Hey, Rep. Betsy Markey: You’re invited to a town hall meeting you refuse to hold! Updated

Reader Kelly e-mails that Colorado Democrat Rep. Betsy Markey is hiding from her constituents and refusing to hold a public forum during this long, hot congressional recess.
So Kelly has graciously taken the opportunity to convene a town hall for Rep. Markey — and extended an open invitation. If the congresswoman doesn’t show, her voters will have a placeholder ready:
Hi Michelle,
Thought you’d get a kick out of this grass-roots movement we have going on here in Northern Colorado. This all started with a rant I made to a few of my buddies in an email, complaining that our rep, Congresswoman Markey, is nowhere to be found! Here we are 2 weeks into a 5 week recess, other reps are having 2-3 townhalls to meet demand while this crazy health care debate is raging, and Markey has only issued a vague statement about “small public gathers, schedule to be release probably next week!”
That’s unacceptable, and we’re doing something about it! I mentioned in my rant that we should hold our own town hall and put a big empty chair up there on stage where our elected Rep. should be!
Well, one thing led to another and here we go. We’ll video the entire affair and hand deliver it to her office along with petitions and letters that anyone who turns out is free to give to us.
I’d rather be fishing with my boys, but I’ve reached a tipping point this year and I’m not going to be silent anymore!
Wish us luck!!!!
Regards,
Kelly Trosper

Press Release
Citizens Invite US Rep to Her Own Town Hall Meeting
FORT COLLINS, COLORADO, A community town hall meeting will be held Aug 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Council Tree Library in Fort Collins. The only thing missing from this meeting might be Northern Colorado’s US Representative, Betsy Markey (D-CO).
After numerous unsuccessful requests to receive Markey’s town hall meeting schedule Kelly Trosper, a Fort Collins resident, and several of his frustrated friends, have taken the unusual step of scheduling a town hall meeting on behalf of Markey — and inviting her to speak.
“With the August recess nearly half way over, we can’t wait any longer. When other Reps across the nation are adding extra meetings, we still don’t have a schedule from her. This is a forum to discuss urgent topics, to include Health Care reform. We’re having to set one up ourselves, because our Rep isn’t making herself available,” says Trosper, who hopes she will attend.
In case Markey doesn’t attend, the group will have a video of the proceedings delivered to her along with letters that come via email to nocotownhall@gmail.com.
Trosper and his friends are calling their grassroots effort the Northern Colorado Townhall Committee, and have set up a Web site for other community members awaiting information, www.nocotownhall.com.
Trosper says the Northern Colorado Townhall Committee’s objective is to provide a forum for community members to discuss what is important to taxpayers in Northern Colorado.
“If she won’t put together a town hall for us, the folks of Northern Colorado who elected her to represent our views to D.C., we’ll put one together for her.”

Well, lookee here: A new town hall schedule for Rep. Markey.

How do these cowards get elected?
Excelllent….!!!!!</strong>
Way to go Kelly!!! Good luck and this should take hold all over America for the elected who are too chicken to go before the citizens.
L
Some folks here in Vegas are doing the same thing. Neither of our Senators (Reid and Ensign – one whacky Dem and a Repbulican who can’t keep it in his pants) nor the two Reps (Berkley and Titus – both Dems) are having town meetings (although Harry did have a Green summit here with Bill Clinton and Manbearpig). So a local radio talkshow hostess named Heidi Harris is having one for them and filming it so they can give it to our employees to review at their leisure.
Instead of an empty chair, please put an empty suit on stage. That would better represent your representative.
The next thing on the agenda should be to find someone to replace the Colorado idiot, and send her out looking for gainful employment NOT on the taxpayer’s dime.
If they put an empty suit on stage, someone might mistake it for the president.
Oh dear! It’s “in absentia,” not “in abstentia“
Oops, I didn’t mean to click the “submit” button just yet. Wanted to add that I hope to see this kind of initiative among voters all over the country. Politicians who won’t be confronted by their constituents are cowards.
My wife and I are going to a Town Hall meeting this evening with our Rep Mary Fallin (Oklahoma). She will not vote for the health care reform package, but we need to show her our support just the same. And to counter any counter protests, if any. Will report back if any contentions arise.
These reps have grown so used to not listening to the American people it has become common place. Many use townhalls as their final sounding board and when these reps get criticism, they just ignore it and continue along their merry way.
This rep should be ashamed of herself. But she won’t. Because these politicians as well as the White House have no shame. This is THEIR country now and we SERVE them and our concerns for the future be damned.
They have gone to ground.
Perhaps they can nominate someone to run against her in the process!
Have y’all heard about the fake townhalls being put up online and in emails by the democrat thug machine? Disgusting.
This should be good…
Great idea, Ft. Collins. I might suggest making the background on the web site a dark blue to make the text a little easier to read.
No, wait, forget that. If the web site looks too slick, everyone will know you are just a front for evil insurance company execs.
No, wait, the MSM and libs are onto our hand painted protest signs and fake anger and modest web sites. They have found out it’s all orchestrated and produced by Dick Cheney at a secret site up in Cheyenne.
Seriously though, a great idea for a town hall, Ft. Collins. Give a warm welcome to my niece entering vet school at Colorado St. in the fall.
A friend of mine in Ohio called Senator Sherrod Brown’s office a while ago to ask (politely) if he’d be having a townhall. She said the lady she spoke to was very rude to her and said she wasn’t able to give out his schedule. My friend later called his DC office and someone there told her that they didn’t have a date for a townhall. Then today my friend tells me that lo and behold, Senator Brown had a townhall but the announcement for it showed up on his website the day of the event, and she never saw it published anywhere (although she might have missed it). She was pretty mad. They’re laying (or is that lying?) as low as they can I guess to avoid us.
Also, here in NH our Senator Sheehan (D) had a telephone conference townhall from DC. Over 15,000 were on the call and 500 were holding to ask a question. She spoke for a little over an hour, although kept leaving to take a vote on the cash for clunkers so had an Obama spokesperson helping her out. 15,000+ people — And this is NH. Our biggest city only has 100,000 people in it!
We say no no no.
They say na na na (with hands over ears)
Is anybody keeping a list of the Cowardly Reps and Senators who are not holding Town Hall meetings?
Please add Nancy Pelosi’s name to the list!
I like the CongressChicken I suggested a few days back.
Get a real chicken. Set in on the podium.
Ask questions. Tape the chicken’s responses.
Post video to the internet.
Repeat as needed.
Her campaign against Marilyn Musgrave was one of the nastiest ever in Colorado. It’s no surprise that she’d dodging constituents.
Since Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senators Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer refuse to hold a Town Hall Meeting in San Franciso, the Bay Area Patriots will be holding a Mock Town Hall meeting and Candle Vigil for our missing Representatives in San Francisco tomorrow.
Date: Friday August 14
Time: 1:00 – 5:00 pm
Place: Justin Herman Plaza, San Francisco, CA

