Wild Misrepresentation Watch: Obama lies about AARP endorsement

Photo credit: Mark at Weapons of Mass Discussion
President Obama assailed “wild misrepresentations” by his opponents at the Portsmouth town hall today.
But he wildly misrepresented his position on single payer.
And he wildly misrepresented the AARP’s position on Obamacare:
…the President may have overstated support for his plan in one instance. When asked about the potential impact of the reform plan on Medicare, the President said, “The AARP would not be endorsing a bill if it was undermining Medicare.” Problem is – the AARP has not yet endorsed the plan. The New Hampshire head of the AARP chapter here told ABC’s Lisa Chinn today that the AARP hasn’t yet made up its mind as an organization whether to endorse the bill.
President Obama, meet the AARP rank-and-file:
***
Obama has a history of wild misrepresentation of companies’ positions on his bills. Remember Caterpillar?
And this?

Great catch. It will be interesting to see if the AARP even bothers to correct him.
Oh no, please don’t make me watch that horrible biatch at the AARP meeting again…
Does Obama lie? Only when his mouth moves.
ppfttthhttt its onlt the truth Michelle, what is the truth to obama???
and this:
Oh, I’m not so sure who is really lying here…
Only someone who knows with assurance that his keester is covered at all times by the MSM could be so constantly cavalier with hi comments.
hi = his SORRY
Obama would lie if the truth sounded better.
Fixed it.
Obama would make a good used-Yugo salesman.
I think he’s a pathological liar. He couldn’t tell the truth to save his own a$$.
Southside Barry has long claimed that he can do more than one thing at the same time. He never said that he could do any of them well.
Rep. Isakson is now saying he has not worked with the WH about this bill and that he is opposed to the bill. Now who is doing the lying?
I hope to goodness all us ‘olders’ have more than the two brain cells more than bho has to see what this bho, team, and most of the dc bunch has in store for our Republic. We have been through WW11, Korea, VN, and what is happening now. Our family members have died. WE all ‘us olders’ were willing to make this nation the best in the world. Now this, I can not think of a word to say for this person, thinks we ‘olders’ do not count? WELL, bho and team, WE have read what our Founders signed to make our Republic. We have read what you and the dc bunch wants to give us and it stinks. We do not want to be a nation we died for to become. I think you have have no idea what the American’s are about. It is not gonna work here!
L
Here is what AARP members who were disrespected and condescended to by those at the meeting, meaning those who reprimanded the audience members/participants, can do …
Withdraw membership and alliance with AARP immediately.
Let AARP chiefs call meetings and speak to an absolutely empty room.
Let AARP leadership notice that they don’t have any money coming into the coffers and close their doors forever.
No support of any kind. No funds of any kind coming in. All sponsors of AARP notified that their products will be boycotted.
Let’s see AARP chiefs just try to stick their noses up in the air at the rank and file again.
Here is the Robert’s Rules of Order for the Demcorats/Leftists/Fifth Columnists/Condescending, Arrogant thugs out there: Disrespect all who don’t agree with you. Cut them off, don’t let them speak. If they voice their opinion, call them names, demonize them, associate them with Nazis, violent thugs, dummies, organized “Republicans,” , etc., as if there is something wrong with being organized. Leftists, including Union organizations, are CLEARLY organized and go into these things with advanced planning, while the demonized individuals who voice their opposition, or ask tough questions, are clearly legitimate, authentic, honest individuals who were inspired to come out and learn and communicate.
The reward for their efforts? Violence against them. Condescension. Demonization. Dismissiveness.
What arrogance!
No, he didn’t make a mistake. He never does. This is just you rightwing nutjobs misrepresenting what he said.
He was talking about the AARP (Anti American Retired Preachers). Reverend Jeremiah Wright is the president and has fully endorsed the plan.
Rookie Presidents seem to make these errors a lot. They don’t realize the symbolic nature of the office itself. As an example, I saw GW Bush do something similar with his “cowboy” comments such as “dead or alive” It took a couple of years before GW figured out that the office was more than just him as a man. It represents an ideal bigger than man. It represents freedom, justice etc.
The President must be very judicious in his comments because they carry much more weight and meaning than maybe the office holder even envisioned. Shooting from the hip and trying to be cool are not trademarks of Presidential experience.
Obama has not learned this lesson. The MSM is giving him some leeway but I think Obama is just too much of a freshman to know better.
Oh, and he is the height of arrogance so he makes more bad, stupid, irresponsible comments than most.
Okay d1carter, you’ve made your allegation, so where is your source that he was in fact working with the WH?
Maybe we need to turn him into Linda Douglas for spreading disinformation about the health care plan. This definitely qualifies as “fishy”.
