Colorado’s Democrat governor refuses to endorse cap and tax

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 21, 2009 12:29 PM

Check this out. GOP Sen. Jim Inhofe wonders why Democrat Gov. Bill Ritter would support cap and tax given the heavy fiscal toll it would impose on Colorado.

Inhofe: “Are you here supporting Waxman Markey today?”

Ah, the ole political two-step. We should add music to his shuffling.

It’s amazing how they all want their idealism and AGW beliefs to be legislated but never wish to talk about the costs, even to his own state. The fact that he does not refute any of what Sen. Inhofe says about Waxman Markey is telling by itself.

No surprise here . . . we Coloradans know that Bill Ritter won’t take a stand on anything. I suppose he probably loves his mother but I doubt you could get him to say so.

The best part of this video is what I believe to be Barbara Boxer moving in and out of the picture chewing gum like a cow. She’s offensive even when she’s not talking.

Ritter didn’t commit to any kind of position other than supporting greenhouse gas emmission reduction. Even though Ritter didn’t clearly endorse, he didn’t clearly seem to share Inhofe’s economic concerns. You could tell in Inhofe’s short, dejected “all right, that’s fine.” response that he was hoping for a much different response. Ritter doesn’t get it and Inhofe saw that in his response.

If Ritter doesn’t have the spine to give a yes-or-no answer, I won’t hold my breath for any kind of resolution reminding the feds of the limitations (technically) imposed on them by the 10th. No, we just sent our Senator to D.C. to continue the damage, but on a larger scale. One third of “our” land is “fedearal/national” land. I wouldn’t look to CO for bravery or leadership. The most I can hope for is some “me too” after the Republic of Texas takes the lead.

Right on, JoAnn in VA. Those of us who are conservative in CO are very disheartened with our fellow Coloradans. Over the last few elections we have turned over our legislature, the Governor’s office and most of the higher courts to the Democrat party. Very disturbing. Then they complain about the results. I’m a transplant from PA for the last almost 40 years. CO used to be a solidly “Red” state. With the exception of the Denver and Pueblo counties with their heavy labor union representation. Then the “blue” began to snake up through the “beautiful people” areas in the ski resorts and the “People’s Republic of Boulder”. Ouch. Something went terribly wrong…there were some bright spots in the recent past when we in Pueblo County actually elected some very responsible and competent Republicans to office, but they eventually were voted out by the left’s usual deceptions and people succumbed to the usual “I was born a Democrat, I’ll die a Democrat” mindset regardless of the facts…Aargh.

Because most of the people living here now are NOT from Colorado and bring their leftist, environNazi policies with them from places like California and New York.

Those of us who have always lived here, recognize the value of oil and gas exploration. We certainly felt the impact in the early 80s when the bottom dropped out of the industry. It didn’t really recover until the last few years when prices were higher.

With Ritter and a Dem-run Legislature – both houses, we’re already feeling the effects of their new stringent regulations on oil and gas. Several companies have either pulled out or severely reduced their expenditures in the state. They’re putting their R&D money into Wyoming and Texas instead.

On top of that we have the usual “open space”, “roadless wilderness”, “endangered insects”, and other policies that put land out of reach for development of any kind.

hawkeye54, sadly true. I came here courtesy of “Uncle Sam’s Travel Plan” and nearly instantly realized I was in a very special place. The standard joke around Colorado in the early 70’s was that everyone discovering Colorado wanted to be the last one in the gate before it was locked. Maybe it SHOULD have been fenced off. But what happened in CO has happened all across the country. I’d bet most folks in the military and those who stayed here after getting out or retiring have voted solidly conservative. But the sad trend across the country has been that too many who voted conservative jumped the fence and gave us a Democrat Congress and now BO. No telling what prompted their thought patterns. If any. Those same trends gave us Bubba in Chief in ‘92 and nearly gave us Gore and Kerry. Finally gave us BO. In spite of warnings of the consequences. Sad but true. Yep, us baby boomers didn’t raise our voting age kids very well. We reap what we sow. A nation of “gimmies”.
