Mountain biking, kayaking, resting! In that order. Loving the bearable temperatures we are having in Virginia even though it is already July.
swimming today, surfing tomorrow.

Reading, leveling my EQ2 chars. Spending time with family
It is just a tad warm down here in S Tx, so I am staying inside to watch a good movie. I plan to send hubby out for rice noodles with chicken later when her gets home from the VFW meeting.
Y’all enjoy your evening.

While I’ve been working on my boat, I’ve been wondering if lgm still would be for affirmative action if Sotomayer had instead decided that those of Jewish lineage were never to be promoted – in fact, those of Jewish lineage should be taken away. Of course she’s a wise latina woman so we know no such thing would ever happen. Further, we know obama certainly would never think such things – he has said he’s for equality – not equality of opportunities, rather equality of outcomes. Of course, when we consider that some won’t/can’t/don’t achieve much, we must stop achievers from achieving.
I ran across this little noted news article somewhere in the recesses of my jaded thought processes:
Following the swearing in of Al Franken, the Democrat Senators passed out big floppy shoes, ping-pong ball noses and chased one another around the Senate chambers in a mad cap dash spraying one another with seltzer bottles. After an hour of this, they all convened in a nearby parking garage to see how many of them could squeeze into a smart car. Finding that unwieldy, they then commandeered a large Tahoe, finding that much more commodious they were able to stuff 16 of themselves into the gas guzzler – discovering in the process that only 5 would fit if they insisted on including their overstuffed heads.
After a drive around the Capitol filled, no doubt, with high jinx aplenty, they reconvened in the Senate chambers to deal even more frivolously with such matters as Cap&Trade and Universal Health Care.
Wiping a painted tear from below his left eye, Happy Harry Reid, fighting back chuckles was overheard to say “We needed a little break from all this nonsense about actually reading the bills under consideration….after all, what clown actually reads anything.” His other comments were interrupted by MadCap Chuckles Shoomer dowsing Ried with a bucket filled with confetti.
In keeping with their newly found mirth, a bill was introduced to explore the feasibility of the installation of a steam calliope near the President Pro Tem’s seat.
Getting clothes, gear, etc., ready for baby #4 due in two weeks!

British Open next week. Hopefully Paddy will defend his title.
Finished putting the drive-line back in the old ‘Burbon this morning before it got too hot.
Recording Rush’s R-30 concert onto DVD, watching Neal Peart’s moves…wondering what I could do now if I had continued playing instead of raising children.
Later today, will mess with people and do a little revolution…in that order…or not.
May add to my carbon footprint by grilling a steak and making a potato.

I heartily recommend this series for any conservative or other interested in why our machine is broken.
I think it will explain a lot I can only allude to in a post.
vsatt,
What wonderful news! I hope you and baby vsatt will do well and are healthy.

Im posting links to all the terrific stimulus spending
Some crazy stuff
Umpiring, going to my brother-in-laws retirement from the Army party (29 1/2 years!!), sending the boy off to scout camp and more umpiring!!
My brother-in-law served in Iraq for almost a year…we are all eternally grateful to him!!
Fixing our dryer. It’s amazing how a decade’s worth of lint can start to catch fire.
Having a lazy Sat morning after a long week at work. Husband and daughter are going to a Mozart Under the Moonlight outdoor concert tonight while I take my son to Drums Along the Rockies with some of his marching band friends.
It should be a great night, if the thunderstorms are timed right.
Tomorrow is housework followed by a family birthday party.
slow weekend here so far. Trying to avoid doom & gloom overload, unsuccessfully.
I think bloggers and people who are concerned for this country should continue to expose the lunacy of the federal government, but should turn and focus our energy on the changing the state governments, which may be our only hope for stopping this train wreck, since the states have the power, when in sufficient number, to change the constitution, etc.
Coughing, hacking, reading, writing. Coughing some more. Whining about it on Michellle Malkin’s website. Pesky summer cold.
