What’s the SEIU up to now?; Another Democrat calls Obamacare protesters “political terrorists”

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 12, 2009 03:28 PM

The Purple Shirts are hiring new musclemen to build an “organizing department.”

Watch out (hat tip: Crabby Con):

WAVE: Apply Now

YES! I want to help lead the strongest movement of working families in America.

Individuals interested in employment with SEIU’s organizing department should complete this application form. Please fill out all the fields. Applications without a full resume and cover letter will not be considered for this program.

***

Meantime, another Democrat lawmaker, Rep. Baron Hill of Indiana, is smearing town hall protesters as “political terrorists” — using the same language the SEIU’s Dennis Rivera used in his conference call with the purple mob last week.

The GOP wants an apology.

Don’t hold your breath. They’re just going to double down.

Oh yeah, “union organizers”. I work in San Francisco. SEIU here has lots of “union organizers”. They spend most of their time harrassing businesses that refuse to deal with SEIU. One of their favorite tactics is when trying to unionize hotel workers, SEIU send their “organizers”, i.e. goons, to stand on the sidewalk outside the hotel with drums, metal pots, and bullhorns to wake up the hotel guests at 5 a.m. I work for government here. I am not a member of the union but California law requires me to pay an “agency fee” to SEIU to the tune of $1,200 per year. Yeah, I just looooove SEIU.

I get about one-third of this money back every year. That’s the part that SEIU says is used for “political activie”. They must refund that part to us. However, you must contact the union every year and request it via a letter. They used to try to tell us that you could only contact them during a five-day window in November. That was illegal and we told them so. Some of us threatened a lawsuit, so they backed down.

SEIU is the most thuggish bunch I’ve ever seen. Almost one-third of my co-workers refuse to join. The public workers in the suburban county where I live actually de-certified SEIU! It was awesome.

    Liberals Literally Buying Support

One of the more frustrating refrains used by liberals looking to denigrate the popular outrage against ObamaCare is to dismiss the protests as “Astroturf” or the “Brooks Brothers Brigade.” Both suggest that opposition to socialized healthcare has been artificial or bought and paid for, that it’s not a genuine grassroots uprising, but “manufactured anger,” as the White House press secretary recently put it. Everybody knows that the Left has a lock on popular opinion, right? After all, Obama won the election, so you angry mobsters just need to sit down and stop talking!

The charge is patently false. In fact, the exact opposite is true. The Left has a history of using “rent-a-mobs” like ACORN’s “muscle for money” program. Now there is more proof that liberals are literally having to buy support for ObamaCare. Sunday, the RedState blog posted links to Craig’s List ads looking to hire activists to promote ObamaCare for $11-16 per hour. Meanwhile, Rich Lowry of the National Review writes that the drug industry has cut a deal with the Obama White House and will spend $150 million this summer on ads promoting ObamaCare. And we know the labor unions are spending millions on ads and turning out their supporters too.

With Big Labor and Big Business in bed with Big Government, it’s amazing this bill has been slowed down at all. But who is looking out for average Americans? You are! You are not being fooled by the double-talk and slick rhetoric. You know Big Government’s track record of wasteful spending and inefficient bureaucracy. And you don’t want it getting in the way of the healthcare you and your family need.

The reason I cite Paglia from time to time is because I want to respect opinions I don’t necessarily share and Paglia is practices the virtues of honest debate in an open society as it should be practiced. She has a formidable intellect of the first order, is intellectually honest, is deeply rooted in the best traditions of classic liberal Western civilization, has an unwavering commitment to the facts, doesn’t try to win arguments with cute twists and is fearless in attacking hypocrisy. She consistently “gets it”. We should have more such people on our side.

That Paglia, a lesbian libertarian Democrat, is so openly dismayed at the sophomorically catastrophic performance of her team should be a serious wake up call to the Dems. They are in great peril with even their most loyal followers. The ship has run aground and they are in denial.

The problem we have on both sides of the partisan divide is a strong tendency to disregard the facts or cherry-pick those facts that further our cause. It is counterproductive.

It is impossible to respect each others’ opinions if we can’t first agree on the facts. A well-stated argument based on indisputable facts is much more effective than the most passionate arguments based on rhetoric and distortions.

Truth resonates with those we seek to persuade. Paglia speaks the truth, even when we disagree on opinion. That distinction is what makes us civilized.

It often seems like Oscar Wilde was right when he observed that “America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between.”

    Absolutely!

It was unusual for me to mention the despicable SPLC without pausing to go into its sordid history. If anyone passes here who does not know a lot about them, google them along with Harpers, which did a devastating investigative piece on them some years back. Harpers basically said that SPLC founder and major buttboy, Morris Deeds, is a rapacious fraud who has made himself a pile of money out of his righteous posturing. When you are on the left and Harper’s Magazine goes after you like this, you must truly have a problem.

What upsets me most about the SPLC is how they work local television with their news releases. Time and time again I hear my local airheads doing “news” stories that are really just propaganda packages fed to them by the SPLC. The local TV airheads are not really dedicated libs themselves, they are just ambitious “communications majors,” who go thoughtlessly along with this crap. It does a lot of damage.

Gee, must be going around because that sounds just like Al Gore.

The dumba$$ SEIU useful idiots don’t realize that they are defeating their own purpose by supporting Obamacare.
The biggest recruiting tool a union has is the promise of employer provided medical insurance. When everyone has government provided insurance, the unions will not be able to recruit new members, but will lose membership.
Why would anyone pay union dies for something they can get for the price of increased taxes, that they are forced to pay?

Well, we’ll just have to have our own “civilian militia.”

A terrorist could be defined as one who uses violence and intimidation to get their way, even if it goes against the prevailing opinion of the majority. Sounds like the SEIU to me!
