SEIU and the “persuasion of power;” Update: St. Louis thuggery on tape

In May, I told you how the Service Employees International Union’s $61 million investment in Barack Obama paid off with cabinet appointments, executive orders, key personnel slots, and legislative goodies.
Now, the SEIU thugs are looking out for The Boss. In Tampa, Florida and St. Louis today, the Purple People turned out to give cover to members of Congress targeted by Tea Party activists and town hall protesters. For the first time, the town hall protests were marked by physical aggression. More on the St. Louis arrests of confrontational Obamacare activists here. (Just like Obama wanted: “In your face.”) This is no coincidence.
I’m excerpting a portion of my Culture of Corruption chapter on the SEIU. This is what you are up against.

“The persuasion of power”
Asked about his organizing philosophy, Andy Stern summed it up this way: “[W]e prefer to use the power of persuasion, but if that doesn’t work we use the persuasion of power.”
Stern and his shock troops have bullied companies from private equity firms to Burger King to food management company Aramark, who have resisted SEIU’s attempts to organizer their workers. The Purple People have organized aggressive protests and a “War on Greed” campaign to pound the employers into submission. One of the besieged targets, security provider Wackenhut Services, battled SEIU’s attempts to gain exclusive representation for its employees. The company already ten other unions representing its workers. Initially unbowed by a massive, malicious negative publicity campaign against them, Wackenhut blew the whistle:
The SEIU seeks membership growth through aggressive “corporate campaigns” that have a blunt message to employers, “Let us unionize your workforce or we will destroy your reputation.” This tactic has been used against a number of organizations to include Wal-Mart, Kaiser Permanente, Advocate Health Care, Catholic Healthcare West, and Sutter Health.
SEIU is attempting to coerce The Wackenhut Corporation and WSI to recognize it as the “exclusive” collective bargaining representative throughout Wackenhut. Wackenhut declined to enter into such an agreement. The SEIU responded with a corporate campaign that is intended to damage WSI’s reputation and relationships with our clients. Their campaign tactics include distributing misinformation, distortion and omission of fact through the media, conducting demonstrations in proximity of work sites in an effort to disrupt normal client operations, and aggressively attempting to intimidate or influence clients.
But after filing a racketeering lawsuit against the SEIU, a weary and drained Wackenhut entered into an agreement allowing its employees in nine cities to choose SEIU as its bargaining representative. Behold the “persuasion of power.”
Showing an appalling lack of concern for the well-being of its members, the SEIU upped the ante in a representation battle with the University of Miami in 2006. The union fought tooth and nail against a true, democratic unionizing election for campus janitors using a secure, federally monitored secret ballot. Stern personally escalated the dispute, joined the fasters, and demonized then-university president Donna Shalala (yes, that Donna Shalala of Clinton yore). She lashed back:
We are devastated that the union is risking the health and well-being of our students and the Unicco employees by sanctioning an activity as drastic as a hunger strike. Hunger strikes have never been used in this country to oppose an election. We have urged both parties to continue daily discussions until this issue is resolved. A free election for or against unionization is a federal statutory right.
In the end, the SEIU relented to a federally monitored election. But at what price? Five SEIU members were hospitalized, one with a minor stroke. Wackenhut Corporation chief operating officer Paul Donahue, expressing sympathy for the University of Miami’s plight, saw the big picture:
The bullying, protesting, harassment, contrived events and demands will continue indefinitely because the union has millions of dollars in dues money from hard working janitors and other service workers which can be spent on ruining the reputation of businesses instead of bettering the lives of those workers that contributed.
Indeed, no one has felt the blunt force – and physical danger — of Stern’s “persuasion of power” more than workers themselves.
In Oakland, Stern and his Washington crew imposed a trusteeship on a 150,000-member local that had publicly opposed SEIU strong-arm tactics. The D.C.headquarters (knee deep in ethical mud) accused the local – known as SEIU United Healthcare Workers West (UHW West) – of financial malpractice and misconduct. The local fought back, charging the Beltway union leaders with manufacturing the allegations to retaliate and to distract from Washington mismanagement. The UHW West president, Sal Rosselli, quit the SEIU Executive Board, and formed a new union in February 2009, which declared: “We’re tired of SEIU’s hostile tactics, threatening phone calls, their collusion with employers and governors like Blagojovich, and the corruption of Stern’s appointees like Local 6434 head Tyrone Freeman in Los Angeles, disgraced SEIU Executive Vice President Annelle Grajada, and the appointees who have just taken over what had been our local. We don’t trust them with our contracts, we don’t trust them with our dues—we just don’t trust them.”
In Philadelphia, Stern engineered the hostile takeover of a 150,000-member union representing garment and hospitality workers. Workers United had broken off from the national UNITE HERE union of 450,000 workers. Progressive New York Daily News columnist Juan Gonzalez, citing SEIU’s agreement with Workers United, called Stern “hellbent on using classic corporate raider tactics to bring a huge portion of the U.S. labor movement under his absolute control.” The pact included discounted member dues and legal and financial assistance to aid the breakaway group’s efforts to take control of the Amalgamated Bank, the nation’s only union-owned bank. One union official called the power grab “a breathtaking form of imperialism…”

