USA Today columnist blames Peeping Tom victim
Erin Andrews is an ESPN reporter. Some sick person planted hidden cameras in her hotel room and splashed video of her while she was dressing all over the Internet.
Andrews happens to be young, beautiful, and a stylish dresser — prompting USA Today columnist Christine Brennan to write on Twitter that Andrews is essentially to blame for the appalling invasion of her privacy.
Women sports journalists need to be smart and not play to the frat house. There are tons of nuts out there.
Erin Andrews incident is bad, but to add perspective: there are 100s of women sports journalists who have never had this happen to them.
Brennan repeated the same sentiments on a talk radio program.
I have a feeling Ms. Brennan would get along swimmingly with Bonnie “You deserve to be on a rape list” Erbe.

Disgusting.
Christine Brennan’s behavior is disgusting and I’m sorry to hear that Erin Andrews suffered the indignities she did.
Why are women so hard on women? Don’t answer that. It’s rhetorical and I already know why.
Where has common decency gone in our culture?
I mean, really…?
So following the logic, since I and thousands of other Americans have never held up, an armed robbery victim is at fault?
Liberal logic has no logic.
Right.
And muslim judges claim:
Do ya think USA Today columnist Christine Brennan is muslim?
I suspect Christine is upset that the tons of nuts out there aren’t trying to video HER nekkid.
There should be only one, universal reaction to this kind of crime (yes, it IS a crime)…
outrage and disgust.
N.O.W. must be proud.
WSometimes they are and sometmes they aaren’t. What is the reason here? I’ll speculate
1) Christine’s a liberal and Erin a conservative;
2) Jealousy, which is what I speculate is insinuated;
3) The hope that such incidents are controllable and that they can thus be prevented, which is what a girlfriend said to me regarding reaction to her rape.
I used to teach self defense classes and found many women choosing to blame the victim in hopes that the victim attracted the unwanted behavior and by doing so, they felt safer because they would never do anything which would make them a victim. It all came down to admitting that the were not safe and were indeed vulnerable. Taking a self defense class would be admitting that they could be a victimized even when they didn’t do anything wrong. It’s all about living in a fantasy world.
I don’t care if Erin Andrews was a Playboy centerfold, she did not “ask” to have a stalker take pictures of her, and she is a victim, and not to blame. That a woman should make this accusation is odd. Let me guess: the columnist isn’t as attractive?
I was thinking a lynch mob. Where is good old frontier justice when you need it?
Christine Brennan is a …? Insert pithy adjective of choice here.
Has there never been a rape of a devout muslim woman who behaves modestly and dresses in full compliance with their code? Somehow I think it has happened.
And when muslim women are raped, they are stoned to restore the family honor.
Is she really a conservative? Don’t know much about her as I refuse to watch ESPN (they worship the Red Sox).
There was a time when fathers, brothers, uncles…somebody…would take care of this kind of conduct.
Now we are more “civilized”…more’s the pity…
Sadly in those instances, the muslim woman is blamed and promptly murdered by her own family for the crime of being raped.
My prayers are with Miss Andrews. The sense of violation she feels must be terrible.
And what is wrong with that?
Wow.
How did she “add perspective” by saying others hadn’t been similarly victimized?
And what exactly did Erin do to “play to the frat house”?
I think there may soon be an opening for a USA TODAY columnist.
Answer: There is no baseball in the American League.
Brennan, jealous much? Of all the people to make such ignorant remarks you wouldn’t think it would be another woman in the business.
I’d like to believe it is something other than jealousy but c’mon. Tale as old as time. Andrews gets a lot of face time because of her looks. In today’s TV world if you have two people that can do a job but one is plain looking and the other is hot it’s a no brainer. Is it right? Maybe not. Is it reality? Yep.
Have pitty on us Massachusetts Conservatives. We have to put up with Kennedy, Kerry and Frank. Let us at least have pride in our baseball team
Can I ask it?
Is it a lesbian thing?
There, I said it – let the postings begin.
If a man had made those comments, they would have already been walked to the door by Human Resources.
Maybe she should wear horn rimmed glasses. But there are guys with a glasses fetish so……
Brennan is an idiot.
Bet we can predict how Tammy Bruce would feel about this violation.
So, no… It isn’t about sex.
I yield to nobody in my attraction to women, but this is completely despicable.