I’m spending Saturday afternoon scratching my head and trying to come up with a logical reason why the people of Minnesota would put a clown on the floor of the Senate to represent Joseph Stalin and the state of Minnesota.
Recovering from my 11 year old son’s sleepover.
8 boys, 16 Nerf guns, Nerf bullets ALL over my house.
It’s AWESOME!!!
Oh yeah, now I’m relaxing w/ The 5000 Year Leap.
Awesome book!
Well, last weekend I was camping in the mountains, skipping rocks and plunging into the creek from a bridge and rope swing. This weekend, I’m just making neutrons.
Today’s book recommendation.
Whenever I recommend a book that I think might be of interest to most of the people who contribute to this blog, I often wonder if anyone does that much reading anymore. Here’s hoping.
Today’s book recommendation is of a wonderful, really full- length (1143 pages including notes and index) biography of Ludwig von Mises by Jorg Guido Hulsmann — Mises: the Last Knight of Liberalism. I was enthralled not only by the story of this great economist, but of the fascinating (and frequently terrifying) social, political, and intellectual history that his life intersected with. This includes the history of modern “conservatism” (a term he did not appreciate). In other words, the long struggle between the religious National Review types and the more classical liberal/libertarians. If you would like to know why modern conservatism (again, I regret the word as much as von Mises would have but we are stuck with it) is in such disarray, this is the book for you.
I also wanted to give von Mises’s view on Atlas Shrugged since the book I’m told continues to be of influence The quote below is from a letter he wrote to Rand (January 1958):
Plugging a few more items from the blogs I maintain:
Arab/Islamic hoodlums are committing sexual harrassment against students in the vicinity of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
Look at this news of how DC Comics and it’s apparently dhimmi president are going to allow a “teamup” or a “meeting” between heroes of the DCU and the alleged heroes of an Islamic comic called “The 99″. See, given the chance, DC Comics’ publishers can be as bad as Marvel Comics’ publishers, possibly worse.
Here is a video I posted of a playthrough of Robo Army. Plenty of metallic mayhem and fun!
Mowing the grass before the thunderboomers arrive. And watching the Louis Armstrong biography on the Ovation channel.
banking, cleaning up my condo for my renter to come tomorrow.
Hoping my White Sox can take 2 of 3 from the hated Minnesota Twins.
Now hated even more, thanks to thier clown senator.
Getting excited that I finally figured out how to do a link thingy, and reading an article on health care in the WSJ journal that has a misleading title. Half of the money will come from slashing Medicare payment schedules.
Thar’s rationing in that thar bill!
took the dog for a training walk. she hates everything, cars, bikes, kids, strollers, mailmen, etc. Went to breakfast then to the cemetery to say a rosary for the unborn. Talked to my son in Iraq for a couple of minutes. He is doing good, it’s just getting real hot over there. Tried to help a friend with her computer (told her to get a MAC). Watching one of my favorite movies now, For the Love of the Game. Resting……..
“Half of the money will come from slashing Medicare payment schedules.”
Those of us who work in health care are WAY more disturbed by that than anything else. Yes, all the other stuff is disturbing. However cutting medicare as is being discussed is a killer. My opinion is the public in general has no idea as to the damage cutting medicare as is being proposed will cause.
Reading, napping, going to Mr. Durangodarlin’s retirement party this evening, and wondering why we have a government that encourages and promotes class envy, and “goes after” big business.
Taking it easy. Watching whatever racing there is, on TV. Going from a 8 hour workday starting at 0730, to a 1200 10-hour workday Monday. Body is going to whine over late hours. I’ll appreciate it, come Friday morning, when I can sleep in. Could use some of that rain, JSHII.
Working. Trying to catch fraudsters before they make off with everyone’s life savings. Hoping against hope that Phoenix gets some rain, ’cause it’s so hot here right now the potholders I use to drive with are complaining.
Sounds like you all have some great weekend activities! (except for our fellow poster w/a cold – hope you feel better)
Swim lessons for the kids today in the a.m., followed by cheerleader signups for my little girl. This evening, we’ll be attending an “East coast-style luau” (teriyaki instead of pig roast
) to honor college graduates @ our church.
