Shhhhhhh!

From the House GOP Conference Secretary’s office:
Democrats Gag Debate on Failure to Follow House Rules
(WASHINGTON, DC) – In an astonishing acceleration of the stifling of debate and transparency in the House, Democrats tonight voted to adjourn and gag the planned special orders speeches of U.S. Representatives John Carter (R-TX) and Steve King (R-IA).
Carter and King had announced they would discuss Democrat Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s (D-MD) statement that the upcoming health care reform effort would fail if Members were required to read the legislation. House Democrats accordingly silenced floor debate on the issue by voting to close early.
“The Democrats are the majority – for now,” says Carter, House Republican Conference Secretary. “They chose to silence debate on the floor by gagging House Republican Members from using their historical right to speak after the close of the day. But they cannot stop us from speaking and letting the American public know the truth about their ongoing assault against representative democracy.”
Obama lied, transparency died.

Sadly, the blissfully ignorant public will stay ignorant regarding what the libs are doing.
Our Republic does not have a prayer if we can not stop this maddness. When I don’t think it can get any worse, it does a ‘TRILLION’ times!
L
If you ask me, the Republicans are doing a good job by themselves in keeping quiet. I mean, other than the standard gratuitous grandstanding.
I can’t wait to see that gavel taken from her bony, cold, white fingers.
Unfortunately, you are correct. There is no “opposition party” in D.C. these days. Just the party in power and the party waiting for its turn at the trough.
Hey, the NHS in the UK is just like that! I had a sense of deja vu.
Yeah. Too bad, isn’t it.
Democrats, as with cockroaches and mold, do not do well in the light of day and thus find dark places to hide. Those dark places Democrats, as with cockroaches and mold, hide often need to be opened to air and light, cleaned with ammonia and traps laid.
And thus for at least a little while you are free of Democrats, cockroaches and mold–but get a little complacent and the Democrats, cockroaches and mold will return.
End Today’s Housekeeping Lesson.
Here’s how well it’s working in the UK

I’d say “What goes around, comes around”, but the GOP are the perennial nice guys and won’t play the hardball necessary when they have the majority.
When Republicans won the House in ’94 Newt Gingrich changed the rules to give the minority MORE voice.
The Dems are like Al Queda. Compromise is seen as weakness. They use our own rules against us. When they are in power, sharia is declared and dissent is squashed.
17.3 weeks for a specialist? What if you’re diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer?
Too true. The republicans in Congress act more like the “assistant party” than any kind of opposition. They consider it a “moral victory” when they can keep half of their number from voting with the democraps.
Kinda makes one wonder what’s in that bill that they don’t want us to know about.
Post #12. Sorry, that was pboilermaker, not pasadena phil.
Didn’t we hear someone recently say something to the effect of..”Sometimes a pain pill is all you need.”
Obama LIES, tranparency DIES.
Just a tense suggestion, Michelle.
A lot of people I know that have (or had) cancer were diagnosed fairly recently, and had no idea they were as sick as they were. When my father found out he had RCC, he didn’t have 17.3 weeks…but he still needed the treatment. What the hell is wrong with these people?
House rules suspend the 1st Amendment. What other Bill of Rights Amendments are they going to suspend, I think all!
Yes, a dog gets better health care than the rest of us. That has been true for a long time. Vet school is more difficult to get in, which allows the best students to treat animals. The rejects go to med school. There is little gov intervention and no medical insurance groups to muck with the treatment. When the gov takes over, we will get even less care.
Suddenly dissent is unpatriotic….
A bureaucrat from the health ministry will decide it’s not cost effective to treat cancer patients. This is how they plan to cut costs and save the system for people more productive. The elderly, chronically ill, marginally terminal will not be treated. That’s the hard reality of compassionate liberalism.
I sent a link of that video to a friend of mine. This friend was born and raised in Toronto, lived in London, Ontario for years, and now lives near Vancouver. He is about 62 years old (he and his wife also own a nice house in Mexico that is fun to visit during Spring Break, but that is another story…).
