Teeny, tiny minority of fringe extremists
This helps explain why the White House smear machine is in overdrive:
Self-identified conservatives outnumber self-identified liberals in all 50 states of the union, according to the Gallup Poll.
At the same time, more Americans nationwide are saying this year that they are conservative than have made that claim in any of the last four years.
In 2009, 40% percent of respondents in Gallup surveys that have interviewed more than 160,000 Americans have said that they are either “conservative” (31%) or “very conservative” (9%). That is the highest percentage in any year since 2004.
Only 21% have told Gallup they are liberal, including 16% who say they are “liberal” and 5% who say they are “very liberal.”
Thirty-five percent of Americans say they are moderate.
During Republican President George W. Bush’s second term, the number of self-identified conservatives as measured by Gallup dropped, riding at a low of 37% as recently as last year.
According to new data released by Gallup on Friday, conservatives outnumber liberals in all 50 states–including President Obama’s home state of Illinois–even though Democrats have a significant advantage over Republicans in party identification in 30 states.

I guess I’m one of those Fringe extremist.
Hello? Michael Steele? Is this thing on?
The individual’s choice of polical identification, Conservative or Libral, may have all of the impact of, say, Coke or Pepsi. It changes with whats on special this week.
Calling Colin Powell, pick up the red phone.
I wonder what is wrong with the RINOs?
Now if we only had a political party.
“JUST A LITTLE OUTSIDE” every twenty years or so, rational america needs a dose of democrat ruling instead of rhetoric so they can see just how crazy liberals are. 76 to 80 carter proved liberals in the wh and congress is a recipe for disaster. 92 to 94 again liberal rhetoric convinced otherwise sane people that bush 1 was out of touch with them and dems could lead. we had healthcare 1 and illegalities in the wh and mysterious deaths in the park. 2008 to … we once again must learn why you don’t turn over your credit card to your 18 year old, and why you don’t turn over all branches of gubmint to communists and socialists and pray the “blue dogs” are sane.
All 50 states – wow. Now all Republicans have to do to win is be conservative.
And to all you moonbats out there, just so you know the score, the word ‘conservative’ is in no way whatsoever automatically synonymous with the word ‘republican’.
I will do everything I can to prevent country-club, shamnesty, big government RINOS from claiming that these poll results have anything to do with them.
False. Conservatism has principles such as small government, equal rights under our Constitution, free enterprise, low taxation, etc.
Please outline for us the ‘principles’ of liberalism?
Conservative and damn proud of it.
they may run as “conservatives” but how long after they get to the cesspool in D.C. will it take to turn them into libs?
Dexter – I’m beginning to think Steele was a mistake; we need someone willing and able to take a much firmer grip of the helm.
Obama:”Seven more states to go, I’ll be in deep doodoo!”
bhwaaaahahaha!
Proud member of the 9%.
Battleground Poll Question D3
The RNC has ignored the facts for years.