Tomorrow, church, then to a Civil War re-enactment w/the family, then p.m. church for communion.
Forget to add that I see Frank Ricci, the Conn. fireman, is now the replacement for Palin for the left’s ire. It doesn’t surprise me that, once again, emotion replaces logic, in the left’s agenda. That’s because they know little of the real world, and have to rely on anger to put forth their illogic.
making progress on home repairs and then going out for sushi…grilling tomorrow.
Question: If you come home with a paper cup (from a fast food place, a mini-mart, wherever) do you empty it before throwing it in the trash can? My wife and kids DON’T and it drives me crazy!!! They wouldn’t pour a glass of water into the can, why put the remnants of their drink in there??? It’s just a small pet peeve.
took boys to Air & Space Museum, minature golf, worship team at church, hitting up a CD release party of an awesome hardcore christian pro-life band Hope At Hand check them out at http://www.myspace.com/hopeathand they have a great pro-life song called Decades of Night & finally working to defeat the culture of death in america
Kids and grand kids gone on vacation = catch up on reading day. Been on a history binge of late.
Hoping to finish Stephen Ambrose’s “Undaunted Courage” today. It’s a Lewis & Clark biography, but with a focus on Meriwether Lewis and the Jefferson political agenda of national expansionism. I’d always assumed Lewis came up with the plan and had to lobby Jefferson and Congress to get it approved. It was the opposite.
Read McCullough’s flagship “John Adams” bio a while ago, and the different angle on the Jefferson / Adams feud in Undaunted is interesting. The narrative of the expedition is awesome.
If you don’t like reading history, try Stephen Ambrose. Writes history like novels and brings the characters, cultures and times to life.
Recovering from yet another knee surgery.
Contemplating my next single malt purchase.
I just got done with yard work and then I will be off to the gym….
Getting the windmill going; replacing all of my incandescent light bulbs; converting my vehicles, home and swimming pool over to solar power and heating; making a purchase of a new tire pressure gauge; apologizing for living in America, Please forgive me!
Ahh, the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Lost 2 games of Monopoly Jr. to my boys.
Reading a few more chap. in The 5000 Year Leap., then we’re heading to the pool!
Driving and training.
Victorville, Ca to Salinas, Ca
Salinas to Fontana, Ca
Colton, Ca to Clarksville, Ar
Russellville, Ar to Victorville, Ca
Okay, that will carry me beyond the weekend. Should actually put me back in Victorville sometime around Thursday or Friday morning. But since my boredom is getting the better of me at the moment…
Home after my Kung Fu martial arts practice, getting a haircut and picking up some groceries.
One week until my test from 1st Degree Black Belt to 2nd Degree Black Belt. I’m ready for it and want it get here so I can get it over with.
Watching the Dems launch their personal attacks on the firefighters. As with Joe the Plumber, we citizens better be careful if any of us dare to challenge the liberal establishment.
In my new activism:
Wrote a letter to (possibly what used to be) my favorite charity. Their homepage included a banner link to change.org. (These days, words ‘hope’ or ‘change’ turn me into that Abbott and Costello skit of “slowly I turn….”. )
Checked out the site…all the standard lib/progressive BS – deeply disappointing. So, I wrote..practiced my diplomacy. Before that spent the morning with Mr.K trying to fill-in under an eroded storm drain on our property. Worked till the sweat stung our eyes, bees had their fill and chiggers caught their ride. Tonight, it’s Italian!
CHL renewal class…followed by field stripping and cleaning the 1911 and admiring the target.
I just got back from lunch with my out-of-town daughter. She is going through a traumatic divorce. Very emotional day. It is sunny and warm today…another perfect day in Minnesota. Minnesota has great weather, but don’t tell anyone!! I want them to think we are in the frozen tundra and all live in igloos. Except for our nutty politicians, this is a pleasant place to live, especially if you are retired. I haven’t had time to read all the other comments yet, but when I do, I will be back!
shopping, cleaning, cooking, grilling and missing my kids.
