Unscrupulous borrowers: Democrats Dodd & Conrad knew about VIP treatment
They lied.
They lied.
They lied.
Let’s repeat that one more time:
They lied:
Despite their denials, influential Democratic Sens. Kent Conrad and Chris Dodd were told from the start they were getting VIP mortgage discounts from one of the nation’s largest lenders, the official who handled their loans has told Congress in secret testimony.
Both senators have said that at the time the mortgages were being written they didn’t know they were getting unique deals from Countrywide Financial Corp., the company that went on to lose billions of dollars on home loans to credit-strapped borrowers. Dodd still maintains he got no preferential treatment.
Dodd got two Countrywide mortgages in 2003, refinancing his home in Connecticut and another residence in Washington. Conrad’s two Countrywide mortgages in 2004 were for a beach house in Delaware and an eight-unit apartment building in Bismarck in his home state of North Dakota.
Robert Feinberg, who worked in the Countrywide’s VIP section, told congressional investigators last month that the two senators were made aware that “who you know is basically how you’re coming in here.”
The last chapter of Culture of Corruption highlights President Obama’s embrace of corruptocrat Chris Dodd as a shining symbol of the Hope and Change farce. He endorsed Dodd’s 2010 re-election bid earlier this year by praising the Connecticut Democrat’s “extraordinary record of accomplishment.”
But Dodd’s career epitomizes the most fetid aspects of Washington’s culture of corruption. It’s a textbook case of nepotism, self-dealing, back-scratching, corporate lobbying, government favors, entrenched incumbency, and hypocrisy.
Everything you need to know about the befouling of the Beltway swamp can be found in the rise and fall of Chris Dodd—and in Barack Obama’s affirmation of his “extraordinary record of accomplishment.”

“This just in: Sun rises in the East. Film at 11.”
“If a Democrat speaks in the forest, and no one hears him (her), is it still a Lie?”
The city named after General George Washington has been turned into a cesspool by crooked rats like Dodd and his ilk. Calling them liars is being kind. Dodd and the rest are a cancer, they are killing our Republic.
Well, well what have we here? Lets hope Dodd made a statement to that effect under oath…….. Paging Patrick Fitzgerald.
It’s simple, really. They also have ears, so there are always ears to hear, and therefore it’s always a lie. Of course, they have themselves thoroughly convinced that everything they do is the “right” thing, no matter how dishonest, and any lie they tell is justified by their “good” intentions.
dodd much like frank and rangel are pathological liars. this whole administration from zero on down, are liars and unethical.
Look up Dodd’s father in wikipedia. The nut doesn’t fall too far away from the tree.

It’s more like, if a Democrat lies and the main stream media doesn’t report it, is it still a lie? Apparently not when your party is in power. It seems to work for Obama.
I hope to god this is the end of Dodd.
To see this guy and Barney Frank demoagogue about while they were instrumental in creating the sub-prime mortgage crisis and in overseeing Walstreet all along makes me sick.
Is anyone in the MSM reporting about Obama’s lie when he made the following promise put out in a White House fact sheet?
That was more than 90 days ago, and what cuts have they announced? Instead, their budgets, along with the number of czars, have increased. Once he makes a promise we’re just supposed to forget about it. The MSM is doing their part to comply.
The easiest way to track Obama’s lies is to just see if his lips are moving.
Yea, and guess who Conrad’s most famous tenant is (besides himself) in this 8 unit 50′s style apt building; none other than ND’s other Democrat Senator – Byron Dorgan.
That’s right, both of ND’s Senators maintain the “appearance” of ND home ownership with their names on 2 mailboxes of a dumpy apt building Conrad owns. Meanwhile, they maintain posh residences (I refer you to Conrad’s other Countrywide mortgage, the $900k beach home in Delaware) in other states.
Since Conrad owns more property in Delaware than North Dakota, it would seem he should be running for Joe Biden’s vacated seat instead of prolonging the “mis-representation” of the people of North Dakota.
To me the single most depressing and dispiriting event of the whole of the 2008 election season was the re-election of John Murtha. Everyone knows the man is a dictionary definition of corruption. He insults his constituents repeatedly. The Republican field a near perfect candidate. And Murtha still wins. Therefore . . .