They don’t call em libtards for nuttin. what a flippin tool.
Can anyone back this up with any facts?
Good looking women are OK to target if they choose a certain profession?
My wife is pretty hot but becuase she is a semi-public figure does that give someone the right to treat her differently than you would want your wife or daughter treated?
only liberal women are equal and have rights to privacy. they can kill their unborn children in the name of privacy even if the father disapproves. now that’s privacy. but let a conservative woman be peep upon in a hotel room, and then have pictures put up on the internet, and women say that woman has no right to expect privacy because they may have been photographed before with their consent. this is why men won’t get behind now etc. when an avowed lesbian photographer cajoles a teenage girl to pose nude for her after her father has left the photoshoot, the lesbian is totally exonerated by the lib media, who blame the dad for leaving his daughter. if a male photographer did the same thing, he would be doing time.
Cool, MM is on the same side of this issue with radical feminists. Here’s to Andrews getting a rich settlement.
I think we’re going to need some independent confirmation on that. Got any pics?
JUST KIDDING!
Again…you know her political persuasion how?
What happened to Erin Andrews is beyond despicable. Just disgusting.
It’s even worse than having a woman trying to tell me about football.

ESPN “worships” whichever Northeast team is dominant. If the Bosox were down, and the Yankees were up, they would be the worshipped ones. Same deal if both the Yanks & Sox were down and the Mets were up.
If you’re like me and get megamiffed when the media bow before The One, you’re saving yourself aggravation by eschewing ESPN. I’ve been trying to control my outbursts of anger at open displays of Obamalove recently, but I couldn’t take it when EVERY maddog story about the White Sox’s Mark Buehrle’s perfect game BEGAN and ended with mentioning that the Chisox are “Obama’s team,” all featuring his copycat announcement that Buehrle owes his teammates a steak dinner (In the post-game press conference, Buehrle himself mentioned treating the team when he threw his first no-hitter).
“It’s not about me,” sez He. Nonsense, it’s all about him, 24/7. Frevvinsakes, it’s even about Him when all he did was cheer about someone else’s extraordinary accomplishment after the fact. The only way it could have been worse is if He was actually at U.S. Cellular Field for the game (or, as He has re-named it, “Comminsky Field.”).
That bull/horse/chicken is on top of the nauseating MLB All-Star Game coverage that Obama co-opted last Tuesday. Fox News Channel treats him with skepticism (thank goodness), but Fox Sports couldn’t get enough of him. The Obama interview in the bottom of the second inning had announcers Joe Buck and Tim McCarver — who are paid to comment on what’s happening, y’know, on the field — blowing off covering the action for minutes at a time while the National League scored two runs.
If you have the game on video or TiVo/DVR, check it out; Buck & McCarver are so moist sitting next to the LOTFW they stopped calling pitches, and didn’t say a word about Chase Utley’s or David Wright’s first times at bat. Wright singled with two out, starting a three-run rally. They only stopped talking with Obama when Shane Victorino hit an RBI single, which McCarver credited to Obama because Victorino got good karma by giving BHO macadamia nuts before the game.
I am NOT making that up.
I wish I could post my evidence of the brown-nosing of the lefty-in-chief on YouTube, but I got busted earlier this week for posting video of my Giants’ Jonathan Sanchez’s no-hitter, which is “owned” by MLB.
Apparently there’s no baseball in the National League either. (re: All Star game)
The fact that a liberal columnist blames a victim for the crime.
The fact that POTUS thinks the Cambridge police dept acted stupidly by responding to a break in call.
The fact that all liberals think that being a community organizer qualifies one to be POTUS but being governor of Alaska doesn’t qualify one to be VPOTUS.
I could do this all day.
Funny. I scanned that site and never saw a word about this story.
Huh…

aaahhh yep – that’s why we have so many pediophiles roaming the streets today seeking whom they will devour.
Chap – do no even ask me to back this up. Anyone who was alive prior to 1967 know this is true.
Heh! +1
She better not slander the pervert that video-ed her. She might get busted for a Hate Crime! I’m sure he’s a protected class now.
There fixed it for you!

So is the identity of the Peeping Tom known?
http://faithandfear.blogharbor.com/blog/_archives/2009/6/17/4224664.html
Yes, but I and mine are still not happy with their performance lately – the Red Sox, that is. I’ve never been happy with the aforementioned pols.