I loved “Undaunted Courage”.
*Cut the lawn with my gas mower; Can’t afford goats, so screw you Spotted Owl Bore; Then it’s NASCAR and reading!
beenthere: I for one still devour books; It is a lost art; Always keep 3 or 4 locked and loaded for enjoyment; I believe in the Austrian Economics espoused by Mises, and for me, it starts with the FairTax; If only the GOP would pick it up and run with it.
Putting ex Wife and Daughter on a Cruise ship to Mexico……
hehe
Hmmmm, maybe ehe ex will get swine flu, ok, that’s harsh, maybe just the trots…….
Bluegrass in St Louis this evening-
not bothering with the free Sheryl Crow concert under the Arch. Obama can keep her.
Also, chords D F and C, writing new words to ‘Ohio’- except for the Neda line-
‘what if you knew her and found her dead on the ground’ uncanny.
Most of all today, I’m wishing that obama would stay in his homeland.
Mowed the lawn, a little shopping, and then went to a Squadron Party out at the local Air Force Base. Had a great time, now lying around complaining that we both ate too much so no barbeque tonight. Tomorrow we might go into Boise and increase the pantry stores for the rapidly approaching “Great Depression II” by loading up at Costco along with a trip to the Temple of Man (or as it is properly named, Cabela’s). It’s time to start getting ready for hunting season, nothing like a tasty Elk in the freezer to help get through another long winter. Have a great weekend everyone!
Just now on FB!
Hints at Palin starting a true Conservative Party!
I’ve got goosebumps…SERIOUSLY!
http://www.sarahpac.com/news/news51.aspx
O.K. I just read the comments so far. I am struck by the incredible “normalcy” of the great, patriotic conservatives on this thread who are spending a typical weekend day doing the same kinds of things that I do. It really warmed my heart and made me smile to read the comments. I also had some great laughs. You guys can write!! A few thoughts;
Congratulations, and keep those conservatives babies coming! Thank you.
Be grateful your house didn’t burn down. That lint can be very dangerous! Everyone, go check the lint in your dryer, right now. I’ll wait.
Booooo…hissss!!!
Good luck to your daughter…my oldest was a cheerleader all through H.S. and she loved it!!!
It is time to give those a$$hats a taste of their own medicine!! Someone who is able to do some digging should find some dirt on the ones doing the harrassment, and turn the tables on them. Broadcast their skeletons for all to see. Put it on every blog you can. They have to be taken down!!
My husband is up north at our cabin and he called to tell me he just caught his first walleye on the Gull River. That is a serious catch, as they are rare in that neighborhood.
Everyone enjoy the rest of your Saturday and your Sunday!! I plan to spend a lot of it in the garden.
The most awesome people on earth are found on Michelle Malkin’s blog.

Sorry, just one more comment. I had a feeling Sarah Palin had this in mind when she “quit” the Governorship. I really did!! She is going to lead the way out of our mess. Go Sarah!!
Made sourdough pancakes and bacon this am, rotating laundry on the line, weeded the garden, finished Common Sense and started Liberty and Tyranny, cleaned old canning jars.
We just had a rain/thunder storm here in Grand Junction. Glad I was between loads of laundry.
Also, just created some M&M’s to send to Truxton Station on Route 66 to the guy who gave me 3 gals. of water when I was having problems driving home last month. He didn’t charge me a thing. Still good people in the world!
Oh, I almost forgot, listining to local am radio this afternoon, Josh Penry thru his hat in the ring for R nominee for Governor. Glad to hear, as he is very conservative. Need to oust Ritter and his socialist clan.
It’s birthday palooza for my daughter who is turning 32 tomorrow…a day filled with bowling, and then Sunday, swimming, manicotti, jello cake and
RockBand!
Hey twofoot, is Victorville home? Just curious as if so you are about an hour SE of me.
Cool to see a local if so.