I’ll believe it when it see it and offhand my guess is that Dodd will be re-elected. The American people are getting the government they deserve, as good a definition of democracy as any I know. And using my psychic powers, I believe they will continue to get the government they deserve.
I am shocked.
So would I, however the media will protect him.
OK, I’m no lawyer, but, isn’t there something illegal about this? Actually against legal code, not too mention the rules of conduct, moral turpitude (stop laughing, I know it is rather silly to use the word “moral” while discussing most democrats.)
Were they Republicans, they would be up for impeachment, and Republican voters would be calling on them to resign.
Teach: the most frustrating thing about the corruption that permeates our government isn’t the criminality but the fact that so much of the corruption is legal. In our entrenched criminal class of corrupt weasels, virtue is THE vice to be avoided. It’s just one big money grab once elected.
The anti-Vietnam classic “I Think I am Fixin to Die Rag” by Country Joe and the Fish, contains the lyrics, “I believe in God and Senator Dodd, and puttin ole Castro down…..” That is his father.
Yep, Father and son are no different.
I hold creatures that swim on their backs, at the bottom of ponds, with more regard.
I’m shocked to think that upstanding members’ of Congress could ‘lie through their teeth’ to the American people. Why it seems as if they were so polished at it, they may have been lying to us for years. Naaaahhhhh. Couldn’t be. Could it?
Term Limits!!!
I didn’t think that Kent Conrad was smart enough to lie. The people of North Dakota keep sending him to Washington simply because if they didn’t he’d be politicking on a state or local level where he could really screw up people’s lives.
As for Dodd – just picture everything you think of lgm, just ambulatory.
Teach, I’m pretty sure that a prosecutor could make a case that these people accepted a bribe from Countrywide Mortgage. The question is, will they? I’m thinking no.
I’m somewhat curious to know who ELSE got VIP treatment, It MUST have been a common practice for them since they had an entire department devoted to it.
As I often do when coming across a story like this, I chec ked to see what the DUmmies at DU were saying about. I used the search function at their site and came up with one, count ‘em, one thread. It had only two people posting comments. The first comment was directed at the person who posted the article and it said, I kid you not “What have you got against Chris Dodd?” LOL! Whenever I do this comparative site viewing I am never disappointed at the way the liberals avoid even bringing the negative subject, whatever it is, up. Take the recent scandals and arrests in NJ. Most of the comments at DU were carefully worded and nearly everyone went to great lengths not to mention the word “Democrat” at all. Many people did comment that since they were corrupt and arrested they were obviously “conservative”, no matter what party they belonged to. As you might expect, they did not hesitate for an instant to mention the lone Republican caught up in the arrests. I am serious folks, you can’t make this stuff up. LOL! While I am not a republican, (Reg. Ind.), I am a conservative guy. And although I can not name specifics at this late hour, I do know that here and at many other conservative sites corrupt politicians and other public offials are not given any slack when caught, nor is their party affiliation hidden. Guess conservatives are just old fashioned that way. We seem to be more cognizant of the fact that there really is right & wrong, good & bad, and that many things are clearly black & white. Liberals seem to always want to avoid the simple clear truth. So what will happen to Conrad & Dodd as a result of this revelation? I predict nothing at all.
You are kidding, right? That would require him being held to account for his lies and damn lies. Not happening in our lifetime.
2010 isn’t as far away as you might think. Meaning Dodd and his ilk will be coming back to DC to do as much harm to this country as possible and lie, cheat and steal their way to enriching themselves and their cronies.
The Democrat Party is a criminal enterprise.
To paraphrase that old joke …
How can you tell if a Democratic is lying? …
Their lips are moving …
The legally and morally challenged in Washington are the single bigest problem this country has.
SOLUTION: Remove the financial part of being a politician.
These are supposed to be servants representing the people. They should make the same salary as the average in their state AND should be limited to no more than two terms.
If you notice, the only people that make money regardless of the issue or what side they are on is the politicians. They always win.
Change the game. Take the financial profits out of it and dump the lifetime crooks that run our country.