If you are in the area, come out to join the fun!
No Town Hall meetings in the Libtard state of Illinois, except one hosted by Jan Schanowsky and a handful by Danny Davis.
I think Jesse Jackson Jr is hiding from the feds and his wife is gearing up for her run for Lt Gov.
Ah yes, Fort Collins, site of the famous “Dan’s Bake Sale”.
Brilliant. Simply brilliant!
How about an actor to portray the rep? The actor can nod her head and say next question without answering like Arlen Spector, can say I just don’t get it like Claire Mccaskill, can talk on the cell phone like Sheila Racist Lee, and can tell everyone to stop telling lies like Barack Obama. (that’s Obama telling people to stop telling lies, not Obama telling lies).
Then at the end the actor can thank everyone, tell them how important it is to hear them out and let them vent and then tell them they are all wrong and she will vote yes on the health care bill because she is smarter than all the people who showed up with handmade signs made by Dick Cheney. That would be good realistic acting.
I am definitely going to the one in San Francisco
Kelly Trosper, you and your friends in Northern Colorado just made my day!!!
My hat’s off to you, sir, and I wish you the best of good fortune in your endeavor.
I would suggest a carpet runner of astroturf leading up to and underneath the chair you reserve for Representative Markey.
I hate to admit it, but I’m not brave enough to attend any “town hall” meetings here in Honolulu.
The Democrat congresspersons (Sen. Inouye, Sen. Akaka, Rep. Abercrombie, and Rep. Hirono) always stack the deck with hundreds of union members and state workers. With my big mouth, I’d wind up on a stretcher. Any conservatives are always as welcome as a whore at a Baptist picnic.
…and make it a purple chair.
Listening tour? Geez, with only air in her head, anything anyone one says should just blow right on through.
Ah, those silly lefties…cowards…spineless…blood-sucking (according to Lou Dobbs, they deserve a stake through their hearts)….
…still dreaming of a world without a single lefty left standing …
purple chair indeed. That’s funny.
Good luck Kelly.
HA!!! I love it!
I like Rags idea, but I’d suggest a rubber chicken, because it’s infinitely more useless. Put a dunce cap on it, too.
I am living and breathing for 2010!!!
Awesome Kelly.
In other good news. Brian Baird (WA ST 3rd CD) has apologized for his comparing Americans who are voicing their opinions on health care to Nazi Brown Shirts and Timothy McVeigh and is planning on holding town hall meetings after all(and actually giving decent notice):
I believe that this is in direct response to many of his constiuents (on all sides of the political spectrum) letting him know that his cancelling of town halls is unacceptable (he usually has multiple town hall meetings every recess).
she was waiting to get her SEIU/union workers/supporters lined up to sneak into the townhall.
Mail them all pink slips! If they can’t face the voters then why should they be trusted to write legislation or talk to representatives from foreign countries? They work for us!
Colorado is really starting to impress me, the tea parties that the elected representatives avoided like the plague, the town hall meetings that the elected representatives are avoiding like the plague… unfortunately the average Colorado citizen votes like they drive which is a scary thing indeed.
Give me a shout when you need someone to help heat up the tar and start opening the pillows at the capitol building.
They are, as you say, lying low *(see #25) – on the other hand, they are trying to lay us low *(scroll down to #64) with all their lying *(#1).
You have a lot of company.
Meanwhile, kudos to everyone who has gone to a townhall, and to those who’ve written and/or phoned their reps in the House and Senate.
Don’t quit!
Hey, Rep. Betsy Markey…be afraid…be very afraid! You should be. The Sharleton Club of Washington, D.C. will be losing some of it’s members in 2010, and I’m sure someone will remember to put your name on that list of personas non grata come election time.
“If you can’t take the heat…” Well, in this case, you probably shouldn’t have been in the kitchen in the first place. Afterall, anyone can light a fire, but a responsible person will tend it.
Colorado has some of the most embarrassingly inept “representation” in Washington. We must have more idiots per capita than any other state’s delegation (and, yes, I’m well aware of the loony-toons from California).
