The activist Left can’t stand competition. Last week in Long Island, NY, opponents of the Democrats’ government health care takeover legislation outnumbered Obama supporters ten to one. The Tea Party activists toted American flags and signs that read “WE CAN’T AFFORD FREE HEALTH CARE” – prompting one foe to stalk into the peaceful crowd, gesticulate wildly, and shout unintelligible threats at the top of his lungs.
The same Democrat Masters of Astroturf who encouraged their followers to use “in your face” tactics during the campaign season now balk at vocal opposition from their fiscally conservative neighbors and co-workers. Obama’s architects of Kabuki town halls have packed public forums with partisan plants. Now, they accuse opponents gathering at impromptu rallies against the massive health care takeover legislation (which no one has read) of orchestrating “manufactured anger.”
Unaccustomed to pushback, the wealthy, astro-turfed ground troops for Obamacare – underwritten by unions, liberal philanthropists, the AARP, ACORN, and your tax dollars — have resorted to projection. As I’ve reported previously, the single-payer lobby boasts a $40 million budget and a stable of seasoned political operatives based at 1825 K Street in Washington, D.C. Now, that cabal is accusing the broad coalition of taxpayer activists, libertarians, independents, talk radio loyalists, bloggers, and first-time protesters against socialized medicine of being, yes, wealthy and astroturfed.
In a comical missive issued Tuesday afternoon, Democratic National Committee spokesman Brad Woodhouse complained: “The Republicans and their allied groups — desperate after losing two consecutive elections and every major policy fight on Capitol Hill — are inciting angry mobs of a small number of rabid right wing extremists funded by K Street Lobbyists to disrupt thoughtful discussions about the future of health care in America taking place in Congressional Districts across the country.”
The DNC definition of “thoughtful:” Sitting silent about the lack of transparency, deliberation, truth in numbers, and reciprocity on the Obamacare plan. The DNC definition of incitement: Asking out loud, “How can you manage health care when you can’t manage Cash For Clunkers?”
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs, apparently oblivious to the dozens of well-dressed and well-heeled former lobbyists and influence peddlers employed by his own boss, derided health care town hall protesters as the “Brooks Brothers brigade.” Brooks Brothers was also the president’s clothes designer of choice on Inauguration Day. He taunted: “I hope people will take a jaundiced eye to what is clearly the AstroTurf nature of so-called grass-roots lobbying.” Meanwhile, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi dispatched a memo obtained by D.C.-based newspaper Human Events assuring Democrats of “close coordination” with faux grass-roots groups “including but not limited to HCAN, Families USA, AFSCME, SEIU, AARP, etc.”
But never mind all that.
Some panicked congressional targets of the Tea Party movement have responded by shutting their offices, closing their blinds, and shooing pesky constituents off public property. The White House health czar’s office is mustering up Internet snitches to report “inaccurate” blog posts and “casual conversations” from health care opponents. And liberal bloggers and cable yakkers are waging their own war on the Tea Party movement by redefining participatory democracy as “thuggery” and “hooliganism.”
Talking Points Memo blogger Josh Marshall bemoaned a fiscal conservative activist’s memo offering advice on how to “pack the hall..spread out” and challenge a politician early “to rattle him, get him off his prepared script and agenda.” Horrors! “This amounts to a sort of civic vigilanteism,” Marshall fretted.
No, showing up at a congressional town hall and booing a talking points-programmed political hack isn’t “civic vigilantism.” Throwing rocks, pouring cement on train tracks, blocking military shipments, smashing windows, hurling paint, slashing tires, vandalizing businesses, and throwing shoes are vigilante acts.
That is what the anti-war, anti-free trade, anti-Bush mobsters did over the last eight years – and there wasn’t a peep about those brute tactics from Obama’s blogging pals.
They sat quietly while Code Pink disrupted hearings on the Hill and harassed Marine recruiters.
They looked the other way when ACORN illegally broke into homes and stormed foreclosure auctions.
They gave their tacit approval to self-declared “bank terrorists” like Boston housing entitlement organizer Bruce Marks, who show up at the schools of bank executives’ children and bullies them because of their parents’ employment in the name of social justice.
Now, the taxpayers footing the bill for Obama’s redistribution of health and wealth are silent no more – and the unhinged Left is beside itself. The “thoughtful” left-wing response to the Tea Party counterinsurgency can best be summed up by hysterical Hollywood actress Janeane Garafolo, who railed last week: “F**ng redneck d**chebaggery. Unmitigated d**chebaggery.”
It’s not the town halls that have gone wild. It’s the Tea Party-bashers who can’t tolerate peaceful, open dissent.