I’m not sayin’ that Dodd has ever killed anybody, (that I know about) but doesn’t his lifetime of personal achievement also entitle him to be another Democrat “Lion of the Senate?”
Kudos to the liberal Hartford papers for staying on this pantload, even though they will probably end up endorsing him like they did with the crooked, indicted, gang-leader mayor of Hartford.
It must be fun being a democrat in a criminal operation…or did I get that backwards?
Isn’t it a bribe to get a deal like this?
I see, if it involves a DemocRat, the hearings are held in secret. If it involves our national security, the hearings are front page, above the fold of the NYT.
No one got a VIP loan without knowing
I can guarantee that.
It was a prize and still is.
off topic, I know, but has anyone else heard the story out of NC regarding the FBI arrest of ‘American’ jihadis?
Secret hearings, why are they secret? The only reason I can come up with is, so they can cover it up. In my opinion the legislative branch of this government has 535 unscrupulous politicians joined at the hip to bilk the American people.
Dodd and Conrad are just two of the LIARS and THIEVES in politics. Society has always had too many LIARS and THIEVES but there is more money to steal and then lie about today. Sadly all too often the thieving is not illegal–these are the people who write the laws. Not too many years ago we had the House Banking scandal with House members using the House Bank to float no interest loans to themselves. A few congresscritters lost their seats but not much else.
We are told most of these people go into politics to do good-if that is tue I do not know but the allure of money, power and privilege seems to corrupt most of them. We had Bill Clinton using the power of the Presidency to assault Juanita Brodderick and Kathleen Willey, as governor he dropped his pants in front of Paula Jones. But as a Powerful Person he got a free ride. Senator Edward Kennedy walked away from a fatal accident without legal repercussions.
We could make all this a Democrat-Republican issue and to a degree it is at the moment. But the bigger issue is we as a people have become all too tolerant of corruption and abuse of the Pretty and the Powerful.
A 19 year old runs a stop sign and kills someone he may well go to prison-Ted Kennedy does murder and gets re elected. Any of you bounce 30 checks in a month the BEST that will happen is a big penalty and they close you account–you might go to jail.If a store manager dropped his pants in front of an employee he is just likely to get fired and go to jail–the feminist justified Clinton doing so and called Paula Jones White Trash.
We have allowed our elected officials too much power, prestige and immunity. This is not good in a Republic.
So it took Congress SIX years, give or take, to figure out that Dodd, the head of the Banking Committee was a corrupt act, but they feel qualified to ram through a couple of 1000+ page bills before their August recess?
Simply amazing. But not unexpected.
Obama will endorse ANYONE who makes him look better!
FIFO (Fixed It For Obama)
Hey everyone, a new game, lets FIFO some other things…..
Fix one of Obama’s quotes and you too can play the FIFO game
I am absolutely salivating at the thought of reading MM’s book!!! On the other hand, it will probably frighten me even more than I already am. Who remains uncorrupted to put these people in jail where they belong? I pray for a few brave souls. Perhaps it will take the military to haul these criminals away.
God, why do we have to put up with the antics of these evil people? They need to be tarred and feathered like they did in part one of John Adams.
I am listening to Glenn Beck, and our MM will be on his show in about 1/2 hour. That is about 9:45 a.m. or so…Central Time.
Of course they lie….? who would expect anything else from “them”…And of course you can expect nothing else from them when in the course of events Michelle, Ann, Rush or who ever shines the light of truth at them….they respond like the blinded creatures they are?
We could make all this a Democrat-Republican issue and to a degree it is at the moment. But the bigger issue is we as a people have become all too tolerant of corruption and abuse of the Pretty and the Powerful.
Thank you – Arizona for this comment.
No incumbents both parties! We must demand, not ask, these people to be HONEST. Until we hold them PUBLICLY to ridicule and scandal, their sleazy lying will not stop. Write a letter to the editor of your paper naming names and crimes; eventually something will get published.
I agree. Dodd is no amateur in politics. He will sing and dance his way around this and with the protection of his fellow congress-slimeballs he will skate all the way to the bank.
Ethics.