FIFY
Pants on fire
One of my relatives died recently and the family went to cancel the AARP insurance and was told that Medicare had canceled the policy months ago. AARP failed to notify the family that the policy was canceled and hasn’t sent a refund for the payments made after the cancellation. AARP also would not give a reason why the gov was able to terminate a private policy. Oh, and the gov had nothing to say either.
That the AARP is hasn’t spoken out LOUDLY against this bill is astounding.
Hasn’t taken a position? Why not already?
Obama has a habit of lying about what others have said, or about their stance on an issue. He does it because he knows very few people has the nerve to stand-up for themselves and call him on his lies. When they do, it is inevitably buried by the MSM.
Concensus through intimidation and lies. What a great leader we have in POTUS.
I fear even the lies are misdirection. This guy really can’t be this stupid.
the aarp is as tone deaf to it’s constituents as the dems. “there there dear, your just a little confused. we’re taking care of everything for you.” in chicago thug speak that translates to “sit down and shut up, or my gumbas will break your kneecap.” unfortunately white hairs vote, and these bozos ignore and denegrate them at their peril.
Maybe he can replace Billy Mays.
This is not a lie! It’s now known as ‘funtruth’.
The AARP just needs a little more “convincing.” Apparently they haven’t been keeping up with the script.
Obama thinks we are all brain dead union thugs who willingly swallow his lies, hook, line and sinker.
Sorry Barry, We the People, are not as dumb as you hoped. We know a liar when when we see one, and you’re one.
I can’t wait for the part where the AARP Lady (insert derogatory euphemism of choice here) unplugs the microphone on Obama! (munching popcorn) More cheese Gromit!
What is that old saying? Tell a lie long enough and pretty soon you’ll start to believe it? Wellll.
I completely agree, BUT the big three alphabet lamestream media lie along with obama so that half of the country will NEVER hear the truth. They will only hear obama lies via the 30 minutes of news they get on TV in the evening.
Obama lies with impunity KNOWING that most people will NOT check up on him and the msm will not correct his distortions in their own news stories.
That’s what scares the crap outta me.
What can we do to get the reality of this deceitful and dangerous obama admin to more people?
Thank God for MM’s, websites and books.
Ya coulda fooled me about the AARP not endorsing the bill. Their emails to members sound like they were written by Obama operatives.
Obama speaks = Obama lies
Q.E.D.
Remove Obama!
“I urge you to join the cause. Together, we can make sure that every American has access to affordable, quality health care for generations to come. The time to act is now.” – Barry Rand, CEO AARP
AARP did make a statement that President Obama’s claim was inaccurate.
What about the claim during the town hall that FedEx and UPS can compete with the post office/government. Obama said it was the post office that was always having the problems. And we want the government to now run health care?
I think not.
The Truth and Problems with Government Running Business
Geez…you guys are all missing it. AARP has endorsed the plan, they just haven’t told the membership. Big O’s not lying, he just jumped the gun on the announcement. AARP will now have to wait a little longer to “study” the plan some more before announcing the endorsement they’ve already assured the whitehouse will be forthcoming.
BO just can’t keep such a juicy secret.
Taking bets Onobama does not see it that way and never will?
Doesn’t Zero know that AARP members are the same as those rabble rousing, Swastika carrying, wild eyed Nazis that Nancy and Dingell ( I would change my name if it were Dingell)are denouncing?
No. Single payer is not part of any of the bills. There is (almost) no support for it in Congress. Obama said a few years ago that single payer is a good idea. But that is not the same as saying it’s in the present bills. It isn’t.
There is confusion on this (shark here). I heard on the radio today an ad for health care reform from the AARP. Somebody there with some budget likes it.
Maybe you should go back to the substance of health care reform rather than these side issues.
Question: Republicans have long argued that we should cut Medicare. Now they’re using that as a scare tactic: Obamacare will mean cuts in Medicare! Should we cut Medicare or not? If we should, should we use the possibility of Obama cutting Medicare as an argument against health care reform?
I am not saying which one is lying. But Barack said that it was Isakson’s work that the Dems included in the bill and Isakson denies working with the WH on the provision. My question was: “Who is lying now?” Do you know?
Obama is lying. People will be dying.
Used yugo salesman. Billy Mays. Pretty good ones.
LGM,
It is my understanding, not that the Republicans have “long argued” cutting Medicare, but rather they proposed slowing the annual rate of growth to twice the rate of inflation.
Wasn’t that one of the big fights back in the 90s?
Barrack Hussein Obama (Peace be unto Him. Praise His Holy Name. Curse those who disagree with Him. Worship Him at all times with every thought, word, and deed. Devote yourself to Him completely, give Him your worries, your fears, and your burdens, and He will give you Peace. Surrender to Him and He will Save you from Eternal Damnation. Praise and Adoration be showered upon Him always and forever, Amen. Our Lord. Our Savior. Our Messiah come to deliver us. /sarcasm off) is not in the same league as Billie Mays.
