    In terms of your question…

Lets say the government rules and regulations allow for law suits and the industry that has sprung up around them to exist.

The government enacts some kind of “reform” and as a result the law suit piece of health care dries up and goes away.

That does not mean there is more government intervention.

You continue to attempt to connect dots that do not connect.

I didn’t say they did not. I said your attempt to make some point isn’t credible because you have left out part of the equation.

I am not making any equation, sport. All I am saying is it is stupid to whine about taking 25% of what you earn, essentially treating overhead the same as taxes.

Tell me… if you buy a stock for $100 (think of the basis as “overhead”) and sell it for $120 and pay $3 (15% cap gain rate) for the tax, do you say “I only got to keep 14.16% of my 120 dollars”? Or do you say “I only got to keep 85% of my profit”?

I can’t believe I would even have to explain this to anyone with an education over 8th grade.

I guess you don’t understand basic math, economics and tax policy. Glad I finally understand it is pointless to attempt to explain anything to you until you catch up on those remedial classes.

Again…Azygos has every right to complain about taxes. He does not help his argument one bit complaining about his overhead and including that into the equation. After all…unless he is an idiot, he is passing those costs on to his clients and deducts them from his tax return.

I know a lot of business owners that would love a 25% profit margin.

Restaurants run on about 5%. The average S&P runs on a margin of 8.5%.

    S&P?

This profit margin is the doctor’s salary. You think this doctor should bill $2M to take home $100K?

As another poster stated, I want my doctor to be able to make a good living. Do think they should compete with the asst manager at Burger King?

You seem to forget what point you tried to make in lambasting a doctor implying his profit margin was too high as compared to what you imagine is pleasing to other business.

As a word merchant I’m sure many many words means something to you. But it really is not a good strategy to attempt to muck up the water by endless dialog.

Glad to see though the tendency folks like yourself tend to have that they think they have the right to determine what a doctor should or shouldn’t make is out in the open.

To try and determine if a doctor’s profit margin is too high based on a percent without looking at the % of what is meaningless.

But go ahead, continue to make meaningless points. I’ll try and find software that will add those little numbers on the left when I post on line to help you track a post.

Jeez, seriously…do none of you understand revenue vs. profit?

And for what its worth, doctors earn every penny they get. My sister in law is one and I know their life is often hell. But that has nothing to do with recognizing the difference between legitimate overhead and taxes.

Not understanding the difference between revenue and profit sets your baseline for uneducation.

Setting up a strawman argument, which is a conscious decision on your part, makes you seem even more so. Or, in the alternative, we have to assume you made that poor argument in good faith and move your actual baseline lower, your choice.

There is no such thing as a ‘macho’ Texan. The only ones that claim to be, or strike that attitude, are from somewhere else. You’ll never find a state more proud of who they are, what they’ve accomplished, fly the Lone Star and U.S. flag daily (not just on Nat’l holidays), and ready to welcome anyone that will honor their country (Texas), respect their families and do a day’s work for a day’s wage. Lastly, don’t cop a southern accent if you’re not from there.

chap, if you don’t like brisket that’s a shame…more for me. Smoked one last weekend. Froze 3/4 of it. Great to thaw when it’s hot and with a little chipotle salsa wrapped in a tortilla you will think you’re in heaven. But, no, I don’t BBQ brisket – you smoke it for hours. The only thing I BBQ are prime fillets, fish/seafood/and vegetables. Everything in poultry and pork are smoked. The then…get yourself a big hunk of salmon, brine it, then smoke it and you’re in business with capers/twist of lemon and bagel slices.

Just to be clear I am not a doctor I am a Nurse Practitioner. I am an independent contractor who partners with other NP’s and a doctor. And to be clear I was not whining I was making a statement of fact. And to add a little clarity 50% of the cost of overhead is paid to the federal government in taxes. Not all doctors offices are that way but in our current configuration thats what happens.

Chap, tell you what, give me 75% of what you earn and lets see how your standard of living is affected?

One more thing. I took care of a 400 plus pound homeless person the other day at no charge to him. Only in America could someone weigh 400 lbs and be homeless.

BBQ, to me, has always been slow smoke cooking…like brisket and ribs. That type of cooking takes hours. Get it started at 6 am, and watch over it all day. Grilling (what most people call BBQ) is for chicken and burgers. Big difference.

Talapia is rather oily and if your grates are not non-stick, you could try the spray on chemical stuff. Just about everything will burn. As far as Texas putting LA to shame during Katrina, just about every gulf coast state hit by Katrina did. Texas took thousands of refugees, even though they were not only hit by Katrina in isolated areas but Rita a few weeks later. I remember LGF (Little Green Footballs) had relief funds and people down there running generators and supplies in to those that were guarding their homes on the gulf coast – all via the internet. It was a lump in the throat moment. Yet, they still found time to have a meet-up later as a group.

As far as Kay Bailey, she’s been a huge disappointment on immigration but still a lady with a tremendous hurtle to cross to get where she is today. Rick Perry could go far if he’d decide which side of the fence he’s going to play on immigration as well. Unlike many other governors ;) , if he can keep his nose clean and win the next election he has a lot to contribute to the national scene down the road.

Probably too late for a suggestion, but I’ve heard of using two cooling racks (for baking), oiled, and connected with wire if you don’t have a basket.

Again, you are confusing revenue with profit. Look back to my example of a stock sale. It is the exact same principle.

Enough with this. You are wrong. As wrong as someone that like Dr. Pepper.

Folks, the thing is, what the bordering states did in response to Katrina was a HUGE and MASSIVE testament to the wisdom of the founding fathers about creating a republic, federalism, states’ rights.
The surrounding states were all better prepared for such a disaster, offered to help, begged to help.
And why didn’t it happen? LA failed as a state and with the growth of federal government power, everybody looked to someone else to take responsibility.
This should have been a huge wake-up to our nation about the balance of power between the states and a central government.