When the tea party movement began, they laughed at the small numbers. Now that it’s grown, we’re a mob. I am so done with the left and their loonieness it isn’t funny. Talk about a redneck, that gal looks like she just crawed out from under a cow patty and she ate most of it on the way out.

I went to a mtg laste evening with several speakers, the highlight was a man who JUST might unseat Babs Boxer. An earlier speaker from Glenn Beck’s We Surround Them spoke of an idea that is growing on me: they provide recording equipment and we come up with a TownHall in Absentia of a CongressCritter. My local Critter, Mike Honda of San Jose, has on his website that he will ONLY hold a Telephone Mtg on Saturday 8/22. AND THIS IS IN THE LIBERAL BAY AREA. Unbelievable! It matters not that he or his Staff listen to these entire recorded mtgs or if they listen at all. I was part of the SMOG Check II Protests in Sacramento years back and any way to get inside their comfort zone, to rattle their psyche, within the bounds of the Law.
Pardon a SciFi reference, but a slow constant pressure will eventually break a force field. Said another way, Trumpet sounds will crumble fortress walls.
Democrats are so flummoxed because we have been working, taking care of home and harth. They didn’t think we were capable of this. But as the above reference quoted: Awakening the Giant.

I’m proud of those redneck, uneducated people who spent their blood sweat and tears to make this country what it is today. Hollywood, lefties and the elistist can make fun of people who are as real as the earth is itself but they’ve never contributed anything. We should show up at town hall meetings and tea parties in overalls to honor our founding fathers and mothers.

Excellent point. I still contend that there are a fair number of Independents that voted Democrat that may well never do so again since Obama has revealed the Democratic agenda. Couple with more people acknowledging their Conservative beliefs, in the arena of ideas people will be persuadable against Big Gov’t ideas. A future with no job and little prospects will do that to you. Pocket book talking time. Americans are competitive and want to work, not wait in line.

While this seems to be good news, I still see this as too little to late. This should have been done back in November when we had an ELECTION! Plus, out of 350 million people, how many are actively engaged? Not enough.
Elected officials still don’t get the message. We scream at them but they still intend to go back and vote in Gubmint Health Care. They must or Pelosi will ruin them.
How well is the internet being used for organizing and/or fund raising? Howard Dean and Obama used the internet to great effect. Republicans seem to be lagging a little bit on that front. I know our leadership (Steele, Powell? etc) are not doing it effectively. We are very close to being drowned out by the Obama response team.
There should be tea party groups in every zip code and money coming in by the handful to organize and get the word out. My closest one is 20 miles away. Can we attend Obama activist training to learn the tools and then use it against them?
TBone, remember that even at the beginning of this Country, 1/3 of Colonists were against King George, 1/3 were for keeping the status quo.
We are the side with ideas. The other side is into emotion. Humans shy away from negativity and that is all the present Administration is handing out. This is our opportunity. Yes, emotion ruled the day in November. That and a weak Candidate. We have to move on and look forward.
The guy running against Barbara Boxer, Chuck DeVore is leading the way locally, getting adds on Youtube and Facebook and Twitter. We have to pull the Republican Establishment along OR out by their roots and replace them with newer models.
I think it’s absolutely hysterical how the libs are calling us obamacare dissenters “the Brooks Brothers Brigade”. I guess they automatically assume protesters must look like they haven’t bathed in five months and should wear ratty-ass clothing.

I am beyond disgusted with the demonization of tax-paying citizens who are being stonewalled at every turn, just because they want the people who were elected to represent them to actually do their job.
Getting Boxer out in 2010 is a must! She won by 20 points on 2004. Nice work there repubs.
My thinking is we must stop cap and tax and Govt run health care first and foremost. Then next summer, when the 2010 election campaigns start heating up, we must be ready with money, a coherent strategy, have laid the groundwork, recruited the proper candidates, and then fight strongly to oust the tax and spend incumbents. Republicans must win back the House or Senate in order to contain Obama for the following 3 years. If we didn’t have all that ready last November, what makes me think we will next summer? I can only hope for change.

I am definitely going to the Sept 5 tea party. I will try to find Cleaver’s town hall meeting in Lees Summit on Aug 8. I really want to go to a McCaskill meeting (without the witch of course) and will locate Oak Grove. What a marxist – if not for the ‘Superman will walk again’ propaganda – she would not have won.
But the very best news: I have located the tar for the tar and feathers. The street department is oiling the side street by me and will soon apply the tar. So, tar is not that hard to find. Now to locate the feathers.
That chicken McCaskill should be able to supply the feathers. Hopefully, she will lay an egg also.
The dems are just annoyed that the people composing these “mobs” aren’t working to provide more taxes. We’re supposed to shut up and work hard just like the horse in Animal Farm who didn’t question the policies and worked himself to death.