Billie was more charismatic, friendly, congenial, likable, sincere, and warm.
Our Lord, Savior, Messiah, Dear Leader, Mister Hope and Change, Mister “Yes, We can!,” The Community Organizer-in-Chief does not speak as well without a TelePrompTer as Billie Mays did, nor is he as bright, energetic, and benevolent as Billie Mays.
In some ways, Barrack Hussein Obama (Peace be Unto Him. Praise His Holy Name … etc., etc., etc.) comes off as arrogant, condescending, malevolent, sinister, dishonest, misleading, deceitful, and inhumane.
The contrast between Billie Mays and Our Lord and Savior, Messiah, Mister Hope and Change, is overwhelming.
Michelle didn’t say it was in the bill. She said that Obama supported it.
Explicitly helping the automakers wasn’t in the cash-for-clunkers bill, but that’s the effect it’s having.
Moving towards single payor isn’t in the bill, but that’s the effect it will have.
Did you watch the video? Did you miss Michelle’s point? Do pigs fly?
Republicans have argued for cutting medicare in a vacuum?
d1carter,
I misunderstood your post as an accusation- I would also like to know. My apologies.
Don’t you understand? He is the messiah,he can see the future,AARP just doesn’t know that it is going to endorse the bill yet…..but Obama knows.
Is it just me, or do I see an avalanche coming for both houses next November?
There is nothing within Obama that says to him “lying is wrong”…nothing. The only thing that ever inhibits his lying is the fear of getting caught. Much of the time that doesn’t work because he either can’t remember his last lie, or he is so lacking in knowledge of the subject he just says “something”. To be generous to him sometimes these statements aren’t lies, they are just stupid.
According to foxnews.com, the AARP has not endorsed his plan (either he lied or he’s stupid – take your pick). The AARP needs to be really careful now because seniors are seeing the healthcare plan for what it is – a death sentence to them. As it is, seniors are ticked-off that the AARP has not stood against the plan and are canceling their memberships.
lgm – what is your purpose for continually commenting on this site? Time and time again people have called you on your misinformation, your generalizations and all around ignornant statements. The only thing you’ve accomplished here is provide opportunities for conservatives to pick apart liberal thinking with logic. I guess we should thank you for the opportunities but honestly, you are tiresome.
There is absolutely NO DOUBT whatsoever, that if this bill passes, the senior citizens in this country will be thrown under the bus. Simple logic applies here.
1. You will have MORE people insured 2. They plan to cut Medicare benefits 3. They would limit payments to the doctors, thus causing them to opt out of Medicare, or not go into the medical field at all
4. Add all the BABY BOOMERS into the mix…what do you have?
Our Daddys came home from WWII and promptly started their families…9 months later, there occurred the biggest boom of babies born in the history of this country. Very few people have even brought up the fact that the baby boomers are now entering their 60′s. If this point can somehow get across to our boomers, there will be a lot more “discussion”. A lot of those same boomer were the radicals of the 1960 era and are still pretty active.
Obama can’t say, “We’re not going to pull the plug on grandma”. Because that is essentially what he is proposing. It is going to be difficult to provide healthcare to all these aging boomers under our CURRENT plan. Under Obama’s plan, we are completely screwed. He can’t spin his way out of those facts.
This is BS and everyone should know it. For once (mark it on your calendar everyone!) lgm was actually RIGHT (I can’t possibly believe I’m actually saying this, somebody pinch me.). AARP IS endorsing this plan, or at least they were right up until they were smacked up side the head with massive membership cancellations and boycotts and earfuls of venom from member phone calls. They have taken it in the arse at LEAST as hard and as roughly as all the Dem Reps have taken it. So now they are trying to revise history and back track. For once Obama was telling the truth, it is AARP throwing HIM under the bus this time.
Ya know, it is kind of interesting to compare the way the two groups (AARP and Dem congresscritters) have reacted to this. The congresscritters are scared and confused but they are still moving towards career oblivion at breakneck speed. AARP however is attempting to go from 60 to 0 and then back to 60 again in the opposite direction. The reason of course is the immediacy of the threat to their livelihoods. AARP needs money TODAY. If they have a run on membership cancellations and demands for refunds, they will have an immediate cash crunch.
Congresscritters on the other hand have another year or more to wait for people to forget and forgive, and even if they are voted out of office, all we will have done is given them a chance to work as a paid lobbyist for far more money than they could ever steal as a congresscritter, so there is really very little downside for them.
