Cornyn to Obama: Disband the Internet Snitch Brigade
Texas GOP Sen. John Cornyn sent a letter today to President Obama asking him to disband the Internet Snitch Brigade run out of the health care czar’s office immediately.
The Hill has the full text of the letter (read here):
“By requesting citizens send ‘fishy’ emails to the White House, it is inevitable that the names, email, addresses, IP addresses and private speech of U.S. citizens will be reported to the White House,” Cornyn wrote in a letter to Obama. “You should not be surprised that these actions taken by your White House staff raise the specter of a data collection program.”
Cornyn asked Obama to cease the program immediately, or at the very least explain what the White House would do with the information it collects.
The Anchoress reminds us of when the Left went nuts over Bush/Cheney post-9/11 programs to combat terrorism:
Anyone recall how, after 9/11 -after we’d been attacked in NYC and DC- the Bush Administration said: “If you see anything suspicious, you ought to report it,” causing conniptions on the left? How dare the Bushies ask people to snitch for security reasons! Now, for mere policy, that has become an acceptable, “if you see/hear anything disobedient, be the tattletale.”
Lots of bloggers are taking part in Operation Go Flag Yourself — flooding the Internet Snitch Brigade with e-mails turning themselves in for health care hate crimes or turning Team Obama in for “fishy” misinformation. I did my part yesterday. How about you?

‘What would they DO with the reported names/information?’
Depends on a couple of upcoming Bills…
“Fishy” spreading of “Disinformation” – well, that would be ‘suspicious’, wouldn’t it – and could someone decide that opposing Universal Healthcare is ‘Dangerous to human life’?
That could be problematic if HR 2159, granting the AG the discretion to make such determinations and keep the reasons/information secret, is passed into law.
And of course, if Alcee Hastings’ Amendment to Defense Authorization Bill HR 2647 slides through, the AG would also be given the latitude to determine whether a “Fishy” person is part of a ‘group espousing an expectation’ that the American people won’t put up with much more of this – whereafter he could designate them a ‘hate-group’ – wonder what they could do with that?
And once you’ve got that all nailed-down – really, wouldn’t a disruption/derailing of Universal Healthcare also be a matter of “Women, Minorities Hardest Hit”?
Then clearly the S. 909 Hate-Crime Bill would HAVE to be selectively applied, don’t you think?
Oh yeah – nothing to worry about here…
I e-mailed them again and told them that I thought Hr-3200 was fishy. I said any bill that starts with Dingell, Rangel, and Waxman was very scary and certainly fishy. Said Rangel wants single-payer public option and so does President Obama and that their site was lying about it. Also told them spying on your friends and neighbors smacks of nazism. Ended with they were violating the law(constitution), but they seem to do this without a care. What scum.
