The deafening MSM silence over eco-zealot/forced abortion advocate John Holdren

On Friday, I spotlighted the devastating reporting on Obama “science czar” John Holdren posted at zombietime and featured it as the lead story all weekend.
Refresher on Holdren’s eco-zealous views:
• Women could be forced to abort their pregnancies, whether they wanted to or not;
• The population at large could be sterilized by infertility drugs intentionally put into the nation’s drinking water or in food;
• Single mothers and teen mothers should have their babies seized from them against their will and given away to other couples to raise;
• People who “contribute to social deterioration” (i.e. undesirables) “can be required by law to exercise reproductive responsibility” — in other words, be compelled to have abortions or be sterilized.
• A transnational “Planetary Regime” should assume control of the global economy and also dictate the most intimate details of Americans’ lives — using an armed international police force.
WND follows up here.
Jim Treacher notes that Holdren featured Ecoscience, his book of pro-forced abortion eugenics rantings, in his curriculum vitae.
Zombie has an update responding to claims that Holdren renounced his views. He has not:
You might argue that this book was written in a different era, during which time a certain clique of radical scientists (including Holdren) were in a frenzy over what they thought was a crisis so severe it threatened the whole planet: overpopulation. But, you could say, all that is in the past, an embarrassing episode which Holdren might wish everyone would now forget. I mean, people change their opinions all the time. Senator Robert Byrd was once in the KKK, after all, but by now he has renounced those views. Perhaps in a similar vein John Holdren no longer believes any of the things he wrote in Ecoscience, so we can’t hold them against him any more.
Unfortunately, as far as I’ve been able to discover, Holdren has never disavowed the views he held in the 1970s and spelled out in Ecoscience and other books. In fact, he kept writing on similar topics up until quite recently.
The closest Holdren has come to retracting any of these statements was in a single sentence he spoke during his confirmation hearings. Under questioning from Senator David Vitter, Holdren did backpedal a bit concerning a different statement he made in the ’70s about government-controlled population levels…
…I’m not sure just how seriously we should take a statement made by someone during what is essentially a job interview. A few words spent reassuring the interviewer that you don’t really believe all those things you spent thirty years elaborating in detail — what else should we expect? That Holdren would say, Yes, I think the government should lower the U.S. population down to 280 million? Of course he wouldn’t say that during the interview, despite what he may or may not really believe internally.
But yes, it is possible that Holdren has changed his views and his philosophy. Yet we’ll never know until he announces his change of heart publicly. And so I say:
I challenge John Holdren to publicly renounce and disavow the opinions and recommendations he made in the book Ecoscience; and until he does so, I will hold him responsible for those statements.
Don’t look to the MSM for coverage of Holdren’s radicalism.
Instead, you’ll find the NYTimes making hay of Obama’s NIH pick. Why? Because he’s an evangelical Christian.
If eugenics-obsessed Holdren was a Republican, MSM (and the DHS!) would be all over him.
Double standards? What double standards? Bias? What bias?

O NOES.
I KAN HAS OPPOZING OPINYUN?
Idiots. Stay on top of them, Michelle.
Sounds like this guy should be Zero’s “Mengele Czar.”
As I recall, the media had a major hissy fit because Bush’s first Attorney General wrote an article for a magazine that was viewed as insufficiently hostile to the Confederacy.
But an Obama appointee advocating forced abortion and involuntary sterilization? Nope, nothing to see here.
Searching for the “perfect race”, like Hitler.
I suppose the “desireables” would have bottled water and separate food sources.
But, didn’t some radical, feminist, liberal “researchers” prove that single mothers can raise children just as well as traditional families?
Lemme guess, people like Christian, Conservative, gun-owning, Repulican, NRA members.
That’s been the dream of every looney, leftwing liberal since Lyndon Johnson. John “F-ing” Kerry said that he believed our military should be controlled by the UN (Useless Nitwits).
“What’s that monkey got, that I ain’t got?” “A longer tail.”
- Curly and Moe (HEALTHY, WEALTHY, AND DUMB, 1938)
Why should he renounce his views? Just like William Ayers, I’m sure that he regrets not doing more.
But no matter. At least he doesn’t support shamnesty, and that’s all that matters, right?
He’s an evangelical Christian?
No he’s not.
“Did you see where I almost went?!” “No, but I know where you oughta go.”
