Society…that should tell you plenty!)
Caveat emptor!
It was great having you in Texas Michelle! Hope you come again soon.
I went to San Antonio Tea Party, Governor Perry stopped by, gave a great speech and showed off his “Come and Take It” boots and immediately thought, Palin/Perry 2012? They were sweet!
Marcus Luttrell and Joe the Plumber we on hand as well, with Evan Sayet Emceeing. It was fantastic.
Let’s keep it going!
This is just a thought…
I wonder if it would not be really good for the TEA Party people in areas like Houston…really VAST territory…to plan to have chartered buses bring people to a central event, rather than have them scattered out to the extent they are.
Rags, I headed up the event in North Houston and about 4500 is our best estimate based upon the things we can use to estimate, i.e. our signatures, programs handed out and left over, cars, and sheer visual.
I think your idea of consolidation, at some point, is a great idea. We still have a lot to consider and go over, but all ideas are on the table. I think Dallas is certainly a Tea party to benchmark as well.
I would like to see the next move and maybe have some dates where the event is a common area, whether it be in Austin or DC, or an event at both.
The folks in Chicago need to take some lessons from the folks in Dallas because here we only had a few hundred. In fact, the crowd was so small that I worried that this was a national trend. I’m glad to see that this was a local trend only.
Thanks very much for your information!
In Texas, a really good, really well-planned event could be in each of several cities, since we have a lot of population and a lot of distance to cover. Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Austin seem like naturals.
One day…maybe soon…we can descend on DC en mass. The MSM would have a hard time ignoring that.
Stafford County, Virginia had about 300 or 400 in attendance at their Tea Party. Not bad for a grassroots gathering with little advance notice.
And, Stafford is a bedroom community for commuters to DC and the surrounding area, without one incorporated city within its borders.
One can sense the growing anger at the wasteful spending, corruption, and the deaf ear toward “We The People” coming from Congress.
The announcement of the tenfold increase in travel by the Democrats in Congress, lead by Pelosi, didn’t help calm anyone down either. Pelosi named it “The Culture of Corruption” and although she pointed at the Republicans, it is her own party that has laid claim to the moniker.
The MSM was too busy second guessing Sarah Palin and ‘Bambi’s Russian trip to give it any coverage. Well, he’s there and given away the store but it’s being spun as a positive move… And, they wonder why people are tuning out. I am so proud of Dallas. Wow.
When all the party’s totals are added up it will be a shocker.
Mike,
It’s Chicago…hello-o-o! I’m no expert on the political make up of your area, but if any of the news reporting in the past few decades is worth anything, then I really wouldn’t expect a whole lot of informed people to turn out in support of a movement that would cut a major source of revenue from their pockets.
Am I wrong, but hasn’t Chicago been exposed by the media, as a city rife with corruption, radicalism, socialist volunteerism, ACORN supporters, and just plain uninformed supporters of entitlements?
Rags,
Agreed and I would really like to make one of our “events” exactly this. I would think that if each party could sent even 10% of their attendance at the parties, we could have somewhere in the range of 200,000 people at DC, not a small number.
We need to MAKE our politicans see that action is right on their door step.
They all are!
37,000 to 1? Oh well at least they didn’t accuse you of being Governor Palin’s Love Child by Karl Rove–they will leave that for one of our resident trolls
Around 2K Tea Party Patriots in Gilbert, Arizona.
Michelle, thanks for coming to our little Tea Party. Your speech was terrific and when I introduced myself at the dance afterward, you were as gracious and charming as I could ever imagine. It was truly a pleasure to meet you.
Please come back to Dallas soon!
None of the news people there saw anything like this number. The TV news was generous in saying that there were “thousands” (maybe 2000?). The Morning paper said the turnout was disappointing. All I could see in the photos was empty chairs.
The counts at these things are done with hard data. People come and go constantly, but they are encouraged to sign in. That gives you a hard count, not a snap-shot estimate.
That is confirmed by the law enforcement people, and by the number of vehicles that are present.
Please, if you must be a dope, find another venue to do it in.
Wow, lgm is super smart. Not only does he know more about global warming than 31,000 scientists, but he also knows the attendance numbers of a tea party better than the police that provided security.
the media is known for lying even more than politicians, so why would anyone in their right mind even listen to it??
as the old saying goes when the media speaks no one listens.
…or maybe 37,000? Or, maybe 50,000? Hey, if it was in Minnesota, and a Democrat event in a county of 5,000, it would have been a truthful reporting of the attendance of 100,000 strong (kind of like their voting rolls)!
MORON!
I would like to know what FoxNews excuse is to censor the activities of 2000 Tea Parties nationwide.
