Pelosi: The meltdown

By Doug Powers  •  July 30, 2009 03:19 PM

It’s happening — opposition to Hope and Change™ is starting to take its toll. Nancy Pelosi is starting to act like somebody spiked her Botox with traces of arsenic, and the descent into paranoid madness is somewhat reminiscent of Captain Queeg on the witness stand in The Caine Mutiny:

U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday ramped up her criticism of insurance companies, accusing them of unethical behavior and working to kill a plan to create a new government-run health plan.

“It’s almost immoral what they are doing,” Pelosi said to reporters, referring to insurance companies. “Of course they’ve been immoral all along in how they have treated the people that they insure,” she said, adding, “They are the villains. They have been part of the problem in a major way. They are doing everything in their power to stop a public option from happening.”

The Speaker will prove without a shadow of a doubt — and with geometric logic — that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox did exist, but the private insurance companies took it!

Pelosi also said that private insurers oppose government health care because “they don’t want the competition.” The government doesn’t want competition either, Nance — that’s why people like Bernie Madoff are rotting in prison.

Nancy scoffs at her poll numbers (she’s tied in the popularity ratings with O.J. Simpson and genital herpes), but that certainly can’t be a comfort for her collegues up for re-election in districts that aren’t as safe as hers, and neither are polls like this:

The New York Times/CBS poll shows:

Sixty-nine percent of respondents believe Obama’s plan will hurt the quality of their own healthcare.

Seventy-three percent believe it would limit their access to tests and treatment.

Sixty-two percent believe Democrats’ proposals would require them to change doctors.

Seventy-six believe healthcare reform will lead to them paying higher taxes.

A whopping 77 percent expect their healthcare costs to rise.

Darn those private insurance companies!

Incidentally, if you vote out an old liberal pollutant next November, you’ll qualify for a rebate under the private-sector’s answer to the Cash for Clunkers program.

So when people try to defraud those insurance companies, they are actually doing social justice? Like Robin Hood? Cool! I could do a slip and fall with a big medical claim in Walmart and get those evil corporate retailers too, two social justice birds with one stone, ya know. Then I could sue the doctor for malpractice and really get my social activist career going. Thanks for the idea Nan!

In a week during which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi paints private health insurers with a broad brush, claiming they oppose government health care because “they don’t want the competition”, I am realizing the benefits of that competition, finally canceling an HMO with one carrier which, just in the past five years doubled my premiums.

I have found a new plan with another carrier, 45% less expensive than my old plan. Yes, I’ll have to pay more for doctor visits, but given how infrequently I go to the doctor, I’ll still be saving a lot (a real lot) of money. And I even have dental coverage with my new plan, something I did not have with my old carrier.

Had I gone to an insurance broker earlier than I had, I could have saved as much as $5,000 over the past four years alone. My mistake was not realizing the extent of the industry competition and only trying to get a new plan with my old carrier. Only when I discussed my options with a friend who happens to be an insurance broker (whom I owe a steak dinner–more on this anon) did I realize the options available to me.

It seems that many of those who, like Mrs. Pelosi, decry the health insurance industry are unaware of the choices we have.

So far those “villains” have managed to provide the best health care in the world, cheaper and at a profit for themselves. Sounds like it’s working the way it was designed to work. Now if the Botox Queen would just secure the borders, those “uninsureds” numbers might drop back down to where they belong.

    Just sayin’.

This woman is psychotic on many levels. She’s not only a delusional paranoid, but is a pathological liar to boot.

But, her nutty constituency in San Francisco continues to re-elect her. It is truly amazing she has remained in office as long as she has. The same could be said for Babs Boxer.

One looks at all the wack-jobs from California that are in charge at the Federal level… Pelosi, Waxman, Miller, Waters, Boxer… to name a few.. and then you look at the stellar job their home state has done with the management of that state’s business.

Highest tax rates… bankrupt government… people and businesses leaving in droves… that’s what we have to look forward to on a National level if things keep going the way they are going.

Yes… the inmates are definitely in charge of the asylum.

But its Boooosh! The polls showed people blame the bad economy on Bush still. What do you know, the next day Obama is out there blaming Bush saying Obamas detractors have no shame.

The shame is on you Obama. You voted for all this stuff that you attribute to Bush. How unpresidential to blame others. That indicates a complete lack of leadership. Real leaders do not do that. They suck it up. What a shameless loser. I am beginning to hate his guts. I already can’t stand his policies. Now he is making it personal.

OK. So, what’s the problem? It’s called lobbying.

I guess in Pelosi-land you can only lobby in favor of Dem’s.

    …accusing them of unethical behavior…

Boy if that isn’t the pot calling the kettle…

If you lobby against the Dem’s you get accusations of unethical behavior thrown at you. It’s a wonder she can accuse someone else of unethical behavior without falling over dead.

Watch and see if she looks down and to the left, down and to the left.
