Looks like Mel Martinez is resigning his senate seat. I guess he couldn’t that the heat. Is a position in the Obama administration next?
ahhh, the party of peace, inclusiveness and tolerance. now that the war on terror is officially over, the religion of peace and tolerance can resume bombings and beheadings, and the party of peace, love, and harmony can get back to assault and battery with impunity.
We need to recruit guards for our seniors when attend these meeting so Obama’s goons can’t beat the hell out of them. Isn’t this a wonderful country?
Tell any lib you can find that they should go to a townhall meeting with you… not to counter-protest, but to see what their doctor’s waiting room is going to be like post-Obamacare — except their doctor’s waiting room will have more people in it and they’ll be much angrier.
I thought “change” was promised at the end of an open hand, not a closed fist. Oh well, I didn’t vote for them anyway so what do I know -

I watched the Tampa video. It looks like the anti-reform people started chanting to disrupt the meeting, which brought others over to ask them to stop. Of course tempers were high as the demonstrators made it impossible for the meeting to continue.
I doubt whether the first post is accurate — there are no confirmations.
I think it is time to recalibrate on town hall meetings.
The only ones it is going to make sense to try to attend are legitimate, open meetings in districts where the rep is not already in the tank. Most of the “tanked” Demoncrats are NOT going to bother with any meeting.
For these sham meetings larded with union leg-breakers, we have to continue to try to get in. That poses some level of actual physical risk to conservatives or anti-ObamaCare people.
But we can’t just back down.
It would make sense to show up outside of a meeting that was a sham, just to put pressure on and “bear witness”.
But mostly, the town hall meetings have already returned their greatest benefit. The nation has seen them, and we’ve seen the BIG BRO reaction to them.
Now, theater is our best option, where the CongressChicken or Senator is too gutless to face constitutes.
Just wire around them, and get the video out into the internet.

If there were “confirmations” you’d find a way to disprove those as well. And I don’t mean disprove in the normal sense of the word or how thinking people define the word. I’m referring to the lgmified meaning.

And as the left is already accusing the ObamaCare protesters of being “brown-shirts” as advance justification to use violence against them, don’t forget that this was what same sort of thing the real Nazis did when they wanted to start a war with Poland: dress up a bunch of German political prisoners in Polish Army uniforms, machine-gun them down near a radio station along the border, and them claim that the Poles “started it.”
The only difference between that and using SEIU thugs to provoke violent confrontations and then blame the protesters is that the SEIU thugs aren’t using guns — yet.

I disagree. As with ILMC, OMU, and a few others, virtually everything that lgm posts is a lie, distortion, or mis-statement of the facts. It’s good for you and for everyone to counter every one of their posts with the truth. It’s good practice for other occasions when you have to deal with leftists and it helps inform those who are not fully up to speed on what the facts really are. Ad hominem attacks and non-specific insults don’t help much, though.

Watch this. A Republican tells a credulous audience that funding for living wills is equivalent to government mandated murder. Hint: if you’re making decisions about your own care, it’s not murder.

What the hell is “funding for a living will” supposed to mean? A living will doesn’t cost anything. You can get a form at Staples for five bucks, pay a notary two bucks to stamp it and bingo, living will. And if seven bucks is out of your price range the hospital will give you a DNR form for free.
What people are justifiably worried about is representatives of the government essentially encouraging suicide because they’ve been deemed cost-ineffective to treat.

Have the deficits not increased astronomically in the first six months of this administration? Has spending not gotten so far out of control that it’s actually threating the Government’s bond rating?

Is Obama not trying to completely re-make a major chunk of the economy using a process completely devoid of transparency, accountability or meaningful debate?

1. Saying that much of what these people attending meetings are angry about isn’t true is your opinion, not a fact. How do you presume to know what these people are angry about? What if they’re angry about the fact that Obamacare gives the government access to your financial institution records so they can take funds out of your account automatically? That, bozo, is true and anyone who wouldn’t be angry about that is stupid.
2. Yes, Medicare is a government program (to hell with your hint, how many people who attended these meetings don’t know that). But not all government programs are equal. Medicare still allows for private sector options besides Medicare; if not immediately, then certainly in the out-years, Obamacare won’t.
3. Please refer to the changes I made to your second (worthless) hint. That’s the real story that will exist under Obamacare.

Some of you may be interested to know this. In my daily ritual of story comparison I went to see what the DUmmies have to say about the attack on Mr. Gladney. Using the DU search function, I entered his name and came up with one, count ‘em, ONE thread, that had only 6 comments although it had been posted at approx 2 a.m. Of course, the comments ranged from “false arrest” to “Authoritarian ***holes” to “Rovian tactics. Phil Parlock would be proud.”
Oddly enough, DU is literally awash with threads about the townhall meetings, but any mention of the St. Louis one is rare. On one the arrests are mentioned with most of them wondering what side they were on (as if they really have no idea at all). On that same one they marveled at the fact that the victim and the attacker were both black as if the fact that a black man could be conservative was unimaginable. Last but not least, the last of the total of 8 commentors wondered if the racial slur used was “Uncle Tom”.
I am still looking and reading, but it is clear there is a BIG effort to color all the demonstrators as being hired guns. Watching the news this morning it is clear they are being steered toward this group think from the top. Everyone from Obama to Pelosi to Reid on down the line to their sheep at the bottom are using the “Turfer” label to enable them to ignore the clear opposition to their plan. And none of them will be losing a moments sleep in the end. They will do what they want and say “We were willing to listen to reason.”
I think that push is really heading to shove on this one folks.

It will if we have the stomach to see it through. This is the old dilemma: right NOW things don’t seem that bad so the temptation is to say, “Oh well! We can just take over in 2010″ and hope for the best.
Nobody, including me most of all, wants to stand vigilant and keep the pressure on with making our voices heard. It is tiring and hard to swim against the tide, but that’s what everyone will have to do in order to effect REAL “change.”

Of course you can’t help it, because your true beliefs cannot be sustained by facts, history, or reasoned argument. Of course, there are some on the conservative side who also argue from emotion rather than fact, but they tend to be a minority. In general, people don’t try to cover the entire factual basis for their arguments in every post, because it’s redundant and unnecessary except to inform such as yourself who apparently haven’t read the underlying material and don’t understand the issues.

I’ve got 6’3, and 232lbs of bulk on me so I’m not exactly small either. That’s not the point for me. It’s that I tend to not want to be bothered, period. Just being honest. So it takes a lot to get me up and moving, but this has become one of those times for me.

That’s me, too, Major. I don’t like crowds…partly because I’ve seen people do stupid things that could have gotten a lot of people hurt in a crowd, and I don’t control idiots.

I’m not wishing for violence on anyone, but I’m not going to sit by at a town hall while people are victimized. They really need to get the police involved early and the news crews need to be there to put the fear of being further “caught on tape” to the perpetrators.