I sent an email to their comments email addy and it was returned with a email box full message so I doubt I was not the only one that is outraged with the news blackout by the state run news media.
Funny, you trust the MSM. Well knock me over with a feather.
Ragspierre said:
And you know this how? If it were sign-in data, it would come from the organizers, not the constable.
ScottyDog said:
Only five of then had more than ten people. The rest were in your head, like the 37,000 in Dallas (hint, it was ten times less).
Why do you come to this forum?
Someone has let the graduate assistants at the keyboard again.
Huh, the one here in SLC utah had far more than 10.
As did the rest in this state.
Thats 7 right there.
I would love to know where you get your information from because it doesn’t match what i have seen.
That feeling you get when you hear that? Thats fear. Thats the terror of your masters slide to defeat, kapo LGM.
I was there, stooooooooooopid. On the ground, signing in misef. You know…boots on the ground….?!?!?!
The law enforcement estimate is used to support the organizer’s claims, since self-satisfied prigs (mirror time, lgm) will question the organizer’s numbers as a matter of knee-jerk conformity to the STATIST meme.
Hope that clears up your confusion. As if…
Can you feel it starting to slip away LGM???
Can you???
Someone has let the
graduate assistantsgroundskeeper union steward at the keyboard again. You know; Boris.
lgm, believe what you want. Fire breathing dragons, tooth fairies, santa, whatever. In my little town of 20k two hundred people were there at any one time. By the way it is a VERY RED town.
helloooo? is this thing on?
Loud and clear back here in the cheap seats, Spacey…!!!
treedottie, you need some help girl, serious mental help…who says liberalism is not a mental illness? Just take a look at this ill person, it’s shame to waste a mind.
I wonder how creative the attendance count the MSM will tally at the grand pedophile God’s memorial service.
More than a Prez. More than the Pope I wager.
A mega-homage to a pedophile!
Such sick selective amnesia too many people have! No wonder Barney gets away with it, with a cherry on top!

curious why do you people waste your time, ink and paper on this idiot called lgm, is he really worth the effort to reply, he could care less what you say or think of him, after all he is a dead head liberal.
I know it helps to relieve that built up pressure from reading the illogical remarks by him and others, but do you think it really bothers him or them They get off by pissin’ you off and watch you burn your energy.
great to see the TP’s growing, trust me the left and the right know what’s happening throughout this great country…and it scare the hell out of them, just like Saraha resigning scares them.
lgm reminds me of Morbo from Futurama.
I laugh at your puny tea party! – lgm
“treedottie”?! I guess the id says it all, and the photo fits right in. Are you a “dottie” “tree”hugger? OR maybe just a “dottie” empty-headed blonde?
If you had a brain, you’d play with it!
Another “death” remark from the unhinged left.
You are so right..isright
! I can’t tell you how many times I have written my rebuttal to lgm and then logged out w/o having submitted it.
treehugger…just some advice on the picture you so proudly use on your ID…you might want to remove the “red eye” in your photo’s before posting. It only adds to the “unhinged” thing!
I bet treedottie hasn’t spent much time reading MMs blog or tried to figure out what the TPs are really all about. Too bad, so many just go along with the group…
I love it. The losers are crapping themselves that the Zero is turning out to be a giant BO08, and are starting to picture what fools they’re going to look like when cap and trade becomes “crash and burn” and OBoingocare melts down. He’s going to be a one-termer, and make Jimmy Carter look like a smashing success.
Not sure, but I am sure he was wrong again. But I do imagine all kinds of morning papers were disappointed anyone challenges their Words From On High.
I tried to count the heads from the pictures but quit at 23,007 cowboy hats, 1506 baseball caps, 723 bald spots and one really sharp main speaker–sorry.
Preliminary tally: 25,237
That’s just not good enough. Get back out there and count until you get the numbers we expect to find.
Oh. Sorry. I thought you were from Research 2000.
Tucson had 4,000 with Tammy Bruce as the Keynote speaker.
The MSM nor the Democrats OR the Republicans want to admit that there is a grass roots groundswell aginst “them”. They are in deep dodo and they know it. Both sides for the last 16years have gotten away with whatever they wanted. Those days are over. It is coming from the ground up and they don’t want to know a thing about it. They will ALL be replaced starting with the House and the Class III Senators in 2010. They will make sure over the next few months that they will be well taken care of by their cronies. Surprise!! We, the loud chattering class, right wing extremists, are on your doorstep and are going to help you pack….
Thanks, Sarahcuda, they don’t have a clue what you are doing………….
Yes Sir.
LOL, Ragspierre. I was actually wondering if lgm (or one of his familiars) could answer the other posters here…
But all I hear is katydids.
He’s good for batting practice. Helps sharpen our arguments for the real thing.