- Curly and Moe (HOW HIGH IS UP?, 1940)
liberals have always been the biggest racist. boston and new york were the last mlb teams to integrate. looong after dr martin luther king marched in birmingham and arkansas was integrated by bussing, they were having race riots and forced integration in boston, and race riots in l.a., and race riots in detroit, and forced integration in chicago and… gee, whoda thunk.
don’t forget those Independents!!
Whenever I read about Holdren, in the backgound I can quietly hear men singing the Horst Wessel Lied.
So does that mean he believes in global cooling?
Any belated disavowal now by Holdren will come off as being as sincere as Obama’s denial that he heard the Rev. Wright most incendiary sermons.
This one reason bho is putting people into ‘czar’ positions. NO one can stop him, congress, or voters. There has got to be a way to put a stop to this maddness by bho. Can lawyers find some way to do this?
L
He’s a responsible man. He favors equipping the ovens at the camp for undesireables with carbon scrubbers.
I actually think they’re pretty consistent. They hate Christians, they favor eugenics and they will do or say anything that advances their agenda.
Wasn’t sure which New York team (or teams) that you were referring to, but the Brooklyn Dodgers were the first team to break the race barrier when Jackie Robinson joined the team in 1947.
How about mandatory sterilization for Leftists?
I’d support that in a heartbeat….
….although my knees would wear out from doing penance for that belief in contrast to my church teachings.
And in the words of Archie Bunker, “changed the whole complexion of the game.”
We should deport this guy to China, where he’d obviously be more comfortable.
madshark and ragman, yes, the senior circuit integrated rapidly after wwII. the yankees and the red sox integrated in the 60’s or 70’s. while curt flood was fighting over whether mlb players were property or people, the yanks and red sox were still fighting over whether blacks were people or property.
And I would not BEGIN to believe him even if he did.
Not, at least, until he spent some years writing and arguing AGAINST the collective.
The Yankees integrated in 1955, still eight years after Robinson. By that time, the promotion of Elston Howard was greeted with a great big ho-hum.
That reminds me, I just heard about this kind of things last week. Sounds like they already have a start on that.
MM was wrong last week and is wrong again today. Holdren was not advocating forced abortion. He was stating the obvious fact that governments might resort to it if more humane population control mechanisms were not found.
MM might acknowledge that Holdren’s predictions came true. China adopted some pretty strong population control measures. Fortunately, people like Holdren and Erlich helped convince people to control population growth in less draconian ways.
this guy ought to be drug out behind the wood shed and have the “genes” beat out of him…I don’t men lgm as big of an irritant as he can be.
lgm is posting…
so lies are on the thread.
Holdren was not predicting…
He was advocating.
My prediction.
Barrel-fish shooting…
But still good.
If millions can cross the border illegally and have as many kids as they want, I guess it’s my duty to limit the number of kids I produce.
I don’t think so, Tim.
Hey! lgm pre-empted my prediction of his post.
Concur.
lgm, I opened the article completely open to the idea that you were right. Not even close. Silly me.
Lessee…just as a little thought experiment…
Imagine Rush Limbaugh “predicting” anything of the kind.
Knowing that talk radio is often accused by the lgm collectivists as being inciters to violence for having the temerity to criticize the Collective, just think how likely it would be that lgm would leap to Limbaugh’s defense for his “prediction”.
Funny.
He believes that the Government should decide who’s baby lives and whose baby dies.
Just like in China today, and just like in Nazi Germany.
We know that, lgm. That’s why he isn’t morally fit for his job.
If you want to know who this fellow is, read the text of this speech from 2006.
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/319/5862/424
Then look at the bottom of where he is getting the data for his positions. Every radical, discredited study from the most looney authors and groups in the world were used as the foundation for the positions in his speech. This guy is a total whack job.
While most conspriacy theories tend to be just that, theories, there are so many DOCUMENTED extremists surrounding Obama that it has become difficult to ignore these theories.
Ragspierre said (#34):
Limbaugh predicts nutty things every time I listen (maybe once a week). Sharia law, Nazi or Communist (or both) takeover, etc. We’ve grown used to it.
You could replace the word “overpopulation” with the crisis de jour and the statement would be just as true. Whether it is overpopulation, DDT, global cooling, ozone depletion, acid rain, or global warming, the Left is always pointing to some crisis on the horizon to justify their desire to destroy individual liberty and exert control over all mankind. They refuse to let a crisis go to waste — especially one they’ve worked so hard to manufacture.