By the by, you’re not the last conservative in the Bog State; one of the few perhaps, the proud, but not the last.
I don’t know Fly, seems the blogger had more issues with the Mets than anything else. Plus even he, considered the Red Sox glamourous.
“I don’t automatically dismiss the non-glamour matchups, a.k.a. any that don’t involve the Yankees or Red Sox.”
Attention Ms. Brennan:
Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt!
So I’ve learned. But I WAS first to think up the name
Brennan is without a doubt, blaming Erin Andrews for bringing this on herself.
I see she is associated with ABC News and NPR and worked for some time at the Washington Post. So it is not surprising given her associations with these leftist media outlets that she would take this position on this issue.
*I love the female figure as much as the next guy, but the Peeping Tom perp puts men back in the stone age with his actions; He needs to be severely punished and men in general need to man up and place the blame where it belongs, with the perp, so that dim bulbs like Christine Brennan will see the light.
*Like I always say, it’s easy for a man to be a male, but it takes some effort for a man to be a man!
I really like that saying. Mind if I steal it? It will come in handy teaching my grandsons to be men. I wish I had it when my sons were growing up.
“O, beware, my lord, of jealousy! It is the green-eyed monster, which doth mock The meat it feeds on.”
–Iago Othello
Not sure, but she very well could be. She’s a UF grad, and they tend to lean right a bit.
And you know she is a liberal columnist how?
“Jealousy, that dragon which slays love under the pretence of keeping it alive.”
Havelock Ellis
walterc: You’re welcome to it; I came up with it to remind myself always of my place as a loving husband and father, and the rewards that follow in doing the right thing.
I just loved the title.
Pity me; the lone lifelong Dodger fan surrounded by Cubs fanatics.
abc, npr, not exactly bastions of conservative thought. I was going to go with “Cuz she ain’t hot, but a pic I found belies that. Hmmm, must be an anomaly.
She’s a sports writer, for Pete’s sake. She will go where they… you know…report sports. If you want to exclude her from every news outlet you consider “liberal” her choices would be what?
Also, where do Kristol, Krauthhammer work?
Would Christine Brennan also blame an 8-year-old girl for being raped by 4 boys? This girl’s parents in Phoenix did:
News reports fail to mention that these parents from West African are muslim. Anyone surprised?
USA Today = NewspaperLite
Nothing that happens to the perpetrator of the video taping will be enough. Oh, wait. Here’s a plan. Sentence the peeper to living 24/7 with Christine Brennan and he gets to bring a camera. Wonder how much Ms. Brennan would blame herself?
Fair enough.
My eldest brother was quite surprised to discover that we actually have conservative talk radio here – he recalls the days when WRKO was more left leaning. I had a little fun telling him that they carry both Laura Ingraham and Rush.
Don’t forget WTKK with Michael Graham and Jay Severin. Although Jay is more Libertarian.
Well they look at Andrews, and know that there is no way she is a Democrat, so they figure attacking her is appropriate.
20 years in a room with Hellen Thomas. Oh the humanity!
I am sure if a rich feminist has a child, MM support that also. See she is fair minded.
New guidelines: Pantsuits and cropped hair are now mandatory for all female reporters. No touching players of the opposite sex and no playful banter during interviews. Otherwise, you’re asking for it.
I see Brennan’s point ever so slightly, but her advice/suggestions should have been sent privately to Andrews in an e-mail or in person, not voiced in tweets or on radio shows in the condescending fashion she used.
Agreed; as a female who (in younger days) garnered her fair share wolf whistles and guys walking into walls (husband witnessed one such event and still talks about it, to the point of bragging)
I never thought of those things as demeaning the way the NOW gang would like us to think – I wonder where Ms. Brennan comes down on the subject? (rhetorical question alert)
But being photographed surreptitiously as this Peeping Tom did to Miss Andrews is demeaning, not to mention illegal. I hope they prosecute the b**tard and she sues him for invasion of privacy or whatever other statute they can think of (one of the rare times I’d be on the side of a *blood-sucking lawyer*)
I’m with waltrec in liking – no, loving this quote. Just like I love a good man.
Gaaack!
Oh, I’m not forgetting either one. The point of reference was my brother recalling how liberal WRKO used to be – and he’s old enough to remember when there were no FM stations like WTKK (gasp! so am I!)