I wish I could believe what you’re saying, but I have to disagree. Every few months, someone comes out with a pronouncement like what you have here. But I have seen the steady, strong growth of statism since FDR (with an all-to-brief respite during Reagan). Liberalism is the great political tendency. I think of it like political entropy.
After the initial hardy group of pioneers and Founders does the hard work of establishing, and after prosperity becomes normative, people naturally tend towards assuming that prosperity as a right, not something that is the result of their use of their liberty and so they begin to trade liberty for the “security” of an assured outcome of “prosperity” (so-called).
And I don’t think people will shake loose from that until the “security” they’ve been given HURTS SO MUCH that they can’t abide by it. We’re so far from that right now. Just look at Europe! No clamor for “liberty” there.
We can talk about the “American people” as if we’re the same folks who founded the country but we’re not. We’re growing up a generation who are not only ignorant of the history of the founding and its animating principles, but who, when they are told of them, are adamantly opposed.
Not trying to be a naysayer, but I don’t think regular pronouncements of “imploding” Democrats are helpful. It just simply isn’t true. I’ve heard this since Bush came in office and now we have an entirely Democrat controlled government.
It’s going take a revival of biblical Christianity, coupled with a couple of generations of folks who know their American history and understand the principles of liberty.

His staffer yesterday said she received a call where a person asked whether Miller would be having a town hall meeting or not. The staffer said no and the caller said that was probably because Miller was afraid for his life.
I work for a company that is unionized by the United food and Commercial Workers Union. When some “Business Agent” ans they call them selves comes into a store, they are very pushy. They go so far as to wedge them selves between employees and customers to demand that a employee wear a button or something.
The tried that we me and I threw the button on the floor. The Thug told me “Don’t you understand, this program/whatever is best for you. You shoudl know better.” And walked away muttering to himself.

This point is on a tangent, but it should serve to reinforce that showing up at these townhalls is having an impact. This link http://reportcard.cnn.com/ shows that in every state the mode for a grade for Obama is an F. Every state! and this was taken by CNN. Even in his, and unfortunately mine, homestate, the solid percentage of people rate what he has done thus far as no better than a C, and the largest number still give him an F. Keep it up, we can last three years, but I have a feeling his skin is so thin something big will crack very soon in the administration.

The reason I ask is if he needs help is there anything being done to help him cover these costs. In todays economy, it is not unreasonable to assume he might need some help.

There are ads running on fanfiction.net saying Obama supports the Free Choice Act and we should, too. I’m practicing my snitching by mentioning in a conservative forum where the liberals are advertising.
I do think most of the people who hang out on fanfiction.net now will be eligible to vote in 2012, and it’s a pretty high-traffic site. I wonder if conservatives have ever tried to advertise with them?

Reading the entire hr3200, it is plain to see that that IS what they intend to do as though the current healthcare system does not even exist and needed to be designed from the ground up. It’s like burning down your whole house and starting over from scratch just because you need more energy efficient windows.
Why scrap virtually everything that is good about the quasi capitalist healthcare system we already have? It provides options so good that people come here from all over the world to BUY when they cannot get treatment from their own country’s socialized system.

