Senate committee passes health care takeover, 13-10
Well, this is one hurdle down on the road to socialized medicine. Time to ramp up the resistance, folks.
The NYTimes is thrilled to report:
Voting on strict party lines, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee approved a bill on Wednesday to revamp the nation’s health care system, as Democrats said that the legislation held the promise of more universal health coverage and more effective and affordable medical care while Republicans argued that the measure was unaffordable and would lead not to better care but to the denial of it.
The committee vote was 13 to 10.
The acting committee chairman, Senator Christopher J. Dodd, Democrat of Connecticut, had made clear from the start that his panel would bend little when it came to the top priorities of Senate Democrats and the Obama administration, including on a provision to create a government-run health insurance plan to compete with private insurers that Republicans insisted was a deal-breaker.
In the end however, Republicans held their ranks. In his closing statement, Senator Michael B. Enzi of Wyoming said that Republicans had been forced to offer more than 100 amendments to the bill because Democrats had largely shut them out of the drafting process. And he said that the $1 trillion, 10-year cost of the measure would simply drive the nation further into debt, while denying many Americans the choices for health care providers that they now enjoy.
Mr. Enzi, with a hint of sarcasm, noted that the bill’s title was the “Affordable Health Choices Act.”
“With its trillion-dollar price tag,” Mr. Enzi said, “this bill is anything but affordable.”

Let them pass it along straight party lines and Democrats will be on the Endangered Species List by 2013.
There they go again, tax and spend democrats doing what they do best, taxing and spending.
So, I’m sure they all voted to include themselves in this Nirvana plan…Right ?
WTF
So much for the bipartisanship so longed for by our president. Since the most ethical Democrats took over in 2006 there has been no working together of the parties. Dems just say “our way or the highway.”
These Congressional meat sacks don’t give a rat’s a$$ what we think. They punk’d enough of the ignorant masses to get elected, and the rest of us are freakin screwed.
Scumbags.
Nice. Rather than offer Resolutions to force Congress into any socialized program they slap together, a BILL should be offered making it law to revoke Congress’ existing health care for one year.
They can offer to be a test case if they believe in this socialism so much.
They can get the government care they crave so much at their nearest VA.
Oh, but Thug Emanuel has said bipartisanship is now accepting ideas from Republicans for the plan.
Getting their votes no longer matters.
Didn’t I hear something about a million man Taxpayer March in September when Congress starts back up? Hmmmmm
I have just sent the following to my senator, Ben Nelson D-NE:
I will keep you posted as to what kind of BS answer I get.
Unfortunately, my dear senator Snowejob is drippy over obamacare. She’s gotten over a dozen calls from me, and I’ll keep calling her staff, not that it does any good…
If anyone else wants to call her:

I am a designer, and have a client who is a physician. He sadly says that he is seriously considering looking into a different profession, after 20 years in osteopathic healthcare. What a sad state of affairs.
Hunter:
Let save you the agonizing wait:
I have sent Mary Fallin (OK) several emails on the immigration topic…each has been on a different area of immigration, every single reply (by mail) has been exactly the same response…I’ve not received a response to my last email about receiving the “canned” immigration letter response…don’t expect it either and she supports immigration enforcement…I’m reconsidering any support for her in her bid for the Gov position….
Excellent!
I will Save your response to compare with what I receive. (Please don’t hold your breath though, Nelson’s lackeys do not always send a form letter, and when they do, it is about 6 weeks after initial contact.)
when you send in a query to your congressperson/senator.. tell them you are a gay female latino, and if they don’t vote the way you tell them, you’ll sue them.
I hope your senator will give you a straight answer, but if I were a betting man,I believe he will send you something like:
With all apologies to PSRK, ironman made me laugh even more with his canned resopnse.
I do believe the I agree that I am in agreement with what ironman seems to agree to be concerned about!
ironman, I will save your response to compare with what I receive as well!

theUGH! Must be time for bed, I even previewed.
Good boy Chris Dodd, good boy! Now, run and get your treat like a good doggie.
this is the same organization that ruined the housing lending business, the banks in this country, not mention pushed the economy of the ledger and we’re suppose to trust them with the health of our families, and friends? I think NOT!
I seriously agree with Flyoverman, we need to make all these asinine bills democrat bills there’s no way they can with stand elections in 2010 & 2012. And when we retake congress there no nice guy BS as before, go for the jugular and do not stop till all the crooks are removed from office, including any rino’s that may come along in this medical fight to save their jobs and these bureaucrats that have been selling out for decades. They think we’ll all forget how they voted for the stimulus and the bail out bills.
If this bill becomes the law, I see misery for all of us, except the Rich and the Politicians.
In case it has escaped anyone’s attention, the Political Species has carved out the exclusion from this so called Public Option. No waiting in line for them. After all, they are the best and the brightest. They can’t be expected to stand in line when their services are critically needed in Washington!
The Tax on Rich is not going to pay for this nonsense.
Nobody becomes Rich by being stupid.
The Rich are known to find ways to keep more of their earnings to themselves. They will reduce their payroll, or take their entire trade to business friendly locale.
Does anybody think that the Rich will wait in line for their medical care?
How about a trip to destinations such as India and Philippines? These countries are brimming with talented medical practitioners, the cost is dirt cheap by USA standards. And, oh by the way, a nice little side trip to Taj Mahal or the foothills of Himalayas would be nice a vacation.
Yep. My husband and I will be there.
9/12 March on DC
That chart still gives me a headache. Did they design it to do that?
Let us see how many of these ‘yea’ voters would be willing to cancell their Congressional Health benefits and go on this plan. I will agree to this National Health Care, when I see our congressmen subscribing to it.
Right, don’t forget bankrupted California and well on their way to bankrupting New York. The Democrats are like people who max out all of their credit cards then when they can’t pay those bills take out more credit cards to cover the ones they can’t cover anymore. Yet, people want them to decide their futures for them….Amazing.
The first step in controlling healthcare cost is tort reform to bring down malpractice insurance from all of the fraudsters like John Edwards. I doubt we’ll see a bunch of congress criminal lawyers pass something intelligent like that.
right on battleaxe, but another neccesary change is to allow and indeed encourage hospitals to refuse service to people who can’t pay one way or another. my mother had medical problems while at her mcallen texas winter home, and when i went to the facility, it was wall to wall pregnant latinas giving birth to anchor babies. or the news cast of a few months ago where 9 individuals cost a hospital in dallas millions of dollars in unreimbursed care. stop it, and people will consider health insurance over the big screen.
Does anyone know how to email the individual House and Senate members without looking up each individual name?
I have a blast that I would like to send as well as call them—for what it is worth.