It would be nice, as others have mentioned, to have a tea party “centered” on D.C. …
… not to rain on anyone’s parade, but my wife and I were there (in D.C.) …
… with about 300-400 (buuuuuuuuuut for D.C.?!) other well-spirited folks.
What the hell is that treedottie chick wearing on her head? It looks like a cabbage leaf. Is that like a new hippie symbol to signify being “at one” with the earth? It reminds me of an old Kids in the Hall sketch where a guy had cabbage instead of hair.
Dick Armey’s Freedomworks PAC is putting one together. http://912dc.org/
he’s expecting a different result each time he comes in and does the same thing…isn’t that the definition of insanity? hmmmm
Tea Parties are nice as is
Second Amendment March is a national event to take place in April, 2010 in Washington, D.C. and other cities across America. The purpose is to remind the U.S. Government that it is our right to keep and bear arms, and that right shall not be infringed.
Register for the 9/12 TaxPayer March on DC!–Patriotic Resistance
Dick Armey’s Freedomworks does sound promising–this is where we retired folks can help–
irritateencourage people to participate. We can’t expect the working people to pull all the load–and no we have NOT done all we need to do–not as long as we can put one foot in front of our caneBut I like what I am seeing-yes sir/yes mam–BS Senator.
Maybe these are her salad days…
My question is: Does ms. treedottie’s Tweet constitute a threat against Michelle? Shooting fireworks into someone’s skull could be fatal. Wonder what the Dallas PD might think of such a statement against a public figure such as our own MM?
Personally, I would be careful of joining any events planned by any members of the current establishment (Dick Armey) I do not trust the staus quo. They are why we are in this mess and we need to find find fresh faces and voices who are unencumbered by the beltway mentality. IMHO.

I don’t believe you. Youn need evidence: a photo, a press report, … .
OK, folks. Let’s get some things straight. Unlike the lowlife lgm who wasn’t there, I was. In fact, I was the rank amateur running the camera onstage that became the primary feed during Michelle’s speech (technical problems with the Camera One out front). Michelle as a subject makes anyone with a camera look like they know what they’re doing.
)
First, nearly all the news media came through and were gone before 5:30pm to catch their deadlines. The hottest part of a very hot day (I was fried myself); most Texans know better, so there were maybe 2-3000 before 5pm. The place filled up fast after that and- by 7:30pm- the crowd was very impressive. I’ve heard it snidely said they came for the fireworks; a laugh, being there were city fireworks being shot off 4 miles down the street for free (South Fork entrance was free, but parking cost $10 per carload to help pay for the place). Also, I watched at least 1500 people start to leave after Michelle (the last speaker) finished. They were obviously there strictly for the political camaraderie.
All that said, I still think that the County Constable had double vision; me and a few other people came up with estimates that ranged between 15,000 and 20,000.
‘Only’ that many? Only 4-5 times larger than the last event held by the same group? On one of the hottest days of the year, with other events all around and located 6 miles out of any urban area? Boy, that has the sign of a dying movement, doesn’t it?
Nobody here cares what you believe.
That breaks my heart. Really.
Perhaps I might take that more seriously if you bothered to do the same.
Around St Louis we had heavy rain all day and it was disappointing to me. We’ve go to turn our country around before we become the United Socialist States of Organization of the Americas, Fidel, Raul, Daniel and Hugo Prop. in Association with The One.
All of the lies about no folks attending and that’s why no MSM coverage how many were with Cindy Sheehan in Crwford that got splashed across the entire continent? Seems to me there were 12 people, 6 dogs, 5 cats and 3 transient workers that were asking for directions.
Ragspierre said (#66):
I’ve been here long enough to know that if there were evidence someone would post it. No post = no evidence = it’s probably not true (people were there snapping pictures). The guy who was there thinks the constable was at least doubling the number.
Where is your link again?
I know its hard to face the fear, but this movement is growing.
You tin god is failing.
Hey. You know what? It does not matter what we post–numbers, evidence, photos, video…you would never accept it nor believe it.
Luke 11:24-26
And his inexpert estimate is superior to expert others’ estimates because….?
We all know the answer…it conforms to your bullspit.
Well, sorta… It gives the lie to everything your wrote earlier.
But, honey, eye-witness testimony is evidence.
LGM: Misinformed once more
Well, your first mistake is trusting the TV news and the newspaper.
Secondly, I heard about that too. I believe you saw empty chairs because the MSM didn’t arrive until late afternoon when most of the people had left.
“Guy who was there” = evidence????
LGM, did they teach you anything about the integrity at your tech school, or was it just another worship service for the left?
Here’s a math question for you, lgm. You’re a math teacher. You should be able to handle this.
Please calculate ten times less than 37,000.