As for me a regular relaxing Saturday. Washed the truck and motorcycle.
Later this evening it’s UFC time! Watch Lesnar whip Mir. There will be no ankle locks this time to save Mir!
Found out that only the plastic undercarriage guard is holding up the radiator in my 97 Crown Vic! The bottom support must have rotted away and fell off at some point. Hanger wire…
I’ve been looking through the archives of this site. Some of the posters are still around, but most aren’t. It’s striking to me to read the important issues of say 5 years ago. Wow, so much has happened since then.
If it’s the first weekend of the month that doesn’t involve a holiday, then it must be my one weekend a month for drill or the Unit Training Assessment (UTA) as it is officially known with the Air National Guard.
I’ve been assisting my airmen in installing a VHF/UHF ATC radio and a LMR in a vehicle for the SOF. In between that we attended SABC.
Are those enough acronyms yet?
Translation: We installed a radio to talk to airplanes and one for command & control in the vehicle for the supervisor of flying. We also went to a first aid course.
Tomorrow will be more of the same.
Now it’s time for NASCAR.
Green! Green! Green!
Washing Meatloaf, the stinking Basset Hound. UGH!
I’ve also found those large plastic ties work great for backyard engingineering.
When I drove trucks they called duct tape “90 MPH tape”, but research found it routinely gave out at 60 to 70.
Good luck with the Vic. Great old car, and massive carbon emmissions. Well done.
I’m well into week #6 offshore west Australia, trying to get rig repairs done so I can hand the rig over to another operator. Hopefully I’ll get to hand things off to some relief on Thursday, home in Houston on Friday (if I make all 5 connections), 9 days of getting reacquainted with my family, then off to another rig in Libya for a month.
Y’all go drive around a bit this weekend and keep me in business…
Could y’all please drop some rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, East coast and California coast so we can generate CO2 with our own oil. Thanks.
*Washington Times reports Sarah Palin will campaign for conservative candidates nationwide leading up to November 2010; I say throw down the gauntlet and go 3rd party with a center-right platform; That will put the fear of God into the rat bastards of both parties that currently occupy D.C.!; Call it the Independent Party(Independent of Party, United for Liberty).
*At the very least she should campaign in Arizona for Chris Simcox to primary McCain out; Sweeeeet!
The Obamessiah says the Porkulus Package is working!!
He said “It has already extended unemployment insurance and health insurance to those who have lost their jobs in this recession,” Obama, who is traveling today in Ghana, said in his weekly Saturday radio and Web address. Here is a link

Without a doubt he is clueless about the definition of stimulus, but unfortunately 51% of the voters are just as clueless and will agree with him.
Selfishly speaking, as a rig supervisor, I prefer working overseas. Working domestically means twice the work at half the money (not to mention the obvious decrease in frequent flyer mileage). Not that I wouldn’t prefer to see us exploiting OUR natural resources. I just don’t want to be the fella running the rig…
Spent the weekend typing my Senior Project, and the rough draft is almost done (16 pages plus and counting).
Making my usual suggestion that LGM get banned and Blindmule invited back.
Getting ready to head to ETSU to finish 7 pre req courses this fall and apply to four Speech Language-Pathology graduate schools starting 2010-2011.
And of course doing my best to increase my carbon foot print to irk the trolls and the KBPOTUS-bots.

July 3rd, I bought the second copy I’ve owned of Atlas Shrugged. Read it first at 16. Oddly, I don’t recall all the love scenes from the first reading years ago – but did pick up on the political implications at that age. Ayn’s thoughts stay with you. I’m now rereading it for the 2nd time in less than a week and if you want a real live update on what’s happening/or could happen in this country, run to your nearest bookstore or Costco (paperback $15.69 and a bargain at over 1100 pages). I read a lot, sometimes two books a week. Don’t own a library card. Never read a book I didn’t want to own forever. The rest I can find on the ‘net.
My wife and I saw Public Enemies and Transformers today.
Both are great, but I have to say… seeing Transformers in anything less than IMAX HD format is for peons. Peons, I tells ya!
