Congress should be required to enroll in Obamacare

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 15, 2009 03:18 PM

If socialized medicine is good enough to force on American taxpayers, it’s good enough for Congress. I like this House resolution from Rep. John Fleming requiring lawmakers in Washington to enroll in any government-run health plan it decides to foist on the rest of us.

Read and sign the petition supporting House Resolution 615 here:

Over the past few weeks, members of Congress and the American people have come to know the details of the Administration’s proposed health care plan. Call it whatever you like, this proposal is nothing more than government-run health care. As a physician, I am amazed at the number of bureaucrats in this House who are quick to claim a government-run health care plan is the reform this country needs. In response to this, I have offered a resolution that will offer members of Congress an opportunity to put their money where their mouth is, and urge their colleagues who vote for legislation creating a government-run health care plan to lead by example and enroll themselves in the same public plan.

Under the current draft of the Democrat healthcare legislation, members of Congress are curiously exempt from the government-run health care option, keeping their existing health plans and services on Capitol Hill. If Members of Congress believe so strongly that government-run health care is the best solution for hard working American families, I think it only fitting that Americans see them lead the way. Public servants should always be accountable and responsible for what they are advocating, and I challenge the American people to demand this from their representatives.

If you agree with me, sign our online petition below and together we will work to ensure that any plan that is good enough is for American families is good enough for every member of Congress.

Talk about two Americas…do people really think that this is an answer. Being retired military, I am very familiar with socialized health care. I have waited for a doctor with a screaming/sick child for over six hours, I have waited at the pharmacy for over four hours. I had a very sick child and had to listen to a doctor who could not speak english tell me what was wrong. I threw a hissy fit and got a different doctor. I am not trashing military care, but now that we are retired it is a different world. People are not going to be happy with this. As for the crumbs in office, they will never manup and put their money where their mouth is. Remember Obama, when asked if he would put his family on this plan…his answer was that he would get the best treatment possible for them. This is just madness. Give this guy another six months and we will not even recognize this country any more.

    In my fantasy world:

When CongressCritters go on their little ‘junkets’ they would only be allowed to go to places where our troops are currently serving.

They would not be allowed to take any family members or staff.

They would travel to these junkets in the back of a C-130 sitting on the troop seats our men and women in uniform have to travel on (and I can tell you that they get real uncomfortable after the first hour).

When they arrive at their destination, they would have to carry their own luggage and throw it into the truck that will deliver them to their accomodations, an 8-man tent without airconditioning.

They will have to shower in such a tents where the only plumbing is a pipe sticking up out of the ground with four shower heads at the top — no stalls, no seats, you undress in an adjoining tent walk in, shower and walk out to dry off and pick up your clothes off the floor.

The latrines for their use would be an outdoor multi-holer that has no running water and they will only be allowed to use it during the hottest part of the day.

Meals would be cold MRE’s, unless one of them could figure out how to light some C-4 without blowing themselves up.

No laundry service would be available, they wear the same clothes for the duration.

Then let’s see what happens to these ‘necessary fact-finding’ journeys.

“Do as I say, not as I do” is the worst kind of “leadership” there is. Sometimes, the best antidote is to expose the policy-makers to the same things that they’re foisting on everyone else: like the example in World War II when an officer on the command staff of an infantry division showed up one day decked out in around 100 pounds of gear. After the commanding general berated him and told him to take all that crap off, his reply was simply that this was what the front-line troops were being required to wear/carry.

It wasn’t long after that that the uniform policy got changed.

If they want better health care, then they can pay for it. If they need a car to conduct the “people’s” business, they can submit receipts and claim it on their taxes…just like the rest of us. They need to fly to conduct the people’s business, same thing…receipts, and claim it on their taxes.

Let them prove their business expenses just like everyone else has to. Why not make them live by the same rules and restrictions as everybody else?

I would even go one step further…elected Ethics Panels. Rather than the “show” House and Senate Ethics Committees we now endure, why not establish some that are not influenced by fellow politicians or political allegiances?

Members of Congress found guilty of ethics violations should serve mandatory prison sentences of no less than ten years, and minimum fines not to exceed ten million dollars.

Maybe that would get their attention, but I doubt it.

They are lucky I am not in charge of any of the insurance companies. If I was a CEO or Chairman of the board of United Health, I would DARE them to create a government health insurance plan.

As soon as they did, I would close down completely. I would liquidate everything. All policy holders, all employees, all everything.

I would divvy up the billions of dollars of reserves among the employees and shareholders.

I would tell ALL policy holders that they no longer have coverage. Since the insurance companies are so evil, you can now get your insurance directly from Congress.

If every insurance company did that, the government would be absolutely crippled. They would have to take EVERYONE on their government plan. Health costs would go from 2.5 T to 6 T in a year. Government would try to cut costs by putting hospitals and doctors out of business.

Bottom line: If all insurance companies closed as an answer to the government health care plan, Obama’s legacy (and Pelosi, and Reid) would be that they bankrupted all the hospitals. . . AND the government in one year.

They are lucky I’m not the one calling the shots. I would use this out of spite and put it directly in Obama’s lap since he thinks insurance companies are so bad.

Screw the sheeple. If they’re stupid enough to elect socialist, then we/they should suffer consequences. Except for a few good people like Congressman Fleming, the crooks in Washington will NEVER sign on to Obamacare for themselves and for their families.

Apparently, the country (idiot sheeple) haven’t suffered enough yet. Conservatives are more likely to weather the storm of the socialists than the sheeple who elected them. Mexifornia and New York are getting their just desserts. The rest of the country is about to get their/our turn.

By the time Obama, Reid and Pelosi are done with their insane agenda, the sheeple should be begging for conservative leadership.

I’ve posted on this before- they should have the same deal the military does. To qualify for your pension (that is half of your base pay) you have to serve 20 years minimum. If you are convicted of any crime you lose any chance of a pension- even if the idiots in your district re-elect you. Good enough for us, good enough for them.

    Hell, yeah! Why not?

Hmmm, if Congress were required to sign up for ObamaCare, I think they would add several amendments:

The Pelosi-Kerry-Boxer Amendment to cover botox treatments.

The Kennedy-Kennedy Amendment to cover alcohol and drug treatment.

The Frank-Vitter-Ensign amendment to cover treatments for STDs.

The Barney Frank “Gerbil Removal and Speech Therapy Coverage” Amendment.

The William Jefferson Amendment covering frostbite received while stashing bribe money.

The Charlie Rangel Amendment covering sunburn received during visits to tax-free Caribbean villas.

An Amendment to exempt Congress from liability in slip and fall accidents resulting when people trip in the puddles of media drool left after an Obama press conference.

The Murtha Amendment, earmarking $8 Billion for the John Murtha hospital in Johnstown Pennsylvania.

I like this House resolution from Rep. John Fleming requiring lawmakers in Washington to enroll in any government-run health plan it decides to foist on the rest of us.

This amendment officially makes the House health care reform bill bipartisan. It’s a Republican amendment to a Democratic bill adopted by a Democratic majority. Don’t say it never happens.

Similar to: “It’s my ball so I get to make the rules!”

You truely are an idiot. If you would put forth a good argument or debate, you would be tolarated, but since you lack the mental capability to do so, you should just crawl back under the bridge where you live.

Only those lawmakers who constantly take a good, legitimate use of tax dollars (school choice) and attack or discontinue it, thereby denying poor and minority students the ability to a good education.
