    That’s a good one, but this sort of thing is all too common in my experience, no matter where a person comes down ideologically. Public schools, you know; some people see a word that ends with ‘s’ and instinctively put an apostrophe in front of the ‘s’. Who taught them so?

    More on topic…we smell blood, and they know it. They’re gonna get desperate, and that means violence, and the leftists will reflexively overreach as usual. Where things progress from there, we can but guess.

    So, correct me if I am wrong, if the Federal government no longer pays, who does? I am guessing you and I.

    Nothing is wrong with US healthcare, but something is wrong with our government not providing security (personal and financial) for legal taxpayers. It is wrong not to enforce the laws we have to protect our borders, as now the swarms of illegals are impacting our health care and have closed hosptials in California and other states. It is wrong for illegals to use our emergency departments for free health care. Illegal immigration is the root cause for this “health care reform” and we all know it. Socialistic medicine is not the answer.

    llegals are the second highest revenue of Mexico (after oil imports), due to mailing home an estimated $13 Billion dollars a year in remittance by working tax free in our country—they do not contribute one dime to health care nor the education their children receive. Surely, living tax-free at our expense, illegal aliens can afford a co-payment like the rest of us pay when they arrive at our emergency departments. Just a thought from this mobster girl on how I would reform health care (I would close the border and deport illegals).

    I originally schooled in physical oceanology and physics teaches that raw numbers don’t lie and the difference between finite and infinite.     We had about 100 people turn out, all of us opposed to Obamacare. At one point somebody called out “Does anybody here have a Swastika?”, and he was answered with a chorus of “NO!”. Then somebody else asked if anybody there worked for the RNC… “NO!!”. Then I asked if anybody was dressed particularly well… “NO!!!”.

    It was fun.

    I recognized about half the people in the crowd as being from town, and I don’t know that many people. Definitely not Astroturf. These are the same folks I see at the Memorial Day Parade.

    You’ve probably never heard of ASK Public Strategies. It is the highly secretive, private sector-focused twin to David Alexrod’s political consulting firm AKP&D Message & Media. Axelrod, of course, is Barack Obama’s chief strategist.     Lots of political consultants do private sector work. Hillary Clinton’s top strategist, Mark Penn, is worldwide CEO of a massive PR firm called Burson-Marsteller which is infamous for working with nasty corporate clients (Blackwater, for example) and for pioneering the use of “pseudo-grassroots front groups, known as “astroturfing,” according to a 2007 Nation article.

    Looks like astroturfing is Axelrod’s stock-in-trade, too. According to BusinessWeek, here’s a description of the work his company has done for electrical company ComEd:

    The Chicago-based utility says ASK has been an adviser since at least 2002. ASK’s workload picked up in 2005, as the Exelon subsidiary was nearing the end of a 10-year rate freeze and preparing to ask state regulators for higher electricity prices. Based on ASK’s advice, ComEd formed Consumers Organized for Reliable Electricity (CORE) to win support.

    One TV commercial, penned by ASK, warned of a ComEd bankruptcy and blackouts without a rate hike: “A few years ago, California politicians seized control of electric rates. They held rates down, but the true cost of energy kept rising. Soon the electric company went bust; the lights went out. Consumers had to pay for the mess. Now, some people in Illinois are playing the same game.” CORE, which describes itself on its Web site as “a coalition of individuals, businesses and organizations,” was identified as the ad’s sponsor. After a complaint was filed with state regulators, ComEd acknowledged that it had bankrolled the entire $15 million effort.

    And does all this touch Obama? It does. According to the article, “Illinois employees of the utility and its parent, Exelon, have contributed $181,711 to Obama’s presidential bid—more than workers at any other company in the state.”

    My sister, an American citizen, has a boyfriend in Italy. Health care taxes there are analogous to school taxes here. He sends his two daughters to private practice dentists but uses a government dentist for himself. Of course, the private dentists cost much more, but are much better quality in terms of service and convenience. So even if he decides to pay extra to use private dentists, he still has to pay for state run dentistry. My sister says that whenever he goes to the dentist, he takes the whole day off from work. It just takes that long to get it done. There is a lot of red tape and hassle. It’s not one-stop-shop dentistry like it is in the U.S.; he has to travel around to different dentists to get it all done. A former coworker of mine is Russian. Over there, the government assigned dentists to districts around the country. People were forced to use the dentist in their district. How’s that for a guaranteed customer base with no competitors?

    This kind of thing is what we’ll be faced with here. Maybe in the short term it won’t be this bad, but it’ll get there. The 1913 income tax was very small as it was promised to be, but look where it is now. Don’t let the same thing happen to our private health system. Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Durbin, and the rest are lying to us! Throw the bums out!

    Others here have already mentioned that the unfortunate tax-paying citizens of the 3 European countries that you cite
    pay much more individually for health care than those who pay for health insurance in America.

    I would also mention that the Canadian cost for health care as a percentage of GDP vs. that for the United States is roughly 11% vs. 15%.

    4% is not a very wide spread, especially when you consider that the expenditure for research and development is higher in the USA than in Canada (from what I understand, US corporations and universities invest far more $’s in R+D, while nations like Canada sit back and wait to produce the copy-cat pharmaceuticals for much less cost.)

    lgm – paying the Federal Government to provide you inferior health care is your prerogative. All I ask you, as an American, is to continue to protect my freedom to opt out of your insanity.