Anyway, I asked him to watch and comment on the video. This is what he said (and I quote directly):
“It is not completely accurate nor is it completely inaccurate. Health care is a provincial matter. It is not Canadian Health care it is Provincial health care. The wait times vary by hospital and clinic. The most I have ever waited is about1 hour. It does take a while to see a specialist about 2 to three months.
Our health care is very over burdened but nowhere near what they imply. Everything they say applies only to Quebec. ALL the other provinces do not do a tax on tax .
All in all I am happy with our healthcare system. I know that I am going to receive the care I need when I need it. It might not be when I want it. They try to treat emergency, life threatening conditions first and then down the list of severity. I also kn ow I will not have to sell my house and lose everything I have worked for if I fall ill”
It is interesting that Canada’s healthcare is run at the provential (state) level, but the idiots in Washington want to run it at the national level.
Also, we have about 10 times the population–that will add to our burden over what Canada has.
Also, my friend leans a bit to the liberal side, but he always seems straight forward and articulate to me.
Here’s a fair warning from a Canadian friend who means well: whatever you do in the U.S., don’t copy our decrepit healthcare system. People are waiting for months, even years, for vital treatment and surgery; many actually die waiting.
Trust me, you don’t want the Canadian system.
They don’t have cancer and this isn’t going to apply to them anyway, what the heck do they care.
UrbanSpaceman, your friend is still fairly young. It will be interesting to hear what he has to say when he is in his 80s. (Just going by experience with my dad. All was well till 80s then down…)
Another thing I’d like to say is I can’t understand why there isn’t more discussed about Miranda Richardson’s death. Ski accident in Canada, hit her head. From what I recall, even though she eventually was taken to a place where she could get an MRI, there wasn’t a tech to read it (brain drain issue with gov’t health care). Valuable time lost, brought to USA, too late.
Dreadful of course, but Dems don’t seem to understand that they too will suffer this fate. Wait 3 years to get a private doctor? $900 to go to a private doctor to get a blood test? 9 hours waiting in an emergency room with a broken collarbone, then told to go to an orthopedist the next day. The clinic is open from 9 – 12 five days a week…
Welcome to Obamacare.
Only taxpayers should be allowed to vote. If that means taxing the poor, I’m now ok with that. It will help them understand there is always a cost.
While it is called “free health care”, it is extremely expensive. Here in Ontario, the health care budget eats up over 50% of the provincial revenue. I’m a Veteran with some health issues, and having to wait extended periods of time for any kind of diagnosis leaves me in a lot of pain, for a long time. how Long?
15 months for Orthroscopic knee surgery, 6 months to get an MRI for my herniated discs, (mother in-law got one for her dog the same day), a year to see a back specialist (still waiting, was booked on 17 March 2009 for 02 March 2010) and anticipated “minimum” wait for back surgery is 18 months to 2 years.
But, no problem, when it’s bad I can always comfort myself knowing that athletes, politicians and the wealthy suffer too, like; going to the US to get in the next day, or going to the very front of the wait line and get operated on that night.
After all, their important and us minions can just wait our turn, after all, we only have to try and look after our families and ourselves, not anything important.
Americans, stay the hell away from our system!!!
Oh yeah, 9 hours in a hospital emergency room is fast. If you go to a hospital here, bring a lunch and a dinner, and expect to be there for an average of 15 hrs or more. I’ve waited as long as 23 hours to get a piece of metal removed from my eye. but you do get to meet a lot of cute nurses when your there through a shift or three.
lgm, edelweiss, ilmc, rss…??
One persone who has lived with this system said the worst thing about it, is that it turns everyone into a criminal.
When you think how corrupt life was in the Soviet system, you can understand how easy it is for society to become that way.
my wife is from England…she hated socialized medicine and is totally against any form of it here….
The answer lies in the OPPOSITE direction; free markets.
Want models?
Vet care.
Dental care.
Lasic eye surgery (prices down 30%, quality up since its introduction).
Plastic surgery (since it is generally NOT covered by insurance…or IOW NOT paid by a third party).
This is NOT complex. Because the causes are so simple and obvious, most people cannot see them.
Huh?
