President Obama wants you to stop talking and Robert Gibbs thinks you are all corporate-funded lackeys. But hey, they don’t question your patriotism. And now they welcome “a real vigorous conversation.”
Just keep it at an acceptable decibel level.
“I think there’s actually a pretty long tradition of people shouting at politicians in America,” White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton told reporters on Air Force One when asked about the comments.
“The President thinks that if people want to come and have a spirited debate about health care, a real vigorous conversation about it, that’s a part of the American tradition and he encourages that, because people do have questions and concerns …And so if people want to come and have their concerns and their questions answered, the President thinks that’s important. Now, if you just want to come to a town hall so that you can disrupt and so that you can scream over another person, he doesn’t think that that’s productive. And as a country, we’ve been able to make progress when people actually talk out what our problems are, not try to shout each other down.”
JWF wants a vigorous debate about the Associated Press spin on Obama’s upcoming Kabuki town hall meeting in Portsmouth NH.
The forum is ticket-only.
John Moran, 71, of Nottingham was among the many who went to the school to pick up tickets for an event marking Obama’s first trip to the Granite State since he took office in January.
Moran, a Democrat, said he is a strong Obama supporter who was thrilled when he got a call notifying him that he would have two tickets for today’s Town Hall forum.
The Nottingham resident said his wife — who will also be attending — was even more excited with the chance to see Obama live.
“She is really tickled. You should have seen her … she was jumping up and down,” Moran said.
Moran said he has a couple questions in mind if he is called on at the forum with one of them being how the president intends to get health insurance companies to work with him to reform health care.
No worries about being drowned out.

some guy at the Sphincter town hall asked the Senator why don’t we have a “public” referendum on the health care issue…he also asked the senator to publicly disclose who is writing these bills and what their political affiliations are. He never did answer the question..I agree who is writing these bills? Inquiring minds want to know….

The prez’s idea of a townhall meeting is to preach to the choir, something he no doubt picked up from his mentor, the “reverend” Wright.
If the Democrats were as committed to the bill they say is so good for us, and, as far as they and the NYTimes say, has no downsides, they would 1) get it themselves, and 2) stand tall and defend their ideas with discourse and facts, not snivelling slander and ramming the unread legislation through under the guise of “no time to lose!”

Uh let me guess. The HN event will have BO with his US flag lapel pin. He will be wearing a red tie. Probably a flag or two surrounding the stage. And of course TOTUS for his initial brief statement.
The stage will also include 30 or 40 people in stadium seating behind him. There will be your token whites, a few blacks, and maybe an asian thrown in just for the cameras. They will be spaced perfectly to assemble a PC crowd. They will have those white signs with bold black block lettering saying “Thank you”. The audience has been pre-screened and will be filled with friendlies. There will probably be a senior or a sympathetic HC provider with some hardluck story, that we later find out is a plant for some organization that will get a nice piece of gov’t dollars if passed.
He will answer questions that were already submitted where he can expound ever so elegantly on a bill he hasn’t read. Answers that will later be shown as a contradiction to what we already know about the bill.
The media will be astounded by his grasp for the “facts” and report how the debate is over.

Remember the recent health care cost crisis GM went through prior to this administration? In order to stop an unsustainable health care plan, GM gave the unions 80 billion dollars and control of the health benefits.
So, lets force all employers by law to pay for these health plans and fine each individual if they do not maintain “acceptable” health insurance. Great idea (sarc).

I read about how excited people are getting when they get TICKETS to town hall meetings, and TICKETS to see the president. Well whooop de $#&*@$& doo. I and my family have met presidents and vice-presidents, a crown prince and numerous dignitaries, senators and the like and we have never, I repeat NEVER had to have a frigging TICKET to see any of them. You can KEEP your DAM TICKETS because I could care less about getting into a town hall meeting with someone like Arlen Spectre, who is on life support anyway, standing there forcing himself to smile and giving stupid “non-answers” to questions. When Arlen Spectre or any of his fellow cronies say “Yes, that is one of the ideas I am going to take back to Washington” it really decodes as “Sit down and shut up because I am not writing this down, I will immediately forget you and your stupid question when I leave here and I could care less about anything but staying in the Senate and pretending to be somebody important until I finally keel over and die”. Yes, certain agencies do, such as the IRS. But this grants the power to the “Health Choice Administration” employees to gather “tax return information or other such information that may be required to determine eligibility”.
I imagine the “other such information” pretty much means ANYTHING THEY WANT.
There are very strict (cough) laws that limit the sharing of tax information by the IRS.

Have we forgotten how these people work? They get in your face, paint blood on their hands, carry banners, disrupt lectures and speaking engagements by conservatives, and protest, protest, protest to the Nth degree, when they are out of power, but once they are in, anything WE say is “Astroturf”, “Hate speech”, “Fringe”, and “Nazi”.
Sorry to say this? But I almost HOPE they ram-rod this thing through. If they do, they’ll be run out of power in `10 and `12 in a whitewash….
Tarring and feathering is another great American custom that hasn’t been used enough in DC lately.