I watched the NBC spot of Obama and his family in Accra touring the slaving prison, after the Pres. there was a spot on American Africans touring there, a Black docent describing conditions and of course strongly emoting all the way.
It occured to me that the docents’ ancestors are who originally enslaved the ancestors of the tourists, imprisoned them in Accra and subsequently sold them to ship captains, it also occurs to me that the decendents of the enslavers are still using the decendents of those they enslaved for their own purpose.
Yeah, this is really the only explanation that answers the Palin enigma. The prospect is awesome. Conservatives jumping the GOP ship in droves! She’s going down…Abandon ship!! I was surprised to learn how many conservatives, like me, are already registered as independent. It’s a huge group, and I think most would jump on a true conservative movement.
Only question would be if she has the gravitas to be the flagship for a new movement. Personally, I’d be onboard. No better prospects on the horizon, and would make a powerful statement that needs to be made.
Go Cuda!
Hmmm… what I’m doing today. Insanely trying to sell my house in this market, but had a showing today. Pretty darn good considering it’s only been up for 4 days and I have no real estate agent. On another insane front, two of my nephews are sleeping over, ages 7 and 5, with my 6 year old son and 9 year old daughter.
All in all, I think it’s been a pretty insane day and will probably be a little more insane tonight — at least until I declare it bedtime!
Hope everyone else is having as delightful a weekend!
vsatt, congrats!
Anyone else notice it seems to be “AP flinging crap against the wall weekend”?
CIA, Cheney!!!
First is was Joe the Plummer, now it’s Frank the Firefighter:
Sotomayor backers urge reporters to probe New Haven firefighter
biked over some hills & got rained on — which never happens in silicon valley in the summer.
I’m curious where all that concern for fallen soldiers went, now that Jacko is off the front pages. One might think that our soldiers’ deaths were used for political purposes. The NYTimes publishes their names as always, which is a fitting show of respect.
While walking across a parking lot on my way to our town’s annual Rhythm on the River I saw a disturbing bumper sticker. It said: Jesus who? What would Obama do?
Don’t be a tool. Especially about fallen soldiers. If you can’t just say thank you nicely, shut your trap.
Tennessee Dave sad to say I understood every one of them. I guess being around the United States Air Force for most of my 52 years on planet Earth has had an impact.
it wasn’t rain lgm, it was God peeing on you for being such a tool.
Happy, thanks! She attended a cheer camp this summer w/a couple of her little friends who have been doing it for a while. She really seemed to like it, and she was cute as a button!!
Had a 10th B-Day swim party for my youngest. I am exhausted.
Canning figs and tomatoes from the garden. We have tons this year.
Looks like two more ethics complaints have been filed against Sarah Palin.
Even after she’s been forced out from having to defend herself from these bogus attacks, they still won’t stop.
I wonder the Soros-bots will do once she’s actually no longer governor.
Sounds a lot like Fair Game

Throw one of the kids in the trash bin along with his cup. The others will come around in no time.
OK, #93, so what’s your point?
Multiple horse events at the county fair. My son, the teenager who rides horse due to the number of girls, decided to show for the first time this year. He’s also extremely competitive. He managed to win some ribbons….but he couldn’t beat the girls he wanted to in competition. Maybe next year.
Meanwhile, my daughter, who is younger and has ridden longer, cleaned up with several blue and red ribbons, and one trophy, so she’s happy.
My wife is frazzeled due to spending the week at fair trying to coordinate everything.
I’m about done being support staff.
Yes it’s been a long week, but fun anyway.
Please tell him thank you for his service.
Since this is an open thread, I have a question.
Why is it the left, when it comes to abortion, demands we keep our hands off her body if those opposed suggest it should be outlawed.
…yet they have no problem with this massive new socialized health plan?
This isn’t a question of the government being involved in a single abortion, but having a hand in any medical procedure you might need.
I’m curious why they demand it be legal to kill unborn children and then scream when children they haven’t killed don’t have health care.