What a ballsy idea. I always said real conservatives are smart. Kudos and good luck.
We should do wave of these across the country.
Good job people of Northern Colorado, you are true American Patriots….keep up the great work.
From Markey’s notice for her meetings. Do you think 15-20 folks per meeting will satisfy the peons? Oh, and don’t come too early (so you might voice your dissatisfaction if you can’t get in?) and this is a “listening session” so keep your lip zipped.
From the Notice: “Note on Congress on Your Corner listening session format:
In order for as many 4th District residents as possible to speak directly with Rep. Markey, residents will join groups of 15-20 people for public listening sessions. 4th District residents are asked to arrive no more than 30 minutes in advance of the meeting, to accommodate residents’ work and family schedules and so that everybody who would like to ask a question has an opportunity to do so.”
How ’bout a cardboard cut out? It would be just as intelligent.
Look up “ditzy broad” in your Funk & Wagnalls. There you’ll find Betsy’s picture at the top of the definition.
did i miss something? i looked at her schedule page, and she doesn’t even tell you if she is a democrat or a republican. obfuscate, lie, and blame others. the keys to being an elected slug.
Maybe she fears for her safety. Quite a few of them have death threats so…
Everyone who can possibly spare the time should make a point of showing up, and show up early or there will only be 15-20 SEIU thugs in her majesty’s “audience.” Carry good cameras so there is plenty of video. The best part of the reports on this will likely be her majesty’s thugs shutting people out.
Right now is the time to start asking how many lines will be allowed for the “Tele-Town Hall Meeting.”
Does anyone know what the “Seniors Day Event” is?
Fishy stuff. Maybe it should be flagged to the flag@whitehouse.gov Purpleshirts.
Make us proud of you, Colorado!
only if there is a teleprompter there…lol
I went to Rep. Mary Fallin’s town hall this evening…no mob scene there at all but lots of applause for patriots making points. We did have a few libtards there but they didn’t get much of a voice. I was a tad bit disappointed at her for not answering some specific questions that seemed fairly easy…oh well a pol is a pol even some of the better ones…to her credit since there were some 200-300 people who couldn’t get into the SRO room, she ushered the first batch out 30 minutes after cut off time and held a 2nd meeting with them so that they had a chance to ask questions! what a trooper…of course that is her job isn’t it….still most of them would have walked out and couldn’t have cared less…she did get kudos from the crowd for not using a teleprompter…
She likes to hide her LIBERAL DEMOCRAT skin under 12 feet of Colorado mountain snow. She intentionally does NOT list her lunacy political association WOW! She sure likes to have rotating background images of windmills and OIL WELL RIGS. Hmmmm, what is her voting record and statements on drilling oil domestically? I guess it doesn’t matter, she is a Democrat and that is all that we need to know. Liar Liar Liar. Avoid real issues with informed constituents. Another Saul Alinsky love child.
Might I suggest not an empty suit, but a mannequin wearing a suit. Then you would have a dummy in the front of the townhall, not the actual dummy, but at least a dummy playing a dummy!
http://www.austinreed.co.uk/pws/images/catalogue/suits/sbl_men_charcoalpindotsuit/large/mannequin_1.png
I kind of like the ones without heads, because, like most CongressCritters, their heads are most likely stuck firmly up their posterior!
yes america first, i tried to see her voting record, and was flushed down the obfuscate hole. she certainly does not seem to be proud of her record and affiliations. she boldly proclaims on the front page her big oil connections, but where has she voted on anwar and off shore drilling. in a state vested in hunting and outdoor activities, what’s her rating with the nra as opposed to the environuts.
I notice all but one meeting (probably a mistake) is scheduled when residents are working: during the middle of the day.
Just right for people with their hands out…
Interesting the August 25 event isn’t listed on her schedule.
She must really care. Phht.