Elitism
Trumps
Honor
In
Congress, and
Senate
A “D” after your name insures that no criminal prosecution will be initiated against you, for any crime short of murder. If nothing else, after much public outcry, hands will be slapped, and promises to alter behavior will be declared, in the name of justice and compromise, AND in exchange for NOT having to relinquish one’s precious committee assignment.
This is just another example of “change” we cannot count on. These next election cycles, American voters MUST insist on a national move toward the principle of “Up and Out.” These basking sharks need to disappear from the public scene…if not by legal action, then by voter action.
right_on: Two words — Teddy Kennedy
I know, it was probably manslaughter (a little lawerly help here, chap), but someone is D-E-A-D, dead! There was one person who could have prevented that outcome and he is now the “lion of the Senate.”
What would you expect Dodd or Conrad two typical crooked dems. That’s not to say the right does not have bad guys, but for some reason the right banishes the wrong doers, but not the left.
I keep reading on this site “throw ‘em all out in 2010″. Now do you really want to get rid of the very good people in the congress on hopes you’ll get the same or better? Vittner, Coburn, Imhofe, Sessions and DeMint are a few of the best, I hate to see them removed, hell, they are keeping us in the game so far. Possibly the “…all out…” is an emotional reaction to not surprising numbers of crooked politicians in giverment now.
The minute you are taken upstairs in your bank you are treated differently.
As a VIP customer you immediately are told you now have an account executive to deal with. You are told you do not have to speak with a loan officer. A loan officer will be sent up to take some details for the loan from you but you never have to go back down to the 1st floor for any of your banking needs.
You are told all your bank fees on your accounts like your checking and savings are waived.
If you have any questions you are told to call your personal account rep. You are told specifically not to talk to the loan officer about anything.
You are told many things all of which sound great and are great.
You know from the start that you are a VIP customer from then on.
And yes there are even different layers of VIP.
Friends of Andrew Mozilo is about as VIP as you could get. And still need a home loan. There are of course VIP’s who would not need such little loans as these guys got.
The problem I have with the
“throw them all out movement” is that everyone always seems to want to start with the republicans.
Start with the dems and I’m in.
To me, it’s not about getting rid of “very good people.” It’s about getting rid of the very core of the problem. The system that keeps turning out corrupt-o-cratic thoughts and actions.
Both parties have their fair share of manipulators and bad players. The ones that are decent, put themselves in the “bad” category when they do nothing to stop their peers who cheat, lie, and steal from the American people. Those are the inept enablers. The ones who claim to have no power to correct the system, seemingly looking the other way as the blue and crimson plague rolls along.
I’ve had enough of their business as usual, and claim that they can do a better job. Most have had enough chances to make positive impacts, and only now move to act, realizing their jobs are in jeopardy.
A fresh crop of new ideas from a different kind of politician may or may not make a difference. I am willing to take that chance. I mean, look who we have trying to lead the country now…a rank amateur, who is filled with animus, loathing, and treachery. And that’s just Michelle Obama.
We can, and must do better.
I agree therefore I suggest that we donate money, volunteer time and effort to republicans in order to defeat as many democrats as possible
And if we lose in some of the races, we then plan, prepare and repeat every election going forward
And if your district or state already has a republican office holder go outside your own area and help the folks there with time effort and money
lion of the Senate; So that is how they spell lyin’ in New England!
I remember Killer Kennedy all upset and whining at the 1976 Democratic Party Convention because he could not get the nomination for President-he was walking around the podium in an indignant huff and all the while there were people in every state in this country in jail for leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Special Privilege for Special People? Dodd & Conrad are just keeping the tradition going–so big of them.
WOW..Right on #49 – perfect post of the day! My thoughts exactly. Maybe there are some “good” Congressional reps out there, but they don’t correct their fellows and tolerate, tolerate, tolerate all kinds of lying, cheating, and bribery. Our country is at stake here. If we don’t get these bums out (and I mean all of them) it is OUR fault. We need to tell them THEY WEREN’T STRONG ENOUGH, ETHICAL ENOUGH, PATRIOTIC ENOUGH to want what’s best for America. Please, no excuses for them. NO INCUMBENTS REELECTED!!!!
