hawkeye54, sadly true. I came here courtesy of "Uncle Sam's Travel Plan" and nearly instantly realized I was in a very special place. The standard joke around Colorado in the early 70's was that everyone discovering Colorado wanted to be the last one in the gate before it was locked. Maybe it SHOULD have been fenced off. But what happened in CO has happened all across the country. I'd bet most folks in the military and those who stayed here after getting out or retiring have voted solidly conservative. But the sad trend across the country has been that too many who voted conservative jumped the fence and gave us a Democrat Congress and now BO. No telling what prompted their thought patterns. If any. Those same trends gave us Bubba in Chief in '92 and nearly gave us Gore and Kerry. Finally gave us BO. In spite of warnings of the consequences. Sad but true. Yep, us baby boomers didn't raise our voting age kids very well. We reap what we sow. A nation of "gimmies".

I don’t understand why the citizens of CO. not pitching a royal fit to get the oil they have out of the ground. Jobs, taxes, etc. would make CO a very wealthy state.

Because most of the people living here now are NOT from Colorado and bring their leftist, environNazi policies with them from places like California and New York.

Those of us who have always lived here, recognize the value of oil and gas exploration. We certainly felt the impact in the early 80s when the bottom dropped out of the industry. It didn't really recover until the last few years when prices were higher.

With Ritter and a Dem-run Legislature - both houses, we're already feeling the effects of their new stringent regulations on oil and gas. Several companies have either pulled out or severely reduced their expenditures in the state. They're putting their R&D money into Wyoming and Texas instead.

On top of that we have the usual "open space", "roadless wilderness", "endangered insects", and other policies that put land out of reach for development of any kind.