The Left has predicted the end of the world as we know it many times in the past. (And Global Warming is not the first time they claimed scientific consensus.) The problem is none of their prophecies of gloom and doom have ever come to pass. Yet they never apologize when they’re wrong. Instead, they count on the next generation being ignorant of history so they can cry wolf again without consequences.
Their motive is not to save the world. In fact they would welcome a disaster that would reduce the population:
What they really want is power. They’re control freaks who want to micromanage the world. Holdren is one of many on the left who thinks he can run your life better than you can. These are the people who are most attracted to government and who are always calling for a global authority to consolidate their power and enforce their agenda. Here are a few examples of when they have let slip their true agenda:
That’s all ya got?
You get called out on being dead wrong on here, and all ya got is the fact that Limbaugh frequently “predicts nutty things?”
Ewww… Kuel…
Then you should have NOOOOOO problem providing quotes…IN CONTEXT…to support your BS assertions.
BTW, is it your contention that there is no move to impose shari’a on the US? Just a YES or NO, please.
Is it your claim that fascist economic policy is NOT being employed in the US right now? Just a YES or NO, please.

Ever hear of Cass Sunstein, FOO (friend of Obama)?
Read the piece a cited above.
Another THE ONE Brown Shirt BIG BRO minister. This time, minister of NOT information.
He’s in favor of revising libel law so that people like Michelle can be sued willy-nilly for reporting on PUBLIC people (read: politicians).
That would make the Fairness Doctrine look like a walk in the park.
And that dear friends will usher in Al Gore’s next run at political office.
Papa Louie said (#38):
“Global cooling” was declared a possible problem in one Time Magazine article in the seventies. That article presumably was a journalist’s misunderstanding of what some scientist said.
The others all are real problems. Acid rain (just one example) destroyed lakes and forests up and down the east coast. Ozone depletion was halted (though not yet reversed) by international agreements. In each case, the nay-sayers were on the wrong side of science and history.
corkie said (#39):
Dearie, you telling my I’m wrong is not the same as me being wrong. Holdren did not advocate forced abortion. Statements like: “There will be forced abortions” are not advocacy.
You being wrong IS the same as you being wrong. And you is wrong!
You stated;
He was doing much more than that. You were wrong.
Presumably? Were you living under a rock back then? America was being widely warned about global cooling. There was no misunderstanding. For you to suggest otherwise is laughable.
More BS, lgm.
“In the [1980s] science series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, physicist Carl Sagan warned of catastrophic cooling through the burning and clear cutting of forests. He postulated that the increased albedo of the Earth’s surface might lead to a new ice age. He also mentioned that this may be counteracted and overcome by the release of greenhouse gases. Cosmos was a popular series on public television and was often shown in elementary, junior and senior high schools in the United States.”
and
The Newsweek article concluded by criticizing government leaders: “But the scientists see few signs that government leaders anywhere are even prepared to take the simple measures of stockpiling food or of introducing the variables of climatic uncertainty into economic projections of future food supplies…The longer the planners (politicians) delay, the more difficult will they find it to cope with climatic change once the results become grim reality.” The article emphasized sensational and largely unsourced consequences – “resulting famines could be catastrophic”, “drought and desolation,” “the most devastating outbreak of tornadoes ever recorded”, “droughts, floods, extended dry spells, long freezes, delayed monsoons,” “impossible for starving peoples to migrate,” “the present decline has taken the planet about a sixth of the way toward the Ice Age.”
With your credibility at record lows, why are you even here?
I’ve been in virtually every state, and certainly every state on the Eastern Seaboard. I have never seen a “destroyed forest or lake”…anywhere…caused by acid rain.
But, please, use GOOGLE Earth and find us “destroyed lakes and forests”.
And…we’re waiting for your IN CONTEXT Limbaugh quotes…
No, it wasn’t. The dynamic polar ozone “holes” have been around forever. Embarrassed scientists are NOW trying to claim that depletion has been halted.
BTW, 20 years from now, a few scientists will attempt to claim that global warming was halted by Cap-and-Trade.
A little-told fact: Ozone depletion was halted when, in 1973, I did a nakked moonlight “wogga-booga” dance in an undisclosed location. I can prove it…using the same “cause-effect” employed by enviro-whacks.
BTW, I saved 1,124,327.3 jobs today.
