Lanny Davis wants you photographed and investigated

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 5, 2009 03:10 PM

The consigliere to the Clinton thugocracy decries the taxpayer counterinsurgency — and calls on left-wing hitmen to photograph and investigate Obamacare protesters to prove that they are being “paid” by the “Republican right” to express their opinions and demand accountability from their congressional representatives (never mind that so many of these protests have been aimed at Republicans who have betrayed their principles).

Via Politico:

The “shout downs” organized by the Republican right meet one of the classic definition of “fascist” tactics–defined as using shouting and disruption to deprive the civil and respectful debate of ideas. There is literally no defense to these tactics. I don’t criticize those who feel genuine anger or fear and show up to meetings to express those emotions. But I do call out the tactic of screaming and disrupting a meeting and the fact that this is a systematic tactic by thugs who want to prevent civil discourse, not promote it.

Let’s have the media name names, publish photographs, and do interviews of those responsible for approving, even organizing these techni[q]ues. And let’s find an investigative journalist – are there many left – to prove these so-called grassroots shouters are, or are not, being paid.

Wear your best Brooks Brothers shirt and say cheese!

No American has a right to expression totally without consequence.

The 1st Amendment limits government intrusion into our speech, but does not protect us totally from private repercussions for using our rights to expression.

Lanny the Slut’s call for press examination of anti-Oba-mao people is not a violation of our 1st Amendment rights. It is a lot of other things, but not that.

We’re not paid minions of any corporate interest or lobby. Most bloggers working to stop the Obama health-care disaster are like me, writing when they can find the time, because we care about the future of our country. The same is true of the people showing up at town hall meetings, and organizing rallies. Some of us are well-dressed in tailored suits. Others wear jeans and T-shirts. Most of us are dressed in what we wore to work.

Our support for a massive government program does not increase when you tell us we’re not allowed to ask questions about it.

We’re not racists. We’re also not racialists. We don’t think a wise Latina is inherently more qualified to do anything than a wise Asian woman, a wise white woman, or a wise white man. We’re tired of being fed excuses for high government offices staffed by anything but the best people for the job. There are too many high government offices, so we’d like some of Obama’s absurdly incompetent appointees to take their titles with them when they leave. We remember what it was like when we got rid of the Clinton mob, so we’ll be conducting inventories on the contents of those vacated offices, before we turn out the lights and pour cement in the locks.

ABC seems to think the outrage is real, surprisingly:

There were no lobbyist-funded buses in the parking lot of Mardela Middle and High School on Tuesday evening, and the hundreds of Eastern Maryland residents who packed the school’s auditorium loudly refuted the notion that their anger over the Democrats’ health care reform plans is “manufactured.”
“I went to school in this school,” a man named Bob told me. “I don’t see anyone in this room that isn’t from Mardela Springs right now.”
“We’ve been quiet too long,” said a woman named Joan…
“I am here because I understand that I do represent you folks, okay?” Kratovil said, after entering the auditorium to applause. “The opinions that you folks have, I need to know. There are legitimate concerns.”
Just then, someone in the audience shouted back, “Our freedom is being taken from us!”…
“You’re deceiving us! You’re trying to shove this stuff through,” one woman yelled.
“I’m not! But I hear you,” Kratovil pleaded.
“This bill is un-American,” said another voter, who asked whether Kratovil has read it.
“I am reading it right now,” he said.

I just sent my email to flag@whitehouse.gov:

I found this on the Internet, and I feel that the serious disinformation about “healtcare reform” in this letter needs to be addressed.

There’s been a lot of media coverage about organized mobs intimidating lawmakers, disrupting town halls, and silencing real discussion about the need for real health insurance reform.

The truth is, it’s a sham. These “grassroots protests” are being organized and largely paid for by Washington special interests and insurance companies who are desperate to block reform. They’re trying to use lies and fear to break the President and his agenda for change.

The “grassroots protests” in which I’ve participated were organized by local people who did it on their own dime and were not funded by anyone.

Health insurance reform is about our lives, our jobs, and our families — we can’t let distortions and intimidation get in the way. We need to expose these outrageous tactics, and we’re counting on you to help. Can you read these “5 facts about the anti-reform mobs,” then pass them along to your friends and family.

5 facts about the anti-reform mobs

First off, “mobs” would be carrying torches, rails, tar and feathers. So far, none of the actions of concerned citizens have reached that point.