shhhhhhhhhhhhh
My mother who is as liberal as the come, started has recently started calling herself “conservative”.
I think hell really did freeze over.
Where does “Conservative to the Right of Atilla the Hun” fall?
I’m with ya. Steele either needs to grow a spine, or get out of the way and let a real Conservative take the reigns.
If that number is correct I do not know but damn I can not fathom how someone can be a “moderate” when their very Rights as Free People are in danger. I hope those fireman who show up when my house is on fire are not “moderate” about fighting the fire!
Errah someone better call the Department of Inferior and add RINOs to the Endangered Species List. Hopefully the Smithsonian has extra room for a stuffed Arlen Spector, Snow and McCain Exhibit so we can fondly remember these good ole days.
Amen brother. The GOP of today is about as conservative as the dems of the 1960′s (as a whole, of course there are a few true conservative repubs in congress). Too bad all of the “it’s your fault for not voting for the less than ideal candidate mcamensty” crowd validates the GOP lurch left by continuing to vote for the “r” regardless. Why should the gop change and stop moving left?
Errah, Doesn’t Steele’s reaching out or reach around or grasping at straws or touchy feeley or whatever he’s calling it; offset the need for conservatives??!!
Clinging-to-God-and-guns, right-wing, anti-government, Right-wing Extremist ™
Probably a Birther, too.
All Dems would add “Republican” to the end of the string, but I won’t insult ya like that, Fly.
I have been lazy about changing my registration. I was registered “UnDeclared” from the day I was 18 and only changed to “R” in Sept 2001. (Yup, for many, many moons….) I am beginning to see the error of leaving myself in the “R” camp. Except I read that “D”‘s count “UD”s as “D”s. And “R”s are definitely not “D”s. And I am not Libertarian, yet. So I am torn….American Political Angst…*sigh*
Somewhere in this debate over the moving target that is health care reform there has to be a reckoning of how we pay for it, no matter what is proposed. That particular item cannot ever calculated if we don’t first engage who will be covered. Can this health care debate be used to resolve the illegal immigration boondoggle? Like Rahm said, don’t waste a crisis.
Okay, there are millions of us. So why don’t we have a Party to call our own?
Doesn’t talk radio and Fox News ratings prove this every day?
Little Ma said:

Answer: because you are too stupid.
You are the people who bring guns to a healthcare debate
Forgot to mention Conservative vs liberal book sales too.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Republicans have been moving left since Bush’s “compassionate conservatism” rolled into DC in 2000. The result has been a watered down brand that nobody likes, just like nobody liked “New Coke”. They better do what Coke did: chuck “New Coke” and stick with what wins.
Give me real conservative candidates and I will vote for them; otherwise, I am staying home. I will not vote for the lesser of two evils anymore. Voting for republicans just because they aren’t democrats results in the Olympia Snows & Lindsay Grahams of the world.
Calling Sarah Palin!
A fifth grader can form a better argument. Try harder.
And yet I’m at a loss to think of a single intelligent comment that you have ever brought to a debate.
Now, now, Salt. ILMC graduated the sixth grade, didn’t you know that?
Of course he’s 48 years old and still ives at home with his granny and uncle, and still doesn’t quite know what to do with someone of the fairer sex, but come on, he did make it past the sixth grade.
And word is, he’s up for the next open double-nought spy position. His cover name is going to be Beef Jerky.
It’s too bad that the GOP will reap the benefits of the Dems demise, not because the GOP has better ideas but that the Dems want a permanent dictatorship installed. Sigh.

I don’t believe this poll. I want to–but too many of the self described “conservatives” still support President Obama (PBUH) and his “democratic” / liberal / socialist / statist / marxist / communist congressional minions.
***
They keep voting in people like SanFranNan, Harry Reid, Maxine Waters, Bawney Fwank, Al Frankenstein, etc. They still support “choice” (aka ABORTION), income “redistribution” (aka THEFT), class / racial envy (aka COVETING), “immigration reform” (aka SHAMNESTY), “greenie” energy and global warming stuff, etc.
***
Remember–53 percent of our country voted for this stuff in the 2008 election. I’m not buying into their new “conservative” mantra.

I wish this was truly a moral and ideological shift instead of just Obama backlash.
And sadly the GOP aggressively preparing another pathetic crop of RINO candidates to release into the center of the field.
You may be right. However, keep in mind that there are a lot of young people who are old enough to vote, but weren’t around when Reagan was President. They have never heard conservatism being articulated and just now are seeing how appalling liberalism is when unbridled and unchecked.
How many of these self-styled consevatives will still be conservative on election day?My guess is -not many.
The leftist politicians are correct in one thing—never underestimate the stupidity of the American public.
So many times I’ve read here and elsewhere REAL CONSERVATIVES written statements to the affect that Obaama will be a one term POTUS.I hope I’m wrong, but I do believe that the short memories of the voting public will assure his re-election.
I KNOW that’s true here in Oklahoma (which means “Land Of The Red Man” in Choctaw Indian).
But, if that’s true in all 50 states, why are places like California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Illinois, et.al. so backward?
A video about – all of you!