What really gets me in all this, is the liberal insistance that people have a “right” to health care. I can’t find anything anywhere that states that. People have a “right” for food too. Where’s the 1500 page bill giving all the people food everyday? At least that makes a little more sense than health care. Maybe that’s next. Being in the medical field (peds), I am concerned over the care of my patients, especially those with Duchenne’s MD, severe CP and those with Mito disease. Will they be considered not worthy of medical interventions, simply because they are progressive with a poor prognosis? Will a congressman come and speak to these kids and their parents on how government will “counsel” them on how to die? Perhaps they will remove them from their homes/families and cart them off to a “nursing home” to await the inevitable. Mr. Congressman, will you answer this this question? I doubt it. The thugs will probably yell at me to “shut up”, and push me around.
Maybe that is hyperbolic. Maybe.
But we do have radicals in the highest positions of power in the central government.

Looking for a piece of good news, after a dozen banks were FDIC faliures in the last week of July, I am pleased to report that there were only 3 additions so far this week.
Of course as with any government economic news that could be revised upward at any time.
Although on the other hand there is strong evidence that last weeks treasury auction was a total flop.
And with more scheduled the outlook is not good.
Well, they just administered the oath to our new Justice of the Supreme Court. Every single sentence in that oath required her to lie. And, when will they STOP referring her to “the first Hispanic”…etc.??? This is disgusting. I used to think we were all Americans. But some apparently are more “special” Americans than others. These are not sentiments I am used to seeing at Powerline, one of the truly great websites, where I was once admonished by John Hinderaker that “conservatives don’t get to choose”. I’d like to see some fair and balanced reporting. We haven’t seen any disruptive town hall meetings for Republican Congressmen. Where’s the fairness in that? /sarc
While I’m sure there are those whose sole purpose is to disrupt these townhall meetings, I believe for the most part, the citizens are angry and frustrated. They raise their voices because they know their elected representatives have turned selectively deaf – both in hearing the spoken word and the written. The normal response by the constituents is to make some noise hoping they might get through to them.
These Democrats better watch their step because if they continue to attack and marginalize their constituents, they will be losing their jobs. This goes for fence sitting Republicans too.
iamsaved: these townhalls wouldn’t be so raucous were the congressmen to suddenly show up prepared to actually discuss the bill. So long as they merely restate their disengenuous (fraudulent) talking points, they will be treated with the same disdain that would be expected from people who are being lied to so condescendingly. Bald-faced lying is not only rude, it is insulting. It takes at least two mature grown-ups to have a civilization. When are our politicians going to grow up and join us?

We need to push for those SEIU thugs who beat Kenneth Gladney to be charged with a hate crime. If the SEIU instructed them to be there, they need to be sued in civil court. Their playbook will work just as well against them.
So, to sum it up, the leftist, fifth columnists, liberal left leaning democrats are employing projecting their own “sins,” or bad behavior, violence, or hatred, if you will, onto those normal US citizens who are outraged at the Government and who have decided to employ their constitutional right to freedom of assembly and t redress their grievances.
US citizens opposing these government affronts to reason, freedom, liberty, and choice, never have come even close to the level of violence, hatred, and maliciousness as the leftists who get a pass on their deplorable behavior.

I wish someone out there with credentials and experience in constitutional law would explore and report on why we can apply the Hatch Act to prevent government employees from engaging in partisan politics yet having politicians call on the SEIU and ACORN, both funded with our taxes, is legal.
I maintain that government unions are not only unconstitutional, but anathema to the proper functioning of a free democracy.
Everybody keeps talking about 2010, and 2012 as if it’s the answer to our prayers to end this thug’s reign, but what if…just what if….they rig those elections in their favor as well? What do we do then?
Patronheart: What we risk is that people will once again hold their noses to vote automatically for the Republican candidate. That is not the answer. If the elections do get rigged, I expect that the “Gangs of McCain/Steele” GOP will have a role in it.
Both parties are at war with us conservatives. That is why we need to press the Tea Party movement and be in all of their faces at the townhalls. What we do by September 12 may very well break up this tyranny.