Christine Brennan is a bitter shrew who for no reason other than affirmative action is inflicted on the sports pages.
She just can’t stand the fact that Erin Andrews is a very beautiful woman, and doesn’t hide it under a sack.
OK, I had no idea who these people were. So, I did a Yahoo images search of Erin.
The hits also included “Erin Andrews hot” You get the picture.
But Yahoo Images only showed head shots of Christine Brennan.
Jake
Yes, oh yes, the green-eyed monster has reared it’s ugly head in this case. Working with a lot of women, I see this all the time. Brennan should be ashamed.
What, is Erin Andrews a Republican or something?
But five bucks says that if she dressed more conservatively she’d be an “uptight prude” or something.
Didn’t she see the commercial,
“Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Beautiful”
When most women are violated they do retreat into dressing down I had a friend who was raped and stopped going out, dressed differently and retreated from socializing .So witch woman may get her wish!
I wonder what the womens movement has to say about these comments from this “liberal”
manpiece of sh*tA comment or two of my own:
1. This woman is gorgeous and has the right to flaunt it to her heart’s content.
2. I am all for sexual freedom and the right to be able to speak freely about such things (as evidenced by a battle I participated in here recently), but what this a-hole did is far outside the realm of anything covered by any right he would possess, and is a clear violation of this woman’s own rights as well. Punish him to the fullest extent.
3. Anyone who would try to blame this woman for what has happened is a lunatic. Her “crime” is simply undressing in her hotel room. This is like trying to blame the rape victim for flaunting her beauty in public and saying that causes people to act in violent ways. What a load of crap.

USA Today columnist Christine Brennan is a jerk-easy enough
Sometimes you will hear one of her fellow jerks state some women was “asking for it” when raped.
In that case you knew EXACTLY who you were dealing with-a want to be-or actual- rapist. The same is true of USA Today columnist Christine Brennan.
“Blame the victim” is wrong when the victim is a female reporter. It also is wrong when the victim is an American POW captured by the Taliban. Let’s be consistent.
@lgm
I’d agree if the reporter was doing something stupid, like walking out and about naked and was filmed. She was in the privacy of her room, and was filmed.
This is totally different from Private Bowe Bergdahl’s case, but I guess that’s lost on you.
And of course, the writer will get no backlash for this. She’s in the state run media. She may as well have immunity from everything.
Libs are jealous of the pretty girl, so as usual she will always be to blame.
Oooh – way to compare apples and kumquats, lgm.
.45 ACP JHP round?
Sounds like “she” (the reporter) is jealous.
In a nation where misogyny, violence, and hate are considered “fair game” in so many of our communities, “common decency” is sadly dead. Standards for behavior that used to be considered essential for a thriving, vibrant people have been thrown into the sewer, in favor of stuff that that the left calls “real.”
It is a culture of death, because in its natural progression, communities that have embraced it are dying. They are crime-ridden, uneducated, paranoid, populated with unmarried mothers and fatherless children, roaming their streets looking for the next means to satisfy their basest desires. They are also ending an enormous number of their pregnancies in abortion, and thus lowering their notion of the value of human life.
And this is solely a leftist phenomenon. They feed into it in order to create people who are perpetually in need, with nothing within their communities to fall back upon. Their maintaining power in the country is dependent upon the crime-ridden, blood-soaked urban areas of the country, that are, naturally, the “bluest” spots you will find. Where culture has degenerated into the most base, barbaric notions of “standards” for what is and isn’t acceptable, the Democratic Party has ruled for many a decade, with no end in sight.
That is a simple, straightforward fact. It cannot be refuted.
Sisterhood, schmisterhood. This is why I don’t buy the crap left-wing feminism is selling.
Sounds like a “journalist” who needs to follow the example of her fearless leader and “recalibrate” her comments.
Andrews must be related to a Republican or something.
Christine Brennan and Bonnie Erbe (left) ought to be made to wear burkas. After all, they should live up to the societal dictates the offer are correct. They should wear them not because they are unattractive but to hide the beauties and therefore not inflame the brutes to attack them. Stand by the sisters, Ms Brennan and Ms Erbe.
I think all the ESPN women are cool. I like them all.
Well, maybe not all.
Any woman who looks good without horned rim glasses will also look good with horned rims glasses, especially if she…..oh, …never mind.LOL