Um, LGM, the one I read was from Newsweek, 1975. But that’s not my main point. When I was in college (the first time) I had an environmental science prof that taught us that there was the possibility of an upcoming ice age. Now, he didn’t flail his arms and screem it from the rooftops, but what was an accredited science professor doing saying anything about it at all if it wasn’t true? That was in 1992.
BTW, 20 years from now, a
few scientistsscientist wannabe called “lgm” will attempt to claim that global warming was halted by his really, really sincere call for Cap-and-Trade, coupled with his daily chant of the sacred “…consensus…scientific consensus…con–sen–sus…it will work for all of us…consensus…”OK we have a name: Carl Sagan. Look him up in wikipedia. He talked about nuclear winter and worried that the gulf war fires might cool the air. It was one guy and he took it back. There was no national academy report on global cooling.
Global cooling also have a wikipedia page. Check it out, wingnuts.
Everyone knows how Limbaugh talks. I’m not gonna pay for a freakin’ transcript.
Just like “everybody” knows whatever it is you are espousing.
Tuck tail, liar. Yer done…
lgm, 5 to 10 years from now your beloved AGW scientists will be characterized in the same fashion as you’re describing Carl Sagan.
Speaking of debunked, are you finally willing to admit reality regarding Mann’s hockey stick?
Population control is a liberal theory (including marxists & communists) that too many humans inhabiting the earth will take away resources and limit the pleasures of other humans. The only problem with this idea is…people die and need to be replaced, people need to be born in order to work and pay taxes, etc., so that liberals can continue to make up stuff like this.
Carl Sagan is dead. He did not fly off in a UFO.
LGM is a dip$h!t.
So was Sagan.
Zeroangel is not on this thread, which I find remarkable.
You don’t “freakin’” have to, professor.
You may not be able to get every minute for free, but if Rush really did speak as you say, you should have no problem finding some examples amongst the free transcripts.
Or on one or more of about a dozen web-sites that feature Rush hatred…
but, then, there would have been the necessity of SOME truth in the claim…
Amazon says this book is out of print, and there are no customer reviews or comments. Hmmm…
Where would one go to get a copy of this book?
Is this what you and those on the left ascribe to?
I forget exactly when this started, but I think sometime around the Babylonian Empire there were people groups who would sacrifice their newborns and children to idols.
This has happened several times in history…sacrificing the young to idols.
And now history is repeating itself – population control of the less desired, carbon emissions and global warming fear (CO2 makers),
nationalizedrationed healthcare, social experiments in homosexuality (which does not produce human beings), etc. – all of which point to a decrease in the numbers of people. So that was you? I am sorry, we thought you were a streaker.
We have John Holdren, Janet Napolitano and TOTUS-will the nakked moonlight “wogga-booga” dance make THEM go away? Could you teach it to lgm?
As to the first; it couldn’t hurt. We should try anything.
As to the second; I have serious doubts about any capacity to learn in lgm. As I have observed before here, voluntary idiocy is the very worst kind, and the only kind that involves culpability.
Oh please no.
‘Sheridan would be appalled.’
That wouldn’t be Mrs. Bucket’s (bu-kay) fine college ladd, would it?
You’re wrong, or you’re lying. Possibly both. If you read the scanned pages it’s obvious that he’s using the tone and verbiage of an advocate.
Global cooling was the subject of a lot more than one article in Time. In grammar school I was taught about how if we didn’t switch to solar power we’d be in a new ice age by the time I was old enough to vote. There was a whole display at the Hayden Planetarium in NYC showing what Manhattan would look like when the temperature dropped because of people not turning the lights off when they leave the room. Entire episodes of shows like “In Search of…” were given over to “the coming ice age”.
In short, talk of global cooling was nearly as common and hysterical in the 70’s as the global warming talk is now.
Really? Where? Show me one.
The problem with people like you (well, one problem at least)is that in your unreasoning zealotry you end up being the boy who cried wolf. If you do manage to hit on a legitimate environmental issue no one is going to listen because you have a track record of sounding like a lunatic.
Carl Sagan was nothing of the sort, and anyone who says that is advertising that they’ve never read anything he’s written. Or not understood it.
Was everything he said correct? Of course not. No one is right all the time. But Sagan took complex science and made it accessable to lay people, and his book “The Demon Haunted World” is an indispensable guide to the scientific method and ability to think critically. A lot of people here would profit greatly from reading it.
