Dems run away from Gitmo again

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 24, 2009 10:26 AM

Bok, bok, bok. Another chicken run from Democrats who desperately do not want to talk about Obama’s Gitmo jihadi dump.

Sen. Jim Inhofe’s office reports on how the Dems blocked his Gitmo amendment:

Senate Democrats today blocked the effort of U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) to consider his amendment that would permanently keep the military-run detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (GITMO) open while preventing terrorist detainees from being transferred to the United States.

“President Obama and the Democrats’ obsession with closing GITMO is confounding,” Inhofe said. “I attempted to get the Senate to consider my very clear and straightforward amendment to the Defense Authorization bill that would have ensured that GITMO remained open and denied the transfer of terrorist detainees to the United States. Polls have shown that most Americans do not want to close GITMO, and certainly do not want these terrorist detainees to be transferred to the United States. A few days ago, my office announced a petition drive to get Oklahomans and Americans to support my effort to keep GITMO open. In that short amount of time, my office was inundated with tens of thousands of signatures to the petition. The fact that the Democrats have blocked my amendment defies the outspoken desire of these Americans.”

Inhofe continued, “The amendment I tried to offer is very similar to S.370, a stand-alone bill I offered to keep GITMO open. I will continue to pursue every available opportunity to achieve legislation that permanently keeps the facility open and closes the door to terrorist transfers.”

It should come as no surprise that Senate Democrats aren’t at all interested in what Americans want.

My guess is that a big percentage of that ‘most Americans’ number voted for The Prez. They just don’t admit it. Same with a lot of other issues. Their shame must be keeping them up at night.

Ah, yes, the scalpel. The one he said he was going to use on the federal budget to reduce the size of it.

Remember, it’s not what they say, it’s what they don’t say. He told us about the scalpel he would use to cut the budget. He didn’t tell us about the tons of fertilizer he would use to make sure the budget grew.

The supply of fertilizer increases every time he opens his mouth.

BroBama and his minions ran their mouths-let them deal with it. For one I would tell the Republican leadership to keep quiet and let the Leftist fight among themselves. Be they here or Gitmo for the next four years the jihadis are BroBama’s problem.

WE are NOT going to turn MuslimLand into free style democracies-it is not in their universe to be so. The sooner we quit dealing with those people-develop our own energy the sooner we can be rid of muslims and start to rid ourselves of these Obaminations. GITMO is the least of our problems.

    Marcus Tullius Cicero:

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.

Over time the Democrats and especially Obama, concentrated their criticism of Bush on three major areas concerning the War on Terror:
    1) GITMO
    2) Interrogations
    3) The conduct of the Iraq War, specifically The Surge

Their positions are a house of cards. The surge succeeded. Interrogations were not criminal, signed off by the Intell Committees, enhanced techinques were targeted, as well as limited, and produced important results. GITMO has turned out to be the best choice for a location and facility to house these terrorists.

Right now Obama is 0-2, because of what has come to light regarding The Surge and interrogations. If he can’t close GITMO, he will come off (correctly I might add) looking like someone who shot is mouth off and didn’t have a clue what he was talking about.

Also implied is that the Evil Booooosh and the Arch Fiend Cheney turned out to be pretty much on target with their decisions and management. If that happens the unhinged Left will tear him to shreds, long before the voters do.

Obama is in a poltical corner where he is now forced to do ANYTHING to close GITMO, because he can’t “lose” on this one. This will not be putting lipstick on a pig; it will be putting lipstick on a hippo.

When you lower the cost of something, supply being constant, you raise the demand for it.

    Whoa!!

The other day I time-traveled back to the 60s while reading a post….

Now, I watch, before my eyes, as infintity – in the form of infinite foolishness – is infinitely raised to the infinite power…by a mathematician, no less!

So, has infinity just been shown not to be infinte?

Have the world and, indeed, the cosmos been turned upside-down?

Will things now fall up if I let go of them?

Will the sun rise in the west tomorrow morning?

    Will my watch run backwards?

Will I be a day younger tomorrow?

    Well?

    Bueller?

Yalta and Truman disarmed the U.S.

EXAMPLE: At the start of the Korean War, the U.S. Marines were so depleted they did not have one Marine Division. They stripped Marines from embassies world wide and took platoons straight out of basic with their DI’s. in order to form the First Marine Division.

A friend of my family was in one of those basic training platoons. He said within a month all the guys who did not listen in basic were dead or wounded.

Ok. So what happens after we move everybody to Supermax and it develops a bad international reputation? Do we close Supermax? Our international reputation is based on rumors not facts. The rumors will continue no matter where we house the terrorists.

When you have problems, you fix them. You don’t burn down the house and rebuild. Even Eric Holder says that the problems at Gitmo have been fixed. So the problem has been solved. If it aint broke, don’t fix it.
