Sorry for the light bloggging. Back on a plane to Colorado. Had a fantastic time at AFP’s Right Online.

You can watch my Hot Air colleague Ed Morrissey’s speech here and my remarks here.

The energy at the conference was infectious. More later after I get home!

Talk amongst yourselves.

Working. I continue to be amazed at the misrepresentations regarding today’s hospice care, advanced dircective requirments, etc., by both sides of the health care issue. Especially when the real monster is rationing and “utilization review” that will take place in Obamacare.

Also amazed at how many pro-Obama folks have fallen back to this mantra, “There is no legislation in place, lets not get so excited…” answers.

Lost track of how many times I flagged someone or something…..

I wondering what in the world is Sen. Jim Webb, Virginia’s junior senator, doing in Myanmar? I suspect it isn’t to get the release of some American. I think the real reason is to enhance his image for reelection or something even better. He’s beginning to fit right in with the party…first and always, make yourself look better and the heck with the country. Sen. Webb, my senator, Virginia is just south of D.C.. You can catch a subway there. It isn’t halfway around the world. We have some real issues here in Virginia and not in Asia.

Anyone check out John Mackey’s op-ed in the WSJ on Obamacare? He’s the CEO of Whole Foods and boy did he torque a segment of his progressive-leaning customers.

Nearly 7,000 people, last time I checked, were organizing a “boycott” on Facebook. Man, are their knickers in a twist.

To be fair, the WSJ headline made it look like it was Whole Foods talking and not the individual CEO. Mackey points out in his blog, how he was trying to focus on personal responsibility as one key alternative to Obamacare.

The outrage from the left brings about a mix of incredulity and pity at what these folks so earnestly believe. They honestly think that we have a free market in health insurance and that private insurance firms are the bad guys.

Hey, they certainly make unpopular decisions…but guess what? They can because of the stupid laws and regulations that have come forth from Washington over the decades.

Mackey is right on with his analysis. And, though I hate paying extra for fruit, and I don’t give a damn about organic, I hear that WF has quite the beer and wine selection. I’ll be doing some shopping there.

    Bravo, Mr. Mackey!

sims — cancer can strike you at any moment! Are you willing to tell that cancer victim that they can’t have healthcare because they can’t afford it?

BTW, the person who tossed up that particular argument in the comments section of the CEO’s blog, pointed out that he could go to any cancer center in the US and find otherwise perfectly healthy people stricken with the Big C.

I didn’t have the patience to point out that if they could be found in a cancer center it would seem that they were receiving treatment.

People are getting way too emotional about this. I think proposals like Mackey’s and those from Michael Tanner at Cato are cheaper, fairer, and make a lot more sense. We need reform, no doubt, and that means, to me at least, that government should get out of the way.

The leaders had this “wink wink” kinda of relationship where wars were never really fought, they were just for show AND the outcome was already determined.

Part of the payment was to exact more taxes and fees from the common folks that would go the the Scottish leaders and the English leaders.

They’re claiming victory. For those outside Wisconsin, that bum would be Democrat Governor Jim “Craps” Doyle (WEAC/HoChunk-For Sale), perhaps the most-corrupt governor never indicted.

As for what now, a lot depends on whether he departs early. Things will certainly be exciting in the land of cheese and beer next summer, especially if Doyle departs early and makes Lt. Gov. We went to our state fair yesterday. In the main exhibit hall, the Democratic and Republican parties both have tables (on the extreme opposite ends of the hall, we noticed).

My husband wouldn’t let me anywhere near the Democrats’ table, probably because I (and a friend with us) wouldn’t be able to keep our mouths shut.

But we went to the Republican table. Lots of fair-goers stopped, almost all signed a petition against Obamacare and we bought some bumper stickers and buttons sure to get us reported to fish@whitehouse.gov several more times. :)

The spirit of the staffers was infectious, and fighting. Many who stopped by felt the same way. And the funniest thing was there was nary a Brownshirt in sight…someone should send a memo to Nancy Pelosi…

    The anger is very real.

Speaking sweetly isn’t going to cut it, and the people know it. The politicians and the media will ignore them. Furthermore, even when they do ask question in a “normal” voice, when it comes to all things Obama they know they will be targeted, a la Joe the Plumber.