The AARP is like the Blue Dog Dems. As McCain said: “The Blue Dogs bark, they don’t bite, and eventually they roll over and play dead”. This is exactly what happened when 4 of the little puppies voted with Waxman to get this POS on the House floor for a vote. Glenn Beck destroyed a top level AARP idiot who had no clue what was in this bill.
Obama Lies! The Sun rose in the East! The AARP runs for cover at first sign of resistance! Obama will not pull plug on Grandma while anyone watches!
More at 11:00.
And Grandpa ain’t too thrilled either

Rorschach said (#59):
The anti reform people are producing a misinformation: death boards, euthanasia, single payer, government takeover of medicare, etc. A funny recent one was about brilliant and severely disabled physicist Steven Hawking: if he had been British, their national health service death board would have denied him life saving treatments. It turns out that (Duh) he is British and his life has been saved by the NHS.
That part of the statement doesn’t tell the whole story (Michelle’s point). It’s misleading for Obama to make this type of claim.
There ya go. Couldn’t Obama have been as honest as you about this?
Yes. You are confused. Your life jumped the shark a long time ago.
So is Obama.
So is everyone that attempts to claim what will and what won’t be in a law which hasn’t been fully processed yet.
So is everyone that attempts to claim what impact a reform law will and won’t have.
Clever; dishonest but clever.
It is not Reform but Nationalization-Socialized medicine. And no WE are not producing misinformation-MANDATORY “End of Life Counseling” is a Death Board. Denying treatment to diabetics, regardless of expected life term (Obama today), is a Death Board as is giving pain killers instead of treatment to the elderly.
But you are clever.
I guess you missed the video where Barney said the current bill would be a stepping stone to single payer. I guess you missed the video where advocates of single payer said the current bill is not a Trojan Horse, it’s the real thing, a means to the end of single payer.
IOW you’re worse than disingenuous, you’re a frackin liar.
The “death board” argument misses the point: boards will set up standards based on statistics, and YOU will live or die, or receive/be denied treatment, based on your statistical outcome.
For example: Right now, the statistical outcome of surviving breast cancer caught at a particular stage is “X”, based on a bell curve or other distribution.
Once the boards are set up, the curve goes away, and the mean outcome becomes the outcome the board bases its treatment standards on.
So if you have a breast cancer that aggressive treatment stands a good change of curing, you won’t get it. You will get a statistically based treatment.
IOW your outcome will be forced toward the mean outcome.
Unless, of course, your prognosis is poor. In that case you won’t get the aggressive treatment, either.
Your non-response to Miss Cheryl’s statement contains the answer to why you are so roundly and often insulted. You just can’t see it, can you lgm? Many many posters, including me, on this blog have told you MULTIPLE times that you leave us no choice about insulting you. We could ignore you, but we can’t let you get away with staining this blog with impunity. So just keep on posting your tripe, and we’ll keep kicking your a$$. Maybe if you start engaging intelligently people will stop insulting.
AARP folded like a lawnchair—taken from Republican as against a Blue dog Democract. Heel–Heel. Good Boy! Here’s your payoff–oops-I mean treat. Lgm–you must love these wobbly Dems.
Medicare is the heart of the issue and HR3200 will cut doctor pay.
If AARP endorses that idea then every AARP member should stop paying their dues.
Cutting doctor pay will -
A. Increase the number of doctors accepting medicare and improve quality?
B. Decrease the number of doctors accepting medicare and threaten quality?
Will the CBO please report how much savings there will be if doctor pay is cut to ZERO?
(This is basically the same kind of logic that Bob Packwood used asking the CBO about a 100% tax rate. He asked them how much more revenue would be collected for the prior tax year at the top bracket if the rate was changed to 100% and they dutifully returned some huge figure. Then he asked them how much revenue would be collected for that top bracket the next year – and they again gave some huge figure… BZZZT!)
Sorry, (my memory is going…) – not the CBO as stated above, it was the Joint Committee on Taxation back in 1988
Anyway, along those lines, the point is that the more socialists squeeze doctors and other health care professionals – the fewer of them there will be to go around exactly as what has happened in Britain and Canada.
I have one more fly to throw into this ointment of liberal ‘logic’ similar to Rush Limbaugh’s (and others’), question concerning the minimum wage. Basically, it asks if raising the minimum wage by $1, for example, is such a ‘good thing’ then why not just raise it to $50 or $100 per hour?
Liberals CAN NOT and WILL NOT answer that question!
Likewise, if the government can cut the salary of doctors and other health care professionals ‘save money’ then WHY NOT just cut it to ZERO?
The obvious thing to do is both; raise the minimum wage to $100 for everyone … EXCEPT doctors who will all work for free!
(And liberals should also declare… From this day on, the official language of San Marcos will be Swedish. …. )