    1. These disruptions are being funded and organized by out-of-district special-interest groups and insurance companies who fear that health insurance reform could help Americans, but hurt their bottom line. A group run by the same folks who made the “Swiftboat” ads against John Kerry is compiling a list of congressional events in August to disrupt. An insurance company coalition has stationed employees in 30 states to track where local lawmakers hold town-hall meetings.

Since when is asking the hard questions about how “healthcare reform” will be funded and why the President, his staff, and the Congress won’t be put under the same system “disrupt[ive]?”

    2. People are scared because they are being fed frightening lies. These crowds are being riled up by anti-reform lies being spread by industry front groups that invent smears to tarnish the President’s plan and scare voters. But as the President has repeatedly said, health insurance reform will create more health care choices for the American people, not reduce them. If you like your insurance or your doctor, you can keep them, and there is no “government takeover” in any part of any plan supported by the President or Congress.

Ri-i-i-ight. Did you notice the change from “healthcare reform” to “health insurance reform?” If you don’t like the result of your polling on the subject you reformulate the question.

    3. Their actions are getting more extreme. Texas protesters brought signs displaying a tombstone for Rep. Lloyd Doggett and using the “SS” symbol to compare President Obama’s policies to Nazism. Maryland Rep. Frank Kratovil was hanged in effigy outside his district office. Rep. Tim Bishop of New York had to be escorted to his car by police after an angry few disrupted his town hall meeting — and more examples like this come in every day. And they have gone beyond just trying to derail the President’s health insurance reform plans, they are trying to “break” the President himself and ruin his Presidency.

You can’t blame the failure of President Obama’s Presidency on us. He’s done it in concert with Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and Harry Reid, not to mention Rahm Emmanuel.

    4. Their goal is to disrupt and shut down legitimate conversation. Protesters have routinely shouted down representatives trying to engage in constructive dialogue with voters, and done everything they can to intimidate and silence regular people who just want more information. One attack group has even published a manual instructing protesters to “stand up and shout” and try to “rattle” lawmakers to prevent them from talking peacefully with their constituents.

The President himself told people to talk to their families, friends, and neighbors, and to “get in their faces.” Supporters of the President do this sort of thing all the time to people who disagree with the President. “Sauce for the goose.”

    5. Republican leadership is irresponsibly cheering on the thuggish crowds. Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner issued a statement applauding and promoting a video of the disruptions and looking forward to “a long, hot August for Democrats in Congress.”

“[T]huggish crowds?” I haven’t seen any ACORN members at Tea Party protests or “healthcare reform” (or is it “health insurance reform?”) protests.

It’s time to expose this charade, before it gets more dangerous. Please send these facts to everyone you know. You can also post them on your website, blog, or Facebook page.

Now, more than ever, we need to stand strong together and defend the truth.

    Thanks,

    Jen

To readers of Michelle Malkin’s blog who responded to my post on Politico earlier in the morning:

I received a number of thoughtful emails and wanted to express my appreciation to those who communicated their sincere concerns. There was a misimpression that I was favor suppression or discouragement of dissent concerning Democratic positions on national health care issues at congressional town hall meetings. This was not my intent. I do not wish in any way investigate, photo, or suppress the opinions of people who show up to these meetings regarding concerns about Democratic health care proposals. Indeed, I welcome that because we need more debate on this important issue.

My post specifically criticized only those who shout down and prevent others from speaking. Indeed, I specifically expressed my respect in that post for those who are genuinely concerned about the health care proposals.

Finally, some sincere people who communicated with me asked whether I had or would condemn those on the left who disrupted meetings or shouted down speakers on the conservative side of the spectrum. The answer is: Yes I would and I have. Publicly.

I believe that thoughtful and civil people on the left and the right share a desire for debate and have respect for other people’s opinions. This is fundamental to a civil society and our great democracy. In my post, I only wished to protest strongly those who believe it is acceptable to attend a meeting for the purpose of disrupting and preventing honest and vigorous debate.

I take the same position if it is people on the left side of the spectrum who use such tactics as those on the right side.

    Sincerely,

    Lanny Davis

Alinsky also said: “make the opposition live by its own rules.”

So OF COURSE the left demands that we “make nice”, because that is what we “do”; civility is one of our values.

But if incivility isn’t called for when one’s economic and personal liberty is on the line I don’t know when it ever is.

Quaere: you think we can politely ask Lanny precisely WHEN we will be free to act as ACORN always has?

    Snork!

It’s too bad they don’t make suppository-sized IEDs. The phrase “shove it” would have a whole new meaning.