Maybe if the GOP keeps it’s big liberal mouth shut, the Conservative American people will continue to voice and sway public opinion with facts and information.
Ilovemycountry:
Yep, stay off topic and be an ass but let me add this. If anyone made a video of you and your ilk, it would be of the inside of a septic tank, no audio would be needed, just the video alone would explain it all.
ILMC.
ILMC and sweetie.
It’s for your health. Get in line to be shot..er..innoculated.
and you come unarmed to a battle of wits.
Of course, had you said “a battle of grits,” ILMC would have his spoon out of his pocket lickety-split, thus proving which battles he’s truly prepared for.
Eagles don’t flock, but seagulls do.
ILMC seems to be having a bad day. LOL

ZING!!
Moderate?
“Uh-h-h, which way is the wind blowing today?”
“I don’t want to be on the wrong side…what does the latest poll say “the people” support?”
“I’m not a fence-sitter, I am just undecided!”
CHOOSE A SIDE! It’s not that hard. Politicians will always cloud their true intentions with emotional smokescreens, citing “compassion.” Remove the emotion from political decisions, and your position gains clarity!
Yes, we’re all bringing guns to demonstrations and town halls, and we’re all calling Obama Hitler. No shades of gray here.
So when are we going to see conservatives move to get on the ballots? Michael Steele was a great candidate in Maryland. Nationwide politics was something he wasn’t ready for, or he found being a RINO was profitable. If we can get some serious candidates moving, we’ll unseat a lot of surprised liberals. Here in Virginia, McDowell may win.
ILMC should not be afraid of those of us who carry weapons anywhere. It’s not the “law abiding” gun owners who commit robberies, or who assassinate politicians…those would be left-wing nutcases who would never pass a background check. Many are undereducated…NOT because of the right-wing domination of the U.S. education system. Many have a criminal history, and/or a history of mental illness.
Armed citizens PROTECT others, and don’t seek recognition or reward. They do it because it’s the right thing to do!
You don’t see patriots calling for the death of those with whom they disagree.
Conservatives don’t look to prosecute those who use arms to protect life and property.
Conservatives don’t threaten the use of force to get their way.
Conservatives don’t blame America first.
Conservatives believe in the principles of the founding fathers, and support the Bill of Rights.
Conservatives believe the Constitution is the law of the land.
Conservatives really DO love their country, The United States of America.
Perhaps, ILMC should claim another handle…perhaps,StalinMyHero, or ILoveMotherRussia, or even DiePigDie?
One thing is certain, to me anyway…I find it hard to believe that the “Country” you refer to in your blog name is America. THAT America I don’t recognize.
Why?
And ruin all of her attempts at irony?!
It’s all she’s got!
Now Spacey, irony is such a hard word for ILMC. I know he ‘gradiated’ the sixth grade and all, but he really needs it put into simpler terms:
“The country you be double-nought spyin’ fer ain’t Merica. Yous musn’ be one of dem dere sosha… one uh dem dere soshaaa…. a dern commie!.”

Sorry, I am too busy making a movie about you to be concerned with some wimpy collectivist internet video paid for by the DNC.
We must take back the primaries, and make them all closed to party only. They should be pass/fail for all incumbents. We must take back our schools and universities from the verminous liberals. Withhold funding to any university that impedes conservative ideology from having an equal footing–townhall shouting if necessary to ensure the liberals suffer as they have made conservatives to suffer for years. It’ll be a daily battle, and one we cannot afford to go back to our quiet way of life letting thes abominations to recur.
The problem is that most of the 35% who are moderate are actually liberals. In the liberal mindset of no absolutes picking “liberal” or “conservative” is making a value judgement. That is something liberals say they don’t do, it’s not true of course, but they claim to be 100% non-judgemental….thus, they say they are “moderate”.