I’m too much of a fighter to think all is lost. I was just proposing a scenario that needs to be considered so we can adapt and overcome. All is not lost, but there is too much to lose to just give up.
I wonder if it would be possible to have the National Guard at the polls next election. Don’t the states have the authority to call them out? Or does it have to be Obama? If we can’t guard the polls and assure the accuracy of the machines that count the votes, we are in big trouble. Any other solution suggestions would be premature. But remember, we are at war with traitors trying to take over our Republic and socialize it. Never forget that. They have played their hand.
I wonder how many people will show up in DC on Sept. 12th. And I wonder what the libs in DC are working on to suppress the rally? You can be sure they will not make it easy! If enough people can afford to gather there, it could be massive!!
I did not read all the comments so this may have already been suggested. When you all go out to eat or go on vacation ask the person you are about to tip if they belong to the SEIU union. If they are do not tip them and tell them why. It won’t take long for them to turn on the union when their financial future is threatened.
Just got home from Memphis Steve Cohens’ townhall meeting. It was interesting to say the least and he regurgitated every democrat talking point and when the doctors rose to speak-most them directly challenged this bill.
I’ll try to get video downloaded as soon as possible. His denying that congress will have a seperate health care system and that abortion isn’t in the bill was priceless.
Cohen’s body language spoke volumes while he quickly tried to shuffle them off.

This entire healthcare situation should scare everyone. The people in the Obama administration who are pushing healthcare are social Darwinists. For those who don’t know history, the concept of Social Darwinism led to the the eugenics movement and NAZI Germany’s genocide and master race behavior. None of our kids or grandkids are aware of this because the Americans beat it back when WW-II was won by the allied forces. Now it emerges in its ugliest form – the potential destruction of the handicapped and elderly.
You either believe that the state works for the people, a concept of citizenship, or the people work for the state, a concept of subjugation. Europe comes from this latter perspective because its history includes monarchy. America was founded on the opposite and its foundation is the Judeo-Christian concept that every life is precious and sacred.
Obama is a secular socialist with a utilitarian view of people. God help us.
First of all, I would like to see our election supervisors require not only a picture ID to vote, but also everyone that votes dip their finger in ink like they did in Iraq.
Second, I do believe deep in my heart that the 2010 elections will be rigged and blatantly so. These Chicago thugs will not give up power.
These folks in ACORN, the unions, and other groups don’t understand that when they destroy the public trust in our voting system, they destroy our history of peaceful transfer of power every four years. All they care about is getting their guy in and keeping him there no matter the cost. But there is a cost, and I see it every election lately.
What has kept us separate from the banana republics and their violent transfers of power are fair elections. When the public has trust in the election system, they know they can “redress their grievances” peacefully and ensure continued good governance of our nation. Once the public’s trust is broken, then they will have no other option to “redress their grievances” peacefully. That will eventually lead to violent transfers of power. I don’t want to see that happen but we are well on our way there.
The options given to us by the Founding Fathers are the soap box, ballot box, jury box, and cartridge box. If the first three are ignored by the government who will not listen, then the fourth box comes into use.
Over 2 million guns have been bought in the US since the election. Enough to arm the armies of India and China. There are still ammo shortages throughout the USA. America has been arming its self. America does not know why consciously, but unconsciously it does know why. America knows its government is going to wage war with it and America will have to protect its self.
I sincerely wish this would not come to pass in my lifetime, but who has the ability to choose when they will be born in history? Did our Founding Fathers get to choose when they would be born? No, they did not and neither do we. As they faced the tyrannical government that oppressed them with courage and conviction, so shall America.
This is the start of the long struggle and our Founding Father’s ideas will be reborn or will die depending on what we as a people and as a nation choose to do.

She is not advocating that, *I* am. It is your responsibility to protect yourself. if a union thug starts trying to hurt you, you have the right and responsibility to defend yourself. If the thug refuses to comply with your demands to stop the attack and continues the attack, you have the right and responsibility to put the SOB on the ground, dead or alive I don’t particularly care. The thug abdicated his right to continue breathing when he attacked an innocent person.