The Executive Branch is independant from the the Legislative Branch. Not that Pres Obama is practicing any form of transparency, but what goes on in the ‘House’, stays in the ‘House’.
Moreover, the discussion will resume tomorrow. Reps King and Carter will have the opportunity to express themselves, and their objections.
Patience is a virture, and what the Dems did was, less than transparent, but it is no reason to get one’s shorts in a bunch. The Congress, House and Senate, are full of arcane and funky rules.
Much ado, about what is done in Congress.
Dearly Beloved- Brother John croaked this morning opening a bed at Dreary ‘ospital Oncology wing one. He croaked for Queen and Country!

How did she take it the first time she saw the sun?
Excuse me, but what do you expect them to do??? They are outnumbered and effectively shut down when they try to get the libs to even look at their proposals. This corrupt liberal government is twarting the laws and the constitution by not even allowing the other side a voice. Then Pelosi goes on TV and uses her favorite word, “bi-partisan”. Have you ever noticed how often she says it? And this, from the most partisan hack ever seen in DC. I pray every day that these corrupt traitors get what is coming to them and are led away in handcuffs.
By the way, I just heard Harry Reid on TV today say that the new healthcare won’t cost anyone a dime. Seriously. He needs to be put in a nice quiet sanitarium where he can’t hurt himself or anyone else.
If they put this nonsense through he’s right. And you will get what you pay for. The Crowder clip above is appalling.
Let’s see, federal workers, union members, members of Congress and the Executive and Judicial branches exempted from the proposed system…they will get to keep their private coverage unaffected by what the rest of us peons will have to endure. Sounds like “Animal Farm” where some are more equal than others. Bastards.
If Congressmen vote for this legislation without knowing what’s in it, without reading it, they are violating their oath of office and mocking the people of this nation. We cannot claim to have a democratic, representative government if one party is allowed to pass bills unread and without debate. That behavior borders on treason. It is not the change Americans (by a narrow margin) so stupidly voted for when they put the community organizer-in-chief at the head of government and sent his lackies to do his bidding. Despite public opinion polls favoring keeping existing coverage, despite obvious concern over sky-rocketing deficits, this president and this Congress are determined to turn this country into Amerika, a socialist workers’ paradise. Are there no responsible Democrats left? Obviously Republicans cannot save us. Are there none that have some sense of responsibility and love for their country? Apparently not.
UrbanSpaceman may have found a Canadian who doesn’t mind his health coverage in British Columbia, but I have a brother-in-law there who would disagree on quality and rationing issues. He nearly died waiting for a heart bypass that started out, months previously, as angioplasty and a stint. But time spent on the waiting list allowed his condition to worsen, so that when he was to undergo the angioplasty, they decided to put him on the list for a bypass, further months down the road. He had two heart attacks in the meantime, and spent the final weeks waiting for the operation in a hospital where they could watch him more closely. But the heart attack which preceded the hospitalization was not sufficient to “move him up on the list”, he was told. He eventually got a 5-way bypass.
Nobody in Washington seems to give a da*n about the citizens of this country anymore; unless, of course, you’re a minority in a multi-generational welfare situation. What has happened to this country in the 6 months since Obama was inaugarated??
Cold…just cold…extremely hilarious…but just plain cold…
Obama lied,
transparencyfreedom died.i recieved an e-mail this morning which went through why 545 people keep screwing 300,000,000 americans. these 545 are congress, the president, and the scotus. we get deficits because these 545 want deficits, we get tax laws because they want those laws, we get ss while they get a golden parachute retirement and health care because they want it that way. forget lobbyists, regulating beaurocrats, all the other excuses these 545 people point to, because lobbyists don’t force them to do anything, beaurocrats are their minions, regulations are their doing. get rid of 545 people and start over. 300 million being robbed and screwed by 545. seems time to clean house.
Like her or not, I think Sarah Palin will lead the charge in communicating to the American people what is really going on in this country. That is unless the MSM refuses to cover her…anymore.
There should be laws in this country to prevent one party rule. Isn’t this why we have a Congress, to hear both sides. I am sharpening the pitchfork now.
Remember we out number them. All we gotta do is show up together at the Capitol.
