Revolt against AARP in Dallas: “Do you work for us or do we work for you?”

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 6, 2009 02:21 PM

Watch the senior citizen “hooligans” and “civic vigilantes” in Dallas question a condescending AARP representative about Obamacare. Dues-paying members are speaking up about the organization’s sellout of its members — and the AARP brass is not happy. Yes, the winds of real hope and change are blowing:

“AARP does not endorse the legislation”

That is a lie. I have received multiple emails from them containing all kinds of misinformation, urging members to support “health care reform” (an obvious reference to Obama’s plan), and not believe the “fear-mongering,” “rumors,” and “the interest groups twisting the truth to stop health reform.” This shilling for the Obama adminstration is blatantly obvious.

My pointed email back to them in objection to this sellout of their members was responded to with a form-letter type list of typical Dem talking points about the need for “health care reform.” The points I made were not even addressed.

AARP is in the tank for Obama and the Dems, their claims to the contrary are total BS.

Here is an email AARP is sending it’s members…..

    Dear ___,

If your inbox is anything like mine, you’re getting a lot of emails about how SCARY health reform is. From allegations about rationing care to wild reports of government-sponsored euthanasia, the rumors just keep getting crazier.

And I’ve had enough. Enough of the fear-mongering. Enough of the myths and unfounded rumors. Enough of the interest groups twisting the truth to stop health reform.

I’m fighting back – and I’m asking for your help!

Below I’ve debunked some of the common myths going around. Will you forward this email to your friends and help get the truth out about reform?

The truth is real reform is at risk because opponents are using scare tactics and slogans to gin up fear and misunderstandings. Don’t let that happen.

    Sincerely,

    Barry Jackson
    AARP Online Advocacy Manager

P.S. Let’s make sure everyone gets the truth. After you’ve forwarded the message below, please share these myths and facts on Facebook if you have an account, or post them on other networking sites. If you’re active on Twitter, please tweet the truth now.

******Delete the text above and forward this message to friends and family ******

    Hi,

My inbox has been flooded with emails spreading crazy rumors about health reform so I wanted to share some facts from AARP about what’s really going on. Please join me in forwarding these facts to everyone you know. Print them out and pass them around at your social gatherings and other places where people are discussing the issues of the day.

FACT #1: Medicare will not be ended, and no benefits or services will be cut.

Your services will not be ended, nor will your benefits be cut. AARP’s position on this could not be clearer. And we have sent this message loud and clear to Congress. While the current proposals include savings in Medicare by cutting out fraud, abuse, waste, and inefficiency, we’re standing up and making sure benefits for Medicare recipients are not only fully protected, but are improved.1

FACT #2: No legislation currently in Congress would mandate the rationing of care. Period.

Our staff has read all of the legislation circulating in Congress and there are no provisions in these bills that would ration care for our members. None. If any ever did, we would vigorously fight to stop that legislation.2

FACT #3: There is no provision of any piece of legislation that would promote euthanasia of any kind.

The rumors out there are flat out lies. Right now Medicare does not cover counseling for end-of-life care. The portion of the bill in question would simply provide coverage for optional end-of-life consultations with doctors, so that the patient can be aware of all of the treatment options on the table. It is not mandatory and it has nothing to do with euthanasia.3

FACT #4: We have not endorsed President Obama’s plan.

In fact, we haven’t endorsed any plan. We are supporting reform of our health care system, something that AARP has pushed for many years. We’re working closely with Republican and Democratic members of Congress to lower health care costs and to ensure quality affordable coverage for older Americans – and we want reform legislation passed and signed by the president this year.4

So what is AARP fighting for in health reform?

Stopping insurance companies from charging older Americans unaffordable premiums because of their age.
Ending the practice of excluding people from insurance because of pre-existing conditions.

Holding down health costs and making insurance coverage more affordable for all Americans.

Making prescription drugs more affordable by narrowing the Medicare doughnut hole, bringing generics to market faster, and allowing Medicare to negotiate better drug prices.
Find out more and take action at HealthActionNow.org.

I feel for the older folks who sacrificed a lot to make this country great. It’s a shame that their kids and grandkids can’t say the same. I think that if babyboomers and their children had had to live with less like the “greatest generation” we wouldn’t be in the dire straits we are now.

My father, who is in his 70′s, is an AARP member. He’s often complained that it’s done nothing for him and that it’s nothing more than a lobbying group that doesn’t really represent its members. I’ve often wondered why so many retirees have given their hard-earned money to this organization when it gives nothing in return.

As a member of generation X (I’m in my 30′s) I think younger members of society have grown complacent and lazy. They expect everything to come their way. I’ve seen this sentiment not only in the US but in Europe by some of the friends I made while studying in Spain (a big welfare state going broke).

The youth of America don’t feel invested in anything because they’re often given things without either working for them or just expecting them. The biggest mistake that the Greatest Generation made was spoiling their babyboomer children and giving them more than they had. If they had instilled in their kids the hard-work ethic and the values that made America successful in the first half of the 20th century, perhaps there wouldn’t be such a generational disparity now.

AARP sells insurance. I assume they participate in the profits from that insurance, yet the guy was standing there saying that insurance profits were not appropriate in some way that I could not understand.

He seemed to say that insurance profits come from not providing medical care to those they insure. If this is so I don’t want any of ARRP’s insurance. I thought they made profits from investing and from good customer service. I wanted to say to the guy that if my insurer denied coverage then I would change insurers. I certainly cain’t change insureres if the Government is the only insurer and it denies me coverage of some critical care.

How domb do these people think we are. They make no sense at all.

If ‘Bambi follows through on his promise to also completely obliterate the Healthcare Advantage programs, Medicare cut in half is what they’ll end up with.

Anybody know if they’ll be able to raid the trustfund accounts and leave little breadcrumb I.O.U.’s like they have done with Social Security and Medicare?

If anybody talked to me during a meeting that is funded by my membership dues like that moron did to seniors, I’d cut the card up and promptly claim a refund.

    Letter to AARP (aarp.org)

Please remove me from your mauling list. I just turned 50 and, because your organization’s political views are so far to the left and support the ObamaDeathCare proposal (which I READ), I want nothing to do with your disseminated disinformation.

My fiance, Dr. X, who also resides at this address would like to have his name removed as well. He is a physician who, in 1985, saw the demise of true “health care” coming through the vehicle of “HMO”s.

This ObamaDeathCare lead up to single-payer “health” care will be as
disastrous – if not more so – than those in Canada or UK.

It will cause thousands of doctors to LEAVE medicine (as he did),

cause more suffering for patients (why do you think the wealthy come
to the USA for treatments and Ted Kennedy didn’t go to hospitals in
    his HOME STATE OF MASSACHUSETTS?)

and cause people to LOSE CHOICES (in UK, thyroid patients are being
told they only have 2 options and, if they choose dessicated thyroid
meds, they will not be eligible for further treatment through the
    NHS.)

Stop pushing the Euthanasia For Seniors and Other Useless Eaters Bill
and go back to doing something useful – getting seniors discounts for “stuff”.

    Sincerely
    PSRK
    A Grandma, but not-quite a Senior

So what is AARP fighting for in health reform?

Stopping insurance companies from charging older Americans unaffordable premiums because of their age.

Ending the practice of excluding people from insurance because of pre-existing conditions.

Holding down health costs and making insurance coverage more affordable for all Americans.

    ok…

    see?

that wasn’t too hard at all.

now somebody explain to congress how to do THAT without using 1107 pages.