Go ahead, fellow citizens. Let your voice be heard. Express yourself and let them know you mean business, for they already have their “filter” on. That filter, pre set, says “No on could possibly disagree, and, if someone does disagree, they must be nuts and we will dig up dirt on them and demonize them.”

    That is how leftists-liberals-Democrats roll.

I guess it depends on whether or not you like NZ’s very distinctive style on Sauv blanc. They are very bright and tend toward more exotic and tropical fruit tastes. The american and chilean sauv blancs will probably be a bit more austere and have some herbal, grassy tones to it.

For my money, if we are dealing with the same price point, NZ blows the US and especially Chile out of the water. Instead of a Chilean Sauv, I would try to find a french white from the Loire Valley, like Sancerre or Pouilly Fume.

I find it helps steel my nerves against many of the equally insipid posters here (not you).

Couldn’t agree more about Manhattans (made with rye, not bourbon). If I drink one around others, I tend to get a lot of Mad Men comments, a show I haven’t seen.

The show is brilliant. New season starting soon.

And while I might tipple a Guinness or two in mid-March to celebrate my Irish heritage, I prefer other beers. I’m a big proponent of the craft-beer industry. I support the little guys (and gals).

I love a wide variety of beers. I have recently discovered much love with the Stone Brewing Company. Also, I have been on a hoppy beer kick lately. Stone’s Ruination IPA is sublime.

But in the end, I always come back to Guinness.

My mother-in-law drinks Sidecars. Take from that what you will. Though I suspect you use Maker’s or Beam or something from Kentucky, while she uses a cheap cognac.

Nope. I am a purist. Three parts Cognac to two parts Cointreau to one part lemon juice is my preferred proportion. I don’t drink them often, and never order them in bars since you have no idea of the quality of ingredients or proportions they will use.

I could be mistaken but I think that’s the first time gray has acknowledged his area of practice. I point that out because I also do not remember him ever, when we’ve discussed health care reimbursement, whining about what pediatricians don’t make. In other words I tip my hat to him in the way he has not played the victim card regarding the consistently underpaid section of health care pediatricians and pediatrics represent. In terms of salary/investment in education you’d be better off as a nurse practioner in peds or a PA-C with peds speciality than a full blown physician.

Most of the time you can only look at one reason a doc pursues and stays in peds.

He used to be a Catholic priest and they kicked him out of the church and the only way he can be around young boys now is to be a pediatrician….

I’ll wait for the laughter to die down….

Cause a peds doc loves kids.

My hat is off to you gray….

Stone is standard brew, always a bottle or two in the fridge. I like Ruination quite a bit. If you and travelinman ever want a change of pace from your vodkatinis with a twist, try an Arrogant Bastard or even a Double Bastard around cellar temp in a big-bowled wine glass or a snifter. You’ll be wanting a cigar after a sip or two.

I know these comments are making a subset of us sound like lushes (or maybe it’s just me that sounds this way) but my digestif of choice is almost always a glass of Port. I do this in lieu of desert to keep my svelte figue in tact.

One last thing, not very important in the big scheme of things, but, thanks to ridiculous government rules and regulations regarding alcohol (at the federal, state, and local levels) it is nearly impossible to find a decent rye. Those of you lucky enough to be able to buy your spirits in a real private store can probably find whatever you want at reasonable prices. Those of us in ABC states have to go with what is “approved” and pay through the nostrils.

Once again, government, just get out of the way. But, please, keep the mafia out of it, too.

I can doze off a bit when I have a 95 year old with alzheimers who gets constipated once and awhile. The peds hospice nurses don’t get that luxury. They keep all the balls in the air at the same time.

The arguments over Obamacare have not done it any favors. The misrepresentations and, sorry, ignorance are quite astounding.

I work for a non-profit hospice. Biggest one in the country and only one in my area that is non-profit.

What people don’t seem to understand a “thing” not being spelled out in the bill is a bad thing not a good thing. The reason abortion stuff isn’t being spelled out is by leaving it out of the legislation the matter gets handed off to regulations and the court. By something not being in it, that someething is very much in play and the left knows it. Abortion being left out is by design. That’s why we needed the Hyde bill/amendment for not using federal funds to fund abortions.

Pulling end of life stuff out of the current legislation could actually be a bad thing not a good thing.