I wish the leftists could answer this question when they worry about population control. I have to agree with them too, whereas I don’t want the USA overcrowded with alot of legal or illegal immigrants. What good does it do to have forced abortions when you also advocate open borders and letting every third worlder into our borders? Here at one point this guy wants to control the population of Americans and yet import millions more of immigrants. I know I am right because Schumer told the president that he would have an immigration bill this year sometime.
Because for them changing the fundamental character and nature of America isn’t a bug… it’s a feature.
Me too!
In 1974, my 4th grade teacher subscribed to some weekly kids magazine for our class that taught reading concepts through current events.
I can remember reading how if humanity didn’t make changes from deforestation and towards more efficient energy use, Canada’s snow and ice belt would extend to the upper South within one hundred years!
And it will…we may have to wait 10k or 100k years…
So your teacher was right…like a broken geological clock…
Heh, I remember those cheesy magazines
jangar:
I am here now, better late than never I suppose. James has already set you straight, but this:
…is just plain dumb.
Sagan was a genius. You, on the other hand, believe dinosaurs and humans coexisted. There is a reason why Sagan was a famous scientist with a wikipedia entry and you are just a run-o-the-mill fundamentalist lunatic.
Just curious: What do you think of this?
I don’t want to start another creation vs. evolution thread, and the work linked doesn’t support either. What it does support is that there is more than ample evidence that the current history of the human race as defined in modern anthropology may be wrong. It does not attempt to disprove evolution, nor does it attempt to disporve creation.
There is one thing that it does suggest: humans like us may very well have coexisted with dinosaurs. If you disagree, read the book, or at least a synopsis. These guys aren’t nutjobs, and their work is very well researched and referenced.
Oh yeah,
Carl Sagan was a brilliant thinker and scientist. I watch Cosmos whenever the Science channel runs it. I don’t agree with all of his suppositions, but you probably realize that, as we have been down that path.
SHoward:
I stopped reading right about there. 9-11 was an inside job…the mob killed JFK…UFOs abduct cows…
Give it a rest already.
SHoward:
You can find all of Cosmos on Hulu BTW.
SHoward:
Sorry one more thing. Jangar doesn’t think modern-man existed millions of years ago. He thinks the world is 6000 yrs old and that dinosaurs and humans coexisted rather recently.
Zero,
I can appreciate your skepticism, but you really, really should read on before you jump to that conclusion in this case. I have managed to read about 1/3 of the un-abridged version of their book, and they actually do a very good job of supporting their position.
The link I gave you was of a third party review, and I don’t believe the authors consider themselves as overcomming “suppression.” They track reports from the early days of archeology and anthropology to the present, and they give both sides.
What they are saying is they believe evidence has been misinterpretted, and that the time modern humans have spent on earth is much longer than the 100,00 year figure offered up by the current prevailing theory.
SHoward:
Please. If they did a good job the scientific community would be going crazy over their evidence. Unless you seriously think there is some kind of conspiracy, it’s obviously nonsense, shame on you for falling for it. I am sure you could find favorable “third party” reviews for just about any garbage. It doesn’t mean I am going to waste my time on a book telling me how the Earth is flat.
Not if there were careers and reputations to protect. Just like the Global Warming crowd.
But I at least thought you just might be open minded enough to consider it. Sorry for mis-judging you. I won’t waste any more of your time.
SHoward:
Right, you think it’s a conspiracy. Nonsense. Global Warming isn’t even in the same ballpark. The truth is; GW has become so politicized that real debate is impossible. On the one hand you have people denying that the greenhouse effect even exists (which is absurd) and on the other had you have folks that basically want to shut down the economy and are scared sh|tless of nuclear power.
Are you “open-minded” enough to read material from “flat-Earthers?” Of course not. Realize this: if you are too “open-minded” your brain will fall out.
Dinosaurs and humans did not coexist. It’s patently obvious for so many reasons it’s hard to even know where to begin.
I call total BS on this. What the hell is it with you liberals? You always – always – say one thing, but when it gets you in hot water or questioned, what you said is suddenly not what you meant.
It doesn’t matter what Holdren’s “motives” were.
The fact that this is out there (along with your ubiquitous “humane population control” comment) is chilling. Forced abortion and sterilization – for any reason – is immoral, wrong, a violation of human rights and dignity and, frankly, evil.
There is no discernible difference between your defense of Holden’s ideologies and the myriad tyrants and their passive supporters who allowed genocide and extermination to take place throughout the ages.
“More humane” ways of getting rid of undesirable humans? Gas chambers, perhaps? (Already been tried)
Ghouls soulless ghouls.