Chuck DeVore (Boxer’s opponent) mentioned last evening that come next Summer the unemployment rate in this neck of California officially may be 14.5%; include the people who are underemployed and stopped looking and the number will be closer to 20%. The last 3 elections she’s had a good to great economy in Calif. NOT this time. And what has she done? What do these Lefties think we will do if Obamacare manages to pass? Do they think we will meekly submit? If so then they are mistaken. A lot of Conservatives (Constitutionalists) are really mad about the massive expansion of government and just can’t take it any more. I think a serious 10th Amendment and maybe even secessionist movement will grow. If the Leftists want to live in a totalitarian, top-down, nanny state I say let them. Just don’t try to force me to live in it or pay for it.

Great – and these are the same people who are destroying the jobs of private jet maufacturers, mechanics and pilots, et al with their continued harping that business executives shouldn’t be allowed to have their private jets – jets that are as often as not used to fly everyone but the CEO, people like engineers who need to get to five different plants in one day (show me the airline that can accomplish that).

Here in NH my senator, Jean Shaheen, is having a “telephone townhall” meeting on the phone tonight, and a friend of mine in Columbus, OH told me her rep. is doing the same thing. I’m on her call list (got a computer call yesterday informing me this would start at 6:10 p.m. tonight for an hour – I must be on her call list because I’ve written her so often!) Guess they’re too afraid to meet us face to face. Anyone else having this type of townhall? I haven’t had a chance to read through all the other posts here.
Doesn’t every Public Servant have a house in the Bahamas?

saw the head of the aarp lobbying group last evening on beck, and he flatly denied that aarp was selling out the oldsters for the democrat party, yet in a poll today seniors are the most adament not to change the health care system. 2 to 1 say don’t change amongst 65 + citizens. either that bozo is as out of touch with his constituents as most congresscritters, or he is simply lying. aarp needs to figure out if it is an advocacy group for seniors, or a democrat propoganda and financing tool.

I verify Insurance and get HMO Auth’s for a living. I want to know why substituting Insurance Company Clerk’s that practice medicine without a License and make medical decisions should be replaced with Gov’t Clerk’s. I want to know what is the Appeal Process? 2nd Opinion Process? And how is Obama going to have the time to Practice Medicine without a License? Will he take time away from Basketball Games (cuz his desk is always empty) and his Public Speeches (getting accolades) to do Peer to Peer Reviews with our Primary Care Physicians and our Specialists of Choice? And why will our Specialists of Choice be dinged financially when they decide to give good pt care instead of Medicine by Formulary???

Democratic herds are typically steered for rallies / protests by their elite leaders. The foot soldiers are mostly the brainless zombies. They can’t think for themselves, let alone for their communities.
It is a difficult concept for them to understand that the average hard working American can fight back, when their liberties are at stake. For the fools on the LEFT, it is just another political game.
DemocRATs have made Health care into a PRESTIGE issue. Now they can not back track. They will commit a political suicide by passing some form of universal health care.
Just like 1994, the Socialists will be slaughtered in 2010 elections. There is not going to be much support from the fair minded INDEPENDENTS for Obama’s stupidity.
A comment on the Huffington Post suggested that the Dems holding the Town Hall meetings should bring a copy of the legislation and when someone makes a negative comment about something in the bill, the Sen/Rep should challenge them to actually find it in the bill. They are assuming that the folks protesting are being bussed in & paid to protest.
I can’t wait to see the video when the protester pulls out the exact page and reads it aloud in front of the red-faced Fed.

The Editorial Staff are pained to admit that we really have not been following the Amazing Palin Impending Heartbreak Brouhaha. Mostly, this is because we would be hard-pressed to describe how deeply, emphatically, passionately we refuse to notice people who have no lives of their own. Who, to fill some sick void where their souls ought to be, occupy their waking hours (and rape the attention of all and sundry) by conducting marital health checks upon a woman who isn’t holding public office at present and (in a non-election year, no less) won’t be running for anything anytime soon.

I live in the south also. I have worked in DC. Liberals think it is so cool to go protest anything of moral or of American values. It scares them when grandma and grandpa do it cause if you push grandma and grandpa they will hurt ya. You see grandma and grandpa lived through allot of scary crap. Cold War, Korean War, WW II , dust bowls, droughts, floods, and insect infestations. They never asked govt. for anything and they dame sure are not asking for this crap govt. is trying to ram down their throat now. If they think the few people who have showed up to these town hall meetings are a mob… they have not seem sh%t yet. I wonder if they realize that they showed up unarmed this time.
