Selective outrage of the MSM

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 13, 2009 07:20 AM

Bill Sammon points out what I reported on at length in my “Assassination Chic” chapter of Unhinged and in years of my Unhinged blog archives: Journalists don’t care about nutballs and extremely extreme extremists unless they can be used to embarrass conservatives.

As it has always been:

News outlets that are focusing on the incendiary rhetoric of conservatives outside President Obama’s town hall meeting Tuesday ignored the incendiary rhetoric — and even violence — of liberals outside an appearance by former President George W. Bush in 2002.

When Bush visited Portland, Ore., for a fundraiser, protesters stalked his motorcade, assailed his limousine and stoned a car containing his advisers. Chanting “Bush is a terrorist!”, the demonstrators bullied passers-by, including gay softball players and a wheelchair-bound grandfather with multiple sclerosis.

One protester even brandished a sign that seemed to advocate Bush’s assassination. The man held a large photo of Bush that had been doctored to show a gun barrel pressed against his temple.

“BUSH: WANTED, DEAD OR ALIVE,” read the placard, which had an X over the word “ALIVE.”

Another poster showed Bush’s face with the words: “F— YOU, MOTHERF—ER!”

A third sign urged motorists to “HONK IF YOU HATE BUSH.” A fourth declared: “CHRISTIAN FASCISM,” with a swastika in place of the letter S in each word.

Although reporters from numerous national news organizations were traveling with Bush and witnessed the protest, none reported that protesters were shrieking at Republican donors epithets like “Slut!” “Whore!” and “Fascists!”

Frank Dulcich, president and CEO of Pacific Seafood Group, had a cup of liquid thrown into his face, and then was surrounded by a group of menacing protesters, including several who wore masks. Donald Tykeson, 75, who had multiple sclerosis and was confined to a wheelchair, was blocked by a thug who threatened him.

Protesters slashed the tires of several state patrol cruisers and leapt onto an occupied police car, slamming the hood and blocking the windshield with placards. A female police officer was knocked to the street by advancing protesters, badly injuring her wrist.

Noel Sheppard has more.

Meanwhile, Patterico does more reporting the rest of the MSM won’t do — exposing an Obamacare supporter at Sheila Jackson Lee’s town hall who pretended to be a pediatrician.

Absolute moral authority, and don’t you dare question it, you political terrorist racists, you!

Luckily I didn’t see this bit of vomit-inducing agitprop. But I’d like to toss in a comment about what a piece of low-life scum Harry Smith really is.

The thing about Smith is that he actually has a rather pleasant persona most of the time, which is disarming. But he picks his moments and unloads some of the cheapest shots you will see anywhere in the MSM.

My feeling is that Smith really is not all that political or even thoughtful. But he has an instinct for the sucker punch that will delight his centrist-lib audience. He never used to miss a chance to show his righteous indignation at “Southern bigotry” or, specifically, at Jesse Helms. Quel courage!

Me too, 30, and I’m not very religious. I feel like I’m living my childhood all over again in a college town where the college professors were the unchallenged creme-de-la-creme who looked down on the townies. I feel like these politicians are so out of touch they no longer feel accountable to We The People.

What is worse is that I no longer feel like my vote counts (I’m an absentee NY voter) or that my voice or any of the people’s voices are being heard. There are elements in our country who hate the rest of us so much that they’d rather try unproven healthcare experiments than listen to reason and learn from current examples like the VA and Tricare.

I’m in my 30′s and I’m scared. I’m a Tricare beneficiary and I’m treated like crap. Tricare doesn’t value my privacy, nor does it treat my medical records with any kind of discretion or respect. They are prone to fraud and theft. Is this the kind of system these condescending bozos want for everybody but themselves?

On a sidenote: good luck pursuing your degree! I know you’ve been busy juggling the demands of school, work, and all that. It’s all worth it in the end.

On another note, who are you to determine when conservatives are outraged and when they’re not? You’ve got a lot of nerve. There are a whole lot more honest Conservatives in regards to Bush then there will ever be liberals in regards to Obummer.

You have no integrity and as somebody who has criticized the Bush administration (Michelle Malkin) you are barking up the wrong tree. Stick your “outrage regulations” where the sun don’t shine.

I would be glad for the Chronicle to act as “truth squad”. They could run a headline:

    They could follow up with:

Democratic Congressmen receive death threats over health care legislation.

Analysis: private health insurance contracts with hundreds of pages of legally binding fine print limit expensive treatments for the elderly

I have many times been tempted to make the same suggestion in how to handle the attention-seeking drivel from this loser, not that anyone here is really unaware of the best way to handle trolls.

I held back, because you’re not ignoring someone when you start a discussion about the need to ignore them. Sometimes, though, the discussion needs to be had so I am happy to chip in here.

So many times I have seem this creep become the focus of threads, and it does real damage to the forum. I don’t ever expect to speak to the troll again so I offer here my final farewell:

The “public options” is not mandatory. There should be as many options after reform as there are now.

If you don’t like your private health insurance why you could CHANGE IT.

Not true for most people, those who get health care through work. They are stuck with the provider the employer chooses.

Exactly, swede. But you cannot PROVE the public option will wipe out private insurance.

Reality is too complex to always be able to PROVE what is obvious to common sense. Until it is too late. The party of lawyers and race mongers and redistribution and the ‘living constitution’ perversion count on that fact.