The pronouncements of the DNC, the White House Disinformation office, etc. have two charateritics:

    1) The are indicative of Obama’s lifelong behavior.
    2) They are stupid.

I suggest we do everything we can to keep the pressure on the Dear Leader. We have all criticized his lack of experience and his deeply seated ideological roots. He has a thin skin and an ego the size of Montana

WELLLLLLLL ……… time to take advantage of those traits and tendencies. He is responding in the only way he knows and he has a temper. The more angry he is the more mistakes he will make.

If he wins on Sotomayer and Cash for Clunkers who cares. The keys are Cap and Trade and Obamacare. That’s where the fight needs to be taken. Additionally, the exposure of the radicals and corruption among his appointees and groups like ACORN. THERE IS NO ADVANTAGE IN ATTACKING THE PRESIDENT OR HIS WIFE DIRECTLY.

He will get sympathy from that. His buddies, associations, and his socialist plans are a target rich environment for us to exploit and will serve as a reflection of WHO Obama is.

His only hope is to pass his legislation by end of this year. I he cannot he is toast and he knows it. Long term our ideas will carry the day. We need to delay, delay, delay every chance we get while articulating solutions that are based on freedom of choice. If we can provide solutions that retain people’s freedom of choice, Obama loses.

As Davis’s claims indicate, THE LEFT equates all fascism with Naziism, which they portray as being a right-wing, hence “conservative” movement.

They can portray fascism and Nazism as right-wing all they want.

Doesn’t make it so. Their ideology is far closer to Nazi/fascist ideology than anything any American conservative does. Truth be told, they know it. Their portrayal is projection, pure and simple.

    Drudge FLASH:

Senate will vote to confirm Sotomayor at 3:00 PM ET

Please call your Senators and tell them that they cannot vote to confirm Sotomayor until they Support and Defend the Constitution of the United States and put to rest the doubts that the Supreme Court itself acknowledged exist about Obama’s Constitutional eligibility to hold the office of President!

LIE: If Barack Hussein Obama II was born in Hawaii, then he is undoubtedly a “natural born citizen” and Constitutionally eligible to hold the office of President and Commander in Chief.

TRUTH: The United States Supreme Court, in the 1885 case of Minor v Happersett made it clear that the 14th Amendment (by then part of the Constitution) defines citizenship and does not define “natural born citizen“-ship. The Supreme court had doubts that a person in Obama’s situation (born to a foreign father who was never a U.S. Citizen) could be considered a “natural born citizen”. Therefore they had doubts that a person in Obama’s situation could be Constitutionally eligible to be President and Commander in Chief.

The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners. Some authorities go further and include as citizens children born within the jurisdiction without reference to the citizenship of their parents. As to this class there have been doubts, but never as to the first. For the purposes of this case it is not necessary to solve these doubts.”

    - The United States Supreme Court, in the 1885 case of Minor v Happersett

It is now necessary to confirm the details of Obama’s birth and resolve these doubts.

To “support and defend the Constitution of the United States” and put this issue to rest, two very simple, very reasonable things need to happen:

    1) Congress must personally inspect a certified copy of Obama’s original birth certificate, sent to them under seal directly from the State of Hawaii. (Just as was done with the certification of the Electoral College vote)

    2) Congress must ask the Supreme Court to clarify the meaning of the Constitutional phrase “Natural Born Citizen”, so that it can be clearly seen whether or not Barack Hussein Obama II is Constitutionally eligible to hold the office of President and Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces.

Minor v. Happersett’s holding involved a woman’ claim to a right to vote in a state, a claim the court did NOT uphold.

All the stuff about natural -born citizens was “mere dictum”, various statements and assertions that provided a background for the court’s decision.

In some cases such language might offer insights into judicial thinking at the time, but it does not provide precedent for determining the outcome of a future case.

It’s not a good case for birthers to rely on.

    Phht.

If it is determined that Soetoro is not a natural-born citizen, then EVERY decision made by him while in office, as well as while a candidate for office, is null and void.

This includes legislation signed and nominations made – Soto and Biden are no exceptions.

    Who’s joking?

It’s time people woke up to the importance of the birther movement. Even our esteemed host is on the wrong side of the issue. If conservatives were smart, they would have either joined us or remained silent on the issue, in case it were needed (and it looks like it may be) to justify impeachment proceedings and other actions to reverse the damage this evil man has done.

By siding with Soetoro, they have weakened that argument considerably, and done so in a fashion that may very well make it impossible to enforce this very important Constitutional provision.
